Wa A n -Naj mi 'Idh ā Hawá (An -Naj m : 1).
053.001 By the Star when it goes down,-
وَالنَّ جْ مِ إِذَا هَوَى
Mā Đ alla Ş āĥibukum Wa Mā Gh awá (An -Naj m : 2).
053.002 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled.
مَا ضَ لَّ صَ احِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَ وَى
Wa Mā Yan ţ iq u `Ani A l-Hawá (An -Naj m : 3).
053.003 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire.
وَمَا يَنْ طِ قُ عَنِ ا لْهَوَى
'In Huwa 'I llā Waĥyun Yūĥá (An -Naj m : 4).
053.004 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him:
إِن ْ هُوَ إِلاَّ وَحْيٌ يُوحَى
`Allamahu Sh adī du A l-Q uwá (An -Naj m : 5).
053.005 He was taught by one Mighty in Power,
عَلَّمَهُ شَدِي دُ ا لْقُ وَى
Dh ū Mir ra tin Fāstawá (An -Naj m : 6).
053.006 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form);
ذُو مِر َّةٍ فَاسْتَوَى
Wa Huwa Bil-'Ufuq i A l-'A`lá (An -Naj m : 7).
053.007 While he was in the highest part of the horizon:
وَهُوَ بِا لأُفُقِ ا لأَعْلَى
Th umm a Danā Fatadallá (An -Naj m : 8).
053.008 Then he approached and came closer,
ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى
Fakā na Q ā ba Q awsay ni 'Aw 'Ad ná (An -Naj m : 9).
053.009 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer;
فَكَا نَ قَ ا بَ قَ وْسَيْ نِ أَوْ أَدْ نَى
Fa'awĥá 'Ilá `Ab dihi Mā 'Awĥá (An -Naj m : 10).
053.010 So did (God) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey.
فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْ دِهِ مَا أَوْحَى
Mā Kadh aba A l-Fu'uā du Mā Ra 'á (An -Naj m : 11).
053.011 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw.
مَا كَذَبَ ا لْفُؤَا دُ مَا رَ أَى
'Afatumārūnahu `Alá Mā Yará (An -Naj m : 12).
053.012 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw?
أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَى مَا يَرَ ى
Wa Laq ad Ra 'ā hu Nazlatan 'Ukh rá (An -Naj m : 13).
053.013 For indeed he saw him at a second descent,
وَلَقَ دْ رَ آهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْ رَ ى
`In da Sid ra ti A l-Mun tahá (An -Naj m : 14).
053.014 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass:
عِنْ دَ سِدْ رَ ةِ ا لْمُنْ تَهَى
`In dahā Jann atu A l-Ma'w 5 (An -Naj m : 15).
053.015 Near it is the Garden of Abode.
عِنْ دَهَا جَنَّ ةُ ا لْمَأْوَى
'Idh Yagh sh á A s-Sid ra ta Mā Yagh sh á (An -Naj m : 16).
053.016 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!)
إِذْ يَغْ شَى ا ل سِّدْ رَ ةَ مَا يَغْ شَى
Mā Zāgh a A l-Baş aru Wa Mā Ţ agh á (An -Naj m : 17).
053.017 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong!
مَا زَا غَ ا لْبَصَ رُ وَمَا طَ غَ ى
Laq ad Ra 'á Min 'Āyā ti Ra bbihi A l-Kub rá (An -Naj m : 18).
053.018 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest!
لَقَ دْ رَ أَى مِن ْ آيَا تِ رَ بِّهِ ا لْكُبْ رَ ى
'Afara 'aytumu A l-Lā ta Wa A l-`Uzzá (An -Naj m : 19).
053.019 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza,
أَفَرَ أَيْتُمُ ا ل لاَّتَ وَا لْعُزَّى
Wa Manāata A th -Th ālith ata A l-'Ukh rá (An -Naj m : 20).
053.020 And another, the third (goddess), Manat?
وَمَنَا ةَ ا ل ثَّالِثَةَ ا لأُخْ رَ ى
'Alakumu A dh -Dh akaru Wa Lahu A l-'Un th á (An -Naj m : 21).
053.021 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female?
أَلَكُمُ ا ل ذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ ا لأُن ثَى
Tilka 'Idh āan Q ismatun Đ īzá (An -Naj m : 22).
053.022 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair!
تِلْكَ إِذاً قِ سْمَةٌ ضِ يزَى
'In Hiya 'I llā 'Asmā 'un Samm aytumūhā 'An tum Wa 'Ābā 'uukum Mā 'An zala A ll āhu Bihā Min Sulţ ā nin ۚ 'In Yattabi`ū na 'Illā A ž-Ž ann a Wa Mā Tahwá A l-'An fusu ۖ Wa Laq ad Jā 'ahum Min Ra bbihimu A l-Hudá (An -Naj m : 23).
053.023 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which God has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord!
إِن ْ هِيَ إِلاَّ أَسْمَا ءٌ سَمَّ يْتُمُوهَا أَنْ تُمْ وَآبَا ؤُكُمْ مَا أَن زَلَ ا للَّ هُ بِهَا مِن ْ سُلْطَ ا نٍ ۚ إِن ْ يَتَّبِعُو نَ إِلاَّ ا ل ظَّ نّ َ وَمَا تَهْوَى ا لأَنْ فُسُ ۖ وَلَقَ دْ جَا ءَهُمْ مِن ْ رَ بِّهِمُ ا لْهُدَى
'Am Lil'in sā ni Mā Tamann á (An -Naj m : 24).
053.024 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after?
أَمْ لِلإِن سَا نِ مَا تَمَنَّ ى
Falill ā hi A l-'Ākh ira tu Wa A l-'Ūlá (An -Naj m : 25).
053.025 But it is to God that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong.
فَلِلَّهِ ا لآخِ رَ ةُ وَا لأُ ولَى
Wa Kam Min Malakin Fī A s-Samāwā ti Lā Tugh nī Sh afā`atuhum Sh ay'ā an 'Illā Min Ba`di 'An Ya'dh ana A ll āhu Liman Yash ā 'u Wa Yarđá (An -Naj m : 26).
053.026 How many-so-ever be the angels in the heavens, their intercession will avail nothing except after God has given leave for whom He pleases and that he is acceptable to Him.
وَكَمْ مِن ْ مَلَكٍ فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ لاَ تُغْ نِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْ ئاً إِلاَّ مِن ْ بَعْدِ أَن ْ يَأْذَنَ ا للَّ هُ لِمَن ْ يَشَا ءُ وَيَرْضَ ى
'Inn a A l-Ladh ī na Lā Yu'uminū na Bil-'Ākh ira ti Layusamm ū na A l-Malā 'ikata Tasmiyata A l-'Un th á (An -Naj m : 27).
053.027 Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
إِنّ َ ا لَّذِي نَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُو نَ بِا لآخِ رَ ةِ لَيُسَمّ ُو نَ ا لْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ ا لأُنْ ثَى
Wa Mā Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin ۖ 'In Yattabi`ū na 'Illā A ž-Ž ann a ۖ Wa 'Inn a A ž-Ž ann a Lā Yugh nī Mina A l-Ĥaq q i Sh ay'ā an (An -Naj m : 28).
053.028 But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.
وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِن ْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِن ْ يَتَّبِعُو نَ إِلاَّ ا ل ظَّ نّ َ ۖ وَإِنّ َ ا ل ظَّ نّ َ لاَ يُغْ نِي مِنَ ا لْحَقِّ شَيْ ئاً
Fa'a`r iđ `An Man Tawallá `An Dh ikr inā Wa Lam Yur id 'Illā A l-Ĥayāata A d-Dun yā (An -Naj m : 29).
053.029 Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing but the life of this world.
فَأَعْرِ ضْ عَن ْ مَن ْ تَوَلَّى عَن ْ ذِكْرِ نَا وَلَمْ يُرِ دْ إِلاَّ ا لْحَيَا ةَ ا ل دُّنْ يَا
Dh ālika Mab lagh uhum Mina A l-`Ilmi ۚ 'Inn a Ra bbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đ alla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani A htadá (An -Naj m : 30).
053.030 That is as far as knowledge will reach them. Verily thy Lord knoweth best those who stray from His Path, and He knoweth best those who receive guidance.
ذَلِكَ مَبْ لَغُ هُمْ مِنَ ا لْعِلْمِ ۚ إِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ْ ضَ لَّ عَن ْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ا هْتَدَى
Wa Lill ā h Mā Fī A s-Samāwā ti Wa Mā Fī A l-'Arđi Liyajzi ya A l-Ladh ī na 'Asā 'ū Bimā `Amilū Wa Yaj ziya A l-Ladh ī na 'Aĥsanū Bil-Ĥusná (An -Naj m : 31).
053.031 Yea, to God belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: so that He rewards those who do evil, according to their deeds, and He rewards those who do good, with what is best.
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَمَا فِي ا لأَرْضِ لِيَجْ زِيَ ا لَّذِي نَ أَسَا ءُ وا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْ زِيَ ا لَّذِي نَ أَحْسَنُوا بِا لْحُسْنَى
Al-Ladh ī na Yaj tanibū na Kabā 'ir a A l-'Ith mi Wa A l-Fawāĥish a 'Illā A l-Lamama ۚ 'Inn a Ra bbaka Wāsi`u A l-Magh fira ti ۚ Huwa 'A`lamu Bikum 'Idh 'An sh a'akum Mina A l-'Arđi Wa 'Idh 'An tum 'Ajinn atun Fī Buţ ū ni 'Umm ahātikum ۖ Falā Tuzakkū 'An fusakum ۖ Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani A ttaq á (An -Naj m : 32).
053.032 Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only (falling into) small faults,- verily thy Lord is ample in forgiveness. He knows you well when He brings you out of the earth, And when ye are hidden in your mothers' wombs. Therefore justify not yourselves: He knows best who it is that guards against evil.
ا لَّذِي نَ يَجْ تَنِبُو نَ كَبَا ئِرَ ا لإِثْمِ وَا لْفَوَاحِشَ إِلاَّ ا ل لَّمَمَ ۚ إِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ وَاسِعُ ا لْمَغْ فِرَ ةِ ۚ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَن شَأَكُمْ مِنَ ا لأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْ تُمْ أَجِنَّ ةٌ فِي بُطُ و نِ أُمَّ هَاتِكُمْ ۖ فَلاَ تُزَكُّو ا أَن فُسَكُمْ ۖ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ ا تَّقَ ى
'Afara 'ay ta A l-Ladh ī Tawallá (An -Naj m : 33).
053.033 Seest thou one who turns back,
أَفَرَ أَيْ تَ ا لَّذِي تَوَلَّى
Wa 'A`ţ á Q alīlāan Wa 'Akdá (An -Naj m : 34).
053.034 Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)?
وَأَعْطَ ى قَ لِيلاً وَأَكْدَى
'A`in dahu `Ilmu A l-Gh ay bi Fahuwa Yará (An -Naj m : 35).
053.035 What! Has he knowledge of the Unseen so that he can see?
أَعِنْ دَهُ عِلْمُ ا لْغَ يْ بِ فَهُوَ يَرَ ى
'Am Lam Yunabba' Bimā Fī Ş uĥufi Mūsá (An -Naj m : 36).
053.036 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses-
أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُ حُفِ مُوسَى
Wa 'Ib rā hī ma A l-Ladh ī Wa Ffá (An -Naj m : 37).
053.037 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?-
وَإِبْ رَ اهِي مَ ا لَّذِي وَفَّى
'Allā Tazir u Wāzira tun Wizra 'Ukh rá (An -Naj m : 38).
053.038 Namely, that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another;
أَلاَّ تَزِر ُوَازِرَ ةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْ رَ ى
Wa 'An Lay sa Lil'in sā ni 'Illā Mā Sa`á (An -Naj m : 39).
053.039 That man can have nothing but what he strives for;
وَأَن ْ لَيْ سَ لِلإِن سَا نِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى
Wa 'Ann a Sa`yahu Saw fa Yurá (An -Naj m : 40).
053.040 That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight:
وَأَنّ َ سَعْيَهُ سَوْ فَ يُرَ ى
Th umm a Yuj zā hu A l-Jazā 'a A l-'Awfá (An -Naj m : 41).
053.041 Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete;
ثُمّ َ يُجْ زَا هُ ا لْجَزَا ءَ ا لأَوْفَى
Wa 'Ann a 'Ilá Ra bbika A l-Mun tahá (An -Naj m : 42).
053.042 That to thy Lord is the final Goal;
وَأَنّ َ إِلَى رَ بِّكَ ا لْمُنْ تَهَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Ađĥaka Wa 'Ab ká (An -Naj m : 43).
053.043 That it is He Who granteth Laughter and Tears;
وَأَنَّ هُ هُوَ أَضْ حَكَ وَأَبْ كَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Amā ta Wa 'Aĥyā (An -Naj m : 44).
