Lā 'Uq simu Bihadh ā A l-Baladi
I swear by this city (Makkah); (Al-Balad 90:1)
لاَ أُقْ سِمُ بِهَذَا ا لْبَلَدِ
Wa 'An ta Ĥillun Bihadh ā A l-Baladi
And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islām on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah), (Al-Balad 90:2)
وَأَنْ تَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا ا لْبَلَدِ
Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada
And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); (Al-Balad 90:3)
وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ
Laq ad Kh alaq nā A l-'In sā na Fī Kabad in
Verily, We have created man in toil. (Al-Balad 90:4)
لَقَ د ْ خَ لَقْ نَا ا لإِن سَا نَ فِي كَبَ دٍ
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaq dira `Alay hi 'Aĥad un
Thinks he that none can overcome him? (Al-Balad 90:5)
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن ْ لَن ْ يَقْ دِر َ عَلَيْ هِ أَحَدٌ
Yaq ū lu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan
He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" (Al-Balad 90:6)
يَقُ و لُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالا ً لُبَداً
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yara hu~ 'Aĥad un
Thinks he that none sees him? (Al-Balad 90:7)
أَيَحْسَبُ أَن ْ لَمْ يَرَ هُ~ُ أَحَدٌ
'Alam Naj `al Lahu `Aynay ni
Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? (Al-Balad 90:8)
أَلَمْ نَجْ عَلْ لَهُ عَيْنَيْنِ
Wa Lisānāan Wa Sh afatay ni
And a tongue and a pair of lips? (Al-Balad 90:9)
وَلِسَانا ً وَشَفَتَيْنِ
Wa Hadaynā hu A n -Naj day ni
And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? (Al-Balad 90:10)
وَهَدَيْنَا هُ ا ل نَّ جْ دَيْنِ
Falā A q taĥama A l-`Aq abata
But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. (Al-Balad 90:11)
فَلاَ ا قْ تَحَمَ ا لْعَقَ بَ ةَ
Wa Mā 'Ad r ā ka Mā A l-`Aq abatu
And what will make you know the path that is steep? (Al-Balad 90:12)
وَمَا أَد ْرَ ا كَ مَا ا لْعَقَ بَ ةُ
Fakku Ra q abatin
(It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.). (Al-Balad 90:13)
فَكُّ رَ قَ بَ ةٍ
'Aw 'Iţ `ā mun Fī Yaw min Dh ī Masgh abatin
Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), (Al-Balad 90:14)
أَوْ إِطْ عَا مٌ فِي يَوْ مٍ ذِي مَسْغَ بَ ةٍ
Yatīmāan Dh ā Maq ra batin
To an orphan near of kin. (Al-Balad 90:15)
يَتِيما ً ذَا مَقْ رَ بَ ةٍ
'Aw Miskīnāan Dh ā Matra batin
Or to a Miskīn (poor) afflicted with misery. (Al-Balad 90:16)
أَوْ مِسْكِينا ً ذَا مَتْرَ بَ ةٍ
Th umm a Kā na Mina A l-Ladh ī na 'Āmanū Wa Tawāş aw Biş -Ş ab r i Wa Tawāş aw Bil-Marĥamati
Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. (Al-Balad 90:17)
ثُمّ َ كَا نَ مِنَ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَ وْا بِا ل صَّ بْ ر ِ وَتَوَاصَ وْا بِا لْمَرْحَمَةِ
'Ūlā 'ika 'Aş ĥā bu A l-Maymanati
They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), (Al-Balad 90:18)
أُ وْلَا ئِكَ أَصْ حَا بُ ا لْمَيْمَنَةِ
Wa A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aş ĥā bu A l-Mash 'amati
But those who disbelieved in Our Ayāt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). (Al-Balad 90:19)
وَالَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْ حَا بُ ا لْمَشْأَمَةِ
`Alayhim Nā ru n Mu'uş adatun
The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. (Al-Balad 90:20)
