Sa'ala Sā'ilun Bi`adhābin Wāqi`in  | 070.001 A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- | سَأَلَ سَائِل ٌ بِعَذَاب ٍ وَاقِع ٍ |
Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un  | 070.002 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- | لِلْكَافِرينَ لَيْسَ لَه ُُ دَافِع ٌ |
Mina Allāhi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji  | 070.003 (A Penalty) from God, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. | مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ |
Ta`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin  | 070.004 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: | تَعْرُجُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْم ٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُه ُُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَة ٍ |
Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan  | 070.005 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). | فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرا ً جَمِيلا ً |
'Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan  | 070.006 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): | إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَه ُُ بَعِيدا ً |
Wa Narāhu Qarībāan  | 070.007 But We see it (quite) near. | وَنَرَاه ُُ قَرِيبا ً |
Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli  | 070.008 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, | يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ |
Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni  | 070.009 And the mountains will be like wool, | وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ |
Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan  | 070.010 And no friend will ask after a friend, | وَلاَ يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيما ً |
Yubaşşarūnahum Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi  | 070.011 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, | يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذ ٍ بِبَنِيهِ |
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi  | 070.012 His wife and his brother, | وَصَاحِبَتِه ِِ وَأَخِيهِ |
Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi  | 070.013 His kindred who sheltered him, | وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْويهِ |
Wa Man Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi  | 070.014 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: | وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعا ً ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ |
Kallā 'Innahā Lažá  | 070.015 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- | كَلاَّ إِنَّهَا لَظَى |
Nazzā`atan Lilshshawá  | 070.016 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- | نَزَّاعَة ً لِلشَّوَى |
Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá  | 070.017 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). | تَدْعُوا مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّى |
Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á  | 070.018 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! | وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى |
'Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan  | 070.019 Truly man was created very impatient;- | إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعا ً |
'Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan  | 070.020 Fretful when evil touches him; | إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعا ً |
Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan  | 070.021 And niggardly when good reaches him;- | وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعا ً |
'Illā Al-Muşallīna  | 070.022 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- | إِلاَّ الْمُصَلِّينَ |
Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna  | 070.023 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; | الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun  | 070.024 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. | وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقّ ٌ مَعْلُوم ٌ |
Lilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi  | 070.025 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); | لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni  | 070.026 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; | وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna  | 070.027 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ |
'Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin  | 070.028 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- | إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُون ٍ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna  | 070.029 And those who guard their chastity, | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ |
'Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna  | 070.030 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, | إِلاَّ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ |
Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna  | 070.031 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- | فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna  | 070.032 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna  | 070.033 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna  | 070.034 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- | وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ |
'Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna  | 070.035 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). | أُوْلَائِكَ فِي جَنَّات ٍ مُكْرَمُونَ |
Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna  | 070.036 Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee- | فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ |
`Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna  | 070.037 From the right and from the left, in crowds? | عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ |
'Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin  | 070.038 Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss? | أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئ ٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيم ٍ |
Kallā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna  | 070.039 By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know! | كَلاَّ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna  | 070.040 Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly- | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna  | 070.041 Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan). | عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرا ً مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ |
Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna  | 070.042 So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!- | فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّى يُلاَقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ |
Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna  | 070.043 The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),- | يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعا ً كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُب ٍ يُوفِضُونَ |
Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna  | 070.044 Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised! | خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّة ٌ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ |
