| Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa | 096.001 Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, | اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ |
| Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin | 096.002 Createth man from a clot. | خَلَقَ الإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَق ٍ |
| Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu | 096.003 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, | اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ |
| Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami | 096.004 Who teacheth by the pen, | الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ |
| `Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam | 096.005 Teacheth man that which he knew not. | عَلَّمَ الإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ |
| Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá | 096.006 Nay, but verily man is rebellious | كَلاَّ إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَى |
| 'An Ra'āhu Astaghná | 096.007 That he thinketh himself independent! | أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى |
| 'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á | 096.008 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. | إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى |
| 'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá | 096.009 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth | أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى |
| `Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá | 096.010 A slave when he prayeth ? | عَبْدا ً إِذَا صَلَّى |
| 'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá | 096.011 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى |
| 'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá | 096.012 Or enjoineth piety ? | أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى |
| 'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá | 096.013 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward ? | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى |
| 'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Allāha Yará | 096.014 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth ? | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى |
| Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi | 096.015 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - | كَلاَّ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَه ِِ لَنَسْفَعَا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ |
| Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin | 096.016 The lying, sinful forelock - | نَاصِيَة ٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَة ٍ |
| Falyad`u Nādiyah | 096.017 Then let him call upon his henchmen! | فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَه |
| Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha | 096.018 We will call the guards of hell. | سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ |
| Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib | 096.019 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). | كَلاَّ لاَ تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ |
