THIS CHAPTER WAS revealed in sequence after the previous one on [Signs] Spelled Out 41 and before the next, Luxury 43. It consists of five sections of 53 late Meccan verses, except for vv. 23-24 and v. 27 which are all in section III, and date from Madina. The consultation referred to in v.38 (IV(C) gives us a basis for democratic action which is often quoted even though it is not a full guide for parliamentary procedure. God's attributes (I) should become clear to those who associate others with Him (II). Morals and ethics from another theme (IV), especially in cases of self defense and protection. Lahu Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi ۖ Wa Huwa Al-`Alīyu Al-`Ažīmu    042-004* He owns whatever is in Heaven and whatever is on earth; He is the Sublime, the Almighty! ‌ ‌ ‍‌‍‍‌ ‌‌ ‌‍ ۖ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Takādu As-Samāwātu Yatafaţţarna Min Fawqihinna Wa ۚ Al-Malā'ikatu Yusabbiĥūna Biĥamdi Rabbihim Wa Yastaghfirūna Liman Al-'Arđi ۗ 'Alā 'Inna Al-Laha Huwa Al-Ghafūru Ar-Raĥīmu    042-005* The heavens almost burst apart above them as the angels hymn their Lord's praise and seek forgiveness for whoever in on earth. Wa Al-Ladhīna Attakhadhū Min Dūnihi 'Awliyā'a Al-Lahu Ĥafīžun `Alayhim Wa Mā 'Anta `Alayhim Biwakīlin    042-006* Those whom they adopt as patrons instead of Him will still have God as an Overseer, while you are no agent [set up] over them. ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‍ ‌‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‌‌ ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‌ ‍‍ ‍‍‍‍
Wa Kadhalika 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayka Qur'ānāan `Arabīyāan Litundhira 'Umma Al-Qurá Wa Man Ĥawlahā Wa Tundhira Yawma Al-Jam`i Lā Rayba Fīhi ۚ Farīqun Al-Jannati Wa Farīqun As-Sa`īri    042-007* Thus We have inspired you with an Arabic reading so you may warn the Mother Town and anyone around her, and warn about the Day of Gathering there is no doubt will take place. Wa Law Shā'a Al-Lahu Laja`alahum 'Ummatan Wāĥidatan Wa Lakin Yudkhilu Man Yashā'u Fī Raĥmatihi Wa ۚ Až-Žālimūna Mā Lahum Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin    042-008* If God so wished, He would have set them up as a single community, but He admits anyone He wishes into His mercy while wrongdoers will have no patron nor any supporter. ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‍ ‌‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‌‍ ‍‍‌ ۚ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
'Am Attakhadhū Min Dūnihi 'Awliyā'a ۖ Fa-Allāhu Huwa Al-Walīyu Wa Huwa Yuĥyī Al-Mawtá Wa Huwa `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun    042-009* Why, have they adopted other patrons instead of Him? God is the [Only] Patron; He revives the dead; He is Capable of everything!

Wa Mā Akhtalaftum Fīhi Min Shay'in Faĥukmuhu 'Ilá Al-Lahi ۚ Dhalikumu Al-Lahu Rabbī `Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wa 'Ilayhi 'Unību    042-010* No matter what you (all ) may have differed over in any way, its jurisdiction still [remains] up to God.
A Hymn to God Such is God, my Lord; on Him have I relied and to Him do I refer.

