Sa'ala Sā'ilun Bi`adhābin Wāqi`in | A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall (Al-Ma'arij 70:1) |
Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un | Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, (Al-Ma'arij 70:2) |
Mina Al-Lahi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji | From Allāh, the Lord of the ways of ascent. (Al-Ma'arij 70:3) |
Ta`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin | The angels and the Rûh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, (Al-Ma'arij 70:4) |
Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan | So be patient (O Muhammad SAW ), with a good patience. (Al-Ma'arij 70:5) |
'Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan | Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, (Al-Ma'arij 70:6) |
Wa Narāhu Qarībāan | But We see it (quite) near. (Al-Ma'arij 70:7) |
Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli | The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). (Al-Ma'arij 70:8) |
Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni | And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, (Al-Ma'arij 70:9) |
Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan | And no friend will ask of a friend, (Al-Ma'arij 70:10) |
Yubaşşarūnahum Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi | Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. (Al-Ma'arij 70:11) |
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi | And his wife and his brother, (Al-Ma'arij 70:12) |
Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi | And his kindred who sheltered him, (Al-Ma'arij 70:13) |
Wa Man Fī Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi | And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. (Al-Ma'arij 70:14) |
Kallā 'Innahā Lažá | By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! (Al-Ma'arij 70:15) |
Nazzā`atan Lilshshawá | Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! (Al-Ma'arij 70:16) |
Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá | Calling: "[O Kafir (O disbeliever in Allāh, His angels, His Book, His Messengers, Day of Resurrection and in Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments), O Mushrik (O polytheist, disbeliever in the Oneness of Allāh)] (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from Faith) [picking and swallowing them up from that great gathering of mankind (on the Day of Resurrection) just as a bird picks up a food-grain from the earth with its beak and swallows it up] [Tafsir Al-Qurtubī, Vol. 18, Page 289] (Al-Ma'arij 70:17) |
Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á | And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allāh). (Al-Ma'arij 70:18) |
'Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan | Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; (Al-Ma'arij 70:19) |
'Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan | Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; (Al-Ma'arij 70:20) |
Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan | And niggardly when good touches him;- (Al-Ma'arij 70:21) |
'Illā Al-Muşallīna | Except those devoted to Salāt (prayers). (Al-Ma'arij 70:22) |
Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna | Those who remain constant in their Salāt (prayers); (Al-Ma'arij 70:23) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun | And those in whose wealth there is a known right, (Al-Ma'arij 70:24) |
Lilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi | For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); (Al-Ma'arij 70:25) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni | And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, (Al-Ma'arij 70:26) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna | And those who fear the torment of their Lord, (Al-Ma'arij 70:27) |
'Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin | Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, (Al-Ma'arij 70:28) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna | And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). (Al-Ma'arij 70:29) |
'Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna | Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, (Al-Ma'arij 70:30) |
Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna | But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. (Al-Ma'arij 70:31) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna | And those who keep their trusts and covenants; (Al-Ma'arij 70:32) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna | And those who stand firm in their testimonies; (Al-Ma'arij 70:33) |
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna | And those who guard their Salāt (prayers) well[, (Al-Ma'arij 70:34) |
'Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna | Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. (Al-Ma'arij 70:35) |
Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna | So what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten to listen from you (O Muhammad SAW), in order to belie you and to mock at you, and at Allāh's Book (this Qur'ān). (Al-Ma'arij 70:36) |
`Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna | (Sitting) in groups on the right and on the left (of you, O Muhammad SAW)? (Al-Ma'arij 70:37) |
'Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin | Does every man of them hope to enter the Paradise of delight? (Al-Ma'arij 70:38) |
Kallā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna | No, that is not like that! Verily, We have created them out of that which they know! (Al-Ma'arij 70:39) |
Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna | So I swear by the Lord of all [the three hundred and sixty (360)] points of sunrise and sunset in the east and the west that surely We are Able (Al-Ma'arij 70:40) |
`Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna | To replace them by (others) better than them; and We are not to be outrun. (Al-Ma'arij 70:41) |
Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna | So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they meet their Day which they are promised. (Al-Ma'arij 70:42) |
Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna | The Day when they will come out of the graves quickly as racing to a goal, (Al-Ma'arij 70:43) |
Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna | With their eyes lowered in fear and humility, ignominy covering them (all over)! That is the Day which they were promised! (Al-Ma'arij 70:44) |
