'Idhā Ash-Shamsu Kūwirat  | 081.001 When the sun is overthrown, | إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā An-Nujūmu Ankadarat  | 081.002 And when the stars fall, | وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انكَدَرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jibālu Suyyirat  | 081.003 And when the hills are moved, | وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-`Ishāru `Uţţilat  | 081.004 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, | وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Wuĥūshu Ĥushirat  | 081.005 And when the wild beasts are herded together, | وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Biĥāru Sujjirat  | 081.006 And when the seas rise, | وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā An-Nufūsu Zūwijat  | 081.007 And when souls are reunited, | وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Maw'ūdatu Su'ilat  | 081.008 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked | وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ |
Bi'ayyi Dhanbin Qutilat  | 081.009 For what sin she was slain, | بِأَيِّ ذَنْب ٍ قُتِلَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Aş-Şuĥufu Nushirat  | 081.010 And when the pages are laid open, | وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā As-Samā'u Kushiţat  | 081.011 And when the sky is torn away, | وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jaĥīmu Su``irat  | 081.012 And when hell is lighted, | وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jannatu 'Uzlifat  | 081.013 And when the Garden is brought nigh, | وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ |
`Alimat Nafsun Mā 'Aĥđarat  | 081.014 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready. | عَلِمَتْ نَفْس ٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Bil-Khunnasi  | 081.015 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ |
Al-Jawāri Al-Kunnasi  | 081.016 The stars which rise and set, | الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ |
Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā `As`asa  | 081.017 And the close of night, | وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ |
Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā Tanaffasa  | 081.018 And the breath of morning | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ |
'Innahu Laqawlu Rasūlin Karīmin  | 081.019 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger, | إِنَّه ُُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُول ٍ كَرِيم ٍ |
Dhī Qūwatin `Inda Dhī Al-`Arshi Makīnin  | 081.020 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, | ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِين ٍ |
Muţā`in Thamma 'Amīnin  | 081.021 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; | مُطَاع ٍ ثَمَّ أَمِين ٍ |
Wa Mā Şāĥibukum Bimajnūnin  | 081.022 And your comrade is not mad. | وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُون ٍ |
Wa Laqad Ra'āhu Bil-'Ufuqi Al-Mubīni  | 081.023 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon. | وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ |
Wa Mā Huwa `Alá Al-Ghaybi Biđanīnin  | 081.024 And he is not avid of the Unseen. | وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِين ٍ |
Wa Mā Huwa Biqawli Shayţānin Rajīmin  | 081.025 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. | وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَان ٍ رَجِيم ٍ |
Fa'ayna Tadh/habūna  | 081.026 Whither then go ye ? | فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ |
'In Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna  | 081.027 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, | إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْر ٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ |
Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yastaqīma  | 081.028 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. | لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَسْتَقِيمَ |
Wa Mā Tashā'ūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Al-Lahu Rabbu Al-`Ālamīna  | 081.029 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. | وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
