THIS CHAPTER of 8 verses was revealed after Divorce 65 and before Banishment 59. Since it dates from the late Meccan or early Madinese periods, the verses here are somewhat longer. It distinguishes the true believer from those who merely play with belief and good behavior. In the name of God, the Mercy-giving, the Merciful!
Lam Yakuni Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Min 'Ahli Al-Kitābi Wa Al-Mushrikīna Munfakkīna Ĥattá Ta'tiyahumu Al-Bayyinahu    098-001* Those People of the Book who have disbelieved, plus the associators [of others with God] did not give up until evidence came to them, ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌
Rasūlun Mina Al-Lahi Yatlū Şuĥufāan Muţahharahan    098-002* [through] a messenger from God reciting purified pages ‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍
Fīhā Kutubun Qayyimahun    098-003* which comprise changeless books.
Wa Mā Tafarraqa Al-Ladhīna 'Ū Al-Kitāba 'Illā Min Ba`di Mā Jā'at/humu Al-Bayyinahu    098-004* Nor did those who were given the Book disagree (about it) until after evidence had come to them. ‌ ‍ ‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‍ ‌ ‌ ‍‍‍
Wa Mā 'Umirū 'Illā Liya`budū Al-Laha Mukhlişīna Lahu Ad-Dīna Ĥunafā'a Wa Yuqīmū Aş-Şalāata Wa Yu'utū Az-Zakāata ۚ Wa Dhalika Dīnu Al-Qayyimahi    098-005* Yet they have merely been ordered to worship God sincerely - [reserving] religion for Him [Alone], as righteous seekers [after Truth] and to keep up prayer and pay the welfare tax. That is the religion for an established [community].
Hell and Paradise
‍‌ ‌ ‌‌ ‌‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‌‍‍‍‍ ۚ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍
'Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Min 'Ahli Al-Kitābi Wa Al-Mushrikīna Fī Nāri Jahannama Khālidīna Fīhā ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Hum Sharru Al-Barīyahi    098-006* Those People of the Book who disbelieve as well as the associators will remain in Hell fire; those are the worst creatures. ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ۚ ‍‍‌‍‍‍
'Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti 'Ūlā'ika Hum Khayru Al-Barīyahi    098-007* Those who believe and perform honorable deeds are the best creatures; ‍‍‍‍ ‌‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍ ‍‌
Jazā'uuhum `Inda Rabbihim Jannātu `Adnin Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Khālidīna Fīhā 'Abadāan ۖ Rađiya Al-Lahu `Anhum Wa Rađū `Anhu ۚ Dhālika Liman Khashiya Rabbahu    098-008* their reward from their Lord will be gardens of Eden through which rivers flow, to live in for ever. God is pleased with them while they feel pleased with Him. That is [reserved] for anyone who dreads his Lord. ‍‍‌‌ ‍‌‍‍‍‍‌ ‌‍‍‍‍‍‌ ‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‌‍‍‌‌ ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‌ ‌‌‌ۖ ‌‍‍‍‍ ‌‌‍‍‍ۚ‍ ‌‍
