Nūn ۚ Wa A l-Q alami Wa Mā Yasţ urū na (Al-Q alam : 1).
068.001 Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,-
نُون ۚ وَا لْقَ لَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُ رُونَ
Mā 'An ta Bini`mati Ra bbika Bimaj nū nin (Al-Q alam : 2).
068.002 Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed.
مَا أَنْ تَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَ بِّكَ بِمَجْ نُونٍ
Wa 'Inn a Laka La'aj rā an Gh ay ra Mam nū nin (Al-Q alam : 3).
068.003 Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing:
وَإِنّ َ لَكَ لَأَجْ راً غَ يْ رَ مَمْنُونٍ
Wa 'Inn aka La`alá Kh uluq in `Ažī min (Al-Q alam : 4).
068.004 And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character.
وَإِنَّ كَ لَعَلى خُ لُقٍ عَظِ يمٍ
Fasatub ş iru Wa Yub ş irū na (Al-Q alam : 5).
068.005 Soon wilt thou see, and they will see,
فَسَتُبْ صِ ر ُوَيُبْ صِ رُونَ
Bi'ayyyiku mu A l-Maftū nu (Al-Q alam : 6).
068.006 Which of you is afflicted with madness.
بِأَيّيِكُمُ ا لْمَفْتُونُ
'Inn a Ra bbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đ alla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bil-Muhtadī na (Al-Q alam : 7).
068.007 Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance.
إِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ْ ضَ لَّ عَن ْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِا لْمُهْتَدِينَ
Falā Tuţ i`i A l-Mukadh dh ibī na (Al-Q alam : 8).
068.008 So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth).
فَلاَ تُطِ عِ ا لْمُكَذِّبِينَ
Waddū Law Tud /hinu Fayud /hinū na (Al-Q alam : 9).
068.009 Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant.
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْ هِنُ فَيُدْ هِنُونَ
Wa Lā Tuţ i` Kulla Ĥallā fin Mahī nin (Al-Q alam : 10).
068.010 Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths,
وَلاَ تُطِ عْ كُلَّ حَلاَّفٍ مَهِينٍ
Hamm ā zin Mash sh ā 'in Binamī min (Al-Q alam : 11).
068.011 A slanderer, going about with calumnies,
هَمّ َا زٍ مَشَّا ءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ
Mann ā `in Lilkh ay r i Mu`tadin 'Ath ī min (Al-Q alam : 12).
068.012 (Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin,
مَنّ َا عٍ لِلْخَ يْ رِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ
`Utullin Ba`da Dh ālika Zanī min (Al-Q alam : 13).
068.013 Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,-
عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِيمٍ
'An Kā na Dh ā Mā lin Wa Banī na (Al-Q alam : 14).
068.014 Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons.
أَن ْ كَا نَ ذَا مَا لٍ وَبَنِينَ
'Idh ā Tutlá `Alay hi 'Āyātunā Q ā la 'Asāţ ī r u A l-'Awwalī na (Al-Q alam : 15).
068.015 When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries!
إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْ هِ آيَاتُنَا قَ ا لَ أَسَاطِ ي ر ُا لأَوَّلِينَ
Sanasimuhu `Alá A l-Kh urţ ū mi (Al-Q alam : 16).
068.016 Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout!
سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى ا لْخُ رْطُ ومِ
'Inn ā Balawnāhum Kamā Balawnā 'Aş ĥā ba A l-Jann ati 'Idh 'Aq samū Layaş r imunn ahā Muş biĥī na (Al-Q alam : 17).
068.017 Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.
إِنَّ ا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْ حَا بَ ا لْجَنَّ ةِ إِذْ أَقْ سَمُوا لَيَصْ رِ مُنَّ هَا مُصْ بِحِينَ
Wa Lā Yastath nū na (Al-Q alam : 18).
068.018 But made no reservation, ("If it be God's Will").
وَلاَ يَسْتَثْنُونَ
Faţ ā fa `Alayhā Ţ ā 'ifun Min Ra bbika Wa Hum Nā 'imū na (Al-Q alam : 19).
068.019 Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep.
فَطَ ا فَ عَلَيْهَا طَ ا ئِفٌ مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ وَهُمْ نَا ئِمُونَ
Fa'aş baĥat Kālş ş ar ī mi (Al-Q alam : 20).
068.020 So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered).
فَأَصْ بَحَتْ كَال صَّ رِ يمِ
Fatanādaw Muş biĥī na (Al-Q alam : 21).
068.021 As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,-
فَتَنَادَوا مُصْ بِحِينَ
'Ani A gh dū `Alá Ĥarth ikum 'In Kun tum Ş ār imī na (Al-Q alam : 22).
068.022 "Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits."
أَنِ ا غْ دُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِن ْ كُن تُمْ صَ ارِ مِينَ
Fān ţ alaq ū Wa Hum Yatakh āfatū na (Al-Q alam : 23).
068.023 So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)-
فَان طَ لَقُ وا وَهُمْ يَتَخَ افَتُونَ
'An Lā Yad kh ulann ahā A l-Yaw ma `Alaykum Miskī nun (Al-Q alam : 24).
068.024 "Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day."
أَن ْ لاَ يَدْ خُ لَنَّ هَا ا لْيَوْ مَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ
Wagh adawā `Alá Ĥardin Q ādir ī na (Al-Q alam : 25).
068.025 And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve.
وَغَ دَوْا عَلَى حَرْدٍ قَ ادِرِ ينَ
Falamm ā Ra 'awhā Q ālū 'Inn ā Lađā llū na (Al-Q alam : 26).
068.026 But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way:
فَلَمَّ ا رَ أَوْهَا قَ الُو ا إِنَّ ا لَضَ ا لُّونَ
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmū na (Al-Q alam : 27).
068.027 "Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!"
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ
Q ā la 'Awsaţ uhum 'Alam 'Aq ul Lakum Lawlā Tusabbiĥū na (Al-Q alam : 28).
068.028 Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (God)?'"
قَ ا لَ أَوْسَطُ هُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُ لْ لَكُمْ لَوْلاَ تُسَبِّحُونَ
Q ālū Sub ĥā na Ra bbinā 'Inn ā Kunn ā Ž ālimī na (Al-Q alam : 29).
068.029 They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!"
قَ الُوا سُبْ حَا نَ رَ بِّنَا إِنَّ ا كُنَّ ا ظَ الِمِينَ
Fa'aq bala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatalāwamū na (Al-Q alam : 30).
068.030 Then they turned, one against another, in reproach.
فَأَقْ بَلَ بَعْضُ هُمْ عَلَى بَعْض ٍ يَتَلاَوَمُونَ
Q ālū Yā Waylanā 'Inn ā Kunn ā Ţ āgh ī na (Al-Q alam : 31).
068.031 They said: "Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed!
قَ الُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّ ا كُنَّ ا طَ اغِ ينَ
`Asá Ra bbunā 'An Yub dilanā Kh ayrā an Minhā 'Inn ā 'Ilá Ra bbinā Rā gh ibū na (Al-Q alam : 32).
068.032 "It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!"
عَسَى رَ بُّنَا أَن ْ يُبْ دِلَنَا خَ يْراً مِنْ هَا إِنَّ ا إِلَى رَ بِّنَا رَ اغِ بُونَ
Kadh ālika A l-`Adh ā bu ۖ Wa La`adh ā bu A l-'Ākh ira ti 'Akbaru ۚ Law Kānū Ya`lamū na (Al-Q alam : 33).
068.033 Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew!
كَذَلِكَ ا لْعَذَا بُ ۖ وَلَعَذَا بُ ا لآخِ رَ ةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ
'Inn a Lilmuttaq ī na `In da Ra bbihim Jann ā ti A n -Na`ī mi (Al-Q alam : 34).
068.034 Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord.
إِنّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِ ي نَ عِنْ دَ رَ بِّهِمْ جَنّ َا تِ ا ل نَّ عِيمِ
'Afanaj `alu A l-Muslimī na Kālmuj r imī na (Al-Q alam : 35).
068.035 Shall We then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin?
أَفَنَجْ عَلُ ا لْمُسْلِمِي نَ كَالْمُجْ رِ مِينَ
Mā Lakum Kay fa Taĥkumū na (Al-Q alam : 36).
068.036 What is the matter with you? How judge ye?
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْ فَ تَحْكُمُونَ
'Am Lakum Kitā bun Fī hi Tad ru sū na (Al-Q alam : 37).
068.037 Or have ye a book through which ye learn-
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَا بٌ فِي هِ تَدْ رُسُونَ
'Inn a Lakum Fī hi Lamā Takh ayyarū na (Al-Q alam : 38).
068.038 That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose?
إِنّ َ لَكُمْ فِي هِ لَمَا تَخَ يَّرُونَ
'Am Lakum 'Aymā nun `Alaynā Bāligh atun 'Ilá Yaw mi A l-Q iyāmati ۙ 'Inn a Lakum Lamā Taĥkumū na (Al-Q alam : 39).
068.039 Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand?
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَا نٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَ ةٌ إِلَى يَوْ مِ ا لْقِ يَامَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ
Salhum 'Ayyuhum Bidh ālika Za`ī mun (Al-Q alam : 40).
068.040 Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that!
سَلْهُم أَيُّهُمْ بِذَلِكَ زَعِيمٌ
'Am Lahum Sh ura kā 'u Falya'tū Bish ura kā 'ihim 'In Kānū Ş ādiq ī na (Al-Q alam : 41).
068.041 Or have they some "Partners" (in Godhead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful!
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَ كَا ءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَ كَا ئِهِمْ إِن ْ كَانُوا صَ ادِقِ ينَ
Yaw ma Yuksh afu `An Sā q in Wa Yud `aw na 'Ilá A s-Sujū di Falā Yastaţ ī`ū na (Al-Q alam : 42).
068.042 The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,-
يَوْ مَ يُكْشَفُ عَن ْ سَا ق ٍ وَيُدْ عَوْ نَ إِلَى ا ل سُّجُو دِ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِ يعُونَ
Kh āsh i`atan 'Ab ş āru hum Tarhaq uhum Dh illatun ۖ Wa Q ad Kānū Yud `aw na 'Ilá A s-Sujū di Wa Hum Sālimū na (Al-Q alam : 43).
068.043 Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused).
خَ اشِعَةً أَبْ صَ ارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُ هُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَ دْ كَانُوا يُدْ عَوْ نَ إِلَى ا ل سُّجُو دِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ
Fadh arnī Wa Man Yukadh dh ibu Bihadh ā A l-Ĥadīth i ۖ Sanastad r ijuhum Min Ĥay th u Lā Ya`lamū na (Al-Q alam : 44).
068.044 Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not.
فَذَرْنِي وَمَن ْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا ا لْحَدِي ثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْ رِ جُهُمْ مِن ْ حَيْ ثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Wa 'Um lī Lahum ۚ 'Inn a Kayd 99 Matī nun (Al-Q alam : 45).
068.045 A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan.
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ
'Am Tas'aluhum 'Aj rā an Fahum Min Magh ra min Muth q alū na (Al-Q alam : 46).
068.046 Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْ راً فَهُمْ مِن ْ مَغْ رَ مٍ مُثْقَ لُونَ
'Am `In dahumu A l-Gh ay bu Fahum Yaktubū na (Al-Q alam : 47).
068.047 Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down?
أَمْ عِنْ دَهُمُ ا لْغَ يْ بُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ
Fāş bir Liĥukmi Ra bbika Wa Lā Takun Kaş āĥibi A l-Ĥū ti 'Idh Nādá Wa Huwa Makžū mun (Al-Q alam : 48).
068.048 So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony.
فَاصْ بِر ْ لِحُكْمِ رَ بِّكَ وَلاَ تَكُن ْ كَصَ احِبِ ا لْحُو تِ إِذْ نَادَى وَهُوَ مَكْظُ ومٌ
Lawlā 'An Tadāra kahu Ni`matun Min Ra bbihi Lanubidh a Bil-`Arā 'i Wa Huwa Madh mū mun (Al-Q alam : 49).
068.049 Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace.
لَوْلاَ أَن ْ تَدَارَ كَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِن ْ رَ بِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِا لْعَرَا ءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ
Fāj tabā hu Ra bbuhu Faja`alahu Mina A ş -Ş āliĥī na (Al-Q alam : 50).
068.050 Thus did his Lord choose him and make him of the Company of the Righteous.
فَاجْ تَبَا هُ رَ بُّهُ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنَ ا ل صَّ الِحِينَ
Wa 'In Yakā du A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Layuzliq ūnaka Bi'ab ş ār ihim Lamm ā Sami`ū A dh -Dh ikra Wa Yaq ūlū na 'Inn ahu Lamaj nū nun (Al-Q alam : 51).
068.051 And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!"
وَإِن ْ يَكَا دُ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُ ونَكَ بِأَبْ صَ ارِ هِمْ لَمَّ ا سَمِعُوا ا ل ذِّكْرَ وَيَقُ ولُو نَ إِنَّ هُ لَمَجْ نُونٌ
Wa Mā Huwa 'I llā Dh ikru n Lil`ālamī na (Al-Q alam : 52).
068.052 But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds.
وَمَا هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ
