Yā  'Ayyuhā A l-Muddath th ir u       O Muddaththir (the one enveloped - one of the nicknames of Prophet Muhammad)![74.1]   يَاأَيُّهَا ا لْمُدَّثِّر ُ  
   Qum  Fa'an dh ir      Stand up and warn.[74.2]   قُمْ فَأَن ذِرْ   
    Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir      Proclaim the greatness of your Rabb,[74.3]   وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ   
    Wa Th iyābaka Faţahhir      purify your clothes,[74.4]   وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ   
   Wa A r-Ruj za Fāhjur      keep yourself away from uncleanliness,[74.5]   وَالرُّجْ زَ فَا هْجُرْ   
    Wa Lā Tam nun  Tastakth ir u       do not favor others to expect a gain,[74.6]   وَلاَ تَمْنُن ْ تَسْتَكْثِر ُ  
    Wa Lirabbika Fāşbir      and be patient for the sake of your Rabb.[74.7]   وَلِرَبِّكَ فَا   
   Fa'idh ā Nuqira Fī A n -Nāqū r i       When the Trumpet will be sounded,[74.8]   فَإِذَا نُقِر َ فِي ا ل نَّ اقُو ر ِ   
   Fadh ālika Yawma'idh in  Yawmun `Asī r un       that Day will be a very difficult Day,[74.9]   فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ  يَوْمٌ عَسِي رٌ    
   `Alá A l-Kāfir ī na Gh ayru Yasī r  in       not easy for the disbelievers.[74.10]   عَلَى ا لْكَافِر ِي نَ غَيْرُ يَسِي رٍ    
   Dh arnī Wa Man Kh alaq tu Waĥīdāan      Leave Me and the one (Walïd bin Mughïrah, a staunch opponent of the Prophet) whom I created, alone.[74.11]   ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْ تُ وَحِيداً   
    Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan  Mam dūdāan       I gave him abundant resources,[74.12]   وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُُمَالاً  مَمْدُوداً   
    Wa Banī na Sh uhūdāan       thriving sons,[74.13]   وَبَنِي نَ شُهُوداً   
    Wa Mahhad tu Lahu  Tam hīdāan       and made his life smooth and comfortable.[74.14]   وَمَهَّد ْتُ لَهُُتَمْهِيداً   
   Th umm a Yaţ ma`u 'An 'Azī d a      Yet he hopes that I shall give him more.[74.15]   ثُمّ َ يَطْ مَعُ أَنْ أَزِي د َ   
   Kallā  'Inn ahu Kā na Li'yātinā `Anīdāan       By no means! Because he has stubbornly denied Our revelations.[74.16]   كَلاَّ إِنَّ هُُكَا نَ لِأيَاتِنَا عَنِيداً   
   Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdāan       Soon I shall make him suffer mounting calamities,[74.17]   سَأُرْهِقُهُُصَعُوداً   
   'Inn ahu  Fakkara Wa Qaddara       surely he pondered and devised a plot.[74.18]   إِنَّ هُُفَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ   
   Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara       May he perish, how he plotted![74.19]   فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ   
   Th umm a Qutila Kayfa Qaddara      Again, may he perish, how he plotted![74.20]   ثُمّ َ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ   
   Th umm a Nažara      He looked around,[74.21]   ثُمّ َ نَظَرَ   
   Th umm a `Abasa Wa Basara      frowned and scowled,[74.22]   ثُمّ َ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ   
   Th umm a 'Ad bara Wa A a      then he turned his back in scornful pride[74.23]   ثُمّ َ أَد ْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ   
   Faqā la 'In Hādh ā  'Illā Siĥrun  Yu'uth aru       and said: “This is nothing but a magic from the old,[74.24]   فَقَا لَ إِنْ هَذَا  إِلاَّ سِحْرٌ  يُؤْثَرُ   
