'Alam Tará Kayfa Fa`ala Rabbuka Bi'aşĥā bi A l-Fīl Have you not considered how your Rabb dealt with the Army of the Elephant (reference is made to Abraha, a Christian king of Yaman, who attacked Makkah with the army of elephants in the year of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth)?[105.1] أَلَمْ تَرَى كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَا بِ ا لْفِيل
'Alam Yaj `al Kaydahum Fī Tađlī lin Did He not make their treacherous plan a flop?[105.2] أَلَمْ يَجْ عَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِي تَضْلِي لٍ
Wa 'Arsala `Alayhim Ţayrāan 'Abābī la And send against them flocks of birds,[105.3] وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْراً أَبَابِي لَ
Tarmīhim Biĥijāratin Min Sijjī lin which pelted them with stones of baked clay,[105.4] تَرْمِيهِم ْ بِحِجَارَةٍ مِن ْ سِجِّي لٍ
Faja`alahum Ka`aşfin Ma'kū lin thus rendered them like the chewed-up chaff.[105.5] فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَأْكُو لٍ
