Nūn Wa A l-Qalami Wa Mā Yasţurū na
068-001. Noon. I swear by the pen and what the angels write,
نُون وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُو نَ
Mā 'An ta Bini`mati Rabbika Bimaj nū nin
068-002. By the grace of your Lord you are not mad.
مَا أَن ْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَج ْنُو ن ٍ
Wa 'Inn a Laka La'aj rāan Gh ayra Mam nū nin
068-003. And most surely you shall have a reward never to be cut off.
وَإِنّ َ لَكَ لَأَج ْراً غَيْرَ مَمْنُو ن ٍ
Wa 'Inn aka La`alá Kh uluqin `Ažī min
068-004. And most surely you conform (yourself) to sublime morality.
وَإِنّ َكَ لَعَلى خُلُقٍ عَظِي م ٍ
Fasatub şiru Wa Yub şirū na
068-005. So you shall see, and they (too) shall see,
فَسَتُب ْصِر ُ وَيُب ْصِرُو نَ
Bi'ayyyikumu A l-Maftū nu
068-006. Which of you is afflicted with madness.
بِأَيّيِكُمُ ا لْمَفْتُو نُ
'Inn a Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bil-Muhtadī na
068-007. Surely your Lord best knows him who errs from His way, and He best knows the followers of the right course.
إِنّ َ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ْ ضَلَّ عَن ْ سَبِيلِه ِ ِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِا لْمُهْتَدِي نَ
Falā Tuţi`i A l-Mukadh dh ibī na
068-008. So do not yield to the rejecters.
فَلاَ تُطِعِ ا لْمُكَذِّبِي نَ
Wa Ddū Law Tud /hinu Fayud /hinū na
068-009. They wish that you should be pliant so they (too) would be pliant.
وَدُّوا لَوْ تُد ْهِنُ فَيُد ْهِنُو نَ
Wa Lā Tuţi` Kulla Ĥallā fin Mahī nin
068-010. And yield not to any mean swearer
وَلاَ تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلاَّف ٍ مَهِي ن ٍ
Hamm ā zin Mash sh ā 'in Binamī min
068-011. Defamer, going about with slander
هَمّ َا ز ٍ مَشَّا ء ٍ بِنَمِي م ٍ
Mann ā `in Lilkh ayr i Mu`tadin 'Ath ī min
068-012. Forbidder of good, outstepping the limits, sinful,
مَنّ َا ع ٍ لِلْخَيْر ِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِي م ٍ
`Utullin Ba`da Dh ālika Zanī min
068-013. Ignoble, besides all that, base-born;
عُتُلّ ٍ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ زَنِي م ٍ
'An Kā na Dh ā Mā lin Wa Banī na
068-014. Because he possesses wealth and sons.
أَن ْ كَا نَ ذَا مَا ل ٍ وَبَنِي نَ
'Idh ā Tutlá `Alayhi 'Ā yātunā Qā la 'Asāţī r u A l-'Awwalī na
068-015. When Our communications are recited to him, he says: Stories of those of yore.
إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَا لَ أَسَاطِي ر ُ ا لأَوَّلِي نَ
Sanasimuhu `Alá A l-Kh urţū mi
068-016. We will brand him on the nose.
سَنَسِمُه ُ ُ عَلَى ا لْخُرْطُو مِ
'Inn ā Balawnāhum Kamā Balawnā 'Aşĥā ba A l-Jann ati 'Idh 'Aq samū Layaşr imunn ahā Muşbiĥī na
068-017. Surely We will try them as We tried the owners of the garden, when they swore that they would certainly cut off the produce in the morning,
إِنّ َا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَا بَ ا لْجَنّ َةِ إِذْ أَق ْسَمُوا لَيَصْر ِمُنّ َهَا مُصْبِحِي نَ
Wa Lā Yastath nū na
068-018. And were not willing to set aside a portion (for the poor).
وَلاَ يَسْتَثْنُو نَ
Faţā fa `Alayhā Ţā 'ifun Min Rabbika Wa Hum Nā 'imū na
068-019. Then there encompassed it a visitation from your Lord while they were sleeping.
فَطَا فَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِف ٌ مِن ْ رَبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُو نَ
Fa'aşbaĥat Kālşşar ī mi
068-020. So it became as black, barren land.
فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَا ل صَّر ِي مِ
Fatanādaw Muşbiĥī na
068-021. And they called out to each other in the morning,
فَتَنَادَوا مُصْبِحِي نَ
'Ani A gh dū `Alá Ĥarth ikum 'In Kun tum Şār imī na
068-022. Saying: Go early to your tilth if you would cut (the produce).
أَنِ ا غْدُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِن ْ كُن تُمْ صَار ِمِي نَ
Fān ţalaqū Wa Hum Yatakh āfatū na
068-023. So they went, while they consulted together secretly,
فَان طَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُو نَ
'An Lā Yad kh ulann ahā A l-Yawma `Alaykum Miskī nun
068-024. Saying: No poor man shall enter it today upon you.
أَن ْ لاَ يَد ْخُلَنّ َهَا ا لْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُم ْ مِسْكِي ن ٌ
Wagh adaw `Alá Ĥardin Qādir ī na
068-025. And in the morning they went, having the power to prevent.
وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْد ٍ قَادِر ِي نَ
Falamm ā Ra'awhā Qālū 'Inn ā Lađā llū na
068-026. But when they saw it, they said: Most surely we have gone astray
فَلَمّ َا رَأَوْهَا قَال ُو ا إِنّ َا لَضَا لُّو نَ
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmū na
068-027. Nay! we are made to suffer privation.
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُو نَ
Qā la 'Awsaţuhum 'Alam 'Aqul Lakum Lawlā Tusabbiĥū na
068-028. The best of them said: Did I not say to you, Why do you not glorify (Allah)?
قَا لَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُل ْ لَكُمْ لَوْلاَ تُسَبِّحُو نَ
Qālū Sub ĥā na Rabbinā 'Inn ā Kunn ā Žālimī na
068-029. They said: Glory be to our Lord, surely we were unjust.
قَالُوا سُب ْحَا نَ رَبِّنَا إِنّ َا كُنّ َا ظَال ِمِي نَ
Fa'aq bala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatalāwamū na
068-030. Then some of them advanced against others, blaming each other.
فَأَق ْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْض ٍ يَتَلاَوَمُو نَ
Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Inn ā Kunn ā Ţāgh ī na
068-031. Said they: O woe to us! surely we were inordinate:
قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنّ َا كُنّ َا طَاغِي نَ
`Asá Rabbunā 'An Yub dilanā Kh ayrāan Minhā 'Inn ā 'Ilá Rabbinā Rāgh ibū na
068-032. Maybe, our Lord will give us instead one better than it; surely to our Lord do we make our humble petition.
عَسَى رَبُّنَا أَن ْ يُب ْدِلَنَا خَيْرا ً مِنْهَا إِنّ َا إِلَى رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُو نَ
Kadh ālika A l-`Adh ā bu Wa La`adh ā bu A l-'Ā kh irati 'Akbaru Law Kānū Ya`lamū na
068-033. Such is the chastisement, and certainly the chastisement of the hereafter is greater, did they but know!
كَذَلِكَ ا لْعَذَا بُ وَلَعَذَا بُ ا لآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَا نُوا يَعْلَمُو نَ
'Inn a Lilmuttaqī na `In da Rabbihim Jann ā ti A n -Na`ī mi
068-034. Surely those who guard (against evil) shall have with their Lord gardens of bliss.
إِنّ َ لِلْمُتَّقِي نَ عِن ْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنّ َا تِ ا ل نّ َعِي مِ
'Afanaj `alu A l-Muslimī na Kālmuj r imī na
068-035. What! shall We then make (i.e. treat) those who submit as the guilty?
أَفَنَج ْعَلُ ا لْمُسْلِمِي نَ كَا لْمُج ْر ِمِي نَ
Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumū na
068-036. What has happened to you? How do you judge?
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُو نَ
'Am Lakum Kitā bun Fī hi Tad rusū na
068-037. Or have you a book wherein you read,
أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَا ب ٌ فِي ه ِ ِ تَد ْرُسُو نَ
'Inn a Lakum Fī hi Lamā Takh ayyarū na
068-038. That you have surely therein what you choose?
إِنّ َ لَكُمْ فِي ه ِ ِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُو نَ
'Am Lakum 'Aymā nun `Alaynā Bāligh atun 'Ilá Yawmi A l-Qiyāmati 'Inn a Lakum Lamā Taĥkumū na
068-039. Or have you received from Us an agreement confirmed by an oath extending to the day of resurrection that you shall surely have what you demand?
أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَا نٌ عَلَيْنَا بَال ِغَة ٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ ا لْقِيَامَةِ إِنّ َ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُو نَ
Salhum 'Ayyuhum Bidh ālika Za`ī mun
068-040. Ask them which of them will vouch for that,
سَلْهُم أَيُّهُم ْ بِذَلِكَ زَعِي م ٌ
'Am Lahum Sh urakā 'u Falya'tū Bish urakā 'ihim 'In Kānū Şādiqī na
068-041. Or have.they associates if they are truthful.
أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَا ءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِن ْ كَا نُوا صَادِقِي نَ
Yawma Yuksh afu `An Sā qin Wa Yud `awna 'Ilá A s-Sujū di Falā Yastaţī`ū na
068-042. On the day when there shall be a severe affliction, and they shall be called upon to make obeisance, but they shall not be able,
يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَن ْ سَا ق ٍ وَيُد ْعَوْنَ إِلَى ا ل سُّجُو دِ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُو نَ
Kh āsh i`atan 'Ab şāruhum Tarhaquhum Dh illatun Wa Qad Kānū Yud `awna 'Ilá A s-Sujū di Wa Hum Sālimū na
068-043. Their looks cast down, abasement shall overtake them; and they were called upon to make obeisance indeed while yet they were safe.
خَاشِعَةً أَب ْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّة ٌ وَقَد ْ كَا نُوا يُد ْعَوْنَ إِلَى ا ل سُّجُو دِ وَهُمْ سَال ِمُو نَ
Fadh arnī Wa Man Yukadh dh ibu Bihadh ā A l-Ĥadīth i Sanastad r ijuhum Min Ĥayth u Lā Ya`lamū na
068-044. So leave Me and him who rejects this announcement; We will overtake them by degrees, from whence they perceive not:
فَذَرْنِي وَمَن ْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا ا لْحَدِي ثِ سَنَسْتَد ْر ِجُهُم ْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُو نَ
Wa 'Um lī Lahum 'Inn a Kaydī Matī nun
068-045. And I do bear with them, surely My plan is firm.
وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ إِنّ َ كَيْدِي مَتِي ن ٌ
'Am Tas'aluhum 'Aj rāan Fahum Min Magh ramin Muth qalū na
068-046. Or do you ask from them a reward, so that they are burdened with debt?
أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَج ْرا ً فَهُم ْ مِن ْ مَغْرَم ٍ مُثْقَلُو نَ
'Am `In dahumu A l-Gh aybu Fahum Yaktubū na
068-047. Or have they (the knowledge of) the unseen, so that they write (it) down?
أَمْ عِن ْدَهُمُ ا لْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُو نَ
Fāşbir Liĥukmi Rabbika Wa Lā Takun Kaşāĥibi A l-Ĥū ti 'Idh Nādá Wa Huwa Makžū mun
068-048. So wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, and be not like the companion of the fish, when he cried while he was in distress.
فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلاَ تَكُن ْ كَصَاحِبِ ا لْحُو تِ إِذْ نَادَى وَهُوَ مَكْظُو م ٌ
Lawlā 'An Tadārakahu Ni`matun Min Rabbihi Lanubidh a Bil-`Arā 'i Wa Huwa Madh mū mun
068-049. Were it not that favor from his Lord had overtaken him, he would certainly have been cast down upon the naked Found while he was blamed.
لَوْلاَ أَن ْ تَدَارَكَه ُ ُ نِعْمَة ٌ مِن ْ رَبِّه ِ ِ لَنُبِذَ بِا لْعَرَا ءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُو م ٌ
Fāj tabā hu Rabbuhu Faja`alahu Mina A ş-Şāliĥī na
068-050. Then his Lord chose him, and He made him of the good.
فَاج ْتَبَا ه ُ ُ رَبُّه ُ ُ فَجَعَلَه ُ ُ مِنَ ا ل صَّالِحِي نَ
Wa 'In Yakā du A l-Ladh ī na Kafarū Layuzliqūnaka Bi'ab şār ihim Lamm ā Sami`ū A dh -Dh ikra Wa Yaqūlū na 'Inn ahu Lamaj nū nun
068-051. And those who disbelieve would almost smite you with their eyes when they hear the reminder, and they say: Most surely he is mad.
وَإِن ْ يَكَا دُ ا لَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَب ْصَار ِهِمْ لَمّ َا سَمِعُوا ا ل ذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُو نَ إِنّ َه ُ ُ لَمَج ْنُو ن ٌ
Wa Mā Huwa 'Illā Dh ikrun Lil`ālamī na
068-052. And it is naught but a reminder to the nations.
وَمَا هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْر ٌ لِلْعَالَمِي نَ
