089.001 By the break of Day
|
وَالْفَجْرِ |
Wa Layālin `Ashrin (Al-Fajr: 2).
|
089.002 By the Nights twice five;
|
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ |
Wa Ash-Shaf`i Wa Al-Watri (Al-Fajr: 3).
|
089.003 By the even and odd (contrasted);
|
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ |
Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā Yasri (Al-Fajr: 4).
|
089.004 And by the Night when it passeth away;-
|
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ |
Hal Fī Dhālika Qasamun Lidhī Ĥijrin (Al-Fajr: 5).
|
089.005 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand?
|
هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَسَم ٌ لِذِي حِجْرٍ |
'Alam Tara Kayfa Fa`ala Rabbuka Bi`ādin (Al-Fajr: 6).
|
089.006 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),-
|
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ |
'Irama Dhāti Al-`Imādi (Al-Fajr: 7).
|
089.007 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars,
|
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ |
Allatī Lam Yukhlaq Mithluhā Fī Al-Bilādi (Al-Fajr: 8).
|
089.008 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land?
|
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلاَدِ |
Wa Thamūda Al-Ladhīna Jābū Aş-Şakhra Bil-Wādi (Al-Fajr: 9).
|
089.009 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?-
|
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ |
Wa Fir`awna Dhī Al-'Awtādi (Al-Fajr: 10).
|
089.010 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes?
|
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الأَوْتَادِ |
Al-Ladhīna Ţaghawā Fī Al-Bilādi (Al-Fajr: 11).
|
089.011 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands,
|
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلاَدِ |
Fa'aktharū Fīhā Al-Fasāda (Al-Fajr: 12).
|
089.012 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief).
|
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ |
Faşabba `Alayhim Rabbuka Saw#5a `Adhābin (Al-Fajr: 13).
|
089.013 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements:
|
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ |
'Inna Rabbaka Labiālmirşādi (Al-Fajr: 14).
|
089.014 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower.
|
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ |
Fa'ammā Al-'Insānu 'Idhā Mā Abtalāhu Rabbuhu Fa'akramahu Wa Na``amahu Fayaqūlu Rabbī 'Akramani (Al-Fajr: 15).

089.015 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me."
|
فَأَمَّا الإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاَهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ |
Wa 'Ammā 'Idhā Mā Abtalāhu Faqadara `Alayhi Rizqahu Fayaqūlu Rabbī 'Ahānani (Al-Fajr: 16).

089.016 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!"
|
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلاَهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ |
Kallā ۖ Bal Lā Tukrimūna Al-Yatīma (Al-Fajr: 17).
|
089.017 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans!
|
كَلاَّ ۖ بَل لاَ تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ |
Wa Lā Taĥāđđūna `Alá Ţa`āmi Al-Miskīni (Al-Fajr: 18).
|
089.018 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!-
|
وَلاَ تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ |
Wa Ta'kulūna At-Turātha 'Aklāan Lammāan (Al-Fajr: 19).
|
089.019 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed,
|
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلاً لَمّاً |
Wa Tuĥibbūna Al-Māla Ĥubbāan Jammāan (Al-Fajr: 20).
|
089.020 And ye love wealth with inordinate love!
|
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبّاً جَمّاً |
Kallā 'Idhā Dukkati Al-'Arđu Dakkāan Dakkāan (Al-Fajr: 21).
|
089.021 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder,
|
كَلاَّ إِذَا دُكَّتِ الأَرْضُ دَكّاً دَكّاً |
Wa Jā'a Rabbuka Wa Al-Malaku Şaffāan Şaffāan (Al-Fajr: 22).
|
089.022 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank,
|
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفّاً صَفّاً |
Wa Jī'a Yawma'idhin Bijahannama ۚ Yawma'idhin Yatadhakkaru Al-'Insānu Wa 'Anná Lahu Adh-Dhikrá (Al-Fajr: 23).
|
089.023 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him?
|
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الإِنْسَانُ وَأَنَّى لَهُ الذِّكْرَى |
Yaqūlu Yā Laytanī Qaddamtu Liĥayātī (Al-Fajr: 24).
|
089.024 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!"
|
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي |
Fayawma'idhin Lā Yu`adhdhibu `Adhābahu 'Aĥadun (Al-Fajr: 25).
|
089.025 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict,
|
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ |
Wa Lā Yūthiqu Wathāqahu 'Aĥadun (Al-Fajr: 26).

089.026 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind.
|
وَلاَ يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ |
Yā 'Ayyatuhā An-Nafsu Al-Muţma'innahu (Al-Fajr: 27).
|
089.027 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
|
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ |
Arji`ī 'Ilá Rabbiki Rāđiyatan Marđīyahan (Al-Fajr: 28).
|
089.028 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
|
ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً |
Fādkhulī Fī `Ibādī (Al-Fajr: 29).
|
089.029 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees!
|
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي |
Wa Adkhulī Jannatī (Al-Fajr: 30).
|
089.030 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven!
|
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي |
