'Idhā Ash-Shamsu Kūwirat | 081.001 When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; |
Wa 'Idhā An-Nujūmu Ankadarat | 081.002 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jibālu Suyyirat | 081.003 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); |
Wa 'Idhā Al-`Ishāru `Uţţilat | 081.004 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Wuĥūshu Ĥushirat | 081.005 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Biĥāru Sujjirat | 081.006 When the oceans boil over with a swell; |
Wa 'Idhā An-Nufūsu Zūwijat | 081.007 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Maw'ūdatu Su'ilat | 081.008 When the female (infant), buried alive, is questioned - |
Bi'ayyi Dhanbin Qutilat | 081.009 For what crime she was killed; |
Wa 'Idhā Aş-Şuĥufu Nushirat | 081.010 When the scrolls are laid open; |
Wa 'Idhā As-Samā'u Kushiţat | 081.011 When the world on High is unveiled; |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jaĥīmu Su``irat | 081.012 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; |
Wa 'Idhā Al-Jannatu 'Uzlifat | 081.013 And when the Garden is brought near;- |
`Alimat Nafsun Mā 'Aĥđarat | 081.014 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. |
Falā 'Uqsimu Bil-Khunnasi | 081.015 So verily I call to witness the planets - that recede, |
Al-Jawāri Al-Kunnasi | 081.016 Go straight, or hide; |
Wa Al-Layli 'Idhā `As`asa | 081.017 And the Night as it dissipates; |
Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā Tanaffasa | 081.018 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- |
'Innahu Laqawlu Rasūlin Karīmin | 081.019 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, |
Dhī Qūwatin `Inda Dhī Al-`Arshi Makīnin | 081.020 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, |
Muţā`in Thamma 'Amīnin | 081.021 With authority there, (and) faithful to his trust. |
Wa Mā Şāĥibukum Bimajnūnin | 081.022 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; |
Wa Laqad Ra'āhu Bil-'Ufuqi Al-Mubīni | 081.023 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. |
Wa Mā Huwa `Alá Al-Ghaybi Biđanīnin | 081.024 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. |
Wa Mā Huwa Biqawli Shayţānin Rajīmin | 081.025 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. |
Fa'ayna Tadh/habūna | 081.026 When whither go ye? |
'In Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna | 081.027 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: |
Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yastaqīma | 081.028 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: |
Wa Mā Tashā'ūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Al-Lahu Rabbu Al-`Ālamīna | 081.029 But ye shall not will except as God wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. |
