'Alam Tará Kayfa Fa`ala Rabbuka Bi'aşĥābi Al-Fīl  | Have you not considered how your Rabb dealt with the Army of the Elephant (reference is made to Abraha, a Christian king of Yaman, who attacked Makkah with the army of elephants in the year of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth)?[105.1] | أَلَمْ تَرَى كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَابِ الْفِيل |
'Alam Yaj`al Kaydahum Fī Tađlīlin  | Did He not make their treacherous plan a flop?[105.2] | أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِيل ٍ |
Wa 'Arsala `Alayhim Ţayrāan 'Abābīla  | And send against them flocks of birds,[105.3] | وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْراً أَبَابِيلَ |
Tarmīhim Biĥijāratin Min Sijjīlin  | which pelted them with stones of baked clay,[105.4] | تَرْمِيهِمْ بِحِجَارَة ٍ مِنْ سِجِّيل ٍ |
Faja`alahum Ka`aşfin Ma'kūlin  | thus rendered them like the chewed-up chaff.[105.5] | فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْف ٍ مَأْكُول ٍ |
