`Abasa Wa Tawallá | َ080-001 He (- the Prophet) frowned and turned aside, | عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّى |
'An Jā'ahu Al-'A`má | َ080-002 Because the blind man (- Ibn umme Maktûm) came to him (interrupting him unknowingly). | أَنْ جَاءَهُ الأَعْمَى |
Wa Mā Yudrīka La`allahu Yazzakká | َ080-003 And what could make you (O Prophet!) know that he might purify himself. | وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّه ُُ يَزَّكَّى |
'Aw Yadhdhakkaru Fatanfa`ahu Adh-Dhikrá | َ080-004 Or that he might have paid heed to the admonition (that God has revealed to you) and this admonition would have done him good as well. | أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى |
'Ammā Mani Astaghná | َ080-005 But as to him who considers himself self-sufficient and is indifferent (to the Truth); | أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَى |
Fa'anta Lahu Taşaddá | َ080-006 To this one you were very attentive, | فَأَنْتَ لَه ُُ تَصَدَّى |
Wa Mā `Alayka 'Allā Yazzakká | َ080-007 Though you are not to blame if he does not purify himself. | وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلاَّ يَزَّكَّى |
Wa 'Ammā Man Jā'aka Yas`á | َ080-008 Whereas (the blind man) who came to you striving in right earnest (to learn the Qur´ân), | وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَى |
Wa Huwa Yakhshá | َ080-009 And all the while he stands in awe (of God); | وَهُوَ يَخْشَى |
Fa'anta `Anhu Talahhá | َ080-010 But you neglect him and pay him no regard. | فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّى |
Kallā 'Innahā Tadhkirahun | َ080-011 This should not have been so. Verily, this (Qur´ân) is a means to rise to eminence (for you all). | كَلاَّ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَة ٌ |
Faman Shā'a Dhakarahu | َ080-012 So let him who desires, pay heed to it and rise to eminence. | فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ |
Fī Şuĥufin Mukarramahin | َ080-013 (This Qur´ân is preserved) in such written leaves (of the Book) as are greatly honoured, | فِي صُحُف ٍ مُكَرَّمَة ٍ |
Marfū`atin Muţahharahin | َ080-014 (Which are) ranked high (and) are rid of all impurities, | مَرْفُوعَة ٍ مُطَهَّرَة ٍ |
Bi'aydī Safarahin | َ080-015 Which are in the hands of scribes, | بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَة ٍ |
Kirāmin Bararahin | َ080-016 Noble and virtuous. | كِرَام ٍ بَرَرَة ٍ |
Qutila Al-'Insānu Mā 'Akfarahu | َ080-017 Ruin seize the person (- one too proud to accept the reminder)! How ungrateful he is! | قُتِلَ الإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ |
Min 'Ayyi Shay'in Khalaqahu | َ080-018 (Let him consider) from what (insignificant) material He has created him! | مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ |
Min Nuţfatin Khalaqahu Faqaddarahu | َ080-019 From a mere sperm-drop! He (at first) creates him, then endows him with infinite capacity (to make progress), | مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَه ُُ فَقَدَّرَهُ |
Thumma As-Sabīla Yassarahu | َ080-020 Then makes (his) passage (through all affair of life) easy for him. | ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ |
Thumma 'Amātahu Fa'aqbarahu | َ080-021 Then He calls him to death and He assigns to him (an interim state of) a grave. | ثُمَّ أَمَاتَه ُُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ |
Thumma 'Idhā Shā'a 'Ansharahu | َ080-022 And He will again raise him to life when He will. | ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ |
Kallā Lammā Yaqđi Mā 'Amarahu | َ080-023 It cannot be (that there is no resurrection;) he has not yet carried out what He commanded him to do. | كَلاَّ لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ |
Falyanžuri Al-'Insānu 'Ilá Ţa`āmihi | َ080-024 Therefore let such a person look at his food. | فَلْيَنْظُرِ الإِنسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ |
'Annā Şababnā Al-Mā'a Şabbāan | َ080-025 How (at first) We pour down water in abundance, | أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبّا ً |
Thumma Shaqaqnā Al-'Arđa Shaqqāan | َ080-026 Then We cleave the earth, a proper cleaving, | ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الأَرْضَ شَقّا ً |
Fa'anbatnā Fīhā Ĥabbāan | َ080-027 So that We cause grain to grow therein, | فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبّا ً |
Wa `Inabāan Wa Qađbāan | َ080-028 As well as grapes, vegetables, | وَعِنَبا ً وَقَضْبا ً |
Wa Zaytūnāan Wa Nakhlāan | َ080-029 The olive, the date-palm, | وَزَيْتُونا ً وَنَخْلا ً |
Wa Ĥadā'iqa Ghulbāan | َ080-030 Orchards with dense trees, | وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبا ً |
Wa Fākihatan Wa 'Abbāan | َ080-031 Fruits and herbage; | وَفَاكِهَة ً وَأَبّا ً |
Matā`āan Lakum Wa Li'an`āmikum | َ080-032 A goodly provision for you and your cattle. | مَتَاعا ً لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ |
Fa'idhā Jā'ati Aş-Şākhkhahu | َ080-033 Again (you should also consider) when the deafening shout shall come, | فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ |
Yawma Yafirru Al-Mar'u Min 'Akhīhi | َ080-034 The day when a person shall flee from his brother, | يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ |
Wa 'Ummihi Wa 'Abīhi | َ080-035 And (from) his mother and his father, | وَأُمِّه ِِ وَأَبِيهِ |
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa Banīhi | َ080-036 And (from) his spouse and his sons, | وَصَاحِبَتِه ِِ وَبَنِيهِ |
Likulli Amri'in Minhum Yawma'idhin Sha'nun Yughnīhi | َ080-037 On that day every person among them shall be concerned enough (regarding his own affairs to occupy him and) to make him indifferent (to others). | لِكُلِّ امْرِئ ٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذ ٍ شَأْن ٌ يُغْنِيهِ |
Wujūhun Yawma'idhin Musfirahun | َ080-038 Some faces, that day, will be beaming, | وُجُوه ٌ ٌ يَوْمَئِذ ٍ مُسْفِرَة ٌ |
Đāĥikatun Mustabshirahun | َ080-039 Smiling (and) joyous. | ضَاحِكَة ٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَة ٌ |
Wa Wujūhun Yawma'idhin `Alayhā Ghabarahun | َ080-040 Some other faces, on that day, will have dust upon them, | وَوُجُوه ٌ ٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَة ٌ |
Tarhaquhā Qatarahun | َ080-041 Gloom covering them. | تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَة ٌ |
'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Kafaratu Al-Fajarahu | َ080-042 Those will be (the faces of) the disbelievers and (of) the doers of evil. | أُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ |
