| THIS CHAPTER was revealed after Believers 23 and before The Mount 52. The act of kneeling in worship or prostration is mentioned in II, 15:III, and 41:V. However I do not care for the term 'prostration' that has often been given as a translation for the title since it has neurotic overtones in contemporary English, Islamic worship requires more reverence. This is the last chapter initialed with the letters A.L.M. (these have already appeared in Chapters 2, 3, 29, 30, & 31). It consists of 30 Meccan verses arranged in three sections, except for vv. 16-20 in section II which date from Madina. Creation and man are the initial themes heard in section I. | Tanzīlu Al-Kitābi Lā Rayba Fīhi Min Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna | 032-002* The revelation of the Book which contains no doubt [has been accomplished] through the Lord of the Universe. | تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيه ِِ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
| 'Am Yaqūlūna Aftarāhu ۚ Bal Huwa Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbika Litundhira Qawmāan Mā 'Atāhum Min Nadhīrin Min Qablika La`allahum Yahtadūna | 032-003* Or do they say: "He has invented it!"? Rather, it is the Truth from your Lord so you may warn a folk to whom no warner has come before you, so that they may be guided. Creation | أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاه ُ ۚ بَلْ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لِتُنذِرَ قَوْما ً مَا أَتَاهُمْ مِنْ نَذِيرٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ |
| Al-Lahu Al-Ladhī Khalaqa As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Fī Sittati 'Ayyāmin Thumma Astawá `Alá Al-`Arshi ۖ Mā Lakum Min Dūnihi Min Wa Līyin Wa Lā Shafī`in ۚ 'Afalā Tatadhakkarūna | 032-004* God is the One Who created Heaven and Earth as well as whatever lies in between them, in six days. Then He mounted on the Throne. You (all) have no patron nor any intercessor besides Him. Will you not bear this in mind? | اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِي سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى عَلَى الْعَرْشِ ۖ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِه ِِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ شَفِيعٍ ۚ أَفَلاَ تَتَذَكَّرُونَ |
| Yudabbiru Al-'Amra Mina As-Samā'i 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Thumma Ya`ruju 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu 'Alfa Sanatin Mimmā Ta`uddūna | 032-005* He organizes the matter from Heaven [down] to Earth; then it will soar back up to Him on a day whose measure is a thousand years according to the way you count. | يُدَبِّرُ الأَمْرَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْم ٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ~ُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ |
| Dhālika `Ālimu Al-Ghaybi Wa Ash-Shahādati Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu | 032-006* Such is the Knower of the Unseen and the Visible, the Powerful, the Merciful | ذَلِكَ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ |
| Al-Ladhī 'Aĥsana Kulla Shay'in Khalaqahu ۖ Wa Bada'a Khalqa Al-'Insāni Min Ţīnin | 032-007* Who makes everything He creates so fine! Man He started out by creating man from clay; | الَّذِي أَحْسَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَه ُ ۖ وَبَدَأَ خَلْقَ الإِنسَانِ مِنْ طِينٍ |
| Thumma Ja`ala Naslahu Min Sulālatin Min Mā'in Mahīnin | 032-008* then He made his progeny from an extract of discarded liquid; | ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسْلَه ُ مِنْ سُلاَلَةٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَهِين ٍ |
| Thumma Sawwāhu Wa Nafakha Fīhi Min Rūĥihi ۖ Wa Ja`ala Lakumu As-Sam`a Wa Al-'Abşāra Wa Al-'Af'idata ۚ Qalīlāan Mā Tashkurūna | 032-009* next He completed him and breathed some of His own spirit into him. He has granted you hearing, eyesight and vital organs. Yet small thanks do you give for it! | ثُمَّ سَوَّاه ُ وَنَفَخَ فِيه ِِ مِنْ رُوحِه ِِ ۖ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالأَبْصَارَ وَالأَفْئِدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلا ً مَا تَشْكُرُونَ |
| Wa Qālū 'A'idhā Đalalnā Fī Al-'Arđi 'A'innā Lafī Khalqin Jadīdin ۚ Bal Hum Biliqā'i Rabbihim Kāfirūna | 032-010* They say: "When we have sunk deep into the earth shall we [take part] in some fresh creation?" Indeed they disbelieve about meeting their Lord! | وَقَالُوا أَئِذَا ضَلَلْنَا فِي الأَرْضِ أَئِنَّا لَفِي خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ كَافِرُونَ |
| Qul Yatawaffākum Malaku Al-Mawti Al-Ladhī Wukkila Bikum Thumma 'Ilá Rabbikum Turja`ūna | 032-011* SAY: "The Angel of Death who has been given charge of you will gather you in. Then you will (all) be returned to your Lord. (II) | قُلْ يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ مَلَكُ الْمَوْتِ الَّذِي وُكِّلَ بِكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَى رَبِّكُمْ تُرْجَعُونَ |
| Wa Law Tará 'Idhi Al-Mujrimūna Nākisū Ru'ūsihim `Inda Rabbihim Rabbanā 'Abşarnā Wa Sami`nā Fārji`nā Na`mal Şāliĥāan 'Innā Mūqinūna | 032-012* If you only could see how criminals will hang their heads before their Lord: 'Our Lord, we have observed and heard; so send us back! We will act honorably; we are convinced!" | وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذِ الْمُجْرِمُونَ نَاكِسُوا رُءُوسِهِمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ رَبَّنَا أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَارْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَالِحا ً إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ |
| Wa Law Shi'nā La'ātaynā Kulla Nafsin Hudāhā Wa Lakin Ĥaqqa Al-Qawlu Minnī La'amla'anna Jahannama Mina Al-Jinnati Wa An-Nāsi 'Ajma`īna | 032-013* If We had so wished, We might have given each soul its own guidance, but the Sentence [passed] by Me has been confirmed: "I shall fill Hell with sprites and men all together! | وَلَوْ شِئْنَا لَآتَيْنَا كُلَّ نَفْسٍ هُدَاهَا وَلَكِنْ حَقَّ الْقَوْلُ مِنِّي لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ |
| Fadhūqū Bimā Nasītum Liqā'a Yawmikum Hādhā 'Innā Nasīnākum ۖ Wa Dhūqū `Adhāba Al-Khuldi Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna | 032-014* So have a taste, since you have forgotten about meeting on this day of yours! We have likewise forgotten you. Taste the torment of eternity because of what you have been doing." BOW DOWN HERE | فَذُوقُوا بِمَا نَسِيتُمْ لِقَاءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَذَا إِنَّا نَسِينَاكُمْ ۖ وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْخُلْدِ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ |
| 'Innamā Yu'uminu Bi'āyātinā Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā Dhukkirū Bihā Kharrū Sujjadāan Wa Sabbaĥū Biĥamdi Rabbihim Wa Hum Lā Yastakbirūna | 032-015* The only ones who believe in Our signs are those who drop down kneeling [in worship] whenever they are reminded of them, and hymn their Lord's praise. They do not act so proudly. | إِنَّمَا يُؤْمِنُ بِآيَاتِنَا الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِّرُوا بِهَا خَرُّوا سُجَّدا ً وَسَبَّحُوا بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُمْ لاَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ |
| Tatajāfá Junūbuhum `Ani Al-Mađāji`i Yad`ūna Rabbahum Khawfāan Wa Ţama`āan Wa Mimmā Razaqnāhum Yunfiqūna | 032-016* They slip quietly away from their beds to appeal to their Lord in fear and anticipation, and spend [charitably] whatever We have provided them with. | تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُمْ خَوْفا ً وَطَمَعا ً وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ |
| Falā Ta`lamu Nafsun Mā 'Ukhfiya Lahum Min Qurrati 'A`yunin Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna | 032-017* No soul knows what comfort is hidden from their eyes as a reward for what they have been doing. | فَلاَ تَعْلَمُ نَفْسٌ مَا أُخْفِيَ لَهُمْ مِنْ قُرَّةِ أَعْيُن ٍ جَزَاء ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
| 'Afaman Kāna Mu'umināan Kaman Kāna Fāsiqāan ۚ Lā Yastawūna | 032-018* Is someone who is a believer like someone who has been acting immorally"? They are not on the same footing! | أَفَمَنْ كَانَ مُؤْمِنا ً كَمَنْ كَانَ فَاسِقا ً ۚ لاَ يَسْتَوُونَ |
| 'Ammā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Falahum Jannātu Al-Ma'wá Nuzulāan Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna | 032-019* Those who believe and perform honorable deeds will have gardens with living quarters to relax in because of what they have been doing. | أَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَلَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْمَأْوَى نُزُلا ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
| Wa 'Ammā Al-Ladhīna Fasaqū Fama'wāhumu An-Nāru ۖ Kullamā 'Arādū 'An Yakhrujū Minhā 'U`īdū Fīhā Wa Qīla Lahum Dhūqū `Adhāba An-Nāri Al-Ladhī Kuntum Bihi Tukadhdhibūna | 032-020* Those who have been immoral will have the Fire as their lodging; every time they may want to leave it, they will be returned to it. They will be told: "Taste the torment of the Fire which you have been denying!" | وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فَسَقُوا فَمَأْوَاهُمُ النَّارُ ۖ كُلَّمَا أَرَادُوا أَنْ يَخْرُجُوا مِنْهَا أُعِيدُوا فِيهَا وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ ذُوقُوا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِه ِِ تُكَذِّبُونَ |
| Wa Lanudhīqannahum Mina Al-`Adhābi Al-'Adná Dūna Al-`Adhābi Al-'Akbari La`allahum Yarji`ūna | 032-021* Still We shall let them taste worldly torment rather than supreme torment, so they may yet turn back. | وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمْ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الأَدْنَى دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ |
| Wa Man 'Ažlamu Mimman Dhukkira Bi'āyāti Rabbihi Thumma 'A`rađa `Anhā ۚ 'Innā Mina Al-Mujrimīna Muntaqimūna | 032-022* Who is more in the wrong than someone who has been reminded of his Lord's signs, then shuns them? We shall be Avenged on criminals! (III) | وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنْ ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّه ِِ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا ۚ إِنَّا مِنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ |
| Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā Mūsá Al-Kitāba Falā Takun Fī Miryatin Min Liqā'ihi ۖ Wa Ja`alnāhu Hudáan Libanī 'Isrā'īla | 032-023* We gave Moses the Book, so do not be in any doubt about meeting it. We granted it to the Children of Israel for guidance. | وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ فَلاَ تَكُنْ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِنْ لِقَائِه ِِ ۖ وَجَعَلْنَاه ُ هُدى ً لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ |
| Wa Ja`alnā Minhum 'A'immatan Yahdūna Bi'amrinā Lammā Şabarū ۖ Wa Kānū Bi'āyātinā Yūqinūna | 032-024* We even set some of them up as leaders to guide [people] at Our command, once they were patient and convinced about Our signs. | وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ أَئِمَّة ً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُوا ۖ وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ |
| 'Inna Rabbaka Huwa Yafşilu Baynahum Yawma Al-Qiyāmati Fīmā Kānū Fīhi Yakhtalifūna | 032-025* Your Lord will sort them out on Resurrection Day concerning whatever they have been differing over. | إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيه ِِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ |
| 'Awalam Yahdi Lahum Kam 'Ahlaknā Min Qablihim Mina Al-Qurūni Yamshūna Fī Masākinihim ۚ 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyātin ۖ 'Afalā Yasma`ūna | 032-026* Does it not guide them [when they notice] how many generations We have wiped out before them whose dwellings they now walk around in? That contains signs, so will they not listen? | أَوَلَمْ يَهْدِ لَهُمْ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ يَمْشُونَ فِي مَسَاكِنِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ ۖ أَفَلاَ يَسْمَعُونَ |
| 'Awalam Yaraw 'Annā Nasūqu Al-Mā'a 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Al-Juruzi Fanukhriju Bihi Zar`āan Ta'kulu Minhu 'An`āmuhum Wa 'Anfusuhum ۖ 'Afalā Yubşirūna | 032-027* Have they not seen how We drive along water for the parched earth and bring forth crops with it so your livestock and they themselves may eat by means of it? Will they not observe? | أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا نَسُوقُ الْمَاءَ إِلَى الأَرْضِ الْجُرُزِ فَنُخْرِجُ بِه ِِ زَرْعا ً تَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ أَنْعَامُهُمْ وَأَنفُسُهُمْ ۖ أَفَلاَ يُبْصِرُونَ |
| Wa Yaqūlūna Matá Hādhā Al-Fatĥu 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna | 032-028* They say: "When will this victory be if you are so truthful?" | وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هَذَا الْفَتْحُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
| Qul Yawma Al-Fatĥi Lā Yanfa`u Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'Īmānuhum Wa Lā Hum Yunžarūna | 032-029* SAY: "On the day of victory their [profession of] faith will not benefit those who have disbelieved, nor will they be allowed to wait. | قُلْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ لاَ يَنفَعُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِيمَانُهُمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يُنْظَرُونَ |
| Fa'a`riđ `Anhum Wa Antažir 'Innahum Muntažirūna | 032-030* Shun them and wait; they will be waiting too!" | فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَانْتَظِرْ إِنَّهُمْ مُنتَظِرُونَ |
