Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi | َ090-001 Nay, (it will never happen as the disbelievers desire.) I do swear by this city (of Makkah), | لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi | َ090-002 When you will surely alight (as a conqueror) in this city. | وَأَنْتَ حِلّ ٌ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ |
Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada | َ090-003 And (I cite as witness your) father (- Abraham) and (his exalted) son (- Ismâîl). | وَوَالِد ٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ |
Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin | َ090-004 We have certainly created a human being (to face obstacles and) to struggle hard (to achieve a marvelous goal). | لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَد ٍ |
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun | َ090-005 Does he think that no one will have power (to use) against him? | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَد ٌ |
Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan | َ090-006 He will say, `I have wasted enormous wealth.´ | يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالا ً لُبَدا ً |
'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun | َ090-007 But does he think that no one sees him? | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ~ُ أَحَد ٌ |
'Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni | َ090-008 Have We not given him two eyes (to distinguish right from wrong); | أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَه ُُ عَيْنَيْنِ |
Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni | َ090-009 And a tongue and two lips (so that he can ask if he cannot see for himself), | وَلِسَانا ً وَشَفَتَيْنِ |
Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni | َ090-010 And We have pointed out to him the two conspicuous high ways (of right and wrong)? | وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ |
Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha | َ090-011 Yet he would not attempt the uphill path of steep and difficult ascent. | فَلاَ اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ |
Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu | َ090-012 And what should make you know what the uphill path of steep and difficult ascent is? | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ |
Fakku Raqabahin | َ090-013 (It is) the freeing of a captive (from the bondage of slavery, debt and other afflictions), | فَكُّ رَقَبَة ٍ |
'Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin | َ090-014 Or feeding in the time of famine | أَوْ إِطْعَام ٌ فِي يَوْم ٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَة ٍ |
Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin | َ090-015 An orphan, near of kin, | يَتِيما ً ذَا مَقْرَبَة ٍ |
'Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin | َ090-016 Or a downtrodden poor man. | أَوْ مِسْكِينا ً ذَا مَتْرَبَة ٍ |
Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşaw Bil-Marĥamahi | َ090-017 And what is even more, then he is of those who believe and exhort one another to be patiently persevering and exhort one another to be compassionate (towards God´s creation). | ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ |
'Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi | َ090-018 These (who follow this hard path) are the blessed ones (- the people of the right hand). | أُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi | َ090-019 But those who denied Our Messages are the wretched ones (- the people of the left hand). | وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
`Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun | َ090-020 There shall envelop them the Fire closed over (- a Fire the heat of which is not allowed to escape and they themselves cannot get out of it). | عَلَيْهِمْ نَار ٌ مُؤصَدَة ٌ |
