74) Sūrat Al-Muddaththir | Printed format | 74) سُورَة المُدَّثِّر |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Muddaththiru | َ074-001 O you who have been endowed with excellent capabilities! | يَاأَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ |
| Qum Fa'andhir | َ074-002 Arise (with the Divine Message) and warn. | قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ |
| Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir | َ074-003 And your Lord, do announce His supremacy. | وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ |
| Wa Thiyābaka Faţahhir | َ074-004 And purify your clothes and your heart. | وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ |
| Wa Ar-Rujza Fāhjur | َ074-005 And idol-worship, (spare no pains to) exterminate it and shun all uncleanliness. | وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ |
| Wa Lā Tamnun Tastakthiru | َ074-006 And bestow no favour seeking to get more (in return). | وَلاَ تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ |
| Wa Lirabbika Fāşbir | َ074-007 And endure (your trials) with perseverance for the sake of your Lord. | وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ |
| Fa'idhā Nuqira Fī An-Nāqūri | َ074-008 And the day the trumpet (of the Prophet´s call to the people) is sounded, | فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ |
| Fadhālika Yawma'idhin Yawmun `Asīrun | َ074-009 That will be a day full of woe and distress (for the opponents of Truth for this day will spell final defeat of disbelief). | فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذ ٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِير ٌ |
| `Alá Al-Kāfirīna Ghayru Yasīrin | َ074-010 For the disbelievers it will not be easy (to behold the complete triumph of Truth). | عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِير ٍ |
| Dharnī Wa Man Khalaqtu Waĥīdāan | َ074-011 Leave Me alone to deal with him whom I created, | ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدا ً |
| Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan Mamdūdāan | َ074-012 To whom I gave abundant wealth, | وَجَعَلْتُ لَه ُُ مَالا ً مَمْدُودا ً |
| Wa Banīna Shuhūdāan | َ074-013 And sons that remain present (with him), | وَبَنِينَ شُهُودا ً |
| Wa Mahhadtu Lahu Tamhīdāan | َ074-014 And I provided for him all necessary equipment; | وَمَهَّدْتُ لَه ُُ تَمْهِيدا ً |
| Thumma Yaţma`u 'An 'Azīda | َ074-015 Yet he covets that I should give (him) more. | ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ |
| Kallā ۖ 'Innahu Kāna Li'yātinā `Anīdāan | َ074-016 Certainly not, for he has been a stubborn opponent to Our Messages. | كَلاَّ ۖ إِنَّه ُُ كَانَ لِأيَاتِنَا عَنِيدا ً |
| Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdāan | َ074-017 Rather I will inflict on him an increasingly overwhelming torment. | سَأُرْهِقُه ُُ صَعُودا ً |
| 'Innahu Fakkara Wa Qaddara | َ074-018 Lo! he pondered and planned, | إِنَّه ُُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ |
| Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara | َ074-019 Ruin seize him! how (maliciously) he planned, | فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| Thumma Qutila Kayfa Qaddara | َ074-020 Again ruin seize him! how (maliciously) he planned, | ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| Thumma Nažara | َ074-021 Then he looked about (to give his calculations and planning another thought), | ثُمَّ نَظَرَ |
| Thumma `Abasa Wa Basara | َ074-022 Then he frowned and scowled (in disdain), | ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ |
| Thumma 'Adbara Wa Astakbara | َ074-023 Then he turned back (in scorn) and waxed proud, | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ |
| Faqāla 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Yu'utharu | َ074-024 And said, `This (Qur´ân) is nothing but an age long magic handed down (by tradition). | فَقَالَ إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ سِحْر ٌ يُؤْثَرُ |
| 'In Hādhā 'Illā Qawlu Al-Bashari | َ074-025 `This is nothing but mere words of a human being.´ | إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ |
| Sa'uşlīhi Saqara | َ074-026 Soon I shall cast him into the Hell-fire. | سَأُصْلِيه ِِ سَقَرَ |
| Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Saqaru | َ074-027 How should you realize what the Hell- fire is? | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ |
| Lā Tubqī Wa Lā Tadharu | َ074-028 It spares none. It leaves nothing (unconsumed). | لاَ تُبْقِي وَلاَ تَذَرُ |
| Lawwāĥatun Lilbashari | َ074-029 It scorches the face, the skin and the body. | لَوَّاحَة ٌ لِلْبَشَرِ |
| `Alayhā Tis`ata `Ashara | َ074-030 Nineteen (wardens) are appointed over it (- the Hell-fire in consonance with the nineteen human faculties the misuse of which results in punishment for the sinners). | عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ |
| Wa Mā Ja`alnā 'Aşĥāba An-Nāri 'Illā Malā'ikatan ۙ Wa Mā Ja`alnā `Iddatahum 'Illā Fitnatan Lilladhīna Kafarū Liyastayqina Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Yazdāda Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Īmānāan ۙ Wa Lā Yartāba Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Al-Mu'uminūna ۙ Wa Liyaqūla Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Wa Al-Kāfirūna Mādhā 'Arāda Al-Lahu Bihadhā Mathalāan ۚ Kadhālika Yuđillu Al-Lahu Man Yashā'u Wa Yahdī Man Yashā'u ۚ Wa Mā Ya`lamu Junūda Rabbika 'Illā Huwa ۚ Wa Mā Hiya 'Illā Dhikrá Lilbashari | َ074-031 None but angels have We appointed as wardens of the Hell-fire. We have fixed their number in order to purify (and purge) the sins of those who disbelieve. The result of this is that the people of the Scripture will be convinced, and those who believe will increase in faith (and act with righteousness). And those who have been given the Scriptures as well as the believers may (both) attain certainty (and will not be misguided). And the people with diseased hearts and the disbelievers will say, `What does Allâh mean by such an illustration?´ Thus does Allâh forsake him who wishes (to go astray), and guides him who wishes (to be guided). And none knows (the number) of the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Qur´ân) is nothing but a means for human beings to rise to eminence. | وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلاَّ مَلاَئِكَة ً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلاَّ فِتْنَة ً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانا ً ۙ وَلاَ يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَض ٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلا ً ۚ كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلاَّ هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ |
| Kallā Wa Al-Qamari | َ074-032 Nay, I call the moon to witness, | كَلاَّ وَالْقَمَرِ |
| Wa Al-Layli 'Idh 'Adbara | َ074-033 And also the night when it departs, | وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ |
| Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā 'Asfara | َ074-034 And the dawn when it shines forth, | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ |
| 'Innahā La'iĥdá Al-Kubari | َ074-035 Verily, it (- the Fire of Hell) in itself is one of the great calamities, | إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ |
| Nadhīrāan Lilbashari | َ074-036 A warning to mankind. | نَذِيرا ً لِلْبَشَرِ |
| Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akhkhara | َ074-037 Yet whosoever of you wants to go ahead (may do so), or whoever of you wants to lag behind (may do so, for warning avails only those who are really keen to be guided aright). | لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ |
| Kullu Nafsin Bimā Kasabat Rahīnahun | َ074-038 Every soul is bound to pay for its deeds. | كُلُّ نَفْس ٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَة ٌ |
| 'Illā 'Aşĥāba Al-Yamīni | َ074-039 Different, however, is the case of the blessed ones. | إِلاَّ أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ |
| Fī Jannātin Yatasā'alūna | َ074-040 (They will be) in Gardens inquiring | فِي جَنَّات ٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ |
| `Ani Al-Mujrimīna | َ074-041 Of the guilty ones, | عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ |
| Mā Salakakum Fī Saqara | َ074-042 `What has brought you into Hell?´ | مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ |
| Qālū Lam Naku Mina Al-Muşallīna | َ074-043 They will reply, `We were not of those who offered Prayers; | قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ |
| Wa Lam Naku Nuţ`imu Al-Miskīna | َ074-044 `Nor did we feed the poor. | وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ |
| Wa Kunnā Nakhūđu Ma`a Al-Khā'iđīna | َ074-045 `And we indulged in vain talk along with those who indulged therein, | وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ |
| Wa Kunnā Nukadhdhibu Biyawmi Ad-Dīni | َ074-046 `And we always cried lies to the Day of Requital, | وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ |
| Ĥattá 'Atānā Al-Yaqīnu | َ074-047 `Till death overtook us.´ | حَتَّى أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ |
| Famā Tanfa`uhum Shafā`atu Ash-Shāfi`īna | َ074-048 That is why the intercession of the intercessors will be of no avail to them. | فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ |
| Famā Lahum `Ani At-Tadhkirati Mu`riđīna | َ074-049 What is the wrong with them, then, that they are thus turning away from the exhortation (of the Qur´ân), | فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ |
| Ka'annahum Ĥumurun Mustanfirahun | َ074-050 (They behave) as if they were frightened donkeys (making others frightful too), | كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُر ٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَة ٌ |
| Farrat Min Qaswarahin | َ074-051 Running away from a lion? | فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَة ٍ |
| Bal Yurīdu Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Şuĥufāan Munashsharahan | َ074-052 The fact is that everyone of them desires that he should (individually) be given open Scripture (direct from heaven). | بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئ ٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَى صُحُفا ً مُنَشَّرَة ً |
| Kallā ۖ Bal Lā Yakhāfūna Al-'Ākhiraha | َ074-053 This can never be so. The fact is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. | كَلاَّ ۖ بَلْ لاَ يَخَافُونَ الآخِرَةَ |
| Kallā 'Innahu Tadhkirahun | َ074-054 This should not be so. Verily, this (Qur´ân) is a means to rise to eminence. | كَلاَّ إِنَّه ُُ تَذْكِرَة ٌ |
| Faman Shā'a Dhakarahu | َ074-055 Let him then, who will, remember it (to win glory and honour for himself), | فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ |
| Wa Mā Yadhkurūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Al-Lahu ۚ Huwa 'Ahlu At-Taqwá Wa 'Ahlu Al-Maghfirahi | َ074-056 But these (deniers) will not remember it unless Allâh (so) will. He alone is worthy to be taken as a shield and He alone is most worthy of granting protection. | وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ |
