| THIS CHAPTER containing 11 verses from the Madinese period was revealed after the previous one on Battle Array 61 and before Victory 48. It describes the Prophet's increasing troubles with his Jewish neighbors in and around Madina, and contains the famous parable on "The Donkey Carrying Books" (i), concerning those who do not practise what they preach, nor profit from what they can learn. | Yusabbiĥu Lillahi Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Al-Maliki Al-Quddūsi Al-`Azīzi Al-Ĥakīmi | 062-001* Whatever is in Heaven and whatever is on Earth celebrates God the Sovereign [Who is] the Holy, the Powerful, the Wise! | يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ |
| Huwa Al-Ladhī Ba`atha Fī Al-'Ummīyīna Rasūlāan Minhum Yatlū `Alayhim 'Āyātihi Wa Yuzakkīhim Wa Yu`allimuhumu Al-Kitāba Wa Al-Ĥikmata Wa 'In Kānū Min Qablu Lafī Đalālin Mubīnin | 062-002* He is the One Who has despatched a messenger from the Unlettered [people] among themselves, to recite His verses to them and purify them and teach them the Book and wisdom, even though previously they were in obvious error; | هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي الأُمِّيِّينَ رَسُولا ً مِنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِه ِِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلاَلٍ مُبِين ٍ |
| Wa 'Ākharīna Minhum Lammā Yalĥaqū Bihim ۚ Wa Huwa Al-`Azīzu Al-Ĥakīmu | 062-003* as well as others of them who have not yet joined them. He is the Powerful, the Wise! | وَآخَرِينَ مِنْهُمْ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ |
| Dhālika Fađlu Al-Lahi Yu'utīhi Man Yashā'u Wa ۚ Allāhu Dhū Al-Fađli Al-`Ažīmi | 062-004* Such is God's bounty which He gives to anyone He wishes. God possesses splendid bounty! The Donkey Carrying Books | ذَلِكَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيه ِِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ |
| Mathalu Al-Ladhīna Ĥummilū At-Tawrāata Thumma Lam Yaĥmilūhā Kamathali Al-Ĥimāri Yaĥmilu 'Asfārāan ۚ Bi'sa Mathalu Al-Qawmi Al-Ladhīna Kadhdhabū Bi'āyāti Al-Lahi Wa ۚ Allāhu Lā Yahdī Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna | 062-005* Those who are laden with the Old Testament, yet do not carry it out may be compared to a donkey who is carrying scriptures. It is such a dreadful way to have to compare people who reject God's signs! God does not guide such wrongdoing folk. | مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا التَّوْرَاةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارا ً ۚ بِئْسَ مَثَلُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ |
| Qul Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna Hādū 'In Za`amtum 'Annakum 'Awliyā 'U Lillahi Min Dūni An-Nāsi Fatamannaw Al-Mawta 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna | 062-006* SAY: "You who are Jews, if you claim to be God's adherents ahead of [other] people, then long for death if you are so truthful. | قُلْ يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ هَادُوا إِنْ زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ لِلَّهِ مِنْ دُونِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوْا الْمَوْتَ إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
| Wa Lā Yatamannawnahu 'Abadāan Bimā Qaddamat 'Aydīhim Wa ۚ Allāhu `Alīmun Biž-Žālimīna | 062-007* They will never long for it because of what their hands have already done. God is Aware as to who are wrongdoers. | وَلاَ يَتَمَنَّوْنَهُ~ُ أَبَدا ً بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ |
| Qul 'Inna Al-Mawta Al-Ladhī Tafirrūna Minhu Fa'innahu Mulāqīkum ۖ Thumma Turaddūna 'Ilá `Ālimi Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Fayunabbi'ukum Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna | 062-008* SAY: "If it is death that you flee, it will still overtake you. Then you will be sent back to the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible; He will notify you about whatever you have been doing." Friday's Prayers ii) | قُلْ إِنَّ الْمَوْتَ الَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّه ُ مُلاَقِيكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَى عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Idhā Nūdī Lilşşalāati Min Yawmi Al-Jumu`ati Fās`aw 'Ilá Dhikri Al-Lahi Wa Dharū Al-Bay`a ۚ Dhālikum Khayrun Lakum 'In Kuntum Ta`lamūna | 062-009* You who believe, when [the call to] prayer is announced on the day of Congregation. hasten to remember God and close your [place of] business. That will be better for you if you only realized it. | يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نُودِي لِلصَّلاَةِ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَى ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ ذَلِكُمْ ۚ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ |
| Fa'idhā Quđiyati Aş-Şalāatu Fāntashirū Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Abtaghū Min Fađli Al-Lahi Wa Adhkurū Al-Laha Kathīrāan La`allakum Tufliĥūna | 062-010* Once prayer has been performed, then disperse throughout the land and seek God's bounty. Remember God frequently so that you may prosper. | فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَا نتَشِرُوا فِي الأَرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرا ً لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ |
| Wa 'Idhā Ra'aw Tijāratan 'Aw Lahwan Anfađđū 'Ilayhā Wa Tarakūka Qā'imāan ۚ Qul Mā `Inda Al-Lahi Khayrun Mina Al-Lahwi Wa Mina At-Tijārati Wa ۚ Allāhu Khayru Ar-Rāziqīna | 062-011* Yet whenever they see some business or some sport they flock towards it and leave you standing there [alone]. SAY: "Whatever God has is better than any sport or business. God is the Best Provider!" | وَإِذَا رَأَوْا تِجَارَةً أَوْ لَهْوا ً انفَضُّوا إِلَيْهَا وَتَرَكُوكَ قَائِما ً ۚ قُلْ مَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ اللَّهْوِ وَمِنَ التِّجَارَةِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ |
