'Idhā Waqa`ati Al-Wāqi`ahu | َ056-001 (Beware of the time) when the inevitable (and the promised) Event shall come to pass. | إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ |
Laysa Liwaq`atihā Kādhibahun | َ056-002 There is no denying its coming to pass. | لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَة ٌ |
Khāfiđatun Rāfi`ahun | َ056-003 (This event shall be) lowering (the status of some and) exalting (that of others). | خَافِضَة ٌ رَافِعَة ٌ |
'Idhā Rujjati Al-'Arđu Rajjāan | َ056-004 (This will take place) when the earth shall be shaken with a violent shaking | إِذَا رُجَّتِ الأَرْضُ رَجّا ً |
Wa Bussati Al-Jibālu Bassāan | َ056-005 And the mountains shall be completely shattered, | وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسّا ً |
Fakānat Habā'an Munbaththāan | َ056-006 So that they shall all be reduced to particles of dust scattered about. | فَكَانَتْ هَبَاء ً مُنْبَثّا ً |
Wa Kuntum 'Azwājāan Thalāthahan | َ056-007 And (at that time) you shall be (sorted out into) three distinct categories, | وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَاجا ً ثَلاَثَة ً |
Fa'aşĥābu Al-Maymanati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi | َ056-008 (First) those that are blessed. How (lucky) the blessed will be! | فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi | َ056-009 And (then) those that are wretched, how (miserable) the condition of the wretched will be! | وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ |
Wa As-Sābiqūna As-Sābiqūna | َ056-010 And (third) those that are foremost (in faith). They are by all means the foremost (in the Hereafter). | وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ |
'Ūlā'ika Al-Muqarrabūna | َ056-011 It is they who have (really) achieved nearness (to their Lord). | أُوْلَائِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ |
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi | َ056-012 (They shall abide) in Gardens of bliss. | فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna | َ056-013 A large party of them (will hail) from the early (believers); | ثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Qalīlun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna | َ056-014 While a few (of them will hail) from the later ones. | وَقَلِيل ٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
`Alá Sururin Mawđūnahin | َ056-015 (They will be in the Garden seated) on couches inlaid (with gold and precious jewels). | عَلَى سُرُر ٍ مَوْضُونَة ٍ |
Muttaki'īna `Alayhā Mutaqābilīna | َ056-016 (They will be) reclining thereupon (and sitting) face to face. | مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ |
Yaţūfu `Alayhim Wildānun Mukhalladūna | َ056-017 (Their) young sons will go round about them, who will remain as young as ever, | يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَان ٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ |
Bi'akwābin Wa 'Abārīqa Wa Ka'sin Min Ma`īnin | َ056-018 Carrying goblets and (shining) beakers and cups (full) of pure and clean drink | بِأَكْوَاب ٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْس ٍ مِنْ مَعِين ٍ |
Lā Yuşadda`ūna `Anhā Wa Lā Yunzifūna | َ056-019 They will get no headache (or giddiness) from their (drinks), nor will they be inebriated and talk nonsense. | لاَ يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلاَ يُنزِفُونَ |
Wa Fākihatin Mimmā Yatakhayyarūna | َ056-020 And (carrying) such fruits as they choose, | وَفَاكِهَة ٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ |
Wa Laĥmi Ţayrin Mimmā Yashtahūna | َ056-021 And (with) flesh of birds exactly to their taste. | وَلَحْمِ طَيْر ٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ |
Wa Ĥūrun `Īnun | َ056-022 And (there will be present) fair houris with lovely large eyes. | وَحُورٌ عِين ٌ |
Ka'amthāli Al-Lu'ulu'ui Al-Maknūni | َ056-023 (Chaste) like pearls, well-guarded and well preserved. | كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ |
Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna | َ056-024 (Such shall be) the reward of their (good) deeds. | جَزَاء ً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ |
Lā Yasma`ūna Fīhā Laghwan Wa Lā Ta'thīmāan | َ056-025 There they shall hear no idle-talk, no sinful speech. | لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوا ً وَلاَ تَأْثِيما ً |
'Illā Qīlāan Salāmāan Salāmāan | َ056-026 But (all that they hear on all sides will be) good and pure words (of salutation) - `Peace be, peace be.´ | إِلاَّ قِيلا ً سَلاَما ً سَلاَما ً |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni | َ056-027 Those that are blessed - how (lucky) the blessed will be! | وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ |
Fī Sidrin Makhđūdin | َ056-028 They shall abide amidst (the land of thornless) Sidrah (- Lote tree, a symbol of bliss); | فِي سِدْر ٍ مَخْضُود ٍ |
Wa Ţalĥin Manđūdin | َ056-029 And (in the Garden of) clustered bananas; | وَطَلْح ٍ مَنْضُود ٍ |
Wa Žillin Mamdūdin | َ056-030 And (in) extended shades; | وَظِلّ ٍ مَمْدُود ٍ |
Wa Mā'in Maskūbin | َ056-031 And (near) water falling from heights; | وَمَاء ٍ مَسْكُوب ٍ |
Wa Fākihatin Kathīrahin | َ056-032 And (amidst) abundant fruit; | وَفَاكِهَة ٍ كَثِيرَة ٍ |
Lā Maqţū`atin Wa Lā Mamnū`ahin | َ056-033 (The season of) which is not limited, and (they are) never forbidden. | لاَ مَقْطُوعَة ٍ وَلاَ مَمْنُوعَة ٍ |
Wa Furushin Marfū`ahin | َ056-034 And (they will have) noble spouses. | وَفُرُش ٍ مَرْفُوعَة ٍ |
'Innā 'Ansha'nāhunna 'Inshā'an | َ056-035 Verily, We have made them (women) excellent and have raised them into a special new creation; | إِنَّا أَنشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنشَاء ً |
Faja`alnāhunna 'Abkārāan | َ056-036 And have made them virgins, pure and undefiled. | فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارا ً |
`Urubāan 'Atrābāan | َ056-037 They are the loving ones (of their husbands), suiting to their ages and matching them in every respect. | عُرُباً أَتْرَابا ً |
Li'aşĥābi Al-Yamīni | َ056-038 (They are meant) for the blessed ones. | لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna | َ056-039 (This group will consist of) a large party from the earlier people (of Islam); | ثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Wa Thullatun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna | َ056-040 And a large party from the later ones. | وَثُلَّة ٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ |
Wa 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli Mā 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli | َ056-041 But as for those that are wretched, how (sad) will be the plight of those that are wretched! | وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ |
Fī Samūmin Wa Ĥamīmin | َ056-042 (They shall dwell) in the midst of (painfully) scorching winds and scalding water; | فِي سَمُوم ٍ وَحَمِيم ٍ |
Wa Žillin Min Yaĥmūmin | َ056-043 And (under) the shadow of black smoke, | وَظِلّ ٍ مِنْ يَحْمُوم ٍ |
Lā Bāridin Wa Lā Karīmin | َ056-044 (Which is) neither cool (to refresh) nor honourable nor of any good to please at all. | لاَ بَارِد ٍ وَلاَ كَرِيم ٍ |
'Innahum Kānū Qabla Dhālika Mutrafīna | َ056-045 They, of course, lived a life of ease and abundance before this (in the present world). | إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ |
Wa Kānū Yuşirrūna `Alá Al-Ĥinthi Al-`Ažīmi | َ056-046 But (they) persisted in extreme sinfulness. | وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنثِ الْعَظِيمِ |
Wa Kānū Yaqūlūna 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamab`ūthūna | َ056-047 And they were wont to say, `Is it that when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones we shall then be raised to life (again)? | وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابا ً وَعِظَاماً أَئِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ |
'Awa 'Ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna | َ056-048 `And is it that our fathers of yore (shall also be raised to a new life with us)?´ | أَوَ آبَاؤُنَا الأَوَّلُونَ |
Qul 'Inna Al-'Awwalīna Wa Al-'Ākhirīna | َ056-049 Say, `Most surely, the earlier people and the later ones | قُلْ إِنَّ الأَوَّلِينَ وَالآخِرِينَ |
Lamajmū`ūna 'Ilá Mīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūmin | َ056-050 `Shall all be gathered together at the fixed time of an appointed day. | لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَى مِيقَاتِ يَوْم ٍ مَعْلُوم ٍ |
Thumma 'Innakum 'Ayyuhā Ađ-Đāllūna Al-Mukadhdhibūna | َ056-051 `Then, O you that have gone astray and cried lies (to the truth)! | ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ |
La'ākilūna Min Shajarin Min Zaqqūmin | َ056-052 `You will certainly eat of Zaqqûm-tree (a symbol of agony), | لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَر ٍ مِنْ زَقُّوم ٍ |
Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna | َ056-053 `And will fill your bellies with it. | فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ |
Fashāribūna `Alayhi Mina Al-Ĥamīmi | َ056-054 `Then you shall drink over it boiling water; | فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ |
Fashāribūna Shurba Al-Hīmi | َ056-055 Lapping it down like the lapping of the camels that suffer from insatiable thirst. | فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ |
Hādhā Nuzuluhum Yawma Ad-Dīni | َ056-056 This will be their (of the wretched ones) entertainment on the Day of Requital. | هَذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ |
Naĥnu Khalaqnākum Falawlā Tuşaddiqūna | َ056-057 It is We Who have created you (the first time), why do you not then realise the reality (of the Resurrection). | نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ فَلَوْلاَ تُصَدِّقُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Tumnūna | َ056-058 Have you given thought to (the sperm drop, your life-germ) that you emit? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تُمْنُونَ |
'A'antum Takhluqūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Al-Khāliqūna | َ056-059 Is it you that create it yourselves, or are We the Creator (of it)? | أَأَنْتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْخَالِقُونَ |
Naĥnu Qaddarnā Baynakumu Al-Mawta Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna | َ056-060 It is We that have ordained death for all of you. And We cannot be stopped from (it), | نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ الْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila 'Amthālakum Wa Nunshi'akum Fī Mā Lā Ta`lamūna | َ056-061 From replacing you with beings similar to you, (or from) evolving you into a form which is unknown to you (at present). | عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ أَمْثَالَكُمْ وَنُنْشِئَكُمْ فِي مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ |
Wa Laqad `Alimtumu An-Nash'ata Al-'Ūlá Falawlā Tadhkkarūna | َ056-062 And you certainly know of the first evolution. Then, why do you not reflect? | وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ النَّشْأَةَ الأُولَى فَلَوْلاَ تَذكَّرُونَ |
'Afara'aytum Mā Taĥruthūna | َ056-063 Have you ever given thought to that which you sow? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمْ مَا تَحْرُثُونَ |
'A'antum Tazra`ūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Az-Zāri`ūna | َ056-064 Is it you that cause it grow or is it We Who are the Growers? | أَأَنْتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُ~ُ أَمْ نَحْنُ الزَّارِعُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Laja`alnāhu Ĥuţāmāan Fažalaltum Tafakkahūna | َ056-065 If We (so) pleased We could reduce it to chaff (before it is ripe and ready to be harvested). And then you would remain lamenting and talking bitterly; | لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَجَعَلْنَاه ُُ حُطَاما ً فَظَلَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ |
'Innā Lamughramūna | َ056-066 (And saying,) `Surely, we have been left indebted, | إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ |
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna | َ056-067 `Rather we have been left with nothing (indeed we are finished).´ | بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu Al-Mā'a Al-Ladhī Tashrabūna | َ056-068 Have you ever given thought to the water that you drink? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ الْمَاءَ الَّذِي تَشْرَبُونَ |
'A'antum 'Anzaltumūhu Mina Al-Muzni 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munzilūna | َ056-069 Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or is it We Who rain it? | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوه ُُ مِنَ الْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنزِلُونَ |
Law Nashā'u Ja`alnāhu 'Ujājāan Falawlā Tashkurūna | َ056-070 If We (so) pleased We could make it brackish. Then why do you not give thanks? | لَوْ نَشَاءُ جَعَلْنَاهُ~ُ أُجَاجا ً فَلَوْلاَ تَشْكُرُونَ |
'Afara'aytumu An-Nāra Allatī Tūrūna | َ056-071 Have you given thought to the fire which you kindle? | أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ النَّارَ الَّتِي تُورُونَ |
'A'antum 'Ansha'tum Shajaratahā 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munshi'ūna | َ056-072 Is it you who produce the tree for (kindling) it (into fire) or is it We the producer (of it)? | أَأَنْتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَا أَمْ نَحْنُ الْمُنشِئُونَ |
Naĥnu Ja`alnāhā Tadhkiratan Wa Matā`āan Lilmuqwīna | َ056-073 We have made it a source of admonition (for the people) and a means to live upon for the needy and the wayfarer. | نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَاهَا تَذْكِرَة ً وَمَتَاعا ً لِلْمُقْوِينَ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi | َ056-074 Glorify, therefore, the name of your Lord, the Incomparably Great. | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
Falā 'Uqsimu Bimawāqi`i An-Nujūmi | َ056-075 As to me, I swear by the places and times of the revelation of the portions of the Qur´ân; | فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ |
Wa 'Innahu Laqasamun Law Ta`lamūna `Ažīmun | َ056-076 And behold! it is a mighty oath, if you only care to know; | وَإِنَّه ُُ لَقَسَم ٌ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيم ٌ |
'Innahu Laqur'ānun Karīmun | َ056-077 That this is most surely a Holy Qur´ân (bestowing bounteous blessings of God), | إِنَّه ُُ لَقُرْآن ٌ كَرِيم ٌ |
Fī Kitābin Maknūnin | َ056-078 In a Book well preserved (in all its purity). | فِي كِتَاب ٍ مَكْنُون ٍ |
Lā Yamassuhu 'Illā Al-Muţahharūna | َ056-079 No one can achieve true insight into it except those who are purified (by leading righteous lives). | لاَ يَمَسُّهُ~ُ إِلاَّ الْمُطَهَّرُونَ |
Tanzīlun Min Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna | َ056-080 (It is) a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. | تَنزِيل ٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ |
'Afabihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi 'Antum Mud/hinūna | َ056-081 Is it this (Divine) discourse that you are the deniers of? | أَفَبِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنْتُمْ مُدْهِنُونَ |
Wa Taj`alūna Rizqakum 'Annakum Tukadhdhibūna | َ056-082 And do you make the denial of it your lot? | وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ |
Falawlā 'Idhā Balaghati Al-Ĥulqūma | َ056-083 Why, then, when the soul (of the dying person) reaches the throat, | فَلَوْلاَ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْحُلْقُومَ |
Wa 'Antum Ĥīna'idhin Tanžurūna | َ056-084 And you are at that time looking on (helplessly), | وَأَنْتُمْ حِينَئِذ ٍ تَنظُرُونَ |
Wa Naĥnu 'Aqrabu 'Ilayhi Minkum Wa Lakin Lā Tubşirūna | َ056-085 And (when) We are nearer to him than you, though you do not see. | وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْكُمْ وَلَكِنْ لاَ تُبْصِرُونَ |
Falawlā 'In Kuntum Ghayra Madīnīna | َ056-086 Why, then, if you are not governed by any authority and are not to be requited, | فَلَوْلاَ إِنْ كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ |
Tarji`ūnahā 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna | َ056-087 You do not bring it (- the soul) back (to the body of the dying person), if you are truthful (in your claim of being independent of the supreme authority)? | تَرْجِعُونَهَا إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ |
Fa'ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Muqarrabīna | َ056-088 And if he (the departed person) belongs to those who have attained nearness (to God and are His chosen ones), | فَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ |
Farawĥun Wa Rayĥānun Wa Jannatu Na`īmin | َ056-089 Then (he will have) happiness, comfort and plenty and Garden of Bliss. | فَرَوْح ٌ وَرَيْحَان ٌ وَجَنَّةُ نَعِيم ٍ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni | َ056-090 And if he (- the departed person) belongs to the blessed people, | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Fasalāmun Laka Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni | َ056-091 Then (it will be said to him,) `Peace be upon you ever, (O you) of the blessed people!´ | فَسَلاَم ٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ |
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Mukadhdhibīna Ađ-Đāllīna | َ056-092 But if he belongs to those who deny the truth and are steeped in error, | وَأَمَّا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ الضَّالِّينَ |
Fanuzulun Min Ĥamīmin | َ056-093 Then (he will be offered) boiling water for an entertainment, | فَنُزُل ٌ مِنْ حَمِيم ٍ |
Wa Taşliyatu Jaĥīmin | َ056-094 And burning in Hell. | وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيم ٍ |
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Ĥaqqu Al-Yaqīni | َ056-095 Verily, this (fact) is a perfect certainty (not merely a certainty by inference or sight), | إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ |
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi | َ056-096 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Incomparably Great. | فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ |
