'Idhā Waqa`ati Al-Wāqi`ahu  | 056.001 When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, | إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ |
Laysa Liwaq`atihā Kādhibahun  | 056.002 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. | لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَة ٌ |
Khāfiđatun Rāfi`ahun  | 056.003 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; | خَافِضَة ٌ رَافِعَة ٌ |
'Idhā Rujjati Al-'Arđu Rajjāan  | 056.004 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, | إِذَا رُجَّتِ الأَرْضُ رَجّا ً |
Wa Bussati Al-Jibālu Bassāan  | 056.005 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, | وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسّا ً |
Fakānat Habā'an Munbaththāan  | 056.006 Becoming dust scattered abroad, | فَكَانَتْ هَبَاء ً مُنْبَثّا ً |
Wa Kuntum 'Azwājāan Thalāthahan  | 056.007 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. | وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجا ً ثَلاَثَة ً |
Fa'aşĥābu Al-Maymanati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi  | 056.008 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? | فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi  | 056.009 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? | وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
Wa As-Sābiqūna As-Sābiqūna  | 056.010 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). | وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ |
'Ūlā'ika Al-Muqarrabūna  | 056.011 These will be those Nearest to God: | أُوْلَائِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ |
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi  | 056.012 In Gardens of Bliss: | فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna  | 056.013 A number of people from those of old, | ثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Qalīlun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna  | 056.014 And a few from those of later times. | وَقَلِيل ٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
`Alá Sururin Mawđūnahin  | 056.015 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), | عَلَى سُرُر ٍ مَوْضُونَة ٍ |
Muttaki'īna `Alayhā Mutaqābilīna  | 056.016 Reclining on them, facing each other. | مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ |
Yaţūfu `Alayhim Wildānun Mukhalladūna  | 056.017 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), | يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَان ٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ |
Bi'akwābin Wa 'Abārīqa Wa Ka'sin Min Ma`īnin  | 056.018 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: | بِأَكْوَاب ٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْس ٍ مِنْ مَعِين ٍ |
Lā Yuşadda`ūna `Anhā Wa Lā Yunzifūna  | 056.019 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: | لاَ يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلاَ يُنزِفُونَ |
Wa Fākihatin Mimmā Yatakhayyarūna  | 056.020 And with fruits, any that they may select: | وَفَاكِهَة ٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ |
Wa Laĥmi Ţayrin Mimmā Yashtahūna  | 056.021 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. | وَلَحْمِ طَيْر ٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ |
Wa Ĥūrun `Īnun  | 056.022 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- | وَحُورٌ عِين ٌ |
Ka'amthāli Al-Lu'ulu'ui Al-Maknūni  | 056.023 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. | كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ |
Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna  | 056.024 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). | جَزَاء ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
Lā Yasma`ūna Fīhā Laghwan Wa Lā Ta'thīmāan  | 056.025 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- | لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوا ً وَلاَ تَأْثِيما ً |
'Illā Qīlāan Salāmāan Salāmāan  | 056.026 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". | إِلاَّ قِيلا ً سَلاَما ً سَلاَما ً |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni  | 056.027 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? | وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ |
Fī Sidrin Makhđūdin  | 056.028 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, | فِي سِدْر ٍ مَخْضُود ٍ |
Wa Ţalĥin Manđūdin  | 056.029 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- | وَطَلْح ٍ مَنْضُود ٍ |
Wa Žillin Mamdūdin  | 056.030 In shade long-extended, | وَظِلّ ٍ مَمْدُود ٍ |
Wa Mā'in Maskūbin  | 056.031 By water flowing constantly, | وَمَاء ٍ مَسْكُوب ٍ |
Wa Fākihatin Kathīrahin  | 056.032 And fruit in abundance. | وَفَاكِهَة ٍ كَثِيرَة ٍ |
Lā Maqţū`atin Wa Lā Mamnū`ahin  | 056.033 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, | لاَ مَقْطُوعَة ٍ وَلاَ مَمْنُوعَة ٍ |
Wa Furushin Marfū`ahin  | 056.034 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. | وَفُرُش ٍ مَرْفُوعَة ٍ |
'Innā 'Ansha'nāhunna 'Inshā'an  | 056.035 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. | إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاء ً |
Faja`alnāhunna 'Abkārāan  | 056.036 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - | فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارا ً |
`Urubāan 'Atrābāan  | 056.037 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- | عُرُباً أَتْرَابا ً |
Li'aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | 056.038 For the Companions of the Right Hand. | لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna  | 056.039 A (goodly) number from those of old, | ثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Thullatun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna  | 056.040 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. | وَثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli Mā 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli  | 056.041 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? | وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ |
Fī Samūmin Wa Ĥamīmin  | 056.042 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, | فِي سَمُوم ٍ وَحَمِيم ٍ |
Wa Žillin Min Yaĥmūmin  | 056.043 And in the shades of Black Smoke: | وَظِلّ ٍ مِنْ يَحْمُوم ٍ |
Lā Bāridin Wa Lā Karīmin  | 056.044 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: | لاَ بَارِد ٍ وَلاَ كَرِيم ٍ |
'Innahum Kānū Qabla Dhālika Mutrafīna  | 056.045 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), | إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ |
Wa Kānū Yuşirrūna `Alá Al-Ĥinthi Al-`Ažīmi  | 056.046 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! | وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ |
Wa Kānū Yaqūlūna 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūna  | 056.047 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- | وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابا ً وَعِظَاماً أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ |
'Awa 'Ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna  | 056.048 "(We) and our fathers of old?" | أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الأَوَّلُونَ |
Qul 'Inna Al-'Awwalīna Wa Al-'Ākhirīna  | 056.049 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, | قُلْ إِنَّ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ |
Lamajmū`ūna 'Ilá Mīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūmin  | 056.050 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. | لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْم ٍ مَعْلُوم ٍ |
Thumma 'Innakum 'Ayyuhā Ađ-Đāllūna Al-Mukadhdhibūna  | 056.051 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- | ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ |
La'ākilūna Min Shajarin Min Zaqqūmin  | 056.052 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. | لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَر ٍ مِنْ زَقُّوم ٍ |
Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna  | 056.053 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, | فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ |
Fashāribūna `Alayhi Mina Al-Ĥamīmi  | 056.054 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: | فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ |
Fashāribūna Shurba Al-Hīmi  | 056.055 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" | فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ |
Hādhā Nuzuluhum Yawma Ad-Dīni  | 056.056 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! | هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ |
Naĥnu Khalaqnākum Falawlā Tuşaddiqūna  | 056.057 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? | نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلاَ تُصَدِّقُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Tumnūna  | 056.058 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ |
'A'antum Takhluqūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Al-Khāliqūna  | 056.059 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? | أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ |
Naĥnu Qaddarnā Baynakumu Al-Mawta Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna  | 056.060 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated | نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila 'Amthālakum Wa Nunshi'akum Fī Mā Lā Ta`lamūna  | 056.061 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. | عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ |
Wa Laqad `Alimtumu An-Nash'ata Al-'Ūlá Falawlā Tadhkkarūna  | 056.062 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? | وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الأُولَى فَلَوْلاَ تَذكَّرُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Taĥruthūna  | 056.063 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ |
'A'antum Tazra`ūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Az-Zāri`ūna  | 056.064 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? | أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Laja`alnāhu Ĥuţāmāan Fažalaltum Tafakkahūna  | 056.065 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, | لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاه ُُ حُطَاما ً فَظَلَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ |
'Innā Lamughramūna  | 056.066 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): | إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ |
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna  | 056.067 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" | بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu Al-Mā'a Al-Ladhī Tashrabūna  | 056.068 See ye the water which ye drink? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ |
'A'antum 'Anzaltumūhu Mina Al-Muzni 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munzilūna  | 056.069 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوه ُُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Ja`alnāhu 'Ujājāan Falawlā Tashkurūna  | 056.070 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? | لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ~ُ أُجَاجا ً فَلَوْلاَ تَشْكُرُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu An-Nāra Allatī Tūrūna  | 056.071 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ |
'A'antum 'Ansha'tum Shajaratahā 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munshi'ūna  | 056.072 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِئُونَ |
Naĥnu Ja`alnāhā Tadhkiratan Wa Matā`āan Lilmuqwīna  | 056.073 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. | نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَة ً وَمَتَاعا ً لِلْمُقْوِينَ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi  | 056.074 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Bimawāqi`i An-Nujūmi  | 056.075 Furthermore I call to witness the setting of the Stars,- | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ |
Wa 'Innahu Laqasamun Law Ta`lamūna `Ažīmun  | 056.076 And that is indeed a mighty adjuration if ye but knew,- | وَإِنَّه ُُ لَقَسَم ٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيم ٌ |
'Innahu Laqur'ānun Karīmun  | 056.077 That this is indeed a qur'an Most Honourable, | إِنَّه ُُ لَقُرْآن ٌ كَرِيم ٌ |
Fī Kitābin Maknūnin  | 056.078 In Book well-guarded, | فِي كِتَاب ٍ مَكْنُون ٍ |
Lā Yamassuhu 'Illā Al-Muţahharūna  | 056.079 Which none shall touch but those who are clean: | لاَ يَمَسُّهُ~ُ إِلاَّ الْمُطَهَّرُونَ |
Tanzīlun Min Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna  | 056.080 A Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. | تَنزِيل ٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
'Afabihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi 'Antum Mud/hinūna  | 056.081 Is it such a Message that ye would hold in light esteem? | أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ |
Wa Taj`alūna Rizqakum 'Annakum Tukadhdhibūna  | 056.082 And have ye made it your livelihood that ye should declare it false? | وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ |
Falawlā 'Idhā Balaghati Al-Ĥulqūma  | 056.083 Then why do ye not (intervene) when (the soul of the dying man) reaches the throat,- | فَلَوْلاَ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ |
Wa 'Antum Ĥīna'idhin Tanžurūna  | 056.084 And ye the while (sit) looking on,- | وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذ ٍ تَنظُرُونَ |
Wa Naĥnu 'Aqrabu 'Ilayhi Minkum Wa Lakin Lā Tubşirūna  | 056.085 But We are nearer to him than ye, and yet see not,- | وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَكِنْ لاَ تُبْصِرُونَ |
Falawlā 'In Kuntum Ghayra Madīnīna  | 056.086 Then why do ye not,- If you are exempt from (future) account,- | فَلَوْلاَ إِنْ كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ |
Tarji`ūnahā 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna  | 056.087 Call back the soul, if ye are true (in the claim of independence)? | تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
Fa'ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Muqarrabīna  | 056.088 Thus, then, if he be of those Nearest to God, | فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ |
Farawĥun Wa Rayĥānun Wa Jannatu Na`īmin  | 056.089 (There is for him) Rest and Satisfaction, and a Garden of Delights. | فَرَوْح ٌ وَرَيْحَان ٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيم ٍ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | 056.090 And if he be of the Companions of the Right Hand, | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Fasalāmun Laka Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni  | 056.091 (For him is the salutation), "Peace be unto thee", from the Companions of the Right Hand. | فَسَلاَم ٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Mukadhdhibīna Ađ-Đāllīna  | 056.092 And if he be of those who treat (Truth) as Falsehood, who go wrong, | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ |
Fanuzulun Min Ĥamīmin  | 056.093 For him is Entertainment with Boiling Water. | فَنُزُل ٌ مِنْ حَمِيم ٍ |
Wa Taşliyatu Jaĥīmin  | 056.094 And burning in Hell-Fire. | وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيم ٍ |
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Ĥaqqu Al-Yaqīni  | 056.095 Verily, this is the Very Truth and Certainly. | إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi  | 056.096 So celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme. | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
