| Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa    | Read! In the name of your Rabb Who created[96.1] | اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ | 
   | Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin    | - created man from a leechlike mass.[96.2] | خَلَقَ الإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ | 
   | Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu    | Read! Your Rabb is the Most Gracious,[96.3] | اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الأَكْرَمُ | 
   | Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami    | Who taught by the Pen,[96.4] | الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ | 
   | `Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam    | taught man what he knew not.[96.5] | عَلَّمَ الإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ | 
   | Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá    | Nay! Indeed, man transgresses all bounds,[96.6] | كَلاَّ إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَيَطْغَى | 
   | 'An Ra'āhu Astaghná    | in thinking himself to be self-sufficient,[96.7] | أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَى | 
   | 'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á    | although surely towards your Rabb is his return.[96.8] | إِنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَى | 
   | 'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá    | Have you seen the one (Abu Jahl) who forbids[96.9] | أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَى | 
   | `Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá    | Our servant from offering Salah (prayer)?[96.10] | عَبْداً إِذَا صَلَّى | 
   | 'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá    | Have you considered, if He was on the right guidance,[96.11] | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَى | 
   | 'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá    | or was enjoining true piety, why he would forbid someone from prayer?[96.12] | أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَى | 
   | 'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá    | Have you considered, if he denies the truth and turns away, what will happen?[96.13] | أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى | 
   | 'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Al-Laha Yará    | Does he not know that Allah is observing all things?[96.14] | أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَى | 
   | Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi    | Nay! Let him know that if he does not stop, We will drag him by the forelock,[96.15] | كَلاَّ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِِ لَنَسْفَعَا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ | 
   | Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin    | a lying, sinful forelock.[96.16] | نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ | 
   | Falyad`u Nādiyah    | So let him call his supporters for help,[96.17] | فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَه | 
   | Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha    | We too shall call the guards of hell to deal with him.[96.18] | سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ | 
   | Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib    | Nay! Do not obey him! Prostrate yourself and bring yourself closer to your Rabb.[96.19] | كَلاَّ لاَ تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ |
