Ş ād ۚ Wa A l-Q ur'ā ni Dh ī A dh -Dh ikr i (Ş ād : 1).
038.001 Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth).
صَ اد ۚ وَا لْقُ رْآنِ ذِي ا ل ذِّكْرِ
Bali A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Fī `Izzatin Wa Sh iq ā q in (Ş ād : 2).
038.002 But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism.
بَلِ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَ اقٍ
Kam 'Ahlaknā Min Q ab lihim Min Q arnin Fanādawā Walā ta Ĥī na Manāş in (Ş ād : 3).
038.003 How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved!
كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن ْ قَ بْ لِهِمْ مِن ْ قَ رْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلاَتَ حِي نَ مَنَاصٍ
Wa `Ajibū 'An Jā 'ahum Mun dh ir un Minhum ۖ Wa Q ā la A l-Kāfirū na Hādh ā Sāĥir un Kadh dh ā b un (Ş ād : 4).
038.004 So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!
وَعَجِبُو ا أَن ْ جَا ءَهُمْ مُنْ ذِرٌ مِنْ هُمْ ۖ وَقَ ا لَ ا لْكَافِرُو نَ هَذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ
'Aja`ala A l-'Ālihata 'Ilahāan Wāĥidāan ۖ 'Inn a Hādh ā Lash ay 'un `Ujā b un (Ş ād : 5).
038.005 "Has he made the gods (all) into one God? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"
أَجَعَلَ ا لآلِهَةَ إِلَهاً وَاحِداً ۖ إِنّ َ هَذَا لَشَيْ ءٌ عُجَابٌ
Wa A n ţ alaq a A l-Mala'u Minhum 'Ani A m sh ū Wa A ş birū `Alá 'Ālihatikum ۖ 'Inn a Hādh ā Lash ay 'un Yur ā d u (Ş ād : 6).
038.006 And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!
وَان طَ لَقَ ا لْمَلَأُ مِنْ هُمْ أَنِ ا مْشُوا وَا صْ بِرُوا عَلَى آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنّ َ هَذَا لَشَيْ ءٌ يُرَ ادُ
Mā Sami`nā Bihadh ā Fī A l-Millati A l-'Ākh ira ti 'In Hādh ā 'Illā A kh tilā q un (Ş ād : 7).
038.007 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!"
مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي ا لْمِلَّةِ ا لآخِ رَ ةِ إِن ْ هَذَا إِلاَّ ا خْ تِلاَقٌ
'A'uun zila `Alay hi A dh -Dh ikru Min Bayninā ۚ Bal Hum Fī Sh akkin Min Dh ikr ī ۖ Bal Lamm ā Yadh ūq ū `Adh ā b i (Ş ād : 8).
038.008 "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"...but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!
أَؤُن زِلَ عَلَيْ هِ ا ل ذِّكْرُ مِن ْ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِن ْ ذِكْرِ ي ۖ بَلْ لَمَّ ا يَذُوقُ وا عَذَابِ
'Am `In dahum Kh azā 'inu Ra ĥmati Ra bbika A l-`Azī zi A l-Wahhā b i (Ş ād : 9).
038.009 Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?
أَمْ عِنْ دَهُمْ خَ زَا ئِنُ رَ حْمَةِ رَ بِّكَ ا لْعَزِي زِ ا لْوَهَّابِ
'Am Lahum Mulku A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā ۖ Falyartaq ū Fī A l-'Asbā b i (Ş ād : 10).
038.010 Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!
أَمْ لَهُمْ مُلْكُ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُ وا فِي ا لأَسْبَابِ
Jun dun Mā Hunālika Mahzū mun Mina A l-'Aĥzā b i (Ş ād : 11).
038.011 But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates.
جُن دٌ مَا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُو مٌ مِنَ ا لأَحْزَابِ
Kadh dh abat Q ab lahum Q aw mu Nūĥin Wa `Ā dun Wa Fir `aw nu Dh ū A l-'Awtā d i (Ş ād : 12).
038.012 Before them (were many who) rejected apostles,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,
كَذَّبَتْ قَ بْ لَهُمْ قَ وْ مُ نُو حٍ وَعَا دٌ وَفِر ْعَوْ نُ ذُو ا لأَوْتَادِ
Wa Th amū du Wa Q aw mu Lūţ in Wa 'Aş ĥā bu A l-'Aykati ۚ 'Ūlā 'ika A l-'Aĥzā b u (Ş ād : 13).
038.013 And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates.
وَثَمُو دُ وَقَ وْ مُ لُو ط ٍ وَأَصْ حَا بُ ا لأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُ وْلَا ئِكَ ا لأَحْزَابُ
'In Kullun 'Illā Kadh dh aba A r-Ru sula Faĥaq q a `Iq ā b i (Ş ād : 14).
038.014 Not one (of them) but rejected the apostles, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).
إِن ْ كُلٌّ إِلاَّ كَذَّبَ ا ل رُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَ ابِ
Wa Mā Yan žuru Hā 'uulā ' 'Illā Ş ayĥatan Wāĥidatan Mā Lahā Min Fawā q in (Ş ād : 15).
038.015 These (today) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.
وَمَا يَن ظُ رُ هَا ؤُلاَء إِلاَّ صَ يْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَا لَهَا مِن ْ فَوَاقٍ
Wa Q ālū Ra bbanā `Ajjil Lanā Q iţ ţ anā Q ab la Yaw mi A l-Ĥisā b i (Ş ād : 16).
038.016 They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"
وَقَ الُوا رَ بَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِ طَّ نَا قَ بْ لَ يَوْ مِ ا لْحِسَابِ
A ş bir `Alá Mā Yaq ūlū na Wa A dh kur `Ab danā Dāwū da Dh ā A l-'Ay di ۖ 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un (Ş ād : 17).
038.017 Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to God).
ا صْ بِر ْ عَلَى مَا يَقُ ولُو نَ وَا ذْكُرْ عَبْ دَنَا دَاوُو دَ ذَا ا لأَيْ دِ ۖ إِنَّ هُ أَوَّابٌ
'Inn ā Sakh kh arnā A l-Jibā la Ma`ahu Yusabbiĥna Bil-`Ash ī yi Wa A l-'Ish r ā q i (Ş ād : 18).
038.018 It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,
إِنَّ ا سَخَّ رْنَا ا لْجِبَا لَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِا لْعَشِيِّ وَا لإِشْرَ اقِ
Wa A ţ -Ţ ay ra Maĥsh ūra tan ۖ Kullun Lahu 'Awwā b un (Ş ād : 19).
038.019 And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to God).
وَالطَّ يْ رَ مَحْشُورَ ةً ۖ كُلّ ٌ لَهُ أَوَّابٌ
Wa Sh adad nā Mulkahu Wa 'Ātaynā hu A l-Ĥikmata Wa Faş la A l-Kh iţ ā b i (Ş ād : 20).
038.020 We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.
وَشَدَدْ نَا مُلْكَهُ وَآتَيْنَا هُ ا لْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْ لَ ا لْخِ طَ ابِ
Wa Hal 'Atā ka Naba'u A l-Kh aş mi 'Idh Tasawwarū A l-Miĥr ā b a (Ş ād : 21).
038.021 Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;
وَهَلْ أَتَا كَ نَبَأُ ا لْخَ صْ مِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا ا لْمِحْرَ ابَ
'Idh Dakh alū `Alá Dāwū da Fafazi`a Minhum ۖ Q ālū Lā Takh af ۖ Kh aş mā ni Bagh á Ba`đunā `Alá Ba`đin Fāĥkum Baynanā Bil-Ĥaq q i Wa Lā Tush ţ iţ Wa A hdinā 'Ilá Sawā 'i A ş -Ş ir ā ţ i (Ş ād : 22).
038.022 When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path..
إِذْ دَخَ لُوا عَلَى دَاوُو دَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْ هُمْ ۖ قَ الُوا لاَ تَخَ فْ ۖ خَ صْ مَا نِ بَغَ ى بَعْضُ نَا عَلَى بَعْض ٍ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا بِا لْحَقِّ وَلاَ تُشْطِ ط ْ وَا هْدِنَا إِلَى سَوَا ءِ ا ل صِّ رَ اطِ
'Inn a Hādh ā 'Akh ī Lahu Tis`un Wa Tis`ū na Na`jatan Wa Liya Na`jatun Wāĥidatun Faq ā la 'Akfilnīhā Wa `Azzanī Fī A l-Kh iţ ā b i (Ş ād : 23).
038.023 "This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."
إِنّ َ هَذَا أَخِ ي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُو نَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَ ا لَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي ا لْخِ طَ ابِ
Q ā la Laq ad Ž alamaka Bisu'uā li Na`jatika 'Ilá Ni`ājihi ۖ Wa 'Inn a Kath īrā an Mina A l-Kh ulaţ ā 'i Layab gh ī Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin 'Illā A l-Ladh ī na 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Wa Q alī lun Mā Hum ۗ Wa Ž ann a Dāwū du 'Ann amā Fatann ā hu Fāstagh fara Ra bbahu Wa Kh arra Rā ki`āan Wa 'Anā b a (Ş ād : 24).
038.024 (David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"...and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to God in repentance).
قَ ا لَ لَقَ دْ ظَ لَمَكَ بِسُؤَا لِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَى نِعَاجِهِ ۖ وَإِنّ َ كَثِير اً مِنَ ا لْخُ لَطَ ا ءِ لَيَبْ غِ ي بَعْضُ هُمْ عَلَى بَعْض ٍ إِلاَّ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صَّ الِحَا تِ وَقَ لِي لٌ مَا هُمْ ۗ وَظَ نّ َ دَاوُو دُ أَنَّ مَا فَتَنّ َا هُ فَاسْتَغْ فَرَ رَ بَّهُ وَخَ رَّ رَ اكِعاً وَأَنَابَ
Fagh afarnā Lahu Dh ālika ۖ Wa 'Inn a Lahu `In danā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ā b in (Ş ād : 25).
038.025 So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (Final) Return.
فَغَ فَرْنَا لَهُ ذَلِكَ ۖ وَإِنّ َ لَهُ عِنْ دَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
Yā Dāwū du 'Inn ā Ja`alnā ka Kh alīfatan Fī A l-'Arđi Fāĥkum Bay na A n -Nā si Bil-Ĥaq q i Wa Lā Tattabi`i A l-Hawá Fayuđillaka `An Sabī li A ll ā hi ۚ 'Inn a A l-Ladh ī na Yađillū na `An Sabī li A ll ā hi Lahum `Adh ā bun Sh adī dun Bimā Nasū Yaw ma A l-Ĥisā b i (Ş ād : 26).
038.026 O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of God: for those who wander astray from the Path of God, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.
يَادَاوُو دُ إِنَّ ا جَعَلْنَا كَ خَ لِيفَةً فِي ا لأَرْضِ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْ نَ ا ل نّ َا سِ بِا لْحَقِّ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعِ ا لْهَوَى فَيُضِ لَّكَ عَن ْ سَبِي لِ ا للَّ هِ إِنّ َ ۚ ا لَّذِي نَ يَضِ لُّو نَ عَن ْ سَبِي لِ ا للَّ هِ لَهُمْ عَذَا بٌ شَدِي دٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْ مَ ا لْحِسَابِ
Wa Mā Kh alaq nā A s-Samā 'a Wa A l-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Bāţ ilāan ۚ Dh ālika Ž ann u A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū ۚ Faway lun Lilladh ī na Kafarū Mina A n -Nā r i (Ş ād : 27).
038.027 Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! that were the thought of Unbelievers! but woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!
وَمَا خَ لَقْ نَا ا ل سَّمَا ءَ وَا لأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِ لاً ۚ ذَلِكَ ظَ نّ ُ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْ ل ٌ لِلَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ ا ل نَّ ارِ
'Am Naj `alu A l-Ladh ī na 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Kālmufsidī na Fī A l-'Arđi 'Am Naj `alu A l-Muttaq ī na Kālfujjā r i (Ş ād : 28).
