Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Muddaththiru | 074.001 O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! |
Qum Fa'andhir | 074.002 Arise and deliver thy warning! |
Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir | 074.003 And thy Lord do thou magnify! |
Wa Thiyābaka Faţahhir | 074.004 And thy garments keep free from stain! |
Wa Ar-Rujza Fāhjur | 074.005 And all abomination shun! |
Wa Lā Tamnun Tastakthiru | 074.006 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! |
Wa Lirabbika Fāşbir | 074.007 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! |
Fa'idhā Nuqira Fī An-Nāqūri | 074.008 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, |
Fadhālika Yawma'idhin Yawmun `Asīrun | 074.009 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- |
`Alá Al-Kāfirīna Ghayru Yasīrin | 074.010 Far from easy for those without Faith. |
Dharnī Wa Man Khalaqtu Waĥīdāan | 074.011 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- |
Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan Mamdūdāan | 074.012 To whom I granted resources in abundance, |
Wa Banīna Shuhūdāan | 074.013 And sons to be by his side!- |
Wa Mahhadtu Lahu Tamhīdāan | 074.014 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! |
Thumma Yaţma`u 'An 'Azīda | 074.015 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- |
Kallā 'Innahu Kāna Li'yātinā `Anīdāan | 074.016 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! |
Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdāan | 074.017 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! |
'Innahu Fakkara Wa Qaddara | 074.018 For he thought and he plotted;- |
Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara | 074.019 And woe to him! How he plotted!- |
Thumma Qutila Kayfa Qaddara | 074.020 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- |
Thumma Nažara | 074.021 Then he looked round; |
Thumma `Abasa Wa Basara | 074.022 Then he frowned and he scowled; |
Thumma 'Adbara Wa Astakbara | 074.023 Then he turned back and was haughty; |
Faqāla 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Yu'utharu | 074.024 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; |
'In Hādhā 'Illā Qawlu Al-Bashari | 074.025 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" |
Sa'uşlīhi Saqara | 074.026 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! |
Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Saqaru | 074.027 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? |
Lā Tubqī Wa Lā Tadharu | 074.028 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- |
Lawwāĥatun Lilbashari | 074.029 Darkening and changing the colour of man! |
`Alayhā Tis`ata `Ashara | 074.030 Over it are Nineteen. |

Thus doth God leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. |
Kallā Wa Al-Qamari | 074.032 Nay, verily: By the Moon, |
Wa Al-Layli 'Idh 'Adbara | 074.033 And by the Night as it retreateth, |
Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā 'Asfara | 074.034 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- |
'Innahā La'iĥdá Al-Kubari | 074.035 This is but one of the mighty (portents), |
Nadhīrāan Lilbashari | 074.036 A warning to mankind,- |
Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akhkhara | 074.037 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- |
Kullu Nafsin Bimā Kasabat Rahīnahun | 074.038 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. |
'Illā 'Aşĥāba Al-Yamīni | 074.039 Except the Companions of the Right Hand. |
Fī Jannātin Yatasā'alūna | 074.040 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, |
`Ani Al-Mujrimīna | 074.041 And (ask) of the Sinners: |
Mā Salakakum Fī Saqara | 074.042 "What led you into Hell Fire?" |
Qālū Lam Naku Mina Al-Muşallīna | 074.043 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; |
Wa Lam Naku Nuţ`imu Al-Miskīna | 074.044 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; |
Wa Kunnā Nakhūđu Ma`a Al-Khā'iđīna | 074.045 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; |
Wa Kunnā Nukadhdhibu Biyawmi Ad-Dīni | 074.046 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, |
Ĥattá 'Atānā Al-Yaqīnu | 074.047 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." |
Famā Tanfa`uhum Shafā`atu Ash-Shāfi`īna | 074.048 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. |
Famā Lahum `Ani At-Tadhkirati Mu`riđīna | 074.049 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- |
Ka'annahum Ĥumurun Mustanfirahun | 074.050 As if they were affrighted asses, |
Farrat Min Qaswarahin | 074.051 Fleeing from a lion! |
Bal Yurīdu Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Şuĥufāan Munashsharahan | 074.052 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! |
Kallā Bal Lā Yakhāfūna Al-'Ākhiraha | 074.053 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, |
Kallā 'Innahu Tadhkirahun | 074.054 Nay, this surely is an admonition: |
Faman Shā'a Dhakarahu | 074.055 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! |
Wa Mā Yadhkurūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Al-Lahu Huwa 'Ahlu At-Taqwá Wa 'Ahlu Al-Maghfirahi | 074.056 But none will keep it in remembrance except as God wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. |