   'In Hādh ā  'Illā Qawlu A l-Bash ar i       this is nothing but the word of a human being."[74.25]   إِنْ هَذَا  إِلاَّ قَوْلُ ا لْبَشَر ِ   
   Sa'uşlī hi  Saqara       Soon I shall cast him into Saqar.[74.26]   سَأُصْلِي هِِ سَقَرَ   
    Wa Mā  'Ad rā ka Mā Saqaru       What will make you understand, what Saqar is?[74.27]   وَمَا  أَد ْرَا كَ مَا سَقَرُ   
   Lā Tub qī Wa Lā Tadh aru       It is burning fire which leaves nothing and spares none.[74.28]   لاَ تُبْ قِي وَلاَ تَذَرُ   
   Lawwāĥatun  Lilbash ar i       It shrivels human flesh.[74.29]   لَوَّاحَة ٌ  لِلْبَشَر ِ   
   `Alayhā Tis`ata `Ash ara       It is guarded by nineteen guards.[74.30]   عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ   
    Wa Mā Ja`alnā  'Aşĥā ba A n -Nā r i 'Illā Malā 'ikatan  Wa Mā Ja`alnā `Iddatahum  'Illā Fitnatan  Lilladh ī na Kafarū Liyastayqina A l-Ladh ī na 'Ū tū A l-Kitā ba Wa Yazdā da A l-Ladh ī na 'Ā manū  'Ī mānāan  Wa Lā Yartā ba A l-Ladh ī na 'Ū tū A l-Kitā ba Wa A l-Mu'uminū na Wa Liyaqū la A l-Ladh ī na Fī Qulūbihim  Marađun  Wa A l-Kāfirū na Mādh ā  'Arā da A l-Lahu  Bihadh ā Math alāan  Kadh ālika Yuđillu A l-Lahu  Man  Yash ā 'u Wa Yahdī Man  Yash ā 'u Wa Mā Ya`lamu Junū da Rabbika 'Illā Huwa  Wa Mā Hiya 'Illā Dh ikrá Lilbash ar i       We have appointed none but angels as wardens of the fire; and We have made their number a trial for the unbelievers, so that the People of the Book may be convinced and the faith of the true believers may be increased, and that no doubts will be left for the People of the Book and the believers, and that those in whose hearts there is a disease and the disbelievers may say: “What could Allah mean by this parable?” Thus, Allah leaves to stray whom He wills and guides whom He pleases. No one knows the forces of your Rabb except Himself, and this (Qur'an) is nothing but a reminder to mankind.[74.31]   وَمَا جَعَلْنَا  أَصْحَا بَ ا ل نّ َا ر ِ إِلاَّ مَلاَئِكَةً  وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلاَّ فِتْنَة ً  لِلَّذِي نَ كَفَرُوا  لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ا لَّذِي نَ أُ وتُوا  ا لْكِتَا بَ وَيَزْدَا دَ ا لَّذِي نَ آمَنُو ا  إِيمَان اً  وَلاَ يَرْتَا بَ ا لَّذِي نَ أُ وتُوا  ا لْكِتَا بَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُو نَ وَلِيَقُو لَ ا لَّذِي نَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم ْ مَرَضٌ  وَالْكَافِرُو نَ مَاذَا  أَرَا دَ ا ل لَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلاً كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ ا ل لَّهُ مَن ْ يَشَا ءُ وَيَهْدِي مَن ْ يَشَا ءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُو دَ رَبِّكَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَر ِ   
   Kallā Wa A l-Qamar i       Nay! By the moon,[74.32]   كَلاَّ وَالْقَمَر ِ   
   Wa A l-Layli 'Idh  'Ad bara       by the departing night[74.33]   وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَد ْبَرَ   
   Wa A ş-Şub ĥi 'Idh ā  'Asfara       and by the coming of dawn,[74.34]   وَالصُّبْ حِ إِذَا  أَسْفَرَ   
   'Inn ahā La'iĥdá A l-Kubar i       surely this hellfire is one of mighty scourge,[74.35]   إِنَّ هَا لَإِحْدَى ا لْكُبَر ِ   
   Nadh īrāan  Lilbash ar i       a warning to mankind;[74.36]   نَذِيراً  لِلْبَشَر ِ   
   Liman  Sh ā 'a Min kum  'An  Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akh kh ara       to any of you who chooses to go forward or to lag behind.[74.37]   لِمَن ْ شَا ءَ مِنْ كُمْ أَن ْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ   
   Kullu Nafsin   Bimā Kasabat Rahīnah un       Every soul is held in pledge for its deeds,[74.38]   كُلُّ نَفْسٍ  بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ   
   'Illā  'Aşĥā ba A l-Yamī ni       except the people of the right hand,[74.39]   إِلاَّ أَصْحَا بَ ا لْيَمِي نِ   
   Fī Jann ā tin  Yatasā 'alū na       who shall be in paradise. They will ask[74.40]   فِي جَنّ َا تٍ  يَتَسَاءَلُو نَ   
   `Ani A l-Muj r imī na       from the culprits:[74.41]   عَنِ ا لْمُجْ ر ِمِي نَ   
   Mā Salakakum  Fī Saqara       “What brought you into hell?”[74.42]   مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ   
   Qālū Lam  Naku Mina A l-Muşallī na       They will answer: “We did not use to offer the Salah (prayers),[74.43]   قَالُوا  لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ا لْمُصَلِّي نَ   
    Wa Lam  Naku Nuţ `imu A l-Miskī na       we did not use to feed the poor,[74.44]   وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْ عِمُ ا لْمِسْكِي نَ   
    Wa Kunn ā Nakh ū đu Ma`a A l-Kh ā 'iđī na       we used to join those who wasted their time in vain talk,[74.45]   وَكُنَّ ا نَخُو ضُ مَعَ ا لْخَائِضِي نَ   
    Wa Kunn ā Nukadh dh ibu Biyawmi A d-Dī ni       and we used to deny the Day of Judgment,[74.46]   وَكُنَّ ا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ا ل دِّي نِ   
   Ĥattá  'Atānā A l-Yaqī nu       until death overtook us."[74.47]   حَتَّى  أَتَانَا ا لْيَقِي نُ   
   Famā Tan fa`uhum  Sh afā`atu A sh -Sh āfi`ī na       On that Day, no intercession of any intercessors shall profit them.[74.48]   فَمَا تَنْ فَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ ا ل شَّافِعِي نَ   
   Famā Lahum  `Ani A t-Tadh kirati Mu`r iđī na       Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from this admonition?[74.49]   فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ا ل تَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْر ِضِي نَ   
   Ka'ann ahum  Ĥumurun  Mustan firah un       Like frightened donkeys[74.50]   كَأَنَّ هُمْ حُمُرٌ  مُسْتَنْ فِرَةٌ   
   Farrat Min  Qaswarah in       fleeing from a lion.[74.51]   فَرَّتْ مِن ْ قَسْوَرَةٍ    
   Bal Yur ī du Kullu A m r i'in  Minhum  'An  Yu'utá Şuĥufāan  Munash sh arah an       Nay, each of them wants a scripture of his own to be unrolled before him.[74.52]   بَلْ يُر ِي دُ كُلُّ ا ر ِئٍ  مِنْهُمْ أَن ْ يُؤْتَى صُحُفاً  مُنَشَّرَةً   
   Kallā Bal  Lā Yakh āfū na A l-'Ā kh irah a       But no! The fact is that they do not fear the Hereafter.[74.53]   كَلاَّ بَل ْ لاَ يَخَافُو نَ ا لآخِرَةَ   
   Kallā  'Inn ahu  Tadh kirah un       But no! Surely this Qur’an is an admonition.[74.54]   كَلاَّ إِنَّ هُُتَذْكِرَةٌ   
   Faman  Sh ā 'a Dh akarahu       Let him who wills take heed.[74.55]   فَمَن ْ شَا ءَ ذَكَرَهُ   
    Wa Mā Yadh kurū na 'Illā  'An  Yash ā 'a A l-Lahu  Huwa 'Ahlu A t-Taq wá Wa 'Ahlu A l-Magh firah i       But none takes heed except by the will of Allah. He Alone is worthy to be feared and He Alone is worthy to forgive those who fear Him.[74.56]   وَمَا يَذْكُرُو نَ إِلاَّ أَن ْ يَشَا ءَ ا ل لَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ ا ل تَّقْ وَى وَأَهْلُ ا لْمَغْفِرَةِ
