Wa A l-Faj r i
By the dawn; (Al-Fajr 89:1)
وَالْفَجْ ر ِ
Wa Layā lin `Ash r in
By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hījjah), (Al-Fajr 89:2)
وَلَيَا لٍ عَشْرٍ
Wa A sh -Sh af`i Wa A l-Watr i
And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allāh). (Al-Fajr 89:3)
وَالشَّفْعِ وَا لْوَتْر ِ
Wa A l-Lay li 'Idh ā Yasr i
And by the night when it departs. (Al-Fajr 89:4)
وَاللَّيْ لِ إِذَا يَسْر ِ
Hal Fī Dh ālika Q asamun Lidh ī Ĥij r in
There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! (Al-Fajr 89:5)
هَلْ فِي ذَلِكَ قَ سَم ٌ لِذِي حِجْ رٍ
'Alam Tara Kay fa Fa`ala Ra bbuka Bi`ā d in
Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? (Al-Fajr 89:6)
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْ فَ فَعَلَ رَ بُّكَ بِعَادٍ
'Ira ma Dh ā ti A l-`Imā di
Who were very tall like lofty pillars, (Al-Fajr 89:7)
إِرَ مَ ذَا تِ ا لْعِمَادِ
Allatī Lam Yukh laq Mith luhā Fī A l-Bilā di
The like of which were not created in the land? (Al-Fajr 89:8)
ا لَّتِي لَمْ يُخْ لَق ْ مِثْلُهَا فِي ا لْبِلاَدِ
Wa Th amū da A l-Ladh ī na Jābū A ş -Ş akh ra Bil-Wā di
And (with) Thamûd (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? (Al-Fajr 89:9)
وَثَمُو دَ ا لَّذِي نَ جَابُوا ا ل صَّ خْ رَ بِا لْوَادِ
Wa Fir `aw na Dh ī A l-'Awtā di
And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? (Al-Fajr 89:10)
وَفِر ْعَوْ نَ ذِي ا لأَوْتَادِ
Al-Ladh ī na Ţ agh aw Fī A l-Bilā di
Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allāh). (Al-Fajr 89:11)
ا لَّذِي نَ طَ غَ وْا فِي ا لْبِلاَدِ
Fa'akth arū Fīhā A l-Fasā da
And made therein much mischief. (Al-Fajr 89:12)
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا ا لْفَسَادَ
Faş abba `Alayhim Ra bbuka Sawţ a `Adh ā b in
So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. (Al-Fajr 89:13)
فَصَ بَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَ بُّكَ سَوْ طَ عَذَابٍ
'Inn a Ra bbaka Labiālmir ş ā di
Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). (Al-Fajr 89:14)
إِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَبِالْمِر ْصَ ادِ
Fa'amm ā A l-'In sā nu 'Idh ā Mā A b talā hu Ra bbuhu Fa'akra mahu Wa Na``amahu Fayaq ū lu Ra bbī 'Akra mani
As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." (Al-Fajr 89:15)
فَأَمَّ ا ا لإِن سَا نُ إِذَا مَا ا بْ تَلاَهُ رَ بُّهُ فَأَكْرَ مَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُ و لُ رَ بِّي أَكْرَ مَنِ
Wa 'Amm ā 'Idh ā Mā A b talā hu Faq adara `Alay hi R izq ahu Fayaq ū lu Ra bbī 'Ahānani
But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" (Al-Fajr 89:16)
وَأَمَّ ا إِذَا مَا ا بْ تَلاَهُ فَقَ دَرَ عَلَيْ هِ ر ِزْقَ هُ فَيَقُ و لُ رَ بِّي أَهَانَنِ
Kallā ۖ Bal Lā Tukr imū na A l-Yatī ma
Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! (Al-Fajr 89:17)
كَلاَّ ۖ بَل لاَ تُكْر ِمُو نَ ا لْيَتِيمَ
Wa Lā Taĥā đđū na `Alá Ţ a`ā mi A l-Miskī ni
And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskīn (the poor)! (Al-Fajr 89:18)
وَلاَ تَحَا ضُّ و نَ عَلَى طَ عَا مِ ا لْمِسْكِينِ
Wa Ta'kulū na A t-Turā th a 'Aklāan Lamm āan
And you devour inheritance all with greed, (Al-Fajr 89:19)
وَتَأْكُلُو نَ ا ل تُّرَ ا ثَ أَكْلا ً لَمّ اً
Wa Tuĥibbū na A l-Mā la Ĥubbāan Jamm āan
And you love wealth with much love! (Al-Fajr 89:20)
وَتُحِبُّو نَ ا لْمَا لَ حُبّا ً جَمّ اً
Kallā 'Idh ā Dukkati A l-'Arđu Dakkāan Dakkāan
Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, (Al-Fajr 89:21)
كَلاَّ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ا لأَرْضُ دَكّا ً دَكّاً
Wa Jā 'a Ra bbuka Wa A l-Malaku Ş affāan Ş affāan
And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, (Al-Fajr 89:22)
وَجَا ءَ رَ بُّكَ وَا لْمَلَكُ صَ فّا ً صَ فّاً
Wa Jī 'a Yawma'idh in Bijahann ama ۚ Yawma'idh in Yatadh akkaru A l-'In sā nu Wa 'Ann á Lahu A dh -Dh ikrá
And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? (Al-Fajr 89:23)
وَجِي ءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّ مَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ا لإِنْ سَا نُ وَأَنَّ ى لَهُ ا ل ذِّكْرَ ى
Yaq ū lu Yā Laytanī Q addam tu Liĥayātī
He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" (Al-Fajr 89:24)
يَقُ و لُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَ دَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
Fayawma'idh in Lā Yu`adh dh ibu `Adh ābahu~ 'Aĥad un
So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. (Al-Fajr 89:25)
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لاَ يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ~ُ أَحَدٌ
Wa Lā Yūth iq u Wath āq ahu~ 'Aĥad un
And none will bind as He will bind. (Al-Fajr 89:26)
وَلاَ يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَ هُ~ُ أَحَدٌ
Yā 'Ayyatuhā A n -Nafsu A l-Muţ ma'inn atu
(It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (Al-Fajr 89:27)
يَا أَيَّتُهَا ا ل نَّ فْسُ ا لْمُطْ مَئِنَّ ةُ
A rji`ī 'Ilá Ra bbiki Rā điyatan Marđīyatan
"Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! (Al-Fajr 89:28)
ا رْجِعِي إِلَى رَ بِّكِ رَ اضِ يَة ً مَرْضِ يَّةً
Fād kh ulī Fī `Ibādī
"Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, (Al-Fajr 89:29)
فَاد ْخُ لِي فِي عِبَادِي
Wa A d kh ulī Jann atī
"And enter you My Paradise!" (Al-Fajr 89:30)
وَاد ْخُ لِي جَنَّ تِي
