Yā 'Ayyuhā A l-Muddath th ir u (Al-Muddath th ir : 1).
074.001 O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)!
يَا أَيُّهَا ا لْمُدَّثِّرُ
Q um Fa'an dh ir (Al-Muddath th ir : 2).
074.002 Arise and deliver thy warning!
قُ مْ فَأَن ذِر ْ
Wa Ra bbaka Fakabbir (Al-Muddath th ir : 3).
074.003 And thy Lord do thou magnify!
وَرَ بَّكَ فَكَبِّر ْ
Wa Th iyābaka Faţ ahhir (Al-Muddath th ir : 4).
074.004 And thy garments keep free from stain!
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَ هِّر ْ
Wa A r-Ru j za Fāhjur (Al-Muddath th ir : 5).
074.005 And all abomination shun!
وَال رُّجْ زَ فَاهْجُ رْ
Wa Lā Tam nun Tastakth ir u (Al-Muddath th ir : 6).
074.006 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!
وَلاَ تَمْنُن ْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ
Wa Lira bbika Fāş bir (Al-Muddath th ir : 7).
074.007 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant!
وَلِرَ بِّكَ فَاصْ بِ ر ْ
Fa'idh ā Nuq ira Fī A n -Nāq ū r i (Al-Muddath th ir : 8).
074.008 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded,
فَإِذَا نُقِ رَ فِي ا ل نَّ اقُ ورِ
Fadh ālika Yawma'idh in Yaw mun `Asī r un (Al-Muddath th ir : 9).
074.009 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,-
فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْ مٌ عَسِيرٌ
`Alá A l-Kāfir ī na Gh ay ru Yasī r in (Al-Muddath th ir : 10).
074.010 Far from easy for those without Faith.
عَلَى ا لْكَافِر ِي نَ غَ يْ رُ يَسِير ٍ
Dh arnī Wa Man Kh alaq tu Waĥīdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 11).
074.011 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!-
ذَرْنِي وَمَن ْ خَ لَقْ تُ وَحِيداً
Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan Mam dūdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 12).
074.012 To whom I granted resources in abundance,
وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالاً مَمْدُوداً
Wa Banī na Sh uhūdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 13).
074.013 And sons to be by his side!-
وَبَنِي نَ شُهُوداً
Wa Mahhad tu Lahu Tam hīdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 14).
074.014 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable!
وَمَهَّدْ تُ لَهُ تَمْهِيداً
Th umm a Yaţ ma`u 'An 'Azī d a (Al-Muddath th ir : 15).
074.015 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);-
ثُمّ َ يَطْ مَعُ أَن ْ أَزِيدَ
Kallā ۖ 'Inn ahu Kā na Li'y 7tinā `Anīdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 16).
074.016 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory!
كَلاَّ ۖ إِنَّ هُ كَا نَ لِأيَاتِنَا عَنِيداً
Sa'urhiq uhu Ş a`ūdāan (Al-Muddath th ir : 17).
074.017 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!
سَأُرْهِقُ هُ صَ عُوداً
'Inn ahu Fakkara Wa Q addara (Al-Muddath th ir : 18).
074.018 For he thought and he plotted;-
إِنَّ هُ فَكَّرَ وَقَ دَّرَ
Faq utila Kay fa Q addara (Al-Muddath th ir : 19).
074.019 And woe to him! How he plotted!-
فَقُ تِلَ كَيْ فَ قَ دَّرَ
Th umm a Q utila Kay fa Q addara (Al-Muddath th ir : 20).
074.020 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-
ثُمّ َ قُ تِلَ كَيْ فَ قَ دَّرَ
Th umm a Nažara (Al-Muddath th ir : 21).
074.021 Then he looked round;
ثُمَّ نَظَ رَ
Th umm a `Abasa Wa Basara (Al-Muddath th ir : 22).
074.022 Then he frowned and he scowled;
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Th umm a 'Ad bara Wa A stakbara (Al-Muddath th ir : 23).
074.023 Then he turned back and was haughty;
ثُمّ َ أَدْ بَرَ وَا سْتَكْبَ رَ
Faq ā la 'In Hādh ā 'Illā Siĥru n Yu'uth aru (Al-Muddath th ir : 24).
074.024 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;
فَقَ ا لَ إِن ْ هَذَا إِلاَّ سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ
'In Hādh ā 'Illā Q aw lu A l-Bash ar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 25).
074.025 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"
إِن ْ هَذَا إِلاَّ قَ وْ لُ ا لْبَشَرِ
Sa'uş lī hi Saq ara (Al-Muddath th ir : 26).
074.026 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire!
سَأُصْ لِي هِ سَق َ رَ
Wa Mā 'Ad r ā ka Mā Saq aru (Al-Muddath th ir : 27).
074.027 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is?
وَمَا أَدْ رَ ا كَ مَا سَق َ رُ
Lā Tub q ī Wa Lā Tadh aru (Al-Muddath th ir : 28).
074.028 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!-
لاَ تُبْ قِ ي وَلاَ تَذَرُ
Lawwāĥatun Lilbash ar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 29).
074.029 Darkening and changing the colour of man!
لَوَّاحَة ٌ لِلْبَشَرِ
`Alayhā Tis`ata `Ash ara (Al-Muddath th ir : 30).
074.030 Over it are Nineteen.
عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ
Wa Mā Ja`alnā 'Aş ĥā ba A n -Nā r i 'Illā Malā 'ikatan ۙ Wa Mā Ja`alnā `Iddatahum 'Illā Fitnatan Lilladh ī na Kafarū Liyastayq ina A l-Ladh ī na 'Ūtū A l-Kitā ba Wa Yazdā da A l-Ladh ī na 'Āmanū 'Īmānāan ۙ Wa Lā Yartā ba A l-Ladh ī na 'Ūtū A l-Kitā ba Wa A l-Mu'uminū na ۙ Wa Liyaq ū la A l-Ladh ī na Fī Q ulūbihim Mara đun Wa A l-Kāfirū na Mādh ā 'Ar ā da A ll āhu Bihadh ā Math alāan ۚ Kadh ālika Yuđillu A ll āhu Man Yash ā 'u Wa Yahdī Man Yash ā 'u ۚ Wa Mā Ya`lamu Junū da Ra bbika 'Illā Huwa ۚ Wa Mā Hiya 'I llā Dh ikrá Lilbash ar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 31).
074.031 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth God intend by this ?" Thus doth God leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْ حَا بَ ا ل نّ َا رِ إِلاَّ مَلاَئِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلاَّ فِتْنَة ً لِلَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِ نَ ا لَّذِي نَ أُ وتُوا ا لْكِتَا بَ وَيَزْدَا دَ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُو ا إِيمَاناً ۙ وَلاَ يَرْتَا بَ ا لَّذِي نَ أُ وتُوا ا لْكِتَا بَ وَا لْمُؤْمِنُو نَ ۙ وَلِيَقُ و لَ ا لَّذِي نَ فِي قُ لُوبِهِمْ مَرَ ض ٌ وَا لْكَافِرُو نَ مَاذَا أَرَ ا دَ ا للَّ هُ بِهَذَا مَثَلاً ۚ كَذَلِكَ يُضِ لُّ ا للَّ هُ مَن ْ يَشَا ءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن ْ يَشَا ءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُو دَ رَ بِّكَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرَ ى لِلْبَشَرِ
Kallā Wa A l-Q amar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 32).
074.032 Nay, verily: By the Moon,
كَلاَّ وَا لْقَ مَرِ
Wa A l-Lay li 'Idh 'Ad bara (Al-Muddath th ir : 33).
074.033 And by the Night as it retreateth,
وَاللَّيْ لِ إِذْ أَدْ بَ رَ
Wa A ş -Ş ub ĥi 'Idh ā 'Asfara (Al-Muddath th ir : 34).
074.034 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-
وَالصُّ بْ حِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ
'Inn ahā La'iĥdá A l-Kubar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 35).
074.035 This is but one of the mighty (portents),
إِنَّ هَا لَإِحْدَى ا لْكُبَ رِ
Nadh īrā an Lilbash ar i (Al-Muddath th ir : 36).
074.036 A warning to mankind,-
نَذِير اً لِلْبَشَرِ
Liman Sh ā 'a Min kum 'An Yataq addama 'Aw Yata'akh kh ara (Al-Muddath th ir : 37).
074.037 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-
لِمَن ْ شَا ءَ مِنْ كُمْ أَن ْ يَتَقَ دَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّ رَ
Kullu Nafsin Bimā Kasabat Ra hīnah un (Al-Muddath th ir : 38).
074.038 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَ هِينَةٌ
'Illā 'Aş ĥā ba A l-Yamī ni (Al-Muddath th ir : 39).
074.039 Except the Companions of the Right Hand.
إِلاَّ أَصْ حَا بَ ا لْيَمِينِ
Fī Jann ā tin Yatasā 'alū na (Al-Muddath th ir : 40).
074.040 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,
فِي جَنّ َا تٍ يَتَسَا ءَلُونَ
`Ani A l-Muj r imī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 41).
074.041 And (ask) of the Sinners:
عَنِ ا لْمُجْ رِ مِينَ
Mā Salakakum Fī Saq ara (Al-Muddath th ir : 42).
074.042 "What led you into Hell Fire?"
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَق َ رَ
Q ālū Lam Naku Mina A l-Muş allī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 43).
074.043 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;
قَ الُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ا لْمُصَ لِّينَ
Wa Lam Naku Nuţ `imu A l-Miskī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 44).
074.044 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;
وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْ عِمُ ا لْمِسْكِينَ
Wa Kunn ā Nakh ū đu Ma`a A l-Kh ā 'iđī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 45).
074.045 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;
وَكُنَّ ا نَخُ و ضُ مَعَ ا لْخَ ا ئِضِ ينَ
Wa Kunn ā Nukadh dh ibu Biyaw mi A d-Dī ni (Al-Muddath th ir : 46).
074.046 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
وَكُنَّ ا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْ مِ ا ل دِّينِ
Ĥattá 'Atānā A l-Yaq ī nu (Al-Muddath th ir : 47).
074.047 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."
حَتَّى أَتَانَا ا لْيَقِ ينُ
Famā Tan fa`uhum Sh afā`atu A sh -Sh āfi`ī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 48).
074.048 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them.
فَمَا تَنْ فَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ ا ل شَّافِعِينَ
Famā Lahum `Ani A t-Tadh kira ti Mu`r iđī na (Al-Muddath th ir : 49).
074.049 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-
فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ا ل تَّذْكِرَ ةِ مُعْرِ ضِ ينَ
Ka'ann ahum Ĥumuru n Mustan fira h un (Al-Muddath th ir : 50).
074.050 As if they were affrighted asses,
كَأَنَّ هُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْ فِرَ ةٌ
Farra t Min Q aswara h in (Al-Muddath th ir : 51).
074.051 Fleeing from a lion!
فَرَّ تْ مِن ْ قَ سْوَرَ ةٍ
Bal Yur ī du Kullu A m r i'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Ş uĥufāan Munash sh ara h an (Al-Muddath th ir : 52).
074.052 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!
بَلْ يُر ِي دُ كُلُّ ا مْرِ ئٍ مِنْ هُمْ أَن ْ يُؤْتَى صُ حُفاً مُنَشَّرَ ةً
Kallā ۖ Bal Lā Yakh āfū na A l-'Ākh ira h a (Al-Muddath th ir : 53).
074.053 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,
كَلاَّ ۖ بَلْ لاَ يَخَ افُو نَ ا لآخِ رَ ةَ
Kallā 'Inn ahu Tadh kira h un (Al-Muddath th ir : 54).
074.054 Nay, this surely is an admonition:
كَلاَّ إِنَّ هُ تَذْكِرَ ةٌ
Faman Sh ā 'a Dh akara hu (Al-Muddath th ir : 55).
074.055 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!
فَمَن ْ شَا ءَ ذَكَرَ هُ
Wa Mā Yadh kurū na 'Illā 'An Yash ā 'a A ll āhu ۚ Huwa 'Ahlu A t-Taq wá Wa 'Ahlu A l-Magh fira h i (Al-Muddath th ir : 56).
074.056 But none will keep it in remembrance except as God wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.
وَمَا يَذْكُرُو نَ إِلاَّ أَن ْ يَشَا ءَ ا للَّ هُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ا ل تَّقْ وَى وَأَهْلُ ا لْمَغْ فِرَ ةِ
