| Wa As-Samā'i Dhāti Al-Burūji | By the heaven and its constellations![85.1] | وَالسَّمَاءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوجِ |
| Wa Al-Yawmi Al-Maw`ūdi | By the promised Day of Judgment![85.2] | وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ |
| Wa Shāhidin Wa Mash/hūdin | By the witnesses and that which is being witnessed![85.3] | وَشَاهِد ٍ وَمَشْهُود ٍ |
| Qutila 'Aşĥābu Al-'Ukhdūdi | Doomed be the makers of the ditch,[85.4] | قُتِلَ أَصْحَابُ الأُخْدُودِ |
| An-Nāri Dhāti Al-Waqūdi | who lit the fuel-fed fire[85.5] | النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُودِ |
| 'Idh Hum `Alayhā Qu`ūdun | and sat around it,[85.6] | إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُود ٌ |
| Wa Hum `Alá Mā Yaf`alūna Bil-Mu'uminīna Shuhūdun | to watch what they were doing to the believers.[85.7] | وَهُمْ عَلَى مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُود ٌ |
| Wa Mā Naqamū Minhum 'Illā 'An Yu'uminū Bil-Lahi Al-`Azīzi Al-Ĥamīdi | They tortured them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, the Praise Worthy,[85.8] | وَمَا نَقَمُوا مِنْهُمْ إِلاَّ أَنْ يُؤْمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَمِيدِ |
| Al-Ladhī Lahu Mulku As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Shahīdun | the One to Whom belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and earth, and Allah is Witness to all things.[85.9] | الَّذِي لَه ُُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء ٍ شَهِيد ٌ |
| 'Inna Al-Ladhīna Fatanū Al-Mu'uminīna Wa Al-Mu'umināti Thumma Lam Yatūbū Falahum `Adhābu Jahannama Wa Lahum `Adhābu Al-Ĥarīqi | Those who persecute the believing men and believing women and do not repent, shall receive the punishment of hell, wherein they shall have the punishment of conflagration.[85.10] | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيقِ |
| 'Inna Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Lahum Jannātun Tajrī Min Taĥtihā Al-'Anhāru Dhālika Al-Fawzu Al-Kabīru | As for those who believe and do good deeds, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow; which will be the greatest success.[85.11] | إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّات ٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيرُ |
| 'Inna Baţsha Rabbika Lashadīdun | Surely, the seizure of your Rabb is very severe.[85.12] | إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيد ٌ |
| 'Innahu Huwa Yubdi'u Wa Yu`īdu | Surely, He it is Who originates the creation of everything, and He it is Who will repeat it on the Day of Resurrection.[85.13] | إِنَّه ُُ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ |
| Wa Huwa Al-Ghafūru Al-Wadūdu | He is the Forgiving, the Loving,[85.14] | وَهُوَ الْغَفُورُ الْوَدُودُ |
| Dhū Al-`Arshi Al-Majīdu | the Owner of the Throne, the Glorious[85.15] | ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ |
| Fa``ālun Limā Yurīdu | and the executor of His own will.[85.16] | فَعَّال ٌ لِمَا يُرِيدُ |
| Hal 'Atāka Ĥadīthu Al-Junūdi | Have you not heard the story of the warriors[85.17] | هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْجُنُودِ |
| Fir`awna Wa Thamūda | of Fir'on (Pharaoh) and of Thamüd?[85.18] | فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ |
| Bali Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fī Takdhībin | Yet the unbelievers persist in denying the truth,[85.19] | بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي تَكْذِيب ٍ |
| Wa Allāhu Min Warā'ihim Muĥīţun | although Allah has encircled them from all around.[85.20] | وَاللَّهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ مُحِيط ٌ |
| Bal Huwa Qur'ānun Majīdun | Surely this is a Glorious Qur’an,[85.21] | بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآن ٌ مَجِيد ٌ |
| Fī Lawĥin Maĥfūžin | inscribed on an Imperishable Tablet.[85.22] | فِي لَوْح ٍ مَحْفُوظ ٍ |
