| THESE 20 VERSES arranged in two sections all date from Mecca, except for vv. 10, 11 and 20, which are from Madina; the short crisp Meccan verses are thus followed by a longer passage from Madina. The chapter was revealed after The Pen 68, and it refers to the Prophet's worries as he initially accepts his mission and searches for Truth. | Yawma Tarjufu Al-'Arđu Wa Al-Jibālu Wa Kānati Al-Jibālu Kathībāan Mahīlāan | 073-014* Some day the earth and mountains will rumble, and the mountains spill over as if they had been turned into sand. | يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبا ً مَهِيلا ً |
| 'Innā 'Arsalnā 'Ilaykum Rasūlāan Shāhidāan `Alaykum Kamā 'Arsalnā 'Ilá Fir`awna Rasūlāan | 073-015* We have sent a messenger to you (all) to act as a witness concerning you, just as We sent Pharaoh a messenger. | إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولا ً شَاهِدا ً عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولا ً |
| Fa`aşá Fir`awnu Ar-Rasūla Fa'akhadhnāhu 'Akhdhāan Wabīlāan | 073-016* Yet Pharaoh defied the messenger, so We seized him mercilessly! | فَعَصَى فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ~ُ أَخْذا ً وَبِيلا ً |
| Fakayfa Tattaqūna 'In Kafartum Yawmāan Yaj`alu Al-Wildāna Shībāan | 073-017* So how will you do your duty if you already disbelieve in the day which will turn children into greybeards? | فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْما ً يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبا ً |
| As-Samā'u Munfaţirun Bihi ۚ Kāna Wa`duhu Maf`ūlāan | 073-018* The sky will crack open from it; His promise will be fulfilled. | السَّمَاءُ مُنْفَطِرٌ بِه ِِ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُه ُ مَفْعُولا ً |
| 'Inna Hadhihi Tadhkiratun ۖ Faman Shā'a Attakhadha 'Ilá Rabbihi Sabīlāan | 073-019* This is a Reminder, so let anyone who so wishes, adopt a way unto his Lord. Prayer at Night; Vigil (ii) | إِنَّ هَذِه ِِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَى رَبِّه ِِ سَبِيلا ً |
| 'Inna Rabbaka Ya`lamu 'Annaka Taqūmu 'Adná Min Thuluthayi Al-Layli Wa Nişfahu Wa Thuluthahu Wa Ţā'ifatun Mina Al-Ladhīna Ma`aka Wa ۚ Allāhu Yuqaddiru Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra ۚ `Alima 'An Lan Tuĥşūhu Fatāba `Alaykum ۖ Fāqra'ū Mā Tayassara Mina Al-Qur'āni ۚ `Alima 'An Sayakūnu Minkum Marđá ۙ Wa 'Ākharūna Yađribūna Fī Al-'Arđi Yabtaghūna Min Fađli Al-Lahi ۙ Wa 'Ākharūna Yuqātilūna Fī Sabīli Al-Lahi ۖ Fāqra'ū Mā Tayassara Minhu ۚ Wa 'Aqīmū Aş-Şalāata Wa 'Ātū Az-Zakāata Wa 'Aqriđū Al-Laha Qarđāan Ĥasanāan ۚ Wa Mā Tuqaddimū Li'nfusikum Min Khayrin Tajidūhu `Inda Al-Lahi Huwa Khayrāan Wa 'A`žama 'Ajrāan ۚ Wa Astaghfirū Al-Laha ۖ 'Inna Al-Laha Ghafūrun Raĥīmun | 073-020* Your Lord knows how you stay up close to two thirds of the night [in prayer], half of it, and even a third of it; and [so do) a group of those who are with you. God measures out both night and daylight; He knows that you (all) will never count them up, so He has relented towards you. Charity and Taxes Read whatever seems feasible from the Quran. He knows that some of you may be ill while others are out travelling around the earth seeking God's bounty, and still others are fighting for God's sake. So read any of it that seems feasible, and keep up prayer and pay the welfare tax, and advance God a handsome loan. Anything good you send on ahead for yourselves, you will find [later on] with God; it is better and more important as earnings. Seek forgiveness from God; God will be Forgiving, Merciful. | إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَى مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَه ُ وَثُلُثَه ُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ لَنْ تُحْصُوه ُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضَى ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضا ً حَسَنا ً ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوه ُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرا ً وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرا ً ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ |
