Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi  | I swear by this city (Makkah); (Al-Balad 90:1) | لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi  | And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islām on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah), (Al-Balad 90:2) | وَأَنْتَ حِلّ ٌ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada  | And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); (Al-Balad 90:3) | وَوَالِد ٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ |
Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin  | Verily, We have created man in toil. (Al-Balad 90:4) | لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَد ٍ |
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun  | Thinks he that none can overcome him? (Al-Balad 90:5) | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَد ٌ |
Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan  | He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" (Al-Balad 90:6) | يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالا ً لُبَدا ً |
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun  | Thinks he that none sees him? (Al-Balad 90:7) | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ~ُ أَحَد ٌ |
'Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni  | Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? (Al-Balad 90:8) | أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَه ُُ عَيْنَيْنِ |
Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni  | And a tongue and a pair of lips? (Al-Balad 90:9) | وَلِسَانا ً وَشَفَتَيْنِ |
Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni  | And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? (Al-Balad 90:10) | وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ |
Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha  | But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. (Al-Balad 90:11) | فَلاَ اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ |
Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu  | And what will make you know the path that is steep? (Al-Balad 90:12) | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ |
Fakku Raqabahin  | (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.). (Al-Balad 90:13) | فَكُّ رَقَبَة ٍ |
'Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin  | Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), (Al-Balad 90:14) | أَوْ إِطْعَام ٌ فِي يَوْم ٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَة ٍ |
Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin  | To an orphan near of kin. (Al-Balad 90:15) | يَتِيما ً ذَا مَقْرَبَة ٍ |
'Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin  | Or to a Miskīn (poor) afflicted with misery. (Al-Balad 90:16) | أَوْ مِسْكِينا ً ذَا مَتْرَبَة ٍ |
Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşaw Bil-Marĥamahi  | Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. (Al-Balad 90:17) | ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ |
'Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi  | They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), (Al-Balad 90:18) | أُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi  | But those who disbelieved in Our Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). (Al-Balad 90:19) | وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
`Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun  | The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. (Al-Balad 90:20) | عَلَيْهِمْ نَار ٌ مُؤصَدَة ٌ |
