Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa
| Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), (Al-'Alaq 96:1)
|
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ |
Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin
| Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (Al-'Alaq 96:2)
|
خَلَقَ الإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ |
Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu
| Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, (Al-'Alaq 96:3)
|
اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ |
Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami
| Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)], (Al-'Alaq 96:4)
|
الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ |
`Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam
| Has taught man that which he knew not. (Al-'Alaq 96:5)
|
عَلَّمَ الإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ |
Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá
| Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). (Al-'Alaq 96:6)
|
كَلاَّ إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَى |
'An Ra'āhu Astaghná
| Because he considers himself self-sufficient. (Al-'Alaq 96:7)
|
أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى |
'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á
| Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. (Al-'Alaq 96:8)
|
إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى |
'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá
| Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abû Jahl) who prevents, (Al-'Alaq 96:9)
|
أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى |
`Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá
| A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? (Al-'Alaq 96:10)
|
عَبْدا ً إِذَا صَلَّى |
'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá
| Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allāh)? (Al-'Alaq 96:11)
|
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى |
'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá
| Or enjoins piety? (Al-'Alaq 96:12)
|
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى |
'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá
| Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abû Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Qur'ān), and turns away? (Al-'Alaq 96:13)
|
أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى |
'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Allāha Yará
| Knows he not that Allāh does see (what he does)? (Al-'Alaq 96:14)
|
أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى |
Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`āan Bin-Nāşiyati
| Nay! If he (Abû Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, (Al-'Alaq 96:15)
|
كَلاَّ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعَا ً بِالنَّاصِيَةِ |
Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'atin
| A lying, sinful forelock! (Al-'Alaq 96:16)
|
نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ |
Falyad`u Nādiyah
| Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), (Al-'Alaq 96:17)
|
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَه |
Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyata
| We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! (Al-'Alaq 96:18)
|
سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ |
Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib
| Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abû Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allāh! (Al-'Alaq 96:19)

كَلاَّ لاَ تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ |
