Ĥā-Mīm
Hā-Mīm. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ān and none but Allāh (Alone) knows their meanings]. (Ad-Dukhan 44:1)
حَا-مِيم
Wa A l-Kitā bi A l-Mubī ni
By the manifest Book (this Qur'ān) that makes things clear, (Ad-Dukhan 44:2)
وَالْكِتَا بِ ا لْمُبِينِ
'Inn ā 'An zalnā hu Fī Laylatin Mubāra katin ۚ 'Inn ā Kunn ā Mun dh ir ī na
We sent it (this Qur'ān) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Sûrah No: 97) in the month of Ramadān,, the 9th month of the Islāmic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. (Ad-Dukhan 44:3)
إِنَّ ا أَن زَلْنَا هُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَ كَةٍ ۚ إِنَّ ا كُنَّ ا مُن ذِر ِينَ
Fīhā Yufra q u Kullu 'Am r in Ĥakī min
Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. (Ad-Dukhan 44:4)
فِيهَا يُفْرَ قُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ
'Am rā an Min `In dinā ۚ 'Inn ā Kunn ā Mursilī na
Amran (i.e. a Command or this Qur'an or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), (Ad-Dukhan 44:5)
أَمْرا ً مِن ْ عِنْ دِنَا ۚ إِنَّ ا كُنَّ ا مُرْسِلِينَ
Ra ĥmatan Min Ra bbika ۚ 'Inn ahu Huwa A s-Samī `u A l-`Alī mu
(As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Ad-Dukhan 44:6)
رَ حْمَة ً مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ ۚ إِنَّ هُ هُوَ ا ل سَّمِي عُ ا لْعَلِيمُ
Ra bbi A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā ۖ 'In Kun tum Mūq inī na
The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. (Ad-Dukhan 44:7)
رَ بِّ ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ إِن ْ كُنْ تُمْ مُوقِ نِينَ
Lā 'Ilā ha 'Illā Huwa Yuĥyī Wa Yumī tu ۖ Ra bbukum Wa Ra bbu 'Ābā 'ikumu A l-'Awwalī na
Lā ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. (Ad-Dukhan 44:8)
لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ يُحْيِي وَيُمِي تُ ۖ رَ بُّكُمْ وَرَ بُّ آبَا ئِكُمُ ا لأَوَّلِينَ
Bal Hum Fī Sh akkin Yal`abū na
Nay! They play in doubt. (Ad-Dukhan 44:9)
بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ
Fārtaq ib Yaw ma Ta'tī A s-Samā 'u Bidukh ā nin Mubī nin
Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. (Ad-Dukhan 44:10)
فَارْتَقِ ب ْ يَوْ مَ تَأْتِي ا ل سَّمَا ءُ بِدُخَ ا نٍ مُبِينٍ
Yagh sh á A n -Nā sa ۖ Hādh ā `Adh ā bun 'Alī mun
Covering the people, this is a painful torment. (Ad-Dukhan 44:11)
يَغْ شَى ا ل نّ َا سَ ۖ هَذَا عَذَا بٌ أَلِيمٌ
Ra bbanā A ksh if `Ann ā A l-`Adh ā ba 'Inn ā Mu'uminū na
(They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" (Ad-Dukhan 44:12)
رَ بَّنَا ا كْشِفْ عَنَّ ا ا لْعَذَا بَ إِنَّ ا مُؤْمِنُونَ
'Ann á Lahumu A dh -Dh ikrá Wa Q ad Jā 'ahum Ra sū lun Mubī nun
How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. (Ad-Dukhan 44:13)
أَنَّ ى لَهُمُ ا ل ذِّكْرَ ى وَقَ د ْ جَا ءَهُمْ رَ سُو لٌ مُبِينٌ
Th umm a Tawallaw `Anhu Wa Q ālū Mu`allamun Maj nū nun
Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" (Ad-Dukhan 44:14)
ثُمّ َ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْ هُ وَقَ الُوا مُعَلَّمٌ مَجْ نُونٌ
'Inn ā Kāsh ifū A l-`Adh ā bi Q alīlāan ۚ 'Inn akum `Ā 'idū na
Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. (Ad-Dukhan 44:15)
إِنَّ ا كَاشِفُوا ا لْعَذَا بِ قَ لِيلا ً ۚ إِنَّ كُمْ عَا ئِدُونَ
Yaw ma Nab ţ ish u A l-Baţ sh ata A l-Kub rá 'Inn ā Mun taq imū na
On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. (Ad-Dukhan 44:16)
يَوْ مَ نَبْ طِ شُ ا لْبَطْ شَةَ ا لْكُبْ رَ ى إِنَّ ا مُن تَقِ مُونَ
Wa Laq ad Fatann ā Q ab lahum Q aw ma Fir `aw na Wa Jā 'ahum Ra sū lun Kar ī mun
And indeed We tried before them Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, when there came to them a noble Messenger [i.e. Mûsa (Moses)], (Ad-Dukhan 44:17)
وَلَقَ د ْ فَتَنَّ ا قَ بْ لَهُمْ قَ وْ مَ فِر ْعَوْ نَ وَجَا ءَهُمْ رَ سُو لٌ كَر ِيمٌ
'An 'Addū 'Ilay ya `Ibā da A ll āhi ۖ 'Inn ī Lakum Ra sū lun 'Amī nun
Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allāh (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, (Ad-Dukhan 44:18)
أَن ْ أَدُّو ا إِلَيَّ عِبَا دَ ا للَّ هِ ۖ إِنِّ ي لَكُمْ رَ سُو لٌ أَمِينٌ
Wa 'An Lā Ta`lū `Alá A ll āhi ۖ 'Inn ī 'Ātīkum Bisulţ ā nin Mubī nin
"And exalt not (yourselves) against Allāh. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. (Ad-Dukhan 44:19)
وَأَن ْ لاَ تَعْلُوا عَلَى ا للَّ هِ ۖ إِنِّ ي آتِيكُمْ بِسُلْطَ ا نٍ مُبِينٍ
Wa 'Inn ī `Udh tu Bira bbī Wa Ra bbikum 'An Tarjumū ni
"And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). (Ad-Dukhan 44:20)
وَإِنِّ ي عُذْتُ بِرَ بِّي وَرَ بِّكُمْ أَن ْ تَرْجُمُونِ
Wa 'In Lam Tu'uminū Lī Fā`tazilū ni
"But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." (Ad-Dukhan 44:21)
وَإِن ْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا لِي فَاعْتَزِلُونِ
Fada`ā Ra bbahu~ 'Ann a Hā 'uulā ' Q aw mun Muj r imū na
(But they were aggressive), so he [Mûsa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." (Ad-Dukhan 44:22)
فَدَعَا رَ بَّهُ~ ُ أَنّ َ هَا ؤُلاَء قَ وْ مٌ مُجْ ر ِمُونَ
Fa'asr i Bi`ibādī Laylāan 'Inn akum Muttaba`ū na
(Allāh said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. (Ad-Dukhan 44:23)
فَأَسْر ِ بِعِبَادِي لَيْلا ً إِنَّ كُمْ مُتَّبَعُونَ
Wa A tru ki A l-Baĥra Ra hwan ۖ 'Inn ahum Jun dun Mugh ra q ū na
"And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." (Ad-Dukhan 44:24)
وَاتْرُكِ ا لْبَحْرَ رَ هْوا ً ۖ إِنَّ هُمْ جُن دٌ مُغْ رَ قُ ونَ
Kam Tara kū Min Jann ā tin Wa `Uyū nin
How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. (Ad-Dukhan 44:25)
كَمْ تَرَ كُوا مِن ْ جَنّ َا تٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Wa Zurū `in Wa Maq ā min Kar ī min
And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, (Ad-Dukhan 44:26)
وَزُرُو عٍ وَمَقَ ا مٍ كَر ِيمٍ
Wa Na`matin Kānū Fīhā Fākihī na
And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! (Ad-Dukhan 44:27)
وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا فِيهَا فَاكِهِينَ
Kadh ālika ۖ Wa 'Awra th nāhā Q awmāan 'Ākh ar ī na
Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). (Ad-Dukhan 44:28)
كَذَلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَ ثْنَاهَا قَ وْما ً آخَ ر ِينَ
Famā Bakat `Alayhimu A s-Samā 'u Wa A l-'Arđu Wa Mā Kānū Mun žar ī na
And the heavens and the earth wept not for them , nor were they given a respite. (Ad-Dukhan 44:29)
فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ا ل سَّمَا ءُ وَا لأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا مُن ظَ ر ِينَ
Wa Laq ad Najjaynā Banī 'Isrā 'ī la Mina A l-`Adh ā bi A l-Muhī ni
And indeed We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment, (Ad-Dukhan 44:30)
وَلَقَ د ْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَا ئِي لَ مِنَ ا لْعَذَا بِ ا لْمُهِينِ
Min Fir `aw na ۚ 'Inn ahu Kā na `Ālīāan Mina A l-Musr ifī na
From Fir'aun (Pharaoh); Verily! He was arrogant and was of the Musrifûn (those who transgress beyond bound in spending and other things and commit great sins). (Ad-Dukhan 44:31)
مِن ْ فِر ْعَوْ نَ ۚ إِنَّ هُ كَا نَ عَالِي ا ً مِنَ ا لْمُسْر ِفِينَ
Wa Laq adi A kh tarnāhum `Alá `Ilmin `Alá A l-`Ālamī na
And We chose them (the Children of Israel) above the 'Alamīn (mankind, and jinns) [during the time of Mûsa (Moses)] with knowledge, (Ad-Dukhan 44:32)
وَلَقَ دِ ا خْ تَرْنَاهُمْ عَلَى عِلْمٍ عَلَى ا لْعَالَمِينَ
Wa 'Ātaynāhum Mina A l-'Āyā ti Mā Fī hi Balā 'un Mubī nun
And granted them signs in which there was a plain trial. (Ad-Dukhan 44:33)
وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنَ ا لآيَا تِ مَا فِي هِ بَلاَءٌ مُبِينٌ
'Inn a Hā 'uulā ' Layaq ūlū na
Verily, these (Quraish) people are saying: (Ad-Dukhan 44:34)
إِنّ َ هَا ؤُلاَء لَيَقُ ولُونَ
'In Hiya 'Illā Mawtatunā A l-'Ūlá Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimun sh ar ī na
"There is nothing but our first death, and we shall not be resurrected. (Ad-Dukhan 44:35)
إِن ْ هِيَ إِلاَّ مَوْتَتُنَا ا لأُ ولَى وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُن شَر ِينَ
Fa'tū Bi'ābā 'inā 'In Kun tum Ş ādiq ī na
"Then bring back our fore-fathers, if you speak the truth!" (Ad-Dukhan 44:36)
فَأْتُوا بِآبَا ئِنَا إِن ْ كُن تُمْ صَ ادِقِ ينَ
'Ahum Kh ay ru n 'Am Q aw mu Tubba`in Wa A l-Ladh ī na Min Q ab lihim ۚ 'Ahlaknāhum ۖ 'Inn ahum Kānū Muj r imī na
Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them because they were indeed Mujrimûn (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.). (Ad-Dukhan 44:37)
أَهُمْ خَ يْ رٌ أَمْ قَ وْ مُ تُبَّعٍ وَا لَّذِي نَ مِن ْ قَ بْ لِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هُمْ كَانُوا مُجْ ر ِمِينَ
Wa Mā Kh alaq nā A s-Samāwā ti Wa A l-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Lā`ibī na
And We created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, for mere play, (Ad-Dukhan 44:38)
وَمَا خَ لَقْ نَا ا ل سَّمَاوَا تِ وَا لأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لاَعِبِينَ
Mā Kh alaq nāhumā 'Illā Bil-Ĥaq q i Wa Lakinn a 'Akth ara hum Lā Ya`lamū na
We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. (Ad-Dukhan 44:39)
مَا خَ لَقْ نَاهُمَا إِلاَّ بِا لْحَقِّ وَلَكِنّ َ أَكْثَرَ هُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
'Inn a Yaw ma A l-Faş li Mīq ātuhum 'Aj ma`ī na
Verily, the Day of Judgement (when Allāh will judge between the creatures) is the time appointed for all of them, (Ad-Dukhan 44:40)
إِنّ َ يَوْ مَ ا لْفَصْ لِ مِيقَ اتُهُمْ أَجْ مَعِينَ
Yaw ma Lā Yugh nī Maw lan `An Maw lan Sh ay'ā an Wa Lā Hum Yun ş arū na
The Day when Maulan (a near relative) cannot avail Maulan (a near relative) in aught, and no help can they receive, (Ad-Dukhan 44:41)
يَوْ مَ لاَ يُغْ نِي مَوْلىً عَن ْ مَوْلى ً شَيْ ئا ً وَلاَ هُمْ يُن صَ رُونَ
'Illā Man Ra ĥima A ll āhu ۚ 'Inn ahu Huwa A l-`Azī zu A r-Ra ĥī mu
Except him on whom Allāh has Mercy. Verily, He is the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. (Ad-Dukhan 44:42)
إِلاَّ مَن ْ رَ حِمَ ا للَّ هُ ۚ إِنَّ هُ هُوَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا ل رَّ حِيمُ
'Inn a Sh ajara ta A z-Zaq q ū mi
Verily, the tree of Zaqqûm, (Ad-Dukhan 44:43)
إِنّ َ شَجَرَ ةَ ا ل زَّقُّ ومِ
Ţ a`ā mu A l-'Ath ī mi
Will be the food of the sinners, (Ad-Dukhan 44:44)
طَ عَا مُ ا لأَثِيمِ
Kālmuhli Yagh lī Fī A l-Buţ ū ni
Like boiling oil, it will boil in the bellies, (Ad-Dukhan 44:45)
كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْ لِي فِي ا لْبُطُ ونِ
Kagh alyi A l-Ĥamī mi
Like the boiling of scalding water. (Ad-Dukhan 44:46)
كَغَ لْيِ ا لْحَمِيمِ
Kh udh ū hu Fā`tilū hu 'Ilá Sawā 'i A l-Jaĥī mi
(It will be said) "Seize him and drag him into the midst of blazing Fire, (Ad-Dukhan 44:47)
خُ ذُو هُ فَاعْتِلُو هُ إِلَى سَوَا ءِ ا لْجَحِيمِ
Th umm a Ş ubbū Faw q a Ra 'sihi Min `Adh ā bi A l-Ĥamī mi
"Then pour over his head the torment of boiling water, (Ad-Dukhan 44:48)
ثُمّ َ صُ بُّوا فَوْ قَ رَ أْسِهِ مِن ْ عَذَا بِ ا لْحَمِيمِ
Dh uq 'Inn aka 'An ta A l-`Azī zu A l-Kar ī mu
"Taste you (this)! Verily, you were (pretending to be) the mighty, the generous! (Ad-Dukhan 44:49)
ذُق ْ إِنَّ كَ أَنْ تَ ا لْعَزِي زُ ا لْكَر ِيمُ
'Inn a Hādh ā Mā Kun tum Bihi Tam tarū na
"Verily! This is that whereof you used to doubt!" (Ad-Dukhan 44:50)
إِنّ َ هَذَا مَا كُن تُمْ بِهِ تَمْتَرُونَ
'Inn a A l-Muttaq ī na Fī Maq ā min 'Amī nin
Verily! The Muttaqûn (pious - see V.2:2), will be in place of Security (Paradise). (Ad-Dukhan 44:51)
إِنّ َ ا لْمُتَّقِ ي نَ فِي مَقَ ا مٍ أَمِينٍ
Fī Jann ā tin Wa `Uyū nin
Among Gardens and Springs; (Ad-Dukhan 44:52)
فِي جَنّ َا تٍ وَعُيُونٍ
Yalbasū na Min Sun dusin Wa 'Istab ra q in Mutaq ābilī na
Dressed in fine silk and (also) in thick silk, facing each other, (Ad-Dukhan 44:53)
يَلْبَسُو نَ مِن ْ سُن دُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْ رَ ق ٍ مُتَقَ ابِلِينَ
Kadh ālika Wa Zawwaj nāhum Biĥū r in `Ī nin
So (it will be), and We shall marry them to Houris (female fair ones) with wide, lovely eyes. (Ad-Dukhan 44:54)
كَذَلِكَ وَزَوَّجْ نَاهُمْ بِحُو رٍ عِينٍ
Yad `ū na Fīhā Bikulli Fākihatin 'Āminī na
They will call therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security; (Ad-Dukhan 44:55)
يَد ْعُو نَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَاكِهَةٍ آمِنِينَ
Lā Yadh ūq ū na Fīhā A l-Maw ta 'Illā A l-Mawtata A l-'Ūlá ۖ Wa Waq āhum `Adh ā ba A l-Jaĥī mi
They will never taste death therein except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire, (Ad-Dukhan 44:56)
لاَ يَذُوقُ و نَ فِيهَا ا لْمَوْ تَ إِلاَّ ا لْمَوْتَةَ ا لأُ ولَى ۖ وَوَقَ اهُمْ عَذَا بَ ا لْجَحِيمِ
Fađlāan Min Ra bbika ۚ Dh ālika Huwa A l-Faw zu A l-`Ažī mu
As a Bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme success! (Ad-Dukhan 44:57)
فَضْ لا ً مِن ْ رَ بِّكَ ۚ ذَلِكَ هُوَ ا لْفَوْ زُ ا لْعَظِ يمُ
Fa'inn amā Yassarnā hu Bilisānika La`allahum Yatadh akkarū na
Certainly, We have made this (Qur'ān) easy in your tongue, in order that they may remember. (Ad-Dukhan 44:58)
فَإِنَّ مَا يَسَّرْنَا هُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
Fārtaq ib 'Inn ahum Murtaq ibū na
Wait then (O Muhammad SAW); Verily, they (too) are waiting. (Ad-Dukhan 44:59)
فَارْتَقِ ب ْ إِنَّ هُمْ مُرْتَقِ بُونَ
