| Lā 'Uqsimu Bihadhā Al-Baladi    | I swear by this city (of Makkah where even to harm anyone is prohibited,[90.1] | لاَ أُقْسِمُ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ | 
   |  Wa 'Anta Ĥillun Bihadhā Al-Baladi    | where to assassinate) you (O Muhammad) have been made lawful in this city,[90.2] | وَأَنْتَ حِلٌّ بِهَذَا الْبَلَدِ | 
   |  Wa Wālidin Wa Mā Walada    | And I swear by your father (Adam) and the children he begot (mankind),[90.3] | وَوَالِدٍ وَمَا وَلَدَ | 
   | Laqad Khalaqnā Al-'Insāna Fī Kabadin    | certainly We have created man to be in stress.[90.4] | لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الإِنسَانَ فِي كَبَدٍ | 
   | 'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lan Yaqdira `Alayhi 'Aĥadun    | Does he think that none has power over him?[90.5] | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَنْ يَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ أَحَدٌ | 
   | Yaqūlu 'Ahlaktu Mālāan Lubadāan    | He may boast: “I have squandered wealth in abundance!”[90.6] | يَقُولُ أَهْلَكْتُ مَالاً لُبَداً | 
   | 'Ayaĥsabu 'An Lam Yarahu 'Aĥadun    | Does he think that no one observes him?[90.7] | أَيَحْسَبُ أَنْ لَمْ يَرَهُ~ُ أَحَدٌ | 
   | 'Alam Naj`al Lahu `Aynayni    | Have We not given him two eyes to observe?[90.8] | أَلَمْ نَجْعَلْ لَهُُعَيْنَيْنِ | 
   |  Wa Lisānāan Wa Shafatayni    | One tongue and two lips to control it?[90.9] | وَلِسَاناً وَشَفَتَيْنِ | 
   |  Wa Hadaynāhu An-Najdayni    | Then shown him the two high ways (good leading towards paradise and evil leading towards hell)?[90.10] | وَهَدَيْنَاهُ النَّجْدَيْنِ | 
   | Falā Aqtaĥama Al-`Aqabaha    | Yet he does not attempt to tackle the Aqabah (steep path)![90.11] | فَلاَ اقْتَحَمَ الْعَقَبَةَ | 
   |  Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Al-`Aqabahu    | And what will explain to you what the Aqabah is?[90.12] | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ | 
   | Fakku Raqabahin    | It is the freeing of a neck (slave) from bondage;[90.13] | فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ | 
   | 'Aw 'Iţ`āmun Fī Yawmin Dhī Masghabahin    | or the giving of food in a day of famine[90.14] | أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ | 
   | Yatīmāan Dhā Maqrabahin    | to an orphan relative,[90.15] | يَتِيماً ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ | 
   | 'Aw Miskīnāan Dhā Matrabahin    | or to a needy in distress;[90.16] | أَوْ مِسْكِيناً ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ | 
   | Thumma Kāna Mina Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa Tawāşaw Biş-Şabri Wa Tawāşaw Bil-Marĥamahi    | besides this, he should be of those who believe, enjoin fortitude, encourage kindness and compassion.[90.17] | ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ | 
   | 'Ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi    | Such are the people of the right hand (going towards paradise).[90.18] | أُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ | 
   | Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Bi'āyātinā Hum 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi    | But those who disbelieve Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand (going towards hell),[90.19] | وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ | 
   | `Alayhim Nārun Mu'uşadahun    | having fire all around them.[90.20] | عَلَيْهِمْ نَارٌ مُؤصَدَةٌ |