ţiru As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi ۚ Ja`ala Lakum Min 'Anfusikum 'Azwājāan Wa Mina Al-'An`ām 'Azwājāan ۖ Yadhra'uukum Fīhi ۚ Laysa Kamithlihi Shay'un ۖ Wa Huwa As-Samī`u Al-Başīru    042-011* Originator of Heaven and Earth, He has granted you spouses from among yourselves, as well as pairs of livestock by means of which He multiplies you. Lahu Maqālīdu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi ۖ Yabsuţu Ar-Rizqa Liman Yashā'u Wa Yaqdiru ۚ 'Innahu Bikulli Shay'in `Alīmun    042-012* He holds the controls over Heaven and earth; He extends sustenance and measures it out to anyone He wishes. He is Aware of everything! ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‌‍‍‌‌‍ ۖ‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‌‍‍‍‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌
Shara`a Lakum Mina Ad-Dīni Mā Waşşá Bihi Nūĥāan Wa Al-Ladhī 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayka Wa Mā Waşşaynā Bihi 'Ibhīma Wa Mūsá Wa `Īsá ۖ 'An 'Aqīmū Ad-Dīna Wa Lā Tatafarraqū Fīhi ۚ Kabura `Alá Al-Mushrikīna Mā Tad`ūhum 'Ilayhi ۚ Al-Lahu Yajtabī 'Ilayhi Man Yashā'u Wa Yahdī 'Ilayhi Man Yunību    042-013* He has instituted the [same] religion for you [Muslims] as He recommended for Noah, and which We have inspired in you and recommended for Abraham, Moses and Jesus: "Maintain religion and do not stir up any divisions within it."
Associates Will Not Listen What you invent them to do seems unacceptable for associators. God chooses anyone He wishes for Himself and guides to Himself anyone who repents.
‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌‌‍‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‌ ۖ ‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۚ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍ۚ ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍
Wa Mā Tafarraqū 'Illā Min Ba`di Mā Jā'ahumu Al-`Ilmu Baghyāan Baynahum ۚ Wa Lawlā Kalimatun Sabaqat Min Rabbika 'Ilá 'Ajalin Musammáan Laquđiya Baynahum ۚ Wa 'Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Ūrithū Al-Kitāba Min Ba`dihim Lafī Shakkin Minhu Murībin    042-014* They only separated after knowledge had come to them, because of envy towards one another. If word from your lord had not already gone ahead till a specific period, things would already have been determined among them. Those who inherited the Book after them feel a suspicious doubt concerning it. ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ۚ ‌‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‍ ‌‍ ‌‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ۚ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Falidhalika Fād`u ۖ Wa Astaqim Kamā 'Umirta ۖ Wa Lā Tattabi` 'Ahwā'ahum ۖ Wa Qul 'Āmantu Bimā 'Anzala Al-Lahu Min Kitābin ۖ Wa 'Umirtu Li'`dila Baynakumu ۖ Al-Lahu Rabbunā Wa Rabbukum ۖ Lanā 'A`mālunā Wa Lakum 'A`mālukum ۖ Lā Ĥujjata Baynanā Wa Baynakumu ۖ Al-Lahu Yajma`u Baynanā ۖ Wa 'Ilayhi Al-Maşīru    042-015* Therefore appeal [to them] and keep straight on just as you have been ordered to; do not follow their whims, and say [instead]: "I believe in whatever God has sent down [on the form] of a Book, and have commanded to deal justly with you (all). God is our Lord as well as your Lord. We have our actions while you have your actions; no quarrel exists between us and you. God will bring us (all) together; towards Him lies the goal! ۖ‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۖ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‌ۖ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‌‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ‌‌‍‍ ‍ ‍‌‍‍ۖ ‌‌ ۖ ‍ ‌‍‌ ‌‌‍ ۖ‍‌ ‌‌ ‌ ‌ ۖ ‌ ‌ ‌ ۖ ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ۖ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuĥājjūna Fī Al-Lahi Min Ba`di Mā Astujība Lahu Ĥujjatuhum Dāĥiđatun `Inda Rabbihim Wa `Alayhim Ghađabun Wa Lahum `Adhābun Shadīdun    042-016* The ones who argue about God after He has responded to them will have their arguments refuted by their Lord. On them anger will fall and they will have severe torment. ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍ ‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍
Al-Lahu Al-Ladhī 'Anzala Al-Kitāba Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Al-Mīzāna ۗ Wa Mā Yudrīka La`alla As-Sā`ata Qarībun    042-017* It is God who revealed the Book with the truth, and the Balance. And what will make you realize that perhaps the Hour is near? ‌‌‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‌ ۗ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Yasta`jilu Bihā Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bihā Wa ۖ Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Mushfiqūna Minhā Wa Ya`lamūna 'Annahā Al-Ĥaqqu ۗ 'Alā 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Yumārūna Fī As-Sā`ati Lafī Đalālin Ba`īdin    042-018* Those who do not believe in it seek to hasten it; but those who believe are apprehensive of it, and they know it to be the truth. Absolutely, those who question the Hour are in distant error. ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍ۖ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍ۗ ‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍
Al-Lahu Laţīfun Bi`ibādihi Yarzuqu Man Yashā'u ۖ Wa Huwa Al-Qawīyu Al-`Azīzu    042-019* God is kind towards His worshipers. He provides for whomever He wills. He is the Powerful, the Honorable (III) ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‌‌ ۖ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Man Kāna Yurīdu Ĥartha Al-'Ākhirati Nazid Lahu Fī Ĥarthihi ۖ Wa Man Kāna Yurīdu Ĥartha Ad-Dunyā Nu'utihi Minhā Wa Mā Lahu Fī Al-'Ākhirati Min Naşībin    042-020* For anyone who has been wanting a harvest in the Hereafter, we will increase his harvest; and We shall give some of it to anyone who has been wanting a worldly harvest, while he will not have any share in the Hereafter. ‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۖ ‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
'Am Lahum Shurakā'u Shara`ū Lahum Mina Ad-Dīni Mā Lam Ya'dhan Bihi Al-Lahu ۚ Wa Lawlā Kalimatu Al-Faşli Laquđiya Baynahum ۗ Wa 'Inna Až-Žālimīna Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun    042-021* Or do they have associates who legislate for them about religion in matters which God would not sanction? If it were not for a decisive statement, things would have been decided among them. Wrongdoers will have painful torment! ‍‍‌‌ ‍‌ ‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ۚ ‌‌ ‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ۗ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌
Tará Až-Žālimīna Mushfiqīna Mimmā Kasabū Wa Huwa Wāqi`un Bihim Wa ۗ Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Fī Raāti Al-Jannāti ۖ Lahum Mā Yashā'ūna `Inda Rabbihim ۚ Dhālika Huwa Al-Fađlu Al-Kabīru    042-022* You will see wrongdoers apprehensive about what they have earned even while it is bound to happen to them. The ones who believe and perform honorable deeds will be in parks inside the Gardens; they will have anything they wish from their Lord. That will be the great boon. ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‌ۗ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ۖ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍ ۚ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Dhālika Al-Ladhī Yubashshiru Al-Lahu `Ibādahu Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti ۗ Qul Lā 'As'alukum `Alayhi 'Ajan 'Illā Al-Mawaddata Fī Al-Qurbá ۗ Wa Man Yaqtarif Ĥasanatan Nazid Lahu Fīhā Ĥusnāan ۚ 'Inna Al-Laha Ghafūrun Shakūrun    042-023* That is what God proclaims to those servants of His who believe and perform honorable deeds.
God's Omniscience SAY: "I do not ask you any payment for it except affection towards your relatives." We shall add to its fineness for anyone who acquires a fine deed. God is Forgiving, Appreciative.
‍‍‌ ‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ۗ ‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‌‍‍‌‌‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‌ ۗ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ۚ ‍‍‍‍‌‌‌ ‍‍‍‌‌
'Am Yaqūlūna Aftará `Alá Al-Lahi Kadhibāan ۖ Fa'in Yasha'i Al-Lahu Yakhtim `Alá Qalbika ۗ Wa Yamĥu Al-Lahu Al-Bāţila Wa Yuĥiqqu Al-Ĥaqqa Bikalimātihi ۚ 'Innahu `Alīmun Bidhāti Aş-Şudūri    042-024* Or do they say: "He made up a lie about God?" If God wished, He might seal off you heart: God blots out falsehood and verifies the Truth through His own words. He is Aware of anything that is on your minds. ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ۖ ‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ۗ‍ ‌‍‍‍‍‍ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌
Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Yaqbalu At-Tawbat `An `Ibādihi Wa Ya`fū `Ani As-Sayyi'āti Wa Ya`lamu Mā Taf`alūna    042-025* He is the One Who accepts repentance from His servants and overlooks [their] evil deeds ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍
Wa Yastajību Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Wa Yazīduhum Min Fađlihi Wa ۚ Al-Kāfirūna Lahum `Adhābun Shadīdun    042-026* and adds even more for them out of His bounty, while disbelievers will have severe torment. ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍ ‍‌‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۚ‍‍‌ ‍‍‌‍‍‍
Wa Law Basaţa Al-Lahu Ar-Rizqa Li`ibādihi Labaghaw Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Lakin Yunazzilu Biqadarin Mā Yashā'u ۚ 'Innahu Bi`ibādihi Khabīrun Başīrun    042-027* If God were to expand sustenance for His servants, they would act outrageously on earth; but He sends down anything He wishes in [due] measure. He is informed, Observant concerning His worshippers. ‌ ‍ ‍‌‍ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‌‍ ‌‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Yunazzilu Al-Ghaytha Min Ba`di Mā Qanaţū Wa Yanshuru Raĥmatahu ۚ Wa Huwa Al-Walīyu Al-Ĥamīdu    042-028* He is the one Who sends down showers after they have lost hope, and scatters His mercy aboard. He is the Praiseworthy Patron! ‍‍‍ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‌‍‍‍‌ ‌‍ ۚ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Min 'Āyātihi Khalqu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baththa Fīhimā Min Dābbatin ۚ Wa Huwa `Alá Jam`ihim 'Idhā Yashā'u Qadīrun    042-029* Among His signs is the creation of Heaven and Earth, as well as any animals He has propagated in either of them. He is capable of gathering them whenever He wishes. (IV) ‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍ ‍‌‍‍‌‌‍ ‌‌ ‌ ‍‌‍‍‌ۚ ‌‌ ‌ ‌‌‌‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Mā 'Aşābakum Min Muşībatin Fabimā Kasabat 'Aydīkum Wa Ya`fū `An Kathīrin    042-030* Any disaster that happens to you will [occur] because of what your own hands have earned. Yet He overlooks a great deal. ‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍
Wa Mā 'Antum Bimu`jizīna Fī Al-'Arđi ۖ Wa Mā Lakum Min Dūni Al-Lahi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Naşīrin    042-031* You (all) will not frustrate anything on earth nor do you have any patron nor supporter besides God. ‍‌ ‌‌‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‌‍ ۖ ‌‌ ‍ ‍‌‍‍‌ ‍ ‍‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Min 'Āyātihi Al-Jawāri Fī Al-Baĥri Kāl'a`lāmi    042-032* Among His signs are the vessels that loom up at sea like landmarks. ‍‍‌‍‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‍
'In Yasha' Yuskini Ar-Rīĥa Fayažlalna Rawākida `Alá Žahrihi ۚ 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyātin Likulli Şabbārin Shakūrin    042-033* If He so wished, He would lie becalmed on its surface. In that are signs for every disciplined, grateful person. ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‌‌‌ ‌ ‍‍ ۚ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌ ‍‍‍‌‌
'Aw Yūbiqhunna Bimā Kasabū Wa Ya`fu `An Kathīrin    042-034* Or He would wipe them out because of what they have earned, even though He overlooks a great deal. ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍
Wa Ya`lama Al-Ladhīna Yujādilūna Fī 'Āyātinā Mā Lahum Min Maĥīşin    042-035* Yet those who argue about Our signs realize they have no escape.

Famā 'Ūtītum Min Shay'in Famatā`u Al-Ĥayāati Ad-Dunۖ Wa Mā `Inda Al-Lahi Khayrun Wa 'Abqá Lilladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Alá Rabbihim Yatawakkalūna    042-036* Anything you are given is for enjoyment during worldly life; while what God possess is better and more enduring for those who believe and rely on their Lord, ‍‌ ‍‍‌‍ ‍‌‌ ‍‍‍ ‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۖ ‌‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yajtanibūna Kabā'ira Al-'Ithmi Wa Al-Fawāĥisha Wa 'Idhā Mā Ghađibū Hum Yaghfirūna    042-037* who refrain from the greatest misdeeds and sexual offences, and forgive whenever they become angry, ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‌‌‌‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Al-Ladhīna Astajābū Lirabbihim Wa 'Aqāmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Amruhum Shūrá Baynahum Wa Mimmā Razaqnāhum Yunfiqūna    042-038* and who respond to their Lord and keep up prayer; and whose business is [conducted] through mutual consultation among themselves, and spend some of what We have provided them with, ‍‍‍‌ ‍ ‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Wa Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā 'Aşābahumu Al-Baghyu Hum Yantaşirūna    042-039* and who protect themselves whenever any outrage happens to them. ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Jazā'u Sayyi'atin Sayyi'atun Mithluhā ۖ Faman `Afā Wa 'Aşlaĥa Fa'ajruhu `Alá Al-Lahi ۚ 'Innahu Lā Yuĥibbu Až-Žālimīna    042-040* The reward for an injury should be an injury proportionate to it.
Handling Oppression and Injury Yet anyone who overlooks things and becomes reconciled shall receive his payment from God; He does not love wrongdoers!
‍‍‌‌‌ ‌‌ ‌ ۖ ‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍
Wa Lamani Antaşara Ba`da Žulmihi Fa'ūlā'ika Mā `Alayhim Min Sabīlin    042-041* Those who defend themselves after being wronged will have no way open against them; ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‌‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍
'Innamā As-Sabīlu `Alá Al-Ladhīna Yažlimūna An-Nāsa Wa Yabghūna Fī Al-'Arđi Bighayri Al-Ĥaqqi ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Lahum `Adhābun 'Alīmun    042-042* a way [to blame them] is open only against those who mistreat [other] people and behave outrageously on earth without having any right to do so. Those will have painful torment. ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍ۚ‍‍‌‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Laman Şabara Wa Ghafara 'Inna Dhālika Lamin `Azmi Al-'Umūri    042-043* Yet anyone who acts patiently and forgives, [shows] perseverance in [handling] matters. (V) ‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Man Yuđlili Al-Lahu Famā Lahu Min Wa Līyin Min Ba`dihi ۗ Wa Tará Až-Žālimīna Lammā Ra'aw Al-`Adhāba Yaqūlūna Hal 'Ilá Maraddin Min Sabīlin    042-044* Anyone whom God lets go astray will have no patron beyond Him; you will see wrongdoers saying, once they have seen the torment: "Is there any way to turn back?" ‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‌ ‍ ‍‍‌ ۗ ‌‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‌‌‌‌ ‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‍‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Tahum Yu`rađūna `Alayhā Khāshi`īna Mina Adh-Dhulli Yanžurūna Min Ţarfin Khafīyin ۗ Wa Qāla Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Inna Al-Khāsirīna Al-Ladhīna Khasirū 'Anfusahum Wa 'Ahlīhim Yawma Al-Qiyāmati ۗ 'Alā 'Inna Až-Žālimīna Fī `Adhābin Muqīmin    042-045* You will see them solemnly trying to avoid it because of the disgrace they feel as they steal furtive glances at it. The ones who believe will say "The losers are the ones who have lost their own souls plus their families' on Resurrection Day. Will wrongdoers not [live] in lasting torment? ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‌ ۗ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‌‍ ‌‌ ‍‍ۗ ‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Mā Kāna Lahum Min 'Awliyā'a Yanşurūnahum Min Dūni Al-Lahi ۗ Wa Man Yuđlili Al-Lahu Famā Lahu Min Sabīlin    042-046* They did not have any patrons to support them besides God. Anyone whom God lets go astray will have no [other] way [to go]." ‌ ‍‍‍ ‌‌‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍ ‍‌‍‍‌ ۗ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‌
