Wa An-Najmi 'Idhā Hawá  | 053.001 By the Star when it setteth, | وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَى |
Mā Đalla Şāĥibukum Wa Mā Ghawá  | 053.002 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; | مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَى |
Wa Mā Yanţiqu `Ani Al-Hawá  | 053.003 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. | وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَى |
'In Huwa 'Illā Waĥyun Yūĥá  | 053.004 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, | إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ وَحْي ٌ يُوحَى |
`Allamahu Shadīdu Al-Quwá  | 053.005 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, | عَلَّمَه ُُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَى |
Dhū Mirratin Fāstawá  | 053.006 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view | ذُو مِرَّة ٍ فَاسْتَوَى |
Wa Huwa Bil-'Ufuqi Al-'A`lá  | 053.007 When he was on the uppermost horizon. | وَهُوَ بِالأُفُقِ الأَعْلَى |
Thumma Danā Fatadallá  | 053.008 Then he drew nigh and came down | ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّى |
Fakāna Qāba Qawsayni 'Aw 'Adná  | 053.009 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, | فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَى |
Fa'awĥá 'Ilá `Abdihi Mā 'Awĥá  | 053.010 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. | فَأَوْحَى إِلَى عَبْدِه ِِ مَا أَوْحَى |
Mā Kadhaba Al-Fu'uādu Mā Ra'á  | 053.011 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. | مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَى |
'Afatumārūnahu `Alá Mā Yará  | 053.012 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth ? | أَفَتُمَارُونَه ُُ عَلَى مَا يَرَى |
Wa Laqad Ra'āhu Nazlatan 'Ukhrá  | 053.013 And verily he saw him yet another time | وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَى |
`Inda Sidrati Al-Muntahá  | 053.014 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, | عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى |
`Indahā Jannatu Al-Ma'wá  | 053.015 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. | عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَى |
'Idh Yaghshá As-Sidrata Mā Yaghshá  | 053.016 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, | إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَى |
Mā Zāgha Al-Başaru Wa Mā Ţaghá  | 053.017 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. | مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَى |
Laqad Ra'á Min 'Āyāti Rabbihi Al-Kubrá  | 053.018 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. | لَقَدْ رَأَى مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَى |
'Afara'aytumu Al-Lāta Wa Al-`Uzzá  | 053.019 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللاَّتَ وَالْعُزَّى |
Wa Manāata Ath-Thālithata Al-'Ukhrá  | 053.020 And Manat, the third, the other ? | وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الأُخْرَى |
'Alakumu Adh-Dhakaru Wa Lahu Al-'Unthá  | 053.021 Are yours the males and His the females ? | أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الأُنثَى |
Tilka 'Idhāan Qismatun Đīzá  | 053.022 That indeed were an unfair division! | تِلْكَ إِذا ً قِسْمَة ٌ ضِيزَى |
'In Hiya 'Illā 'Asmā'un Sammaytumūhā 'Antum Wa 'Ābā'uukum Mā 'Anzala Allāhu Bihā Min Sulţānin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illā Až-Žanna Wa Mā Tahwá Al-'Anfusu Wa Laqad Jā'ahum Min Rabbihimu Al-Hudá  | 053.023 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. | إِنْ هِيَ إِلاَّ أَسْمَاء ٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَان ٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الأَنْفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَى |
'Am Lil'insāni Mā Tamanná  | 053.024 Or shall man have what he coveteth ? | أَمْ لِلإِنسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّى |
Falillāhi Al-'Ākhiratu Wa Al-'Ūlá  | 053.025 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. | فَلِلَّهِ الآخِرَةُ وَالأُولَى |
Wa Kam Min Malakin Fī As-Samāwāti Lā Tughnī Shafā`atuhum Shay'āan 'Illā Min Ba`di 'An Ya'dhana Allāhu Liman Yashā'u Wa Yarđá  | 053.026 And how many angels are in the heavens whose intercession availeth naught save after Allah giveth leave to whom He chooseth and accepteth. | وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَك ٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لاَ تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئا ً إِلاَّ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَى |
'Inna Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bil-'Ākhirati Layusammūna Al-Malā'ikata Tasmiyata Al-'Unthá  | 053.027 Lo! it is those who disbelieve in the Hereafter who name the angels with the names of females. | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الأُنْثَى |
Wa Mā Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illā Až-Žanna Wa 'Inna Až-Žanna Lā Yughnī Mina Al-Ĥaqqi Shay'āan  | 053.028 And they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and lo! a guess can never take the place of the truth. | وَمَا لَهُمْ بِه ِِ مِنْ عِلْم ٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلاَّ الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لاَ يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئا ً |
Fa'a`riđ `An Man Tawallá `An Dhikrinā Wa Lam Yurid 'Illā Al-Ĥayāata Ad-Dunyā  | 053.029 Then withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who fleeth from Our remembrance and desireth but the life of the world. | فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّى عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلاَّ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا |
Dhālika Mablaghuhum Mina Al-`Ilmi 'Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Ahtadá  | 053.030 Such is their sum of knowledge. Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth, and He is Best Aware of him whom goeth right. | ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِه ِِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَى |
Wa Lillahi Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Liyajziya Al-Ladhīna 'Asā'ū Bimā `Amilū Wa Yajziya Al-Ladhīna 'Aĥsanū Bil-Ĥusná  | 053.031 And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil with that which they have done, and reward those who do good with goodness. | وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى |
Al-Ladhīna Yajtanibūna Kabā'ira Al-'Ithmi Wa Al-Fawāĥisha 'Illā Al-Lamama 'Inna Rabbaka Wāsi`u Al-Maghfirati Huwa 'A`lamu Bikum 'Idh 'Ansha'akum Mina Al-'Arđi Wa 'Idh 'Antum 'Ajinnatun Fī Buţūni 'Ummahātikum Falā Tuzakkū 'Anfusakum Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Attaqá  | 053.032 Those who avoid enormities of sin and abominations, save the unwilled offences - (for them) lo! thy Lord is of vast mercy. He is Best Aware of you (from the time) when He created you from the earth, and when ye were hidden in the bellies of your mothers. Therefor ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is Best Aware of him who wardeth off (evil). | الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلاَّ اللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّة ٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ فَلاَ تُزَكُّوا أَنفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَى |
'Afara'ayta Al-Ladhī Tawallá  | 053.033 Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, | أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّى |
Wa 'A`ţá Qalīlāan Wa 'Akdá  | 053.034 And gave a little, then was grudging ? | وَأَعْطَى قَلِيلا ً وَأَكْدَى |
'A`indahu `Ilmu Al-Ghaybi Fahuwa Yará  | 053.035 Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth ? | أَعِنْدَه ُُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَى |
'Am Lam Yunabba' Bimā Fī Şuĥufi Mūsá  | 053.036 Or hath he not had news of what is in the books of Moses | أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى |
Wa 'Ibrāhīma Al-Ladhī Wa Ffá  | 053.037 And Abraham who paid his debt: | وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّى |
'Allā Taziru Wāziratun Wizra 'Ukhrá  | 053.038 That no laden one shall bear another's load, | أَلاَّ تَزِرُ وَازِرَة ٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى |
Wa 'An Laysa Lil'insāni 'Illā Mā Sa`á  | 053.039 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, | وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلإِنسَانِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى |
Wa 'Anna Sa`yahu Sawfa Yurá  | 053.040 And that his effort will be seen. | وَأَنَّ سَعْيَه ُُ سَوْفَ يُرَى |
Thumma Yujzāhu Al-Jazā'a Al-'Awfá  | 053.041 And afterward he will be repaid for it with fullest payment; | ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الأَوْفَى |
Wa 'Anna 'Ilá Rabbika Al-Muntahá  | 053.042 And that thy Lord, He is the goal; | وَأَنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَى |
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Ađĥaka Wa 'Abká  | 053.043 And that He it is who maketh laugh, and maketh weep, | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَى |
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Amāta Wa 'Aĥyā  | 053.044 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا |
Wa 'Annahu Khalaqa Az-Zawjayni Adh-Dhakara Wa Al-'Unthá  | 053.045 And that He createth the two spouses, the male and the female, | وَأَنَّه ُُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالأُنْثَى |
Min Nuţfatin 'Idhā Tumná  | 053.046 From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; | مِنْ نُطْفَة ٍ إِذَا تُمْنَى |
Wa 'Anna `Alayhi An-Nash'ata Al-'Ukhrá  | 053.047 And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; | وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الأُخْرَى |
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Aghná Wa 'Aqná  | 053.048 And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ أَغْنَى وَأَقْنَى |
Wa 'Annahu Huwa Rabbu Ash-Shi`rá  | 053.049 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; | وَأَنَّه ُُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَى |
Wa 'Annahu 'Ahlaka `Ādāan Al-'Ūlá  | 053.050 And that He destroyed the former (tribe of) A'ad, | وَأَنَّهُ~ُ أَهْلَكَ عَادا ً الأُولَى |
Wa Thamūda Famā 'Abqá  | 053.051 And (the tribe of) Thamud He spared not; | وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَى |
Wa Qawma Nūĥin Min Qablu 'Innahum Kānū Hum 'Ažlama Wa 'Aţghá  | 053.052 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; | وَقَوْمَ نُوح ٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَى |
Wa Al-Mu'utafikata 'Ahwá  | 053.053 And Al-Mu'tafikah He destroyed | وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَى |
Faghashshāhā Mā Ghashshá  | 053.054 So that there covered them that which did cover. | فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّى |
Fabi'ayyi 'Ālā'i Rabbika Tatamārá  | 053.055 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute ? | فَبِأَيِّ آلاَءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَى |
Hādhā Nadhīrun Mina An-Nudhuri Al-'Ūlá  | 053.056 This is a warner of the warners of old. | هَذَا نَذِير ٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الأُولَى |
'Azifati Al-'Āzifahu  | 053.057 The threatened Hour is nigh. | أَزِفَتِ الآزِفَةُ |
Laysa Lahā Min Dūni Allāhi Kāshifahun  | 053.058 None beside Allah can disclose it. | لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَة ٌ |
'Afamin Hādhā Al-Ĥadīthi Ta`jabūna  | 053.059 Marvel ye then at this statement, | أَفَمِنْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ |
Wa Tađĥakūna Wa Lā Tabkūna  | 053.060 And laugh and not weep, | وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلاَ تَبْكُونَ |
Wa 'Antum Sāmidūna  | 053.061 While ye amuse yourselves ? | وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ |
Fāsjudū Lillāhi Wa A`budū  | 053.062 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. | فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا |
