| THIS FIVE-SECTION chapter contains 88 early Meccan verses; it was revealed after The Moon 54 and before The Heights 7. Its revelation occurred during a period of intense trial for the Prophet. The title refers to the unvoiced velarized sibilant, or the letter 's' which here may stand for as-Sadiq or 'the Truthful [God]' or 'the friend' (who tells you everything, whether you want to hear it or not); thus it means our voice of conscience or power of discretion. One of David's judgments is described in a dramatic manner (II) Solomon then appears (III); next Job and other prophets (IV). Soon have a description of Heaven and Hell (IV) and the chapter ends with Diabolis' fall V . Sections III-IV are somewhat parallel to those of 21:V-VI. | Bali Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fī `Izzatin Wa Shiqāqin | 038-002* Rather those who disbelieve [are toying] with prestige and dissension. | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ |
| Kam 'Ahlaknā Min Qablihim Min Qarnin Fanādaw Walāta Ĥīna Manāşin | 038-003* How many generations have We wiped out before them? They called out, and the time for escape had lapsed. | كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنْ قَرْن ٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلاَتَ حِينَ مَنَاص ٍ |
| Wa `Ajibū 'An Jā'ahum Mundhirun Minhum ۖ Wa Qāla Al-Kāfirūna Hādhā Sāĥirun Kadhdhābun | 038-004* They are surprise that a warner should come to them from among themselves. Disbelievers say: "This is some lying magician! | وَعَجِبُوا أَنْ جَاءَهُمْ مُنْذِرٌ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ |
| 'Aja`ala Al-'Ālihata 'Ilahāan Wāĥidāan ۖ 'Inna Hādhā Lashay'un `Ujābun | 038-005* Has he made [all] the gods into One God? This is such an amazing thing!" | أَجَعَلَ الآلِهَةَ إِلَها ً وَاحِدا ً ۖ إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ |
| Wa Anţalaqa Al-Mala'u Minhum 'Ani Amshū Wa Aşbirū `Alá 'Ālihatikum ۖ 'Inna Hādhā Lashay'un Yurādu | 038-006* The elders among them sound off: "Walk around and be patient concerning your gods. This is something to be desired. | وَانطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَى آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ |
| Mā Sami`nā Bihadhā Fī Al-Millati Al-'Ākhirati 'In Hādhā 'Illā Akhtilāqun | 038-007* We have not heard any of this among any latterday denomination; this is merely a fabrication. | مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ اخْتِلاَقٌ |
| 'A'uunzila `Alayhi Adh-Dhikru Min Bayninā ۚ Bal Hum Fī Shakkin Min Dhikrī ۖ Bal Lammā Yadhūqū `Adhābi | 038-008* Has a Reminder been revealed just to him among us?", Indeed they are in doubt about My reminder; rather they have not yet tasted any torment! | أَؤُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِنْ ذِكْرِي ۖ بَلْ لَمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ |
| 'Am `Indahum Khazā'inu Raĥmati Rabbika Al-`Azīzi Al-Wahhābi | 038-009* Or do they have treasures from the mercy of your Lord, the Powerful, the Bountiful? | أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ |
| 'Am Lahum Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā ۖ Falyartaqū Fī Al-'Asbābi | 038-010* Have they control over Heaven and Earth and whatever [lies] between them? Let them haul themselves up on ropes. | أَمْ لَهُمْ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الأَسْبَابِ |
| Jundun Mā Hunālika Mahzūmun Mina Al-'Aĥzābi | 038-011* What a partisan army will be routed there | جُندٌ مَا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِنَ الأَحْزَابِ |
| Kadhdhabat Qablahum Qawmu Nūĥin Wa `Ādun Wa Fir`awnu Dhū Al-'Awtādi | 038-012* Noah's folk and Ad's rejected [Me] before them, and [so did] Pharaoh who [impaled men] on stakes, | كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الأَوْتَادِ |
| Wa Thamūdu Wa Qawmu Lūţin Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-'Aykati ۚ 'Ūlā'ika Al-'Aĥzābu | 038-013* and Thamud, Lots folk, and the inhabitants of the Forest. Those were all partisans; | وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُوْلَائِكَ الأَحْزَابُ |
| 'In Kullun 'Illā Kadhdhaba Ar-Rusula Faĥaqqa `Iqābi | 038-014* every last one rejected the messengers, so My punishment was justified. David (II) | إِنْ كُلّ ٌ إِلاَّ كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ |
| Wa Mā Yanžuru Hā'uulā' 'Illā Şayĥatan Wāĥidatan Mā Lahā Min Fawāqin | 038-015* Those persons only await a single Blast which will [allow for] no delay. | وَمَا يَنظُرُ هَاؤُلاَء إِلاَّ صَيْحَة ً وَاحِدَة ً مَا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ |
| Wa Qālū Rabbanā `Ajjil Lanā Qiţţanā Qabla Yawmi Al-Ĥisābi | 038-016* They will say: "Our Lord, hasten our doom for us before the Day of Reckoning!" | وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ |
| Aşbir `Alá Mā Yaqūlūna Wa Adhkur `Abdanā Dāwūda Dhā Al-'Aydi ۖ 'Innahu 'Awwābun | 038-017* Endure what they are saying and remember how Our servant David commanded assistance; he was attentive [to God]. | اصْبِرْ عَلَى مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُودَ ذَا الأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُ~ُ أَوَّابٌ |
| 'Innā Sakhkharnā Al-Jibāla Ma`ahu Yusabbiĥna Bil-`Ashīyi Wa Al-'Ishrāqi | 038-018* We forced the mountains to glorify [God] with him at evening and sunrise | إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَه ُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالإِشْرَاقِ |
| Wa Aţ-Ţayra Maĥshūratan ۖ Kullun Lahu 'Awwābun | 038-019* -and the birds were summoned and each was [made] attentive to him. | وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَة ً ۖ كُلّ ٌ لَهُ~ُ أَوَّابٌ |
| Wa Shadadnā Mulkahu Wa 'Ātaynāhu Al-Ĥikmata Wa Faşla Al-Khiţābi | 038-020* We strengthened his control and gave him wisdom and distinction as an orator. His Judgment | وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَه ُ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ |
| Wa Hal 'Atāka Naba'u Al-Khaşmi 'Idh Tasawwarū Al-Miĥrāba | 038-021* Has news of the litigants ever reached you, when they climbed over the wall into the sanctuary? | وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ نَبَأُ الْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا الْمِحْرَابَ |
| 'Idh Dakhalū `Alá Dāwūda Fafazi`a Minhum ۖ Qālū Lā Takhaf ۖ Khaşmāni Baghá Ba`đunā `Alá Ba`đin Fāĥkum Baynanā Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Lā Tushţiţ Wa Ahdinā 'Ilá Sawā'i Aş-Şirāţi | 038-022* Thus they burst in upon David so he was startled by them. They said: "Dont be afraid: [we are] two litigants, one of whom has injured the other; so judge correctly between us and do not act too stern. Guide us along the Level Road. Partnership; Cooperation | إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَى دَاوُودَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا لاَ تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَى بَعْضُنَا عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلاَ تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَى سَوَاءِ الصِّرَاطِ |
| 'Inna Hādhā 'Akhī Lahu Tis`un Wa Tis`ūna Na`jatan Wa Liya Na`jatun Wāĥidatun Faqāla 'Akfilnīhā Wa `Azzanī Fī Al-Khiţābi | 038-023* "This is my brother; he has ninety-nine ewes while I have but a single ewe. He has said: "Turn her over to me," and has spoken harshly to me." | إِنَّ هَذَا أَخِي لَه ُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَة ً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَة ٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي الْخِطَابِ |
| Qāla Laqad Žalamaka Bisu'uāli Na`jatika 'Ilá Ni`ājihi ۖ Wa 'Inna Kathīrāan Mina Al-Khulaţā'i Layabghī Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin 'Illā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Wa Qalīlun Mā Hum ۗ Wa Žanna Dāwūdu 'Annamā Fatannāhu Fāstaghfara Rabbahu Wa Kharra Rāki`āan Wa 'Anāba | 038-024* He said: "He has wronged you by asking for your ewe [to be added] to his own ewes. Many partners try to take advantage of one another, except for those who believe and perform honorable deeds. Such are few indeed." BOW DOWN HERE David suspected that We were merely testing him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord and dropped down on his knees [in worship], and repented. | قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَى نِعَاجِه ِِ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرا ً مِنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُودُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّاه ُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّه ُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعا ً وَأَنَابَ |
| Faghafarnā Lahu Dhālika ۖ Wa 'Inna Lahu `Indanā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ābin | 038-025* So We forgave him that. He enjoys precedence with Us and the finest retreat. | فَغَفَرْنَا لَه ُ ذَلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَه ُ عِنْدَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ |
| Yā Dāwūdu 'Innā Ja`alnāka Khalīfatan Fī Al-'Arđi Fāĥkum Bayna An-Nāsi Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Lā Tattabi`i Al-Hawá Fayuđillaka `An Sabīli Al-Lahi ۚ 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Yađillūna `An Sabīli Al-Lahi Lahum `Adhābun Shadīdun Bimā Nasū Yawma Al-Ĥisābi | 038-026* David, We have placed you as an overlord on earth, so judge among men correctly and do not follow any whims which will lead you away from God's path. Those who stray from God's path will have severe torment because they have forgotten the Day of Reckoning! (III) | يَادَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاكَ خَلِيفَة ً فِي الأَرْضِ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلاَ تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَى فَيُضِلَّكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ ۚ الَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ |
| Wa Mā Khalaqnā As-Samā'a Wa Al-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Bāţilāan ۚ Dhālika Žannu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū ۚ Fawaylun Lilladhīna Kafarū Mina An-Nāri | 038-027* We did not create Heaven and Earth and whatever [lies] in between them to no purpose. That is the opinion of those who disbelieve. Those who disbelieve should beware of the Fire! | وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلا ً ۚ ذَلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْل ٌ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ |
| 'Am Naj`alu Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Kālmufsidīna Fī Al-'Arđi 'Am Naj`alu Al-Muttaqīna Kālfujjāri | 038-028* Shall We treat those who believe and perform honorable deeds just like mischief-makers on earth? Or should We treat those who do their duty, like lawbreakers? | أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِي الأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ |
| Kitābun 'Anzalnāhu 'Ilayka Mubārakun Liyaddabbarū 'Āyātihi Wa Liyatadhakkara 'Ūlū Al-'Albābi | 038-029* We have sent down a Book to you that is blessed, so prudent men may ponder over its verses and thereby be reminded. Solomon's Trials | كِتَابٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ~ُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَك ٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِه ِِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُوْلُوا الأَلْبَابِ |
| Wa Wahabnā Lidāwūda Sulaymāna ۚ Ni`ma Al-`Abdu ۖ 'Innahu 'Awwābun | 038-030* We bestowed Solomon on David. How favored was such a servant; he was so attentive! | وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُودَ سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ~ُ أَوَّابٌ |
| 'Idh `Uriđa `Alayhi Bil-`Ashīyi Aş-Şāfinātu Al-Jiyādu | 038-031* When the thoroughbreds were led out to prance before him in the evening, | إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ |
| Faqāla 'Innī 'Aĥbabtu Ĥubba Al-Khayri `An Dhikri Rabbī Ĥattá Tawārat Bil-Ĥijābi | 038-032* he said: "I have loved good things instead of remembering God," until the [sun] was concealed behind the veil [of night again]. | فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ |
| Ruddūhā `Alayya ۖ Faţafiqa Masĥāan Bis-Sūqi Wa Al-'A`nāqi | 038-033* Bring them back to me!" [he said], and he started to stroke their legs and necks. | رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحا ً بِالسُّوقِ وَالأَعْنَاقِ |
| Wa Laqad Fatannā Sulaymāna Wa 'Alqaynā `Alá Kursīyihi Jasadāan Thumma 'Anāba | 038-034* We tested Solomon and dropped a[nother] body on his seat; then he repented. | وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَانَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَى كُرْسِيِّه ِِ جَسَدا ً ثُمَّ أَنَابَ |
