026-001* T.S.M. طَ ا-سِين -مِيم Tilka 'Ā yā tu A l-Kitā bi A l-Mubī ni 026-002* These are verses from the Clear Book. تِلْكَ آيَا تُ ا لْكِتَا بِ ا لْمُبِي نِ La`allaka Bākh i`un Nafsaka 'Allā Yakūnū Mu'uminī na 026-003* Perhaps you are fretting your soul away because they are not believers. لَعَلَّكَ بَاخِ عٌ نَفْسَكَ أَلاَّ يَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِي نَ 'In Nash a' Nunazzil `Alayhim Mina A s-Samā 'i 'Ā yatan Fažallat 'A`nāq uhum Lahā Kh āđi`ī na 026-004* If We so wished, We might send a sign down to them from Heaven so they would bow their heads submissively before it. إِن ْ نَشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم ْ مِنَ ا ل سَّمَا ءِ آيَة ً فَظَ لَّتْ أَعْنَاقُ هُمْ لَهَا خَ اضِ عِي نَ Wa Mā Ya'tīhim Min Dh ikr in Mina A r-Ra ĥmā ni Muĥdath in 'Illā Kānū `Anhu Mu`r iđī na 026-005* No Reminder ever comes to them as a renewal from the Mercy-giving except they shun it. وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم ْ مِن ْ ذِكْرٍ مِنَ ا ل رَّحْمَنِ مُحْدَث ٍ إِلاَّ كَا نُوا عَنْهُ مُعْر ِض ِي نَ Faq ad Kadh dh abū Fasaya'tīhim 'An bā 'u Mā Kānū Bihi Yastahzi'ū n 026-006* They have just rejected [it], so news of what they have been ridiculing will soon come to them. فَقَ د ْ كَذَّبُوا فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَن ْبَا ءُ مَا كَا نُوا بِه ِ ِ يَسْتَهْزِئُ ون 'Awalam Yara w 'Ilá A l-'Arđi Kam 'An batnā Fīhā Min Kulli Zawjin Kar ī min 026-007* Have they not looked at the earth [to see] how many generous species We have grown on it? أَوَلَمْ يَرَ وْا إِلَى ا لأَرْضِ كَمْ أَن ْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن ْ كُلِّ زَوْج ٍ كَر ِي م ٍ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-008* In that is a sign; though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-009* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful. Moses' Story (II) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Wa 'Idh Nād á Ra b buka Mūsá 'Ani A 'ti A l-Q awma A ž-Ž ālimī na 026-010* So your Lord summoned Moses: "Go to the wrongdoing folk, وَإِذْ نَادَى رَ بُّكَ مُوسَى أَنِ ا ئْتِ ا لْقَ وْمَ ا ل ظّ َالِمِي نَ Q awma Fir `awna ۚ 'Alā Yattaq ū na 026-011* Pharaoh's folk! Will they not heed?" قَ وْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ أَلاَ يَتَّق ُو نَ Q ā la Ra b bi 'Inn ī 'Akh ā fu 'An Yukadh dh ibū ni 026-012* He said: "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, ق َا لَ رَ بِّ إِنّ ِي أَخ َا فُ أَن ْ يُكَذِّبُو نِ Wa Yađī q u Ş ad r ī Wa Lā Yan ţ aliq u Lisānī Fa'arsil 'Ilá Hārū na 026-013* and my breast feels cramped while my tongue will not loosen up. Send for Aaron! وَيَض ِي قُ صَ د ْر ِي وَلاَ يَن ْطَ لِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَى هَارُو نَ Wa Lahum `Alayya Dh an bun Fa'akh ā fu 'An Yaq tulū ni 026-014* They have [laid] a charge against me; so I fear they will kill me." وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَن ْب ٌ فَأَخ َا فُ أَن ْ يَق ْتُلُو نِ Q ā la Kallā ۖ Fādh /habā Bi'ā yātinā ۖ 'Inn ā Ma`akum Mustami`ū na 026-015* He said; "Indeed not; let both of you go off with Our signs, We will be listening along with you. ق َا لَ كَلاَّ ۖ فَا ذْهَبَا بِآيَاتِنَا ۖ إِنّ َا مَعَكُم ْ مُسْتَمِعُو نَ Fa'tiyā Fir `awna Faq ūlā 'Inn ā Ra sū lu Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-016* Go to Pharaoh and say: "We are messengers from the Lord of the Universe. فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُ ولاَ إِنّ َا رَ سُو لُ رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ 'An 'Arsil Ma`anā Banī 'Isrā 'ī la 026-017* Send the Children of Israel off with us!"' أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ Q ā la 'Alam Nura b bika Fīnā Walīdāan Wa Labith ta Fīnā Min `Umur ika Sinī na 026-018* He said: "Did we not rear you as a child among us and you spent several years of your life with us? ق َا لَ أَلَمْ نُرَ بِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدا ً وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُر ِكَ سِنِي نَ Wa Fa`alta Fa`lataka A llatī Fa`alta Wa 'An ta Mina A l-Kāfir ī na 026-019* Yet you committed the deed you did: You are so ungrateful!" وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ ا لَّتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَن ْتَ مِنَ ا لْكَافِر ِي نَ Q ā la Fa`altuhā 'Idh āan Wa 'Anā Mina A đ-Đ ā llīn 026-020* He said: "I did it while I was misguided. ق َا لَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذا ً وَأَنَا مِنَ ا ل ضّ َا لِّين Fafara rtu Min kum Lamm ā Kh iftukum Fawahaba Lī Ra b bī Ĥukmāan Wa Ja`alanī Mina A l-Mursalī na 026-021* I fled from you (all) because I feared you. Still my Lord has bestowed discretion on me and set me up as an emissary. فَفَرَ رْتُ مِن ْكُمْ لَمّ َا خِ فْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَ بِّي حُكْما ً وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ Wa Tilka Ni`matun Tamunn uhā `Alayya 'An `Ab bad ta Banī 'Isrā 'ī la 026-022* Is this some favor you have shown me-that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"' وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَة ٌ تَمُنّ ُهَا عَلَيَّ أَنْ عَبَّد ْتَ بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ Q ā la Fir `awnu Wa Mā Ra b bu A l-`Ālamī na 026-023* Pharaoh said: "What is the Lord of the Universe?" ق َا لَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَ بُّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Q ā la Ra b bu A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā ۖ 'In Kun tum Mūq inī na 026-024* He said: "The Lord of Heaven and Earth and whatever [lies] in between them, if you will be