Astajībū Lirabbikum Min Qabli 'An Ya'tiya Yawmun Lā Maradda Lahu Mina Al-Lahi ۚ Mā Lakum Min Malja'iin Yawma'idhin Wa Mā Lakum Min Nakīrin    042-047* Respond to your Lord before a day comes along that will not be fended off; you will not find any refuge from God on that day nor will you have [any chance] to reject it. ‌ ‍ ‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‍‌‌ ۚ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌
Fa'in 'A`rađū Famā 'Arsalnāka `Alayhim Ĥafīžāan ۖ 'In `Alayka 'Illā Al-Balāghu ۗ Wa 'Innā 'Idhā 'Adhaq Al-'Insāna Minnā Raĥmatan Fariĥa Bihā ۖ Wa 'In Tuşibhum Sayyi'atun Bimā Qaddamat 'Aydīhim Fa'inna Al-'Insāna Kafūrun    042-048* If they should still evade it, We did not send you as any guardian over them; you have only to state things plainly. Whenever We let man taste some mercy from Ourself, he acts overjoyed by it, while the moment some evil deed strikes them because of something their own hands have prepared, man [acts so] thankless. ‌‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ۖ ‌ ‌‌ ۗ ‌‌‍‍‌ ‌‌‌‌ ‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍ ‌ ‍ۖ ‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌ ‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌
Lillahi Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi ۚ Yakhluqu Mā Yashā'u ۚ Yahabu Liman Yashā'u 'Ināthāan Wa Yahabu Liman Yashā'u Adh-Dhukūra    042-049* God holds control over Heaven and Earth; He creates anything He wishes. He bestows a daughter on anyone He wishes and bestows a son on anyone He wishes; ‍‌‍‍‌‌‍ ۚ‍‍‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ۚ‍‍‌‌ ‌‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‌‍
'Aw Yuzawwijuhum Dhuknāan Wa 'Ināthāan ۖ Wa Yaj`alu Man Yashā'u `Aqīmāan ۚ 'Innahu `Alīmun Qadīrun    042-050* or marries them off, both male and female, and makes anyone He wishes barren. He is Aware, Capable.
Divine Inspiration
‌‌ ‌ ‌‍‌‌‌ ‌‌‌ۖ ‌‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‌ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Mā Kāna Libasharin 'An Yukallimahu Al-Lahu 'Illā Waĥyāan 'Aw Min Warā'i Ĥijābin 'Aw Yursila Rasūlāan Fayūĥiya Bi'idhnihi Mā Yashā'u ۚ 'Innahu `Alīyun Ĥakīmun    042-051* It is not [fitting] for God to speak to any human being except through inspiration or from behind a curtain, or by sending a messenger anything He wishes to inspire [mankind] with, through His permission. He is Sublime, Wise. ‌ ‍‍‍ ‌ ‌ ‍ ‌‌ ‌‌‌ ‌‌‌ ‍ ‌‌‍‍‌‌‌ ‍‍‍ ‌‌‌ ‌‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ۚ‍‍ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‌
Wa Kadhalika 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayka Rūĥāan Min 'Amrinā ۚ Mā Kunta Tadrī Mā Al-Kitābu Wa Lā Al-'Īmānu Wa Lakin Ja`alnāhu Nūan Nahdī Bihi Man Nashā'u Min `Ibādinā ۚ Wa 'Innaka Latahdī 'Ilá Şiţin Mustaqīmin    042-052* Thus We have revealed a spirit from Our bidding for you. You did not know what either the Book or Faith were, but We have set it up as a Light by means of which We guide any of Our servants whom We wish. You are guiding [men] toward a Straight Road, ‌‌‍‌ ‌ ‌‌‌‌ ‌‍ۚ ‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‍‍ ‌‍‌‍‍ ‌ ‌‌‌ ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‌‌ ۚ ‌‌‍‍ ‌‌ ‍‍‌‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌
Şirāţi Al-Lahi Al-Ladhī Lahu Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi ۗ 'Alā 'Ilá Al-Lahi Taşīru Al-'Umūru    042-053* the Road to God, Who owns whatever is in Heaven and whatever is on Earth. Matters (all) end up with God! ‍‍‌ ‌ ‌ ‍‌‍‍‌ ‌‌ ‌‍ ۗ ‌‌ ‌‌ ‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‌‌
