THIS CHAPTER was revealed after the previous one entitled Crouching T45 and forms the last of the Ha-Mim series. It is dated prior to Winnowing [Winds] 51 and consists of 35 late Meccan verses arranged in four sections, except for vv. 10, 15 & 35, which date from Madina. Verse 21 (III) mentions the dunes in the country of Ad in southern Arabia which provide the chapter with its title. Here the Prophet is heard pleading with the disbelievers in Mecca. The chapter also discusses how to treat one's parents (II). "Sprites and the Quran" is a graphic tale to be found at the end of the chapter (IV) In the name of God, the Mercy-giving, the Merciful!