convinced." ق َا لَ رَ بُّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إن ْ كُن تُم ْ مُوقِ نِي نَ Q ā la Liman Ĥawlahu 'Alā Tastami`ū na 026-025* He said to those around him: "Arent you listening?" ق َا لَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ~ ُ أَلاَ تَسْتَمِعُو نَ Q ā la Ra b bukum Wa Ra b bu 'Ā bā 'ikumu A l-'Awwalī na 026-026* He said: "Your Lord and the Lord of your very first forefathers," ق َا لَ رَ بُّكُمْ وَرَ بُّ آبَا ئِكُمُ ا لأَوَّلِي نَ Q ā la 'Inn a Ra sūlakumu A l-Ladh ī 'Ursila 'Ilaykum Lamaj nū nun 026-027* He said: "Your messenger who has been sent to you is crazy!" ق َا لَ إِنّ َ رَ سُولَكُمُ ا لَّذِي أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَج ْنُو ن ٌ Q ā la Ra b bu A l-Mash r iq i Wa A l-Magh r ibi Wa Mā Baynahumā ۖ 'In Kun tum Ta`q ilū na 026-028* He said: "[He comes from] the Lord of the East and West, and whatever lies inbetween them, if you know how to reason." ق َا لَ رَ بُّ ا لْمَشْر ِقِ وَا لْمَغْ ر ِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِن ْ كُن ْتُمْ تَعْقِ لُو نَ Q ā la La'ini A ttakh adh ta 'Ilahāan Gh ayr ī La'aj `alann aka Mina A l-Masjūnī na 026-029* He said: "If you should adopt any god besides me, I shall make you a prisoner." ق َا لَ لَئِنِ ا تَّخَ ذْتَ إِلَهَاً غَ يْر ِي لَأَج ْعَلَنّ َكَ مِنَ ا لْمَسْجُونِي نَ Q ā la 'Awalaw Ji'tuka Bish ay'in Mubī nin 026-030* He said: "Even if I bring you something obvious?" ق َا لَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُبِي ن ٍ Q ā la Fa'ti Bihi 'In Kun ta Mina A ş -Ş ādiq ī na 026-031* He said: "Bring it, if you a telling the truth!" ق َا لَ فَأْتِ بِهِ إِن ْ كُن ْتَ مِنَ ا ل صّ َادِق ِي نَ Fa'alq á `Aş ā hu Fa'idh ā Hiya Th u`bā nun Mubī nun 026-032* So he cast his staff down and imagine, it was clearly a snake! فَأَلْقَ ى عَص َا ه ُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَا نٌ مُبِي ن ٌ Wa Naza`a Yadahu Fa'idh ā Hiya Bayđā 'u Lilnn āžir ī na 026-033* He pulled out his hand [from his shirtfront], and imagine, it was white to the spectators! (III) وَنَزَعَ يَدَه ُ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيْض َا ءُ لِلنّ َاظِ ر ِي نَ Q ā la Lilmala'i Ĥawlahu 'Inn a Hādh ā Lasāĥir un `Alī mun 026-034* He told the councilmen around him: "This is some clever magician ق َا لَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُ~ ُ إِنّ َ هَذَا لَسَاحِرٌ عَلِي م ٌ Yur ī du 'An Yukh r ijakum Min 'Arđikum Bisiĥr ihi Famādh ā Ta'murū na 026-035* who wants to drive you out of your land through his magic. What do you order?" يُر ِي دُ أَن ْ يُخْ ر ِجَكُم ْ مِنْ أَرْضِ كُم ْ بِسِحْر ِه ِ ِ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُو نَ Q ālū 'Arjihi Wa 'Akh ā hu Wa A b `ath Fī A l-Madā 'ini Ĥāsh ir ī na 026-036* They said: "Make him and his brother wait, and send recruiters out into the cities قَ الُو ا أَرْجِه ِ ِ وَأَخ َا ه ُ وَا ب ْعَثْ فِي ا لْمَدَا ئِنِ حَاشِر ِي نَ Ya'tū ka Bikulli Saĥĥā r in `Alī min 026-037* who will bring you in every clever magician." يَأْتُو كَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّا رٍ عَلِي م ٍ Fajumi`a A s-Saĥara tu Limīq ā ti Yawmin Ma`lū min 026-038* So the magicians were gathered for the appointment on a certain day, فَجُمِعَ ا ل سَّحَرَ ةُ لِمِيق َا تِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُو م ٍ Wa Q ī la Lilnn ā si Hal 'An tum Muj tami`ū na 026-039* and the people were told: "Are you assembling وَق ِي لَ لِلنّ َا سِ هَلْ أَن ْتُم ْ مُج ْتَمِعُو نَ La`allanā Nattabi`u A s-Saĥara ta 'In Kānū Humu A l-Gh ālibī na 026-040* so that we may follow the sorcerers once they have won out?" لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ا ل سَّحَرَ ةَ إِن ْ كَا نُوا هُمُ ا لْغَ الِبِي نَ Falamm ā Jā 'a A s-Saĥara tu Q ālū Lifir `awna 'A'inn a Lanā La'aj rā an 'In Kunn ā Naĥnu A l-Gh ālibī na 026-041* When the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh: "Will we have payment if we are the winners?" فَلَمّ َا جَا ءَ ا ل سَّحَرَ ةُ قَ الُوا لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنّ َ لَنَا لَأَج ْرا ً إِن ْ كُنّ َا نَحْنُ ا لْغَ الِبِي نَ Q ā la Na`am Wa 'Inn akum 'Idh āan Lamina A l-Muq arra bī na 026-042* He said: "Yes, you will then become courtiers." ق َا لَ نَعَمْ وَإِنّ َكُمْ إِذا ً لَمِنَ ا لْمُقَ رَّبِي نَ Q ā la Lahum Mūsá 'Alq ū Mā 'An tum Mulq ū na 026-043* Moses told them: "Throw down whatever you are going to throw.' ق َا لَ لَهُم ْ مُوسَى أَلْقُ وا مَا أَن ْتُم ْ مُلْق ُو نَ Fa'alq aw Ĥibālahum Wa `Iş īyahum Wa Q ālū Bi`izzati Fir `awna 'Inn ā Lanaĥnu A l-Gh ālibū na 026-044* So they threw their ropes and their staffs, and said: " By Pharaoh's majesty, we will be the winners!" ' فَأَلْقَ وْا حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِ يَّهُمْ وَقَ الُوا بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنّ َا لَنَحْنُ ا لْغَ الِبُو نَ Fa'alq á Mūsá `Aş ā hu Fa'idh ā Hiya Talq afu Mā Ya'fikū na 026-045* So Moses cast his staff and imagine, it swallowed up what they were shamming about! فَأَلْقَ ى مُوسَى عَص َا ه ُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَ فُ مَا يَأْفِكُو نَ Fa'ulq iya A s-Saĥara tu Sājidī na 026-046* The sorcerers dropped down on their knees; فَأُلْقِ يَ ا ل سَّحَرَ ةُ سَاجِدِي نَ Q ālū 'Ā mann ā Bira b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-047* they said: "We believe in the Lord of the Universe, قَ الُو ا آمَنّ َا بِرَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Ra b bi Mūsá Wa Hārū na 026-048* the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" رَ بِّ مُوسَى وَهَارُو نَ Q ā la 'Ā man tum Lahu Q ab la 'An 'Ā dh ana Lakum ۖ 'Inn ahu Lakabīru kumu A l-Ladh ī `Allamakumu A s-Siĥra Falasawfa Ta`lamū na ۚ La'uq aţ ţ i`ann a 'Aydiyakum Wa 'Arjulakum Min Kh ilā fin Wa La'uş allibann akum 'Aj ma`ī na 026-049* He said. "Have you believed in Him before I permit you to? He is your chief who has taught you magic. You will know! I'll cut your hands and feet off on opposite sides and crucify you all!" ق َا لَ آمَن ْتُمْ لَه ُ قَ ب ْلَ أَن ْ آذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنّ َه ُ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ا لَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ ا ل سِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُو نَ ۚ لَأُقَ طّ ِعَنّ َ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم ْ مِنْ خِ لاَفٍ وَلَأُصَ لِّبَنّ َكُمْ أَج ْمَعِي نَ Q ālū Lā Đ ayra ۖ 'Inn ā 'Ilá Ra b binā Mun q alibū na 026-050* They said: 'It wont hurt! We will be sent home to our Lord; قَ الُوا لاَ ضَ يْرَ ۖ إِنّ َا إِلَى رَ بِّنَا مُن ْقَ لِبُو نَ 'Inn ā Naţ ma`u 'An Yagh fir a Lanā Ra b bunā Kh aţ āyānā 'An Kunn ā 'Awwala A l-Mu'uminī na 026-051* we long for our Lord to forgive us our mistakes so we may be the first among believers." (IV) إِنّ َا نَط ْمَعُ أَن ْ يَغْ فِر َ لَنَا رَ بُّنَا خَ طَ ايَانَا أَن ْ كُنّ َا أَوَّلَ ا لْمُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'An 'Asr i Bi`ibādī 'Inn akum Muttaba`ū na 026-052* We inspired Moses as follows: "Travel with My servants at night: you will be pursued!" وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْر ِ بِعِبَادِي إِنّ َكُم ْ مُتَّبَعُو نَ Fa'arsala Fir `awnu Fī A l-Madā 'ini Ĥāsh ir ī na 026-053* Pharaoh sent recruiters into the cities: فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي ا لْمَدَا ئِنِ حَاشِر ِي نَ 'Inn a Hā 'uulā ' Lash ir dh imatun Q alīlū na 026-054* "Those are a few dissidents; إِنّ َ هَا ؤُلاَء لَشِرْذِمَة ٌ قَ لِيلُو نَ Wa 'Inn ahum Lanā Lagh ā 'ižū na 026-055* they are agitating against us. وَإِنّ َهُمْ لَنَا لَغ َا ئِظ ُو نَ Wa 'Inn ā Lajamī `un Ĥādh irū na 026-056* We are completely forwarned." وَإِنّ َا لَجَمِي عٌ حَاذِرُو نَ Fa'akh ra j nāhum Min Jann ā tin Wa `Uyū nin 026-057* Yet We drove them out of (their) gardens and springs, فَأَخْ رَ ج ْنَاهُم ْ مِن ْ جَنّ َا تٍ وَعُيُو ن ٍ Wa Kunū zin Wa Maq ā min Kar ī min 026-058* treasures and a splendid position. وَكُنُو زٍ وَمَق َا م ٍ كَر ِي م ٍ Kadh ālika Wa 'Awra th nāhā Banī 'Isrā 'ī la 026-059* The same We let the Children of Israel fall heirs to. كَذَلِكَ وَأَوْرَ ثْنَاهَا بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ Fa'atba`ūhum Mush r iq ī na 026-060* They followed after them at sunrise. فَأَتْبَعُوهُم ْ مُشْر ِق ِي نَ Falamm ā Tarā 'á A l-Jam `ā ni Q ā la 'Aş ĥā bu Mūsá 'Inn ā Lamud ra kū na 026-061* When both groups sighted each other, Moses' companions said: "We have been overtaken!" فَلَمّ َا تَرَا ءَى ا لْجَمْعَا نِ ق َا لَ أَصْ حَا بُ مُوسَى إِنّ َا لَمُد ْرَ كُو نَ Q ā la Kallā ۖ 'Inn a Ma`iya Ra b bī Sayahdī ni 026-062* said: "Not at all! My Lord stands by me; He will guide me!" ق َا لَ كَلاَّ ۖ إِنّ َ مَعِيَ رَ بِّي سَيَهْدِي نِ Fa'awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'Ani A đr ib Bi`aş ā ka A l-Baĥra ۖ Fān falaq a Fakā na Kullu Fir q in Kālţ ţ awdi A l-`Ažī mi 026-063* So We inspired Moses as follows: "Strike the sea with your staff!" If opened up and each section was like a huge cliff. فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنِ ا ضْ ر ِب ْ بِعَص َا كَ ا لْبَحْرَ ۖ فَا ن فَلَقَ فَكَا نَ كُلُّ فِرْق ٍ كَا ل طّ َوْدِ ا لْعَظ ِي مِ Wa 'Azlafnā Th amm a A l-'Ā kh ar ī na 026-064* We brought the others up next, وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمّ َ ا لآخَ ر ِي نَ Wa 'An jaynā Mūsá Wa Man Ma`ahu 'Aj ma`ī na 026-065* and saved Moses and all those who were with him. وَأَن ْجَيْنَا مُوسَى وَمَن ْ مَعَهُ~ ُ أَج ْمَعِي نَ Th umm a 'Agh ra q nā A l-'Ā kh ar ī na 026-066* Then We let the rest drown. ثُمّ َ أَغْ رَ ق ْنَا ا لآخَ ر ِي نَ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-067* In that is a sign; though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-068* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful. Abraham and Idols (V) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Wa A tlu `Alayhim Naba'a 'Ib rā hī ma 026-069* Recite Abraham's news to them وَا تْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِب ْرَ اهِي مَ 'Idh Q ā la Li'abī hi Wa Q awmihi Mā Ta`budū na 026-070* when he said to his father and his folk: "What are you worshipping?" إِذْ ق َا لَ لِأَبِي ه ِ ِ وَقَ وْمِه ِ ِ مَا تَعْبُدُو نَ Q ālū Na`budu 'Aş nāmāan Fanažallu Lahā `Ākifī na 026-071* They said; "We worship idols, and are utterly devoted to them." قَ الُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْ نَاما ً فَنَظَ لُّ لَهَا عَاكِفِي نَ Q ā la Hal Yasma`ūnakum 'Idh Tad `ū na 026-072* He said; "Do they hear you when you call, ق َا لَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَد ْعُو نَ 'Aw Yan fa`ūnakum 'Aw Yađurrū na 026-073* or benefit you or harm [you]?" أَوْ يَن ْفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُ رُّو نَ Q ālū Bal Wajad nā 'Ā bā 'anā Kadh ālika Yaf`alū na 026-074* They said: "Rather we found our fathers doing so." God's Care قَ الُوا بَلْ وَجَد ْنَا آبَا ءَنَا كَذَلِكَ يَفْعَلُو نَ Q ā la 'Afara 'aytum Mā Kun tum Ta`budū na 026-075* He said: "Have you ever seen what you have been worshipping, ق َا لَ أَفَرَ أَيْتُم ْ مَا كُن ْتُمْ تَعْبُدُو نَ 'An tum Wa 'Ā bā 'uukumu A l-'Aq damū na 026-076* you and your forefathers, the oldtimers? أَن ْتُمْ وَآبَا ؤُكُمُ ا لأَق ْدَمُو نَ Fa'inn ahum `Adū wun Lī 'Illā Ra b ba A l-`Ālamī na 026-077* They are enemies of mine, except for the Lord of the Universe فَإِنّ َهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِي إِلاَّ رَ بَّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Al-Ladh ī Kh alaq anī Fahuwa Yahdī ni 026-078* Who created me. He guides me ا لَّذِي خَ لَقَ نِي فَهُوَ يَهْدِي نِ Wa A l-Ladh ī Huwa Yuţ `imunī Wa Yasq ī ni 026-079* and is the One Who feeds me and gives me something to drink. وَا لَّذِي هُوَ يُط ْعِمُنِي وَيَسْق ِي نِ Wa 'Idh ā Mar iđtu Fahuwa Yash fī ni 026-080* Whenever I fall ill, He heals me وَإِذَا مَر ِضْ تُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِي نِ Wa A l-Ladh ī Yumītunī Th umm a Yuĥyī ni 026-081* [He is] the One Who will cause me to die, then bring me back to life [again]; وَا لَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمّ َ يُحْيِي نِ Wa A l-Ladh ī 'Aţ ma`u 'An Yagh fir a Lī Kh aţ ī 'atī Yawma A d -Dī ni 026-082* the One Who I expect will forgive me my mistakes on the Day for Repayment. Abraham's Prayer وَا لَّذِي أَط ْمَعُ أَن ْ يَغْ فِر َ لِي خَ ط ِي ئَتِي يَوْمَ ا ل دِّي نِ Ra b bi Hab Lī Ĥukmāan Wa 'Alĥiq nī Biş -Ş āliĥī na 026-083* "My Lord, bestow discretion on me and acquaint me with honorable men! رَ بِّ هَب ْ لِي حُكْما ً وَأَلْحِق ْنِي بِا ل صّ َالِحِي نَ Wa A j `al Lī Lisā na Ş id q in Fī A l-'Ā kh ir ī na 026-084* Grant me a truthful reputation among later men, وَا ج ْعَل ْ لِي لِسَا نَ صِ د ْق ٍ فِي ا لآخِ ر ِي نَ Wa A j `alnī Min Wara th ati Jann ati A n -Na`ī mi 026-085* Grant me an inheritance in the Garden of Bliss. وَا ج ْعَلْنِي مِن ْ وَرَ ثَةِ جَنّ َةِ ا ل نّ َعِي مِ Wa A gh fir Li'abī 'Inn ahu Kā na Mina A đ-Đ ā llī na 026-086* Forgive my father even though he may be [considered] lost. وَا غْ فِرْ لِأَبِي إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ مِنَ ا ل ضّ َا لِّي نَ Wa Lā Tukh zinī Yawma Yub `ath ū na 026-087* Do not disgrace me on the day they are raised up again, وَلاَ تُخْ زِنِي يَوْمَ يُب ْعَثُو نَ Yawma Lā Yan fa`u Mā lun Wa Lā Banū na 026-088* the day when neither wealth nor children will benefit anyone يَوْمَ لاَ يَن ْفَعُ مَا لٌ وَلاَ بَنُو نَ 'Illā Man 'Atá A l-Laha Biq albin Salī min 026-089* except for someone who comes to God with a sound heart." Doomsday إِلاَّ مَنْ أَتَى ا ل لَّهَ بِقَ لْب ٍ سَلِي م ٍ Wa 'Uzlifati A l-Jann atu Lilmuttaq ī na 026-090* The Garden will be brought near for those who did their duty; وَأُزْلِفَتِ ا لْجَنّ َةُ لِلْمُتَّق ِي نَ Wa Burr izati A l-Jaĥī mu Lilgh āwī na 026-091* while Hades will appear for the straying وَبُرِّزَتِ ا لْجَحِي مُ لِلْغَ اوِي نَ Wa Q ī la Lahum 'Ayna Mā Kun tum Ta`budū na 026-092* and someone will say to them: "Where is whatever you were serving وَق ِي لَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُن ْتُمْ تَعْبُدُو نَ Min Dū ni A l-Lahi Hal Yan ş urūnakum 'Aw Yan taş irū na 026-093* instead of God? Will they support you, or even support themselves? مِن ْ دُو نِ ا ل لَّهِ هَلْ يَن ْصُ رُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَن ْتَصِ رُو نَ Fakub kibū Fīhā Hum Wa A l-Gh āwū na 026-094* So they will be toppled into it, both they and the misguided ones, فَكُب ْكِبُوا فِيهَا هُمْ وَا لْغَ اوُو نَ Wa Junū du 'Ib lī sa 'Aj ma`ū na 026-095* as well as all of Diabolis' armies. وَجُنُو دُ إِب ْلِي سَ أَج ْمَعُو نَ Q ālū Wa Hum Fīhā Yakh taş imū na 026-096* They will say while they quarrel away in it: قَ الُوا وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْ تَصِ مُو نَ Ta-Allā hi 'In Kunn ā Lafī Đ alā lin Mubī nin 026-097* "By God, we were in such obvious error تَاللَّهِ إِن ْ كُنّ َا لَفِي ضَ لاَلٍ مُبِي ن ٍ 'Idh Nusawwīkum Bira b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-098* when we put you (all) on the same footing as the Lord of the Universe! إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم ْ بِرَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Wa Mā 'Ađallanā 'Illā A l-Muj r imū na 026-099* It has only been criminals who have led us astray; وَمَا أَضَ لَّنَا إِلاَّ ا لْمُج ْر ِمُو نَ Famā Lanā Min Sh āfi`ī na 026-100* We have no intercessors فَمَا لَنَا مِن ْ شَافِعِي نَ Wa Lā Ş adī q in Ĥamī min 026-101* nor any bosom friend. وَلاَ صَ دِي قٍ حَمِي م ٍ Falaw 'Ann a Lanā Karra tan Fanakū na Mina A l-Mu'uminī na 026-102* If we had another chance, we would then be believers!" فَلَوْ أَنّ َ لَنَا كَرَّة ً فَنَكُو نَ مِنَ ا لْمُؤْمِنِي نَ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-103* In that is a sign, though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-104* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful. Noah (VI) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Kadh dh abat Q awmu Nūĥin A l-Mursalī na 026-105* Noah 's folk rejected the emissaries كَذَّبَتْ قَ وْمُ نُو ح ٍ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ 'Idh Q ā la Lahum 'Akh ūhum Nūĥun 'Alā Tattaq ū na 026-106* when their brother Noah said to them: "Will you not do your duty? إِذْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ أَخُ وهُمْ نُو حٌ أَلاَ تَتَّق ُو نَ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun 026-107* I am a trustworthy messenger for you, إِنّ ِي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِي ن ٌ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-108* so heed God and obey me. فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in ۖ 'In 'Aj r ī 'Illā `Alá Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-109* I do not ask you for any payment for it; my payment only concerns the Lord of the Universe. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَج ْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَج ْر ِي إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-110* So heed God and obey me!" فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Q ālū 'Anu'uminu Laka Wa A ttaba`aka A l-'Ardh alū na 026-111* They said: "Are we to believe in you while the meanest people follow you?" قَ الُو ا أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَا تَّبَعَكَ ا لأَرْذَلُو نَ Q ā la Wa Mā `Ilmī Bimā Kānū Ya`malū na 026-112* He said: "What knowledge do I have about what they have been doings ق َا لَ وَمَا عِلْمِي بِمَا كَا نُوا يَعْمَلُو نَ 'In Ĥisābuhum 'Illā `Alá Ra b bī ۖ Law Tash `urū na 026-113* Their reckoning only concerns my Lord, if you will only notice it! إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّي ۖ لَوْ تَشْعُرُو نَ Wa Mā 'Anā Biţ ār idi A l-Mu'uminī na 026-114* I do not intend to drive any believers away; وَمَا أَنَا بِطَ ار ِدِ ا لْمُؤْمِنِي نَ 'In 'Anā 'Illā Nadh ī r un Mubī nun 026-115* I am merely a plain warner." إِنْ أَنَا إِلاَّ نَذِي رٌ مُبِي ن ٌ Q ālū La'in Lam Tan tahi Yā Nū ĥu Latakūnann a Mina A l-Marjūmī na 026-116* They said: "If you do not stop, Noah , you will become an outcast." قَ الُوا لَئِن ْ لَمْ تَن ْتَه ِ ِ يَانُو حُ لَتَكُونَنّ َ مِنَ ا لْمَرْجُومِي نَ Q ā la Ra b bi 'Inn a Q awmī Kadh dh abū ni 026-117* He said: "My Lord, my folk have rejected me! ق َا لَ رَ بِّ إِنّ َ قَ وْمِي كَذَّبُو نِ Fāftaĥ Baynī Wa Baynahum Fatĥāan Wa Naj jinī Wa Man Ma`ī Mina A l-Mu'uminī na 026-118* Decide the case between me and them, and rescue me as well as any believers who may be with me!" فَا فْتَحْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحا ً وَنَجِّنِي وَمَن ْ مَعِي مِنَ ا لْمُؤْمِنِي نَ Fa'an jaynā hu Wa Man Ma`ahu Fī A l-Fulki A l-Mash ĥū ni 026-119* So We rescued him and anyone who was with him on the laden ship. فَأَن جَيْنَا ه ُ وَمَن ْ مَعَه ُ فِي ا لْفُلْكِ ا لْمَشْحُو نِ Th umm a 'Agh ra q nā Ba`du A l-Bāq ī na 026-120* Then later on We let those who remained drown. ثُمّ َ أَغْ رَ ق ْنَا بَعْدُ ا لْبَاق ِي نَ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-121* In that is a sign, though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-122* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful! Hud (VII) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Kadh dh abat `Ā dun A l-Mursalī na 026-123* Ad rejected the emissaries كَذَّبَتْ عَا د ٌ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ 'Idh Q ā la Lahum 'Akh ūhum Hū dun 'Alā Tattaq ū na 026-124* when their brother Hud said to them; "Will you not do our duty? إِذْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ أَخُ وهُمْ هُو دٌ أَلاَ تَتَّق ُو نَ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun 026-125* I am a trustworthy messenger for you, إِنّ ِي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِي ن ٌ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-126* so heed God and obey me. فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in ۖ 'In 'Aj r ī 'Illā `Alá Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-127* I do not ask you for any payment for it; my payment only concerns the Lord of the Universe. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَج ْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَج ْر ِي إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ 'Atab nū na Bikulli R ī `in 'Ā yatan Ta`bath ū na 026-128* "Are you building a sign on every hill just so you may fool around? أَتَب ْنُو نَ بِكُلِّ ر ِي ع ٍ آيَة ً تَعْبَثُو نَ Wa Tattakh idh ū na Maş āni`a La`allakum Takh ludū na 026-129* Are you setting up workshops so that you may live for ever? وَتَتَّخِ ذُو نَ مَصَ انِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْ لُدُو نَ Wa 'Idh ā Baţ ash tum Baţ ash tum Jab bār ī na 026-130* Whenever you assault anyone, you pounce on them like bullies. وَإِذَا بَطَ شْتُم ْ بَطَ شْتُمْ جَبَّار ِي نَ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-131* So heed God and obey me; فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa A ttaq ū A l-Ladh ī 'Amad dakum Bimā Ta`lamū na 026-132* heed the One Who has furnished you with whatever you know. وَا تَّقُ وا ا لَّذِي أَمَدَّكُم ْ بِمَا تَعْلَمُو نَ 'Amad dakum Bi'an`ā min Wa Banī na 026-133* He has furnished you with livestock and children, أَمَدَّكُم ْ بِأَنْعَا مٍ وَبَنِي نَ Wa Jann ā tin Wa `Uyū nin 026-134* gardens and springs. وَجَنّ َا تٍ وَعُيُو ن ٍ 'Inn ī 'Akh ā fu `Alaykum `Adh ā ba Yawmin `Ažī min 026-135* Yet I fear the torment of a terrible day for you!" إِنّ ِي أَخ َا فُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَا بَ يَوْمٍ عَظ ِي م ٍ Q ālū Sawā 'un `Alaynā 'Awa`ažta 'Am Lam Takun Mina A l-Wā`ižī na 026-136* They said: "It's all the same for us whether you lecture [us] or are not lecturing. قَ الُوا سَوَا ءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَوَعَظْ تَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن ْ مِنَ ا لْوَاعِظ ِي نَ 'In Hādh ā 'Illā Kh uluq u A l-'Awwalī na 026-137* This is only a fabrication [made up] by primitive men; إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ خُ لُقُ ا لأَوَّلِي نَ Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimu`adh dh abī na 026-138* we are not going to be punished. وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِي نَ Fakadh dh abū hu Fa'ahlaknāhum ۗ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-139* They rejected him, so We wiped them out. In that is a sign; though most of them are not believers. فَكَذَّبُو ه ُ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۗ إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-140* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful!" Salih (VII) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Kadh dh abat Th amū du A l-Mursalī na 026-141* Thamud rejected the emissaries كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُو دُ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ 'Idh Q ā la Lahum 'Akh ūhum Ş āliĥun 'Alā Tattaq ū na 026-142* when their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not do your duty? إِذْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ أَخُ وهُمْ صَ ال ِحٌ أَلاَ تَتَّق ُو نَ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun 026-143* I am a trustworthy messenger for you, إِنّ ِي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِي ن ٌ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-144* so heed God and obey me. فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in ۖ 'In 'Aj r iya 'Illā `Alá Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-145* I do not ask you for any payment for it; my payment only concerns the Lord of the Universe. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَج ْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَج ْر ِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ 'Atutra kū na Fī Mā Hāhunā 'Ā minī na 026-146* "Will you be left securely in what you have here, أَتُتْرَ كُو نَ فِي مَا هَاهُنَا آمِنِي نَ Fī Jann ā tin Wa `Uyū nin 026-147* among gardens and springs, فِي جَنّ َا تٍ وَعُيُو ن ٍ Wa Zurū `in Wa Nakh lin Ţ al`uhā Hađī mun 026-148* crops and datepalms with slender stalks? وَزُرُو عٍ وَنَخْ ل ٍ طَ لْعُهَا هَض ِي م ٌ Wa Tanĥitū na Mina A l-Jibā li Buyūtāan Fār ihī na 026-149* You skillfully hew houses out of the mountains. وَتَنْحِتُو نَ مِنَ ا لْجِبَا لِ بُيُوتا ً فَا ر ِهِي نَ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-150* Heed God and obey me; فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Lā Tuţ ī`ū 'Am ra A l-Musr ifī na 026-151* do not obey the order of extravagant people وَلاَ تُطِ يعُو ا أَمْرَ ا لْمُسْر ِفِي نَ Al-Ladh ī na Yufsidū na Fī A l-'Arđi Wa Lā Yuş liĥū na 026-152* who corrupt [things] on earth and never reform." ا لَّذِي نَ يُفْسِدُو نَ فِي ا لأَرْضِ وَلاَ يُصْ لِحُو نَ Q ālū 'Inn amā 'An ta Mina A l-Musaĥĥar ī na 026-153* They said: "You are merely someone deluded; قَ الُو ا إِنّ َمَا أَن ْتَ مِنَ ا لْمُسَحَّر ِي نَ Mā 'An ta 'Illā Bash aru n Mith lunā Fa'ti Bi'ā yatin 'In Kun ta Mina A ş -Ş ādiq ī na 026-154* you are only a human being like ourselves! Bring a sign if you are so truthful." مَا أَن ْتَ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَة ٍ إِن ْ كُن ْتَ مِنَ ا ل صّ َادِق ِي نَ Q ā la Hadh ihi Nāq atun Lahā Sh ir bun Wa Lakum Sh ir bu Yawmin Ma`lū min 026-155* He said: "This is a she-camel. She has drinking rights while you have drinking rights on a fixed day. ق َا لَ هَذِه ِ ِ نَاقَ ة ٌ لَهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُو م ٍ Wa Lā Tamassūhā Bisū 'in Faya'kh udh akum `Adh ā bu Yawmin `Ažī min 026-156* Do not touch her so that you hurt her, lest the torment of an awful day may seize you!" وَلاَ تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُو ء ٍ فَيَأْخُ ذَكُمْ عَذَا بُ يَوْمٍ عَظ ِي م ٍ Fa`aq arūhā Fa'aş baĥū Nādimī na 026-157* Yet they mistreated her, and one morning they felt remorseful about it. فَعَقَ رُوهَا فَأَصْ بَحُوا نَادِمِي نَ Fa'akh adh ahumu A l-`Adh ā bu ۗ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-158* Torment overtook them. In that is a sign, though most of them are not believers. فَأَخَ ذَهُمُ ا لْعَذَا بُ ۗ إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-159* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful. Lot (IX) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Kadh dh abat Q awmu Lūţ in A l-Mursalī na 026-160* Lot 's folk rejected the emissaries كَذَّبَتْ قَ وْمُ لُو ط ٍ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ 'Idh Q ā la Lahum 'Akh ūhum Lūţ un 'Alā Tattaq ū na 026-161* when their brother Lot said to them: "Will you not do your duty? إِذْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ أَخُ وهُمْ لُو طٌ أَلاَ تَتَّق ُو نَ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun 026-162* I am a trustworthy messenger [sent] to you, إِنّ ِي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِي ن ٌ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-163* so heed God and obey me. فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in ۖ 'In 'Aj r iya 'Illā `Alá Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-164* I do not ask you any payment for it; my payment only concerns the Lord of the Universe. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَج ْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَج ْر ِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ 'Ata'tū na A dh -Dh ukrā na Mina A l-`Ālamī na 026-165* Do you approach males among [everyone in] the Universe, أَتَأْتُو نَ ا ل ذُّكْرَا نَ مِنَ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Wa Tadh arū na Mā Kh alaq a Lakum Ra b bukum Min 'Azwājikum ۚ Bal 'An tum Q awmun `Ādū na 026-166* and ignore any wives whom your Lord has created for you? Indeed you are such defiant folk!" وَتَذَرُو نَ مَا خَ لَقَ لَكُمْ رَ بُّكُم ْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُم ْ ۚ بَلْ أَن ْتُمْ قَ وْمٌ عَادُو نَ Q ālū La'in Lam Tan tahi Yā Lū ţ u Latakūnann a Mina A l-Mukh ra jī na 026-167* They said; "If you do not stop, Lot , you will become an exile." قَ الُوا لَئِن ْ لَمْ تَن ْتَه ِ ِ يَا لُو طُ لَتَكُونَنّ َ مِنَ ا لْمُخْ رَ جِي نَ Q ā la 'Inn ī Li`amalikum Mina A l-Q ālī na 026-168* He said: "I am someone who detests your behavior. ق َا لَ إِنّ ِي لِعَمَلِكُم ْ مِنَ ا لْقَ الِي نَ Ra b bi Naj jinī Wa 'Ahlī Mimm ā Ya`malū na 026-169* My Lord, save me and my family from what they are doing!" رَ بِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمّ َا يَعْمَلُو نَ Fanaj jaynā hu Wa 'Ahlahu 'Aj ma`ī na 026-170* So We saved him and his whole family فَنَجَّيْنَا ه ُ وَأَهْلَهُ~ ُ أَج ْمَعِي نَ 'Illā `Ajūzāan Fī A l-Gh ābir ī na 026-171* except for an old woman among those who stayed behind. إِلاَّ عَجُوزا ً فِي ا لْغَ ابِر ِي نَ Th umm a Damm arnā A l-'Ā kh ar ī na 026-172* Then We annihilated the rest; ثُمّ َ دَمّ َرْنَا ا لآخَ ر ِي نَ Wa 'Am ţ arnā `Alayhim Maţ arā an ۖ Fasā 'a Maţ aru A l-Mun dh ar ī na 026-173* We sent a rain down upon them. How evil was such a rain for those who had been warned! وَأَمْطَ رْنَا عَلَيْهِم ْ مَطَ را ً ۖ فَسَا ءَ مَطَ رُ ا لْمُن ذَر ِي نَ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-174* In that is a sign; though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-175* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful. Shuayb (X) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Kadh dh aba 'Aş ĥā bu A l-'Aykati A l-Mursalī na 026-176* The dwellers in the Forest rejected the emissaries كَذَّبَ أَصْ حَا بُ ا لأَيْكَةِ ا لْمُرْسَلِي نَ 'Idh Q ā la Lahum Sh u`aybun 'Alā Tattaq ū na 026-177* when Shuayb said to them: "Will you not perform your duty? إِذْ ق َا لَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلاَ تَتَّق ُو نَ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun 026-178* I am a trustworthy messenger [sent] to you, إِنّ ِي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِي ن ٌ Fā ttaq ū A l-Laha Wa 'Aţ ī`ū ni 026-179* so heed God and obey me! فَا تَّقُ وا ا ل لَّهَ وَأَطِ يعُو نِ Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Aj r in ۖ 'In 'Aj r iya 'Illā `Alá Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-180* I do not ask you for any payment for it; my payment only concerns the Lord of the Universe. وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَج ْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَج ْر ِيَ إِلاَّ عَلَى رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ 'Awfū A l-Kayla Wa Lā Takūnū Mina A l-Mukh sir ī na 026-181* "Give full measure and do not cause [people] any losses. أَوْفُوا ا لْكَيْلَ وَلاَ تَكُونُوا مِنَ ا لْمُخْ سِر ِي نَ Wa Zinū Bil-Q isţ ā si A l-Mustaq ī mi 026-182* Weigh with honest scales; وَزِنُوا بِا لْقِ سْط َا سِ ا لْمُسْتَق ِي مِ Wa Lā Tab kh asū A n -Nā sa 'Ash yā 'ahum Wa Lā Ta`th aw Fī A l-'Arđi Mufsidī na 026-183* do not undersell people to cheat them of their things nor storm around the earth in order to spoil matters. وَلاَ تَب ْخَ سُوا ا ل نّ َا سَ أَشْيَا ءَهُمْ وَلاَ تَعْثَوْا فِي ا لأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِي نَ Wa A ttaq ū A l-Ladh ī Kh alaq akum Wa A l-Jibillata A l-'Awwalī na 026-184* Heed Him Who created you and the character of the earliest men." وَا تَّقُ وا ا لَّذِي خَ لَقَ كُمْ وَا لْجِبِلَّةَ ا لأَوَّلِي نَ Q ālū 'Inn amā 'An ta Mina A l-Musaĥĥar ī na 026-185* They said: "You are merely someone bewitched. قَ الُو ا إِنّ َمَا أَن ْتَ مِنَ ا لْمُسَحَّر ِي نَ Wa Mā 'An ta 'Illā Bash aru n Mith lunā Wa 'In Nažunn uka Lamina A l-Kādh ibī na 026-186* You are only a human being like ourselves, and we think you are a liar. وَمَا أَن ْتَ إِلاَّ بَشَرٌ مِثْلُنَا وَإِن ْ نَظُ نّ ُكَ لَمِنَ ا لْكَاذِبِي نَ Fa'asq iţ `Alaynā Kisafāan Mina A s-Samā 'i 'In Kun ta Mina A ş -Ş ādiq ī na 026-187* Let a piece fall out of the sky on us if you are so truthful." فَأَسْقِ ط ْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفا ً مِنَ ا ل سَّمَا ءِ إِن ْ كُن ْتَ مِنَ ا ل صّ َادِق ِي نَ Q ā la Ra b bī 'A`lamu Bimā Ta`malū na 026-188* He said: "My Lord is quite Aware of what you are doing." ق َا لَ رَ بِّي أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُو نَ Fakadh dh abū hu Fa'akh adh ahum `Adh ā bu Yawmi A ž-Ž ullati ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na `Adh ā ba Yawmin `Ažī min 026-189* So they rejected him, and the torment of a gloomy day gripped them; it was the torment of a terrible day! فَكَذَّبُو ه ُ فَأَخَ ذَهُمْ عَذَا بُ يَوْمِ ا ل ظّ ُلَّةِ ۚ إِنّ َه ُ كَا نَ عَذَا بَ يَوْمٍ عَظ ِي مٍ 'Inn a Fī Dh ālika La'ā yatan ۖ Wa Mā Kā na 'Akth aru hum Mu'uminī na 026-190* In that is a sign, though most of them are not believers. إِنّ َ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَة ً ۖ وَمَا كَا نَ أَكْثَرُهُم ْ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Wa 'Inn a Ra b baka Lahuwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu 026-191* Yet your Lord is the Powerful, the Merciful! (XI) وَإِنّ َ رَ بَّكَ لَهُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّحِي مُ Wa 'Inn ahu Latan zī lu Ra b bi A l-`Ālamī na 026-192* It is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe. وَإِنّ َه ُ لَتَن ْزِي لُ رَ بِّ ا لْعَالَمِي نَ Nazala Bihi A r-Rū ĥu A l-'Amī nu 026-193* The Faithful Spirit has brought it down نَزَلَ بِهِ ا ل رُّو حُ ا لأَمِي نُ `Alá Q albika Litakū na Mina A l-Mun dh ir ī na 026-194* for your heart, so may be a warner عَلَى قَ لْبِكَ لِتَكُو نَ مِنَ ا لْمُن ذِر ِي نَ Bilisā nin `Ara bī yin Mubī nin 026-195* in a clear Arabic tongue. بِلِسَا نٍ عَرَ بِيٍّ مُبِي ن ٍ Wa 'Inn ahu Lafī Zubur i A l-'Awwalī na 026-196* It [can be found] in the Psalms of early men. وَإِنّ َه ُ لَفِي زُبُر ِ ا لأَوَّلِي نَ 'Awalam Yakun Lahum 'Ā yatan 'An Ya`lamahu `Ulamā 'u Banī 'Isrā 'ī la 026-197* Do they not have a sign since the scholars Children of Israel knew about it? أَوَلَمْ يَكُن ْ لَهُمْ آيَةً أَن ْ يَعْلَمَه ُ عُلَمَا ءُ بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ Wa Law Nazzalnā hu `Alá Ba`đi A l-'A`jamī na 026-198* If We had sent it down to some outsider وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَا ه ُ عَلَى بَعْضِ ا لأَعْجَمِي نَ Faq ara 'ahu `Alayhim Mā Kānū Bihi Mu'uminī na 026-199* and he had read it to them, they would never have believed in it. فَقَ رَ أَه ُ عَلَيْهِم ْ مَا كَا نُوا بِه ِ ِ مُؤْمِنِي نَ Kadh ālika Salaknā hu Fī Q ulū bi A l-Muj r imī na 026-200* Despite that, We slip it into criminals' hearts. كَذَلِكَ سَلَكْنَا ه ُ فِي قُ لُو بِ ا لْمُج ْر ِمِي نَ Lā Yu'uminū na Bihi Ĥattá Yara w A l-`Adh ā ba A l-'Alī ma 026-201* They will not believe in it until they see painful torment; لاَ يُؤْمِنُو نَ بِه ِ ِ حَتَّى يَرَ وْا ا لْعَذَا بَ ا لأَلِي مَ Faya'tiyahum Bagh tatan Wa Hum Lā Yash `urū na 026-202* it will come upon them suddenly while they least suspect it, فَيَأْتِيَهُم ْ بَغْ تَة ً وَهُمْ لاَ يَشْعُرُو نَ Fayaq ūlū Hal Naĥnu Mun žarū na 026-203* and so they say: "Will we be allowed to wait?" فَيَقُ ولُوا هَلْ نَحْنُ مُن ظَ رُو نَ 'Afabi`adh ābinā Yasta`jilū na 026-204* Are they trying to hasten up Our torment? أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُو نَ 'Afara 'ayta 'In Matta`nāhum Sinī na 026-205* Have you seen how We let them enjoy themselves for years, أَفَرَ أَيْتَ إِن ْ مَتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِي نَ Th umm a Jā 'ahum Mā Kānū Yū`adū na 026-206* then whatever they have been threatened with, comes to them? ثُمّ َ جَا ءَهُم ْ مَا كَا نُوا يُوعَدُو نَ Mā 'Agh n á `Anhum Mā Kānū Yumatta`ū na 026-207* Whatever they have been enjoying will never benefit them. Devils are Helpless مَا أَغْ نَى عَنْهُم ْ مَا كَا نُوا يُمَتَّعُو نَ Wa Mā 'Ahlaknā Min Q aryatin 'Illā Lahā Mun dh irū na 026-208* We never wipe out any town unless it has had its warners وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِن ْ قَ رْيَة ٍ إِلاَّ لَهَا مُن ذِرُو نَ Dh ikrá Wa Mā Kunn ā Ž ālimī na 026-209* to remind [it]. We have never been unfair. ذِكْرَ ى وَمَا كُنّ َا ظَ ال ِمِي نَ Wa Mā Tanazzalat Bihi A sh -Sh ayāţ ī nu 026-210* The devils did not descend with it: وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ ا ل شَّيَاط ِي نُ Wa Mā Yan bagh ī Lahum Wa Mā Yastaţ ī`ū na 026-211* it does not suit them to, nor can they manage it; وَمَا يَن ْبَغِ ي لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِ يعُو نَ 'Inn ahum `Ani A s-Sam `i Lama`zūlū na 026-212* they are too withdrawn to even hear it. إِنّ َهُمْ عَنِ ا ل سَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُو نَ Falā Tad `u Ma`a A l-Lahi 'Ilahāan 'Ā kh ara Fatakū na Mina A l-Mu`adh dh abī na 026-213* Do not appeal to any other deity along with God, lest you be tormented. فَلاَ تَد ْعُ مَعَ ا ل لَّهِ إِلَها ً آخَ رَ فَتَكُو نَ مِنَ ا لْمُعَذَّبِي نَ Wa 'An dh ir `Ash īra taka A l-'Aq ra bī na 026-214* Warn your nearest kinfolk; وَأَن ذِرْ عَشِيرَ تَكَ ا لأَق ْرَ بِي نَ Wa A kh fiđ Janāĥaka Limani A ttaba`aka Mina A l-Mu'uminī na 026-215* lower your [protecting] wing over any believers who may follow you. وَا خْ فِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ ا تَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ا لْمُؤْمِنِي نَ Fa'in `Aş awka Faq ul 'Inn ī Bar ī 'un Mimm ā Ta`malū na 026-216* I opposed to you, then SAY: "I am innocent of whatever doing." فَإِنْ عَصَ وْكَ فَقُ لْ إِنّ ِي بَر ِي ءٌ مِمّ َا تَعْمَلُو نَ Wa Tawakkal `Alá A l-`Azī zi A r-Ra ĥī mi 026-217* Rely on the Powerful, the Merciful وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ا لْعَزِي زِ ا ل رَّحِي مِ Al-Ladh ī Yarā ka Ĥī na Taq ū mu 026-218* Who sees you whenever you stand up [in prayer] ا لَّذِي يَرَا كَ حِي نَ تَق ُو مُ Wa Taq allubaka Fī A s-Sājidī na 026-219* as well as how you move around among those who are bowing down on their knees. وَتَقَ لُّبَكَ فِي ا ل سَّاجِدِي نَ 'Inn ahu Huwa A s-Samī `u A l-`Alī mu 026-220* He is the Alert, Aware. The Poets Themselves إِنّ َه ُ هُوَ ا ل سَّمِي عُ ا لْعَلِي مُ Hal 'Unab bi'ukum `Alá Man Tanazzalu A sh -Sh ayāţ ī nu 026-221* Shall I tell you who are the ones on whom the devils descend? هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَى مَن ْ تَنَزَّلُ ا ل شَّيَاط ِي نُ Tanazzalu `Alá Kulli 'Affā kin 'Ath ī min 026-222* They come down upon every bluffing sinner. تَنَزَّلُ عَلَى كُلِّ أَفَّا كٍ أَثِي م ٍ Yulq ū na A s-Sam `a Wa 'Akth aru hum Kādh ibū na 026-223* They even try to eavesdrop, since most of them are liars; يُلْق ُو نَ ا ل سَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَا ذِبُو نَ Wa A sh -Sh u`arā 'u Yattabi`uhumu A l-Gh āwū na 026-224* and poets are followed around by them bewildered. وَا لشُّعَرَا ءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ ا لْغَ اوُو نَ 'Alam Tará 'Ann ahum Fī Kulli Wā din Yahīmū na 026-225* Do you not see them staggering around in every river-valley? أَلَمْ تَرَ ى أَنّ َهُمْ فِي كُلِّ وَا دٍ يَهِيمُو نَ Wa 'Ann ahum Yaq ūlū na Mā Lā Yaf`alū na 026-226* They preach what they never practise, وَأَنّ َهُمْ يَقُ ولُو نَ مَا لاَ يَفْعَلُو نَ 'Illā A l-Ladh ī na 'Ā manū Wa `Amilū A ş -Ş āliĥā ti Wa Dh akarū A l-Laha Kath īrā an Wa A n taş arū Min Ba`di Mā Ž ulimū ۗ Wa Saya`lamu A l-Ladh ī na Ž alamū 'Ayya Mun q alabin Yan q alibū na 026-227* except for those who believe and perform honorable deeds, remember God often, and protect themselves once they have been wronged. Those who do wrong shall know what sort of upsets they may expect to face! إِلاَّ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا ا ل صّ َالِحَا تِ وَذَكَرُوا ا ل لَّهَ كَثِيرا ً وَا ن تَصَ رُوا مِن ْ بَعْدِ مَا ظُ لِمُوا ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ ا لَّذِي نَ ظَ لَمُو ا أَيَّ مُن قَ لَبٍ يَن قَ لِبُو نَ Next Sūrah