| Qāla Rabbi Aghfir Lī Wa Hab Lī Mulkāan Lā Yanbaghī Li'ĥadin Min Ba`dī ۖ 'Innaka 'Anta Al-Wahhābu | 038-035* He said: "My Lord, forgive me and bestow control on me such as will not suit anyone after me. You are the Bountiful!" | قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكا ً لاَ يَنْبَغِي لِأحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ |
| Fasakhkharnā Lahu Ar-Rīĥa Tajrī Bi'amrihi Rukhā'an Ĥaythu 'Aşāba | 038-036* So We subjected the wind to him: it blew gently at his command wherever he directed it; | فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِه ِِ رُخَاءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ |
| Wa Ash-Shayāţīna Kulla Bannā'in Wa Ghawwāşin | 038-037* and the devils, every builder and diver, | وَالشَّيَاطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّاءٍ وَغَوَّاص ٍ |
| Wa 'Ākharīna Muqarranīna Fī Al-'Aşfādi | 038-038* as well as others hitched together in a chain gang. | وَآخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي الأَصْفَادِ |
| Hādhā `Aţā'uunā Fāmnun 'Aw 'Amsik Bighayri Ĥisābin | 038-039* Such are Our gifts; grant them freely or hold them back, without any [further] reckoning." | هَذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ |
| Wa 'Inna Lahu `Indanā Lazulfá Wa Ĥusna Ma'ābin | 038-040* He holds precedence with Us and the finest retreat. Job (IV) | وَإِنَّ لَه ُ عِنْدَنَا لَزُلْفَى وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ |
| Wa Adhkur `Abdanā 'Ayyūba 'Idh Nādá Rabbahu 'Annī Massanī Ash-Shayţānu Binuşbin Wa `Adhābin | 038-041* Remember Our servant Job when he called upon his Lord: "Satan has afflicted me with toil and torment." | وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ~ُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِي الشَّيْطَانُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ |
| Arkuđ Birijlika ۖ Hādhā Mughtasalun Bāridun Wa Sharābun | 038-042* "Stomp your foot; this is a cool spring to wash in and for drinking (too)." | ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ |
| Wa Wahabnā Lahu 'Ahlahu Wa Mithlahum Ma`ahum Raĥmatan Minnā Wa Dhikrá Li'wlī Al-'Albābi | 038-043* We restored his family to him and the like of them besides, as a mercy from Us and a Reminder for prudent persons. | وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ~ُ أَهْلَه ُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَة ً مِنَّا وَذِكْرَى لِأوْلِي الأَلْبَابِ |
| Wa Khudh Biyadika Đighthāan Fāđrib Bihi Wa Lā Taĥnath ۗ 'Innā Wa Jadnāhu Şābirāan ۚ Ni`ma Al-`Abdu ۖ 'Innahu 'Awwābun | 038-044* "Take a bundle (of twigs) in your hand and beat [your wife] with it, and do not break your word." We found him to be patient; how favored was such a servant. He was so attentive! Other Prophets | وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثا ً فَاضْرِبْ بِه ِِ وَلاَ تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاه ُ صَابِرا ً ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ~ُ أَوَّابٌ |
| Wa Adhkur `Ibādanā 'Ibrāhīma Wa 'Isĥāqa Wa Ya`qūba 'Ūlī Al-'Aydī Wa Al-'Abşāri | 038-045* Remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, who possessed both might and insight. | وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُوْلِي الأَيْدِي وَالأَبْصَارِ |
| 'Innā 'Akhlaşnāhum Bikhālişatin Dhikrá Ad-Dāri | 038-046* We dedicated them specifically as a reminder for the Home; | إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُمْ بِخَالِصَة ٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ |
| Wa 'Innahum `Indanā Lamina Al-Muşţafayna Al-'Akhyāri | 038-047* some of them were selected from the very best by Us. | وَإِنَّهُمْ عِنْدَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الأَخْيَارِ |
| Wa Adhkur 'Ismā`īla Wa Al-Yasa`a Wa Dhā Al-Kifli ۖ Wa Kullun Mina Al-'Akhyāri | 038-048* Remember Ishmael, Elisha and [Ezekiel] with the Commission; each [came] from the very best. Heaven | وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِنَ الأَخْيَارِ |
| Hādhā Dhikrun ۚ Wa 'Inna Lilmuttaqīna Laĥusna Ma'ābin | 038-049* This is a Reminder; those who do their duty shall have a fine retreat, | هَذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ |
| Jannāti `Adnin Mufattaĥatan Lahumu Al-'Abwābu | 038-050* gardens of Eden whose gates will swing open for them | جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُفَتَّحَة ً لَهُمُ الأَبْوَابُ |
| Muttaki'īna Fīhā Yad`ūna Fīhā Bifākihatin Kathīratin Wa Sharābin | 038-051* Relaxing there, they will call for much fruit and drink in them. | مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَة ٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ |
| Wa `Indahum Qāşirātu Aţ-Ţarfi 'Atrābun | 038-052* With them there will be bashful mates equal in age to them. | وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ |
| Hādhā Mā Tū`adūna Liyawmi Al-Ĥisābi | 038-053* This is what you were promised on the Day of Reckoning; | هَذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ |
| 'Inna Hādhā Larizqunā Mā Lahu Min Nafādin | 038-054* this is Our provision which will never he used up. Hell | إِنَّ هَذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَه ُ مِنْ نَفَاد ٍ |
| Hādhā ۚ Wa 'Inna Lilţţāghīna Lasharra Ma'ābin | 038-055* Such will it be, while the arrogant will have the worst retreat - | هَذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّاغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَآبٍ |
| Jahannama Yaşlawnahā Fabi'sa Al-Mihādu | 038-056* Hell! They will roast in it, and on an awful couch! | جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ |
| Hādhā Falyadhūqūhu Ĥamīmun Wa Ghassāqun | 038-057* Here it is; let them taste it: scalding water and bitter cold; | هَذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوه ُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ |
| Wa 'Ākharu Min Shaklihi 'Azwājun | 038-058* and others of its sort to match. | وَآخَرُ مِنْ شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَاجٌ |
| Hādhā Fawjun Muqtaĥimun Ma`akum ۖ Lā Marĥabāan Bihim ۚ 'Innahum Şālū An-Nāri | 038-059* Here comes a troop rushing at you! They have no welcome here, for they must roast in the Fire. | هَذَا فَوْجٌ مُقْتَحِمٌ مَعَكُمْ ۖ لاَ مَرْحَبا ً بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا النَّارِ |
| Qālū Bal 'Antum Lā Marĥabāan Bikum ۖ 'Antum Qaddamtumūhu Lanā ۖ Fabi'sa Al-Qarāru | 038-060* They will say: "Indeed you have no welcome either. You have prepared it for us; what an awful plight!" | قَالُوا بَلْ أَنْتُمْ لاَ مَرْحَبا ً بِكُمْ ۖ أَنْتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوه ُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ |
| Qālū Rabbanā Man Qaddama Lanā Hādhā Fazid/hu `Adhābāan Đi`fāan Fī An-Nāri | 038-061* They will say: "Our Lord, whoever prepared this for us? Give him double torment in the Fire!" | قَالُوا رَبَّنَا مَنْ قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابا ً ضِعْفا ً فِي النَّارِ |
| Wa Qālū Mā Lanā Lā Nará Rijālāan Kunnā Na`udduhum Mina Al-'Ashrār | 038-062* They will say: "What is the matter with us that we do not see any men whom we used to consider were evil persons? | وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا لاَ نَرَى رِجَالا ً كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُمْ مِنَ الأَشْرَار |
| 'Āttakhadhnāhum Sikhrīyāan 'Am Zāghat `Anhumu Al-'Abşāru | 038-063* Did we take them for laughingstocks or has our eyesight failed to notice them?" | أَاتَّخَذْنَاهُمْ سِخْرِيّا ً أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ الأَبْصَارُ |
| 'Inna Dhālika Laĥaqqun Takhāşumu 'Ahli An-Nāri | 038-064* That is true: the people in the Fire will just argue away. (V) | إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَحَقّ ٌ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ |
| Qul 'Innamā 'Anā Mundhirun ۖ Wa Mā Min 'Ilahin 'Illā Al-Lahu Al-Wāĥidu Al-Qahhāru | 038-065* SAY: "I am only a warner, and there is no deity except God Alone the Irresistible, | قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا مُنذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَهٍ~ٍ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ |
| Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Al-`Azīzu Al-Ghaffāru | 038-066* Lord of Heaven and Earth and whatever [lies] in between them, the Powerful, the Forgiving!" | رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ |
| Qul Huwa Naba'un `Ažīmun | 038-067* SAY: "It is a fateful message | قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيم ٌ |
| 'Antum `Anhu Mu`riđūna | 038-068* you are shunning. | أَنْتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ |
| Mā Kāna Liya Min `Ilmin Bil-Mala'i Al-'A`lá 'Idh Yakhtaşimūna | 038-069* I have no knowledge about the supreme council such as they claim to have. | مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْم ٍ بِالْمَلَإِ الأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ |
| 'In Yūĥá 'Ilayya 'Illā 'Annamā 'Anā Nadhīrun Mubīnun | 038-070* It has been revealed to me only that I am a plain warner. Diabolis' Fall | إِنْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلاَّ أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُبِين ٌ |
| 'Idh Qāla Rabbuka Lilmalā'ikati 'Innī Khāliqun Basharāan Min Ţīnin | 038-071* Once your Lord told the angels: "I am about to create a human being out of clay. | إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِق ٌ بَشَرا ً مِنْ طِين ٍ |
| Fa'idhā Sawwaytuhu Wa Nafakhtu Fīhi Min Rūĥī Faqa`ū Lahu Sājidīna | 038-072* When I have fashioned him and breathed some of My spirit into him, drop down on your knees before him." | فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُه ُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيه ِِ مِنْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَه ُ سَاجِدِينَ |
| Fasajada Al-Malā'ikatu Kulluhum 'Ajma`ūna | 038-073* The angels all bowed down on their knees together | فَسَجَدَ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ |
| 'Illā 'Iblīsa Astakbara Wa Kāna Mina Al-Kāfirīna | 038-074* except for Diabolis; he was too proud and a disbeliever besides. | إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ |
| Qāla Yā 'Iblīsu Mā Mana`aka 'An Tasjuda Limā Khalaqtu Biyadayya ۖ 'Āstakbarta 'Am Kunta Mina Al-`Ālīna | 038-075* He said: 'Diabolis, what prevents you from kneeling down before something I have created with My own hands? Have you become to proud, or are you overbearing?" | قَالَ يَاإِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ أَاسْتَكْبَرْتَ ۖ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ |
| Qāla 'Anā Khayrun Minhu ۖ Khalaqtanī Min Nārin Wa Khalaqtahu Min Ţīnin | 038-076* He said: "I am better than he is: You created me from fire while You created him from clay." | قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ نَارٍ وَخَلَقْتَه ُ مِنْ طِينٍ |
| Qāla Fākhruj Minhā Fa'innaka Rajīmun | 038-077* He said: "Clear out of here! You are an outcast; | قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيم ٌ |
| Wa 'Inna `Alayka La`natī 'Ilá Yawmi Ad-Dīni | 038-078* upon you My curse will rest until the Day for Repayment." | وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ |
| Qāla Rabbi Fa'anžirnī 'Ilá Yawmi Yub`athūna | 038-079* He said: "My Lord, let me wait until the day when they will be raised up again," | قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ |
| Qāla Fa'innaka Mina Al-Munžarīna | 038-080* He said: "You are one of those who may wait | قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ |
| 'Ilá Yawmi Al-Waqti Al-Ma`lūmi | 038-081* till a day in known time." | إِلَى يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ |
| Qāla Fabi`izzatika La'ughwiyannahum 'Ajma`īna | 038-082* He said: "Through Your influence, I'll seduce them all | قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ |
| 'Illā `Ibādaka Minhumu Al-Mukhlaşīna | 038-083* except for those among them who are Your sincere worshippers." | إِلاَّ عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ |
| Qāla Fālĥaqqu Wa Al-Ĥaqqa 'Aqūlu | 038-084* He said: "Such is the Truth, and the Truth do I speak: | قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ |
| La'amla'anna Jahannama Minka Wa Mimman Tabi`aka Minhum 'Ajma`īna | 038-085* I shall fill Hell with you and any of them who follows you!' | لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكَ وَمِمَّنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ |
| Qul Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin Wa Mā 'Anā Mina Al-Mutakallifīna | 038-086* SAY: "I do not ask you (all) for any payment for it. Nor am I standing on ceremony; | قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ |
| 'In Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna | 038-087* it is only a Reminder to [everyone in] the Universe | إِنْ هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ |
| Wa Lata`lamunna Naba'ahu Ba`da Ĥīnin | 038-088* so you may know its message after a while." | وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَه ُ بَعْدَ حِين ٍ |