038.028 Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil, the same as those who turn aside from the right?
أَمْ نَجْ عَلُ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صَّ الِحَا تِ كَالْمُفْسِدِي نَ فِي ا لأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْ عَلُ ا لْمُتَّقِ ي نَ كَالْفُجَّارِ
Kitā bun 'An zalnā hu 'Ilay ka Mubāra kun Liyadda bbarū 'Āyātihi Wa Liyatadh akkara 'Ūlū A l-'Albā b i (Ş ād : 29).
038.029 (Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.
كِتَا بٌ أَن زَلْنَا هُ إِلَيْ كَ مُبَارَ ك ٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُو ا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُ وْلُوا ا لأَلْبَابِ
Wa Wahab nā Lidāwū da Sulaymā na ۚ Ni`ma A l-`Ab du ۖ 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un (Ş ād : 30).
038.030 To David We gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!
وَوَهَبْ نَا لِدَاوُو دَ سُلَيْمَا نَ ۚ نِعْمَ ا لْعَبْ دُ ۖ إِنَّ هُ أَوَّابٌ
'Idh `Ur iđa `Alay hi Bil-`Ash ī yi A ş -Ş āfinā tu A l-Jiyā d u (Ş ād : 31).
038.031 Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot;
إِذْ عُرِ ضَ عَلَيْ هِ بِا لْعَشِيِّ ا ل صَّ افِنَا تُ ا لْجِيَادُ
Faq ā la 'Inn ī 'Aĥbab tu Ĥubba A l-Kh ay r i `An Dh ikr i Ra bbī Ĥattá Tawāra t Bil-Ĥijā b i (Ş ād : 32).
038.032 And he said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord,"- until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of night):
فَقَ ا لَ إِنِّ ي أَحْبَبْ تُ حُبَّ ا لْخَ يْ رِ عَن ْ ذِكْرِ رَ بِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَ تْ بِا لْحِجَابِ
Ru ddūhā `Alay ya ۖ Faţ afiq a Masĥāan Bis-Sū q i Wa A l-'A`nā q i (Ş ād : 33).
038.033 "Bring them back to me." then began he to pass his hand over (their) legs and their necks.
رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَ فِقَ مَسْحاً بِا ل سُّو قِ وَا لأَعْنَاقِ
Wa Laq ad Fatann ā Sulaymā na Wa 'Alq aynā `Alá Kursīyihi Jasadāan Th umm a 'Anā b a (Ş ād : 34).
038.034 And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):
وَلَقَ دْ فَتَنَّ ا سُلَيْمَا نَ وَأَلْقَ يْنَا عَلَى كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَداً ثُمَّ أَنَابَ
Q ā la Ra bbi A gh fir Lī Wa Hab Lī Mulkāan Lā Yan bagh ī Li'ĥadin Min Ba`dī ۖ 'Inn aka 'An ta A l-Wahhā b u (Ş ād : 35).
038.035 He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure).
قَ ا لَ رَ بِّ ا غْ فِر ْ لِي وَهَب ْ لِي مُلْكاً لاَ يَنْ بَغِ ي لِأحَدٍ مِن ْ بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّ كَ أَنْ تَ ا لْوَهَّابُ
Fasakh kh arnā Lahu A r-R ī ĥa Taj r ī Bi'am r ihi Ru kh ā 'an Ĥay th u 'Aş ā b a (Ş ād : 36).
038.036 Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,-
فَسَخَّ رْنَا لَهُ ا ل رِّي حَ تَجْ رِ ي بِأَمْرِ هِ رُخَ ا ءً حَيْ ثُ أَصَ ابَ
Wa A sh -Sh ayāţ ī na Kulla Bann ā 'in Wa Gh awwāş in (Ş ād : 37).
038.037 As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver,-
وَالشَّيَاطِ ي نَ كُلَّ بَنّ َا ءٍ وَغَ وَّاصٍ
Wa 'Ākh ar ī na Muq arra nī na Fī A l-'Aş fā d i (Ş ād : 38).
038.038 As also others bound together in fetters.
وَآخَ ر ِي نَ مُقَ رَّ نِي نَ فِي ا لأَصْ فَادِ
Hādh ā `Aţ ā 'uunā Fām nun 'Aw 'Am sik Bigh ay r i Ĥisā b in (Ş ād : 39).
038.039 "Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."
هَذَا عَطَ ا ؤُنَا فَامْنُن ْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَ يْ رِ حِسَابٍ
Wa 'Inn a Lahu `In danā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ā b in (Ş ād : 40).
038.040 And he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful Place of (Final) Return.
وَإِنّ َ لَهُ عِنْ دَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
Wa A dh kur `Ab danā 'Ayyū ba 'Idh Nādá Ra bbahu 'Ann ī Massanī A sh -Sh ayţ ā nu Binuş bin Wa `Adh ā b in (Ş ād : 41).
038.041 Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"
وَاذْكُرْ عَبْ دَنَا أَيُّو بَ إِذْ نَادَى رَ بَّهُ أَنِّ ي مَسَّنِي ا ل شَّيْطَ ا نُ بِنُصْ بٍ وَعَذَابٍ
A rkuđ Bir ij lika ۖ Hādh ā Mugh tasalun Bār idun Wa Sh ar ā b un (Ş ād : 42).
038.042 (The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink."
ا رْكُضْ بِرِ جْ لِكَ ۖ هَذَا مُغْ تَسَلٌ بَارِ دٌ وَشَرَ ابٌ
Wa Wahab nā Lahu 'Ahlahu Wa Mith lahum Ma`ahum Ra ĥmatan Minn ā Wa Dh ikrá Li'wl 99 A l-'Albā b i (Ş ād : 43).
038.043 And We gave him (back) his people, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding.
وَوَهَبْ نَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَ حْمَةً مِنَّ ا وَذِكْرَ ى لِأو ْلِي ا لأَلْبَابِ
Wa Kh udh Biyadika Đ igh th āan Fāđr ib Bihi Wa Lā Taĥnath ۗ 'Inn ā Wa Jad nā hu Ş ābirā an ۚ Ni`ma A l-`Ab du ۖ 'Inn ahu 'Awwā b un (Ş ād : 44).
038.044 "And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!
وَخُ ذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِ غْ ثاً فَاضْ رِ ب ْ بِهِ وَلاَ تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّ ا وَجَدْ نَا هُ صَ ابِر اً ۚ نِعْمَ ا لْعَبْ دُ ۖ إِنَّ هُ أَوَّابٌ
Wa A dh kur `Ibādanā 'Ib rā hī ma Wa 'Isĥā q a Wa Ya`q ū ba 'Ūlī A l-'Ayd 99 Wa A l-'Ab ş ā r i (Ş ād : 45).
038.045 And commemorate Our Servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.
وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إبْ رَ اهِي مَ وَإِسْحَا قَ وَيَعْقُ و بَ أُ وْلِي ا لأَيْدِي وَا لأَبْ صَ ارِ
'Inn ā 'Akh laş nāhum Bikh āliş atin Dh ikrá A d-Dā r i (Ş ād : 46).
038.046 Verily We did choose them for a special (purpose)- proclaiming the Message of the Hereafter.
إِنَّ ا أَخْ لَصْ نَاهُمْ بِخَ الِصَ ةٍ ذِكْرَ ى ا ل دَّارِ
Wa 'Inn ahum `In danā Lamina A l-Muş ţ afay na A l-'Akh yā r i (Ş ād : 47).
038.047 They were, in Our sight, truly, of the company of the Elect and the Good.
وَإِنَّ هُمْ عِنْ دَنَا لَمِنَ ا لْمُصْ طَ فَيْ نَ ا لأَخْ يَارِ
Wa A dh kur 'Ismā`ī la Wa A l-Yasa`a Wa Dh ā A l-Kifli ۖ Wa Kullun Mina A l-'Akh yā r i (Ş ād : 48).
038.048 And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul-Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good.
وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِي لَ وَا لْيَسَعَ وَذَا ا لْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِنَ ا لأَخْ يَارِ
Hādh ā Dh ikru n ۚ Wa 'Inn a Lilmuttaq ī na Laĥusna Ma'ā b in (Ş ād : 49).
038.049 This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, for the righteous, is a beautiful Place of (Final) Return,-
هَذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِ ي نَ لَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ
Jann ā ti `Ad nin Mufattaĥatan Lahumu A l-'Ab wā b u (Ş ād : 50).
038.050 Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;
جَنّ َا تِ عَدْ نٍ مُفَتَّحَة ً لَهُمُ ا لأَبْ وَابُ
Muttaki'ī na Fīhā Yad `ū na Fīhā Bifākihatin Kath īra tin Wa Sh ar ā b in (Ş ād : 51).
038.051 Therein will they recline (at ease): Therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance, and (delicious) drink;
مُتَّكِئِي نَ فِيهَا يَدْ عُو نَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَ ةٍ وَشَرَ ابٍ
Wa `In dahum Q āş ir ā tu A ţ -Ţ arfi 'Atr ā b un (Ş ād : 52).
038.052 And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.
وَعِنْ دَهُمْ قَ اصِ رَ ا تُ ا ل طَّ رْفِ أَتْرَ ابٌ
Hādh ā Mā Tū`adū na Liyaw mi A l-Ĥisā b i (Ş ād : 53).
038.053 Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account!
هَذَا مَا تُوعَدُو نَ لِيَوْ مِ ا لْحِسَابِ
'Inn a Hādh ā Lar izq unā Mā Lahu Min Nafā d in (Ş ād : 54).
038.054 Truly such will be Our Bounty (to you); it will never fail;-
إِنّ َ هَذَا لَرِ زْقُ نَا مَا لَهُ مِن ْ نَفَادٍ
Hādh ā ۚ Wa 'Inn a Lilţ ţ āgh ī na Lash arra Ma'ā b in (Ş ād : 55).
038.055 Yea, such! but - for the wrong-doers will be an evil place of (Final) Return!-
هَذَا ۚ وَإِنّ َ لِلطَّ اغِ ي نَ لَشَرَّ مَآبٍ
Jahann ama Yaş lawnahā Fabi'sa A l-Mihā d u (Ş ād : 56).
038.056 Hell!- they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie on)!-
جَهَنَّ مَ يَصْ لَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ ا لْمِهَادُ
Hādh ā Falyadh ūq ū hu Ĥamī mun Wa Gh assā q un (Ş ād : 57).
038.057 Yea, such! - then shall they taste it,- a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky, intensely cold!-
هَذَا فَلْيَذُوقُ و هُ حَمِي مٌ وَغَ سَّاقٌ
Wa 'Ākh aru Min Sh aklihi 'Azwā j un (Ş ād : 58).
038.058 And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match them!
وَآخَ رُ مِن ْ شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَاجٌ
Hādh ā Faw jun Muq taĥimun Ma`akum ۖ Lā Marĥabāan Bihim ۚ 'Inn ahum Ş ālū A n -Nā r i (Ş ād : 59).
038.059 Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly, they shall burn in the Fire!
هَذَا فَوْ جٌ مُقْ تَحِمٌ مَعَكُمْ ۖ لاَ مَرْحَباً بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ هُمْ صَ الُوا ا ل نَّ ارِ
Q ālū Bal 'An tum Lā Marĥabāan Bikum ۖ 'An tum Q addam tumū hu Lanā ۖ Fabi'sa A l-Q ar ā ru (Ş ād : 60).
038.060 (The followers shall cry to the misleaders:) "Nay, ye (too)! No welcome for you! It is ye who have brought this upon us! Now evil is (this) place to stay in!"
قَ الُوا بَلْ أَنْ تُمْ لاَ مَرْحَباً بِكُمْ ۖ أَنْ تُمْ قَ دَّمْتُمُو هُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ ا لْقَ رَ ارُ
Q ālū Ra bbanā Man Q addama Lanā Hādh ā Fazid /hu `Adh ābāan Đ i`fāan Fī A n -Nā r i (Ş ād : 61).
038.061 They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us,- Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!"
