53) Sūrat An-Najm

Wa An-Najmi 'Idhā Hawá By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (An-Najm 53:1)
Mā Đalla Şāĥibukum Wa Mā Ghawá Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. (An-Najm 53:2)
Wa Mā Yanţiqu `Ani Al-Hawá Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. (An-Najm 53:3)
'In Huwa 'Illā Waĥyun Yūĥá It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. (An-Najm 53:4)
`Allamahu Shadīdu Al-Quwá He has been taught (this Qur'ān) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (An-Najm 53:5)
Dhū Mirratin Fāstawá Dhu Mirrah (free from any defect in body and mind), Fastawa [then he (Jibrael ­ Gabriel) rose and became stable]. [Tafsir At-Tabarī]. (An-Najm 53:6)
Wa Huwa Bil-'Ufuqi Al-'A`lá While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, (An-Najm 53:7)
Thumma Danā Fatadallá Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, (An-Najm 53:8)
Fakāna Qāba Qawsayni 'Aw 'Adná And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, (An-Najm 53:9)
Fa'awĥá 'Ilá `Abdihi Mā 'Awĥá So did (Allāh) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. (An-Najm 53:10)
Mā Kadhaba Al-Fu'uādu Mā Ra'á The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. (An-Najm 53:11)
'Afatumārūnahu `Alá Mā Yará Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'rāj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. (An-Najm 53:12)
Wa Laqad Ra'āhu Nazlatan 'Ukh And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). (An-Najm 53:13)
`Inda Sidrati Al-Muntahá Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], (An-Najm 53:14)
`Indahā Jannatu Al-Ma'wá Near it is the Paradise of Abode. (An-Najm 53:15)
'Idh Yaghshá As-Sidrata Mā Yaghshá When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! (An-Najm 53:16)
Mā Zāgha Al-Başaru Wa Mā Ţaghá The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). (An-Najm 53:17)
Laqad Ra'á Min 'Āyāti Rabbihi Al-Kub Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allāh). (An-Najm 53:18)
'Afara'aytumu Al-Lāta Wa Al-`Uzzá Have you then considered Al-Lāt, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs) (An-Najm 53:19)
Wa Manāata Ath-Thālithata Al-'Ukh And Manāt (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? (An-Najm 53:20)
'Alakumu Adh-Dhakaru Wa Lahu Al-'Unthá Is it for you the males and for Him the females? (An-Najm 53:21)
Tilka 'Idhāan Qismatun Đīzá That indeed is a division most unfair! (An-Najm 53:22)
'In Hiya 'Illā 'Asmā'un Sammaytumūhā 'Antum Wa 'Ābā'uukum Mā 'Anzala Al-Lahu Bihā Min Sulţānin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illā Až-Žanna Wa Mā Tahwá Al-'Anfusu Wa Laqad Jā'ahum Min Rabbihimu Al-Hudá They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allāh has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! (An-Najm 53:23)
'Am Lil'insāni Mā Tamanná Or shall man have what he wishes? (An-Najm 53:24)
Falillāhi Al-'Ākhiratu Wa Al-'Ū But to Allāh belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). (An-Najm 53:25)
Wa Kam Min Malakin As-Samāwāti Lā TughShafā`atuhum Shay'āan 'Illā Min Ba`di 'An Ya'dhana Al-Lahu Liman Yashā'u Wa Yarđá And there are many angels in the heavens, whose intercession will avail nothing except after Allāh has given leave for whom He wills and pleases. (An-Najm 53:26)
'Inna Al-Ladhīna Lā Yu'uminūna Bil-'Ākhirati Layusammūna Al-Malā'ikata Tasmiyata Al-'Unthá Verily, those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names. (An-Najm 53:27)
Wa Mā Lahum Bihi Min `Ilmin 'In Yattabi`ūna 'Illā Až-Žanna Wa 'Inna Až-Žanna Lā Yughnī Mina Al-Ĥaqqi Shay'āan While they have no knowledge thereof. They follow but a guess, and verily, guess is no substitute for the truth. (An-Najm 53:28)
Fa'a`riđ `An Man Tawallá `An Dhikrinā Wa Lam Yurid 'Illā Al-Ĥayāata Ad-Dun Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad SAW) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur'ān) and desires nothing but the life of this world. (An-Najm 53:29)
Dhālika Mablaghuhum Mina Al-`Ilmi 'Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Ahtadá That is what they could reach of knowledge. Verily, your Lord it is He Who knows best him who goes astray from His Path, and He knows best him who receives guidance. (An-Najm 53:30)
Wa Lillahi Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'Arđi Liyajziya Al-Ladhīna 'Asā'ū Bimā `Amilū Wa Yajziya Al-Ladhīna 'Aĥsanū Bil-Ĥusná And to Allāh belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth, that He may requite those who do evil with that which they have done (i.e. punish them in Hell), and reward those who do good, with what is best (i.e. Paradise). (An-Najm 53:31)
Al-Ladhīna Yajtanibūna Kabā'ira Al-'Ithmi Wa Al-Fawāĥisha 'Illā Al-Lamama 'Inna Rabbaka Wāsi`u Al-Maghfirati Huwa 'A`lamu Bikum 'Idh 'Ansha'akum Mina Al-'Arđi Wa 'Idh 'Antum 'Ajinnatun Fī Buţūni 'Ummahātikum Falā Tuzakkū 'Anfusakum Huwa 'A`lamu Bimani Attaqá Those who avoid great sins (see the Qur'ān, Verses: 6:152,153) and Al-Fawāhish (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) except the small faults, verily, your Lord is of vast forgiveness. He knows you well when He created you from the earth (Adam), and when you were fetuses in your mothers' wombs. So ascribe not purity to yourselves. He knows best him who fears Allāh and keep his duty to Him [i.e. those who are Al-Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2)]. (An-Najm 53:32)
'Afara'ayta Al-Ladhī Tawallá Did you (O Muhammad SAW) observe him who turned away (from Islām). (An-Najm 53:33)
Wa 'A`ţá Qalīlāan Wa 'Akdá And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? (An-Najm 53:34)
'A`indahu `Ilmu Al-Ghaybi Fahuwa Yará Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? (An-Najm 53:35)
'Am Lam Yunabba' Bimā Fī Şuĥufi Mūsá Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Mûsa (Moses), (An-Najm 53:36)
Wa 'Ibrāhīma Al-Ladhī Wa Ffá And of Ibrāhim (Abraham) who fulfilled (or conveyed) all that (what Allāh ordered him to do or convey), (An-Najm 53:37)
'Allā Taziru Wāziratun Wizra 'Ukh That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another, (An-Najm 53:38)
Wa 'An Laysa Lil'insāni 'Illā Mā Sa`á And that man can have nothing but what he does (good or bad), (An-Najm 53:39)
Wa 'Anna Sa`yahu Sawfa Yurá And that his deeds will be seen, (An-Najm 53:40)
Thumma Yujzāhu Al-Jazā'a Al-'Awfá Then he will be recompensed with a full and the best recompense (An-Najm 53:41)
Wa 'Anna 'Ilá Rabbika Al-Muntahá And that to your Lord (Allāh) is the End (Return of everything). (An-Najm 53:42)
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Ađĥaka Wa 'Ab And that it is He (Allāh) Who makes (whom He wills) laugh, and makes (whom He wills) weep; (An-Najm 53:43)
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Amāta Wa 'Aĥyā And that it is He (Allāh) Who causes death and gives life; (An-Najm 53:44)
Wa 'Annahu Khalaqa Az-Zawjayni Adh-Dhakara Wa Al-'Unthá And that He (Allāh) creates the pairs, male and female, (An-Najm 53:45)
Min Nuţfatin 'Idhā Tumná From Nutfah (drops of semen male and female discharges) when it is emitted; (An-Najm 53:46)
Wa 'Anna `Alayhi An-Nash'ata Al-'Ukh And that upon Him (Allāh) is another bringing forth (Resurrection); (An-Najm 53:47)
Wa 'Annahu Huwa 'Aghná Wa 'Aqná And that it is He (Allāh) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), (An-Najm 53:48)
Wa 'Annahu Huwa Rabbu Ash-Shi`rá And that He (Allāh) is the Lord of Sirius (the star which the pagan Arabs used to worship); (An-Najm 53:49)
Wa 'Annahu 'Ahlaka `Ādāan Al-'Ū And that it is He (Allāh) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), (An-Najm 53:50)
Wa Thamūda Famā 'Ab And Thamûd (people). He spared none of them. (An-Najm 53:51)
Wa Qawma Nūĥin Min Qablu 'Innahum Kānū Hum 'Ažlama Wa 'Aţghá And the people of Nuh aforetime, they were most oppressive and transgressing. (An-Najm 53:52)
Wa Al-Mu'utafikata 'Ahwá And He destroyed the overthrown cities [of Sodom to which Prophet Lout (Lot) was sent]. (An-Najm 53:53)
Faghashshāhā Mā Ghashshá So there covered them that which did cover (i.e. torment with stones). (An-Najm 53:54)
Fabi'ayyi 'Ālā'i Rabbika Tatamārá Then which of the Graces of your Lord (O man!) will you doubt. (An-Najm 53:55)
dhā Nadhīrun Mina An-Nudhuri Al-'Ū This (Muhammad SAW) is a warner (Messenger) of the (series of) warners (Messengers) of old . (An-Najm 53:56)
'Azifati Al-'Āzifahu The Day of Resurrection draws near, (An-Najm 53:57)
Laysa Lahā Min Dūni Al-Lahi Kāshifahun None besides Allāh can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). (An-Najm 53:58)
'Afamin Hādhā Al-Ĥadīthi Ta`jabūna Do you then wonder at this recital (the Qur'ān)? (An-Najm 53:59)
Wa Tađĥakūna Wa Lā Tabkūna And you laugh at it and weep not, (An-Najm 53:60)
Wa 'Antum Sāmidūna Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). (An-Najm 53:61)
Fāsjudū Lillahi Wa A`budū So fall you down in prostration to Allāh, and worship Him (Alone). (An-Najm 53:62)