053.044 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life;
وَأَنَّ هُ هُوَ أَمَا تَ وَأَحْيَا
Wa 'Ann ahu Kh alaq a A z-Zawjay ni A dh -Dh akara Wa A l-'Un th á (An -Naj m : 45).
053.045 That He did create in pairs,- male and female,
وَأَنَّ هُ خَ لَقَ ا ل زَّوْجَيْ نِ ا ل ذَّكَرَ وَا لأُنْ ثَى
Min Nuţ fatin 'Idh ā Tum ná (An -Naj m : 46).
053.046 From a seed when lodged (in its place);
مِن ْ نُطْ فَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَى
Wa 'Ann a `Alay hi A n -Nash 'ata A l-'Ukh rá (An -Naj m : 47).
053.047 That He hath promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead);
وَأَنّ َ عَلَيْ هِ ا ل نَّ شْأَةَ ا لأُخْ رَ ى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa 'Agh ná Wa 'Aq ná (An -Naj m : 48).
053.048 That it is He Who giveth wealth and satisfaction;
وَأَنَّ هُ هُوَ أَغْ نَى وَأَقْ نَى
Wa 'Ann ahu Huwa Ra bbu A sh -Sh i`rá (An -Naj m : 49).
053.049 That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star);
وَأَنَّ هُ هُوَ رَ بُّ ا ل شِّعْرَ ى
Wa 'Ann ahu 'Ahlaka `Ādāan A l-'Ūlá (An -Naj m : 50).
053.050 And that it is He Who destroyed the (powerful) ancient 'Ad (people),
وَأَنَّ هُ أَهْلَكَ عَاداً ا لأُ ولَى
Wa Th amū da Famā 'Ab q á (An -Naj m : 51).
053.051 And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life.
وَثَمُو دَ فَمَا أَبْ قَ ى
Wa Q aw ma Nūĥin Min Q ab lu ۖ 'Inn ahum Kānū Hum 'Ažlama Wa 'Aţ gh á (An -Naj m : 52).
053.052 And before them, the people of Noah, for that they were (all) most unjust and most insolent transgressors,
وَقَ وْ مَ نُو حٍ مِن ْ قَ بْ لُ ۖ إِنَّ هُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْ لَمَ وَأَطْ غَ ى
Wa A l-Mu'utafikata 'Ahwá (An -Naj m : 53).
053.053 And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah).
وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى
Fagh ash sh āhā Mā Gh ash sh á (An -Naj m : 54).
053.054 So that (ruins unknown) have covered them up.
فَغَ شَّاهَا مَا غَ شَّى
Fabi'ay yi 'Ālā 'i Ra bbika Tatamārá (An -Naj m : 55).
053.055 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about?
فَبِأَيِّ آلاَءِ رَ بِّكَ تَتَمَارَ ى
Hādh ā Nadh ī r un Mina A n -Nudh ur i A l-'Ūlá (An -Naj m : 56).
053.056 This is a Warner, of the (series of) Warners of old!
هَذَا نَذِي رٌ مِنَ ا ل نُّ ذُرِ ا لأُ ولَى
'Azifati A l-'Āzifah u (An -Naj m : 57).
053.057 The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh:
أَزِفَتِ ا لآزِفَةُ
Lay sa Lahā Min Dū ni A ll ā hi Kāsh ifah un (An -Naj m : 58).
053.058 No (soul) but God can lay it bare.
لَيْ سَ لَهَا مِن ْ دُو نِ ا للَّ هِ كَاشِفَةٌ
'Afamin Hādh ā A l-Ĥadīth i Ta`jabū na (An -Naj m : 59).
053.059 Do ye then wonder at this recital?
أَفَمِن ْ هَذَا ا لْحَدِي ثِ تَعْجَبُونَ
Wa Tađĥakū na Wa Lā Tab kū na (An -Naj m : 60).
053.060 And will ye laugh and not weep,-
وَتَضْ حَكُو نَ وَلاَ تَبْ كُونَ
Wa 'An tum Sāmidū na (An -Naj m : 61).
053.061 Wasting your time in vanities?
وَأَنْ تُمْ سَامِدُونَ
Fāsjudū Lill ā h Wa A `budū (An -Naj m : 62).
053.062 But fall ye down in prostration to God, and adore (Him)!
فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَا عْبُد ُوا