قَ الُوا رَ بَّنَا مَن ْ قَ دَّمَ لَنَا هَذَا فَزِدْ هُ عَذَاباً ضِ عْفاً فِي ا ل نَّ ارِ
Wa Q ālū Mā Lanā Lā Nará R ijālāan Kunn ā Na`udduhum Mina A l-'Ash rā r (Ş ād : 62).
038.062 And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones?
وَقَ الُوا مَا لَنَا لاَ نَرَ ى رِ جَالاً كُنَّ ا نَعُدُّهُمْ مِنَ ا لأَشْرَ ار
'Ā ttakh adh nāhum Sikh r īy 7an 'Am Zāgh at `Anhumu A l-'Ab ş ā ru (Ş ād : 63).
038.063 "Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"
أَا تَّخَ ذْنَاهُمْ سِخْ رِ يّاً أَمْ زَاغَ تْ عَنْ هُمُ ا لأَبْ صَ ارُ
'Inn a Dh ālika Laĥaq q un Takh āş umu 'Ahli A n -Nā r i (Ş ād : 64).
038.064 Truly that is just and fitting,- the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire!
إِنّ َ ذَلِكَ لَحَقّ ٌ تَخَ اصُ مُ أَهْلِ ا ل نَّ ارِ
Q ul 'Inn amā 'Anā Mun dh ir un ۖ Wa Mā Min 'Ilahin 'Illā A l-Lahu A l-Wāĥidu A l-Q ahhā ru (Ş ād : 65).
038.065 Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the one God, Supreme and Irresistible,-
قُ لْ إِنَّ مَا أَنَا مُن ذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِن ْ إِلَهٍ إِلاَّ ا للَّ هُ ا لْوَاحِدُ ا لْقَ هَّارُ
Ra bbu A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā A l-`Azī zu A l-Gh affā ru (Ş ād : 66).
038.066 "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- Exalted in Might, able to enforce His Will, forgiving again and again."
رَ بُّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ا لْعَزِي زُ ا لْغَ فَّارُ
Q ul Huwa Naba'un `Ažī mun (Ş ād : 67).
038.067 Say: "That is a Message Supreme (above all),-
قُ لْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِ يمٌ
'An tum `Anhu Mu`r iđū na (Ş ād : 68).
038.068 "From which ye do turn away!
أَنْ تُمْ عَنْ هُ مُعْرِ ضُ ونَ
Mā Kā na Liya Min `Ilmin Bil-Mala'i A l-'A`lá 'Idh Yakh taş imū na (Ş ād : 69).
038.069 "No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.
مَا كَا نَ لِيَ مِن ْ عِلْمٍ بِا لْمَلَإِ ا لأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْ تَصِ مُونَ
'In Yūĥá 'Ilay ya 'I llā 'Ann amā 'Anā Nadh ī r un Mubī nun (Ş ād : 70).
038.070 'Only this has been revealed to me: that I am to give warning plainly and publicly."
إِن ْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلاَّ أَنَّ مَا أَنَا نَذِي رٌ مُبِينٌ
'Idh Q ā la Ra bbuka Lilmalā 'ikati 'Inn ī Kh āliq un Bash arā an Min Ţ ī nin (Ş ād : 71).
038.071 Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:
إِذْ قَ ا لَ رَ بُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّ ي خَ الِق ٌ بَشَراً مِن ْ طِ ينٍ
Fa'idh ā Sawwaytu hu Wa Nafakh tu Fī hi Min Rūĥī Faq a`ū Lahu Sājidī na (Ş ād : 72).
038.072 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْ تُ فِي هِ مِن ْ رُوحِي فَقَ عُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ
Fasajada A l-Malā 'ikatu Kulluhum 'Aj ma`ū na (Ş ād : 73).
038.073 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:
فَسَجَدَ ا لْمَلاَئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْ مَعُونَ
'Illā 'Ib lī sa A stakbara Wa Kā na Mina A l-Kāfir ī na (Ş ād : 74).
038.074 Not so Iblis: he was haughty, and became one of those who reject Faith.
إِلاَّ إِبْ لِي سَ ا سْتَكْبَرَ وَكَا نَ مِنَ ا لْكَافِرِ ينَ
Q ā la Yā 'Ib lī su Mā Mana`aka 'An Tasjuda Limā Kh alaq tu Biyaday ya ۖ 'Āstakbarta 'Am Kun ta Mina A l-`Ālī na (Ş ād : 75).
038.075 (God) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"
قَ ا لَ يَاإِبْ لِي سُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَن ْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَ لَقْ تُ بِيَدَيَّ ۖ أَ اسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُن تَ مِنَ ا لْعَالِينَ
Q ā la 'Anā Kh ay ru n Minhu ۖ Kh alaq tanī Min Nā r in Wa Kh alaq tahu Min Ţ ī nin (Ş ād : 76).
038.076 (Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay."
قَ ا لَ أَنَا خَ يْ رٌ مِنْ هُ ۖ خَ لَقْ تَنِي مِن ْ نَا رٍ وَخَ لَقْ تَهُ مِن ْ طِ ينٍ
Q ā la Fākh ru j Minhā Fa'inn aka Ra jī mun (Ş ād : 77).
038.077 (God) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed.
قَ ا لَ فَاخْ رُج ْ مِنْ هَا فَإِنَّ كَ رَ جِيمٌ
Wa 'Inn a `Alay ka La`natī 'Ilá Yaw mi A d-Dī ni (Ş ād : 78).
038.078 "And My curse shall be on thee till the Day of Judgment."
وَإِنّ َ عَلَيْ كَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْ مِ ا ل دِّينِ
Q ā la Ra bbi Fa'an žir nī 'Ilá Yaw mi Yub `ath ū na (Ş ād : 79).
038.079 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."
قَ ا لَ رَ بِّ فَأَن ظِ ر ْنِي إِلَى يَوْ مِ يُبْ عَثُونَ
Q ā la Fa'inn aka Mina A l-Mun žar ī na (Ş ād : 80).
038.080 (God) said: "Respite then is granted thee-
قَ ا لَ فَإِنَّ كَ مِنَ ا لْمُن ظَ رِ ينَ
'Ilá Yaw mi A l-Waq ti A l-Ma`lū mi (Ş ād : 81).
038.081 "Till the Day of the Time Appointed."
إِلَى يَوْ مِ ا لْوَقْ تِ ا لْمَعْلُومِ
Q ā la Fabi`izzatika La'ugh wiyann ahum 'Aj ma`ī na (Ş ād : 82).
038.082 (Iblis) said: "Then, by Thy power, I will put them all in the wrong,-
قَ ا لَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْ وِيَنَّ هُمْ أَجْ مَعِينَ
'Illā `Ibādaka Minhumu A l-Mukh laş ī na (Ş ād : 83).
038.083 "Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."
إِلاَّ عِبَادَكَ مِنْ هُمُ ا لْمُخْ لَصِ ينَ
Q ā la Fālĥaq q u Wa A l-Ĥaq q a 'Aq ū lu (Ş ād : 84).
038.084 (God) said: "Then it is just and fitting- and I say what is just and fitting-
قَ ا لَ فَالْحَقُّ وَا لْحَقَّ أَقُ ولُ
La'am la'ann a Jahann ama Min ka Wa Mimm an Tabi`aka Minhum 'Aj ma`ī na (Ş ād : 85).
038.085 "That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and those that follow thee,- every one."
لَأَمْلَأَنّ َ جَهَنَّ مَ مِنْ كَ وَمِمَّ ن ْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْ هُمْ أَجْ مَعِينَ
Q ul Mā 'As'alukum `Alay hi Min 'Aj r in Wa Mā 'Anā Mina A l-Mutakallifī na (Ş ād : 86).
038.086 Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this (Qur'an), nor am I a pretender.
قُ لْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْ هِ مِن ْ أَجْ رٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ ا لْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ
'In Huwa 'I llā Dh ikru n Lil`ālamī na (Ş ād : 87).
038.087 "This is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds.
إِن ْ هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ
Wa Lata`lamunn a Naba'ahu Ba`da Ĥī nin (Ş ād : 88).
038.088 "And ye shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while."
وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ
