| THIS EARLY chapter was revealed after The Gossipmonger 104 and (The Letter) Qaf 50 (compare it also with Chapter 51 called Winnowing [Winds] and The Chargers 100). It consists of 50 Meccan verses, although v. 48 dates from Madina. This chapter has another refrain running through it: "[It will be] too bad for rejectors on that day!" and begins with a series of oaths. The whole expresses a poetic mood which is extremely difficult to capture in translation. Compare this manner with the one in The Chargers 100. In the name of God, the Mercy-giving, the Merciful! | Fāl`āşifāti `Aşfāan | 077-002* and gales that rage on and on, | فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفا ً |
| Wa An-Nāshirāti Nashrāan | 077-003* scattering things around; | وَالنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرا ً |
| Fālfāriqāti Farqāan | 077-004* then dividing them all up, | فَالْفَارِقَاتِ فَرْقا ً |
| Fālmulqiyāti Dhikrāan | 077-005* and delivering a Reminder | فَالْمُلْقِيَاتِ ذِكْرا ً |
| `Udhrāan 'Aw Nudhrāan | 077-006* either as a plea or a warning, | عُذْرا ً أَوْ نُذْرا ً |
| 'Innamā Tū`adūna Lawāqi`un | 077-007* you (all) are surely promised something inevitable. | إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَاقِع ٌ |
| Fa'idhā An-Nujūmu Ţumisat | 077-008* When the stars fade away, | فَإِذَا النُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ |
| Wa 'Idhā As-Samā'u Furijat | 077-009* when the sky splits open, | وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ فُرِجَتْ |
| Wa 'Idhā Al-Jibālu Nusifat | 077-010* when mountains are pulverized | وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ |

| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-015* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| 'Alam Nuhliki Al-'Awwalīna | 077-016* Did We not wipe out ancient men? | أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الأَوَّلِينَ |
| Thumma Nutbi`uhumu Al-'Ākhirīna | 077-017* Then We followed them up with later ones. | ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الآخِرِينَ |
| Kadhālika Naf`alu Bil-Mujrimīna | 077-018* Thus We deal with criminals! | كَذَلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-019* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| 'Alam Nakhluqkum Min Mā'in Mahīnin | 077-020* Do We not create you (all) from a despised fluid? | أَلَمْ نَخْلُقْكُمْ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَهِين ٍ |
| Faja`alnāhu Fī Qarārin Makīnin | 077-021* We place it in a firm resting-place | فَجَعَلْنَاه ُ فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِين ٍ |
| 'Ilá Qadarin Ma`lūmin | 077-022* for a known period. | إِلَى قَدَرٍ مَعْلُوم ٍ |
| Faqadarnā Fani`ma Al-Qādirūna | 077-023* We measure it out and how favored are Those Who measure it! | فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ الْقَادِرُونَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-024* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| 'Alam Naj`ali Al-'Arđa Kifātāan | 077-025* Have We not placed the earth as a round up | أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الأَرْضَ كِفَاتا ً |
| 'Aĥyā'an Wa 'Amwātāan | 077-026* for the living and the dead? | أَحْيَاء ً وَأَمْوَاتا ً |
| Wa Ja`alnā Fīhā Rawāsiya Shāmikhātin Wa 'Asqaynākum Mā'an Furātāan | 077-027* We have planted lofty headlands on it and offered you (all) fresh water to drink. | وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمْ مَاء ً فُرَاتا ً |

| Anţaliqū 'Ilá Mā Kuntum Bihi Tukadhdhibūna | 077-029* Hurry off to whatever you have been rejecting! | ا نطَلِقُوا إِلَى مَا كُنتُمْ بِه ِِ تُكَذِّبُونَ |
| Anţaliqū 'Ilá Žillin Dhī Thalāthi Shu`abin | 077-030* Hurry away to shade which has three sections, | ا نطَلِقُوا إِلَى ظِلّ ٍ ذِي ثَلاَثِ شُعَبٍ |
| Lā Žalīlin Wa Lā Yughnī Mina Al-Lahabi | 077-031* which is not shady nor any help against flame. | لاَ ظَلِيلٍ وَلاَ يُغْنِي مِنَ اللَّهَبِ |
| 'Innahā Tarmī Bishararin Kālqaşri | 077-032* It throws off sparks like a palace [on fire], | إِنَّهَا تَرْمِي بِشَرَر ٍ كَالْقَصْرِ |
| Ka'annahu Jimālatun Şufrun | 077-033* [bright] as a yellow camel herd. | كَأَنَّه ُ جِمَالَة ٌ صُفْر ٌ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-034* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Hādhā Yawmu Lā Yanţiqūna | 077-035* This will be a day when they will not utter [a sound]; | هَذَا يَوْمُ لاَ يَنطِقُونَ |
| Wa Lā Yu'udhanu Lahum Faya`tadhirūna | 077-036* nor will they be permitted to offer any excuse. | وَلاَ يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-037* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Hādhā Yawmu Al-Faşli ۖ Jama`nākum Wa Al-'Awwalīna | 077-038* This is a day for Sorting [things] out; We shall bring you (all) together with the original men. | هَذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَاكُمْ وَالأَوَّلِينَ |
| Fa'in Kāna Lakum Kaydun Fakīdūni | 077-039* If you have any scheme, then scheme against me. | فَإِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْد ٌ فَكِيدُونِ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-040* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day! Those who Do their Duty (ii) | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| 'Inna Al-Muttaqīna Fī Žilālin Wa `Uyūnin | 077-041* The heedful will be in shady nooks by springs | إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلاَلٍ وَعُيُون ٍ |
| Wa Fawākiha Mimmā Yashtahūna | 077-042* and have whatever fruit they may hanker for: | وَفَوَاكِه ََ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ |
| Kulū Wa Ashrabū Hanī'āan Bimā Kuntum Ta`malūna | 077-043* "Eat and drink at leisure because of what you have been doing." | كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئا ً بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ |
| 'Innā Kadhālika Najzī Al-Muĥsinyna | 077-044* Thus We reward those who act kindly. | إِنَّا كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنينَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-045* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day. | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Kulū Wa Tamatta`ū Qalīlāan 'Innakum Mujrimūna | 077-046* Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while, since you are criminals. | كُلُوا وَتَمَتَّعُوا قَلِيلا ً إِنَّكُمْ مُجْرِمُونَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-047* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day. | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Wa 'Idhā Qīla Lahumu Arka`ū Lā Yarka`ūna | 077-048* When someone told them: "Bow your heads!", | وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لاَ يَرْكَعُونَ |
| Waylun Yawma'idhin Lilmukadhdhibīna | 077-049* they would not bow their heads [in prayer]. | وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ |
| Fabi'ayyi Ĥadīthin Ba`dahu Yu'uminūna | 077-050* It will be too bad for rejectors on that day. | فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيث ٍ بَعْدَه ُ يُؤْمِنُونَ |
