74) Sūrat Al-Muddaththir | Printed format | 74) سُورَة المُدَّثِّر |
| Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Muddaththiru | O Muddaththir (the one enveloped - one of the nicknames of Prophet Muhammad)![74.1] | يَاأَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ |
| Qum Fa'andhir | Stand up and warn.[74.2] | قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ |
| Wa Rabbaka Fakabbir | Proclaim the greatness of your Rabb,[74.3] | وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ |
| Wa Thiyābaka Faţahhir | purify your clothes,[74.4] | وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ |
| Wa Ar-Rujza Fāhjur | keep yourself away from uncleanliness,[74.5] | وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ |
| Wa Lā Tamnun Tastakthiru | do not favor others to expect a gain,[74.6] | وَلاَ تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ |
| Wa Lirabbika Fāşbir | and be patient for the sake of your Rabb.[74.7] | وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ |
| Fa'idhā Nuqira Fī An-Nāqūri | When the Trumpet will be sounded,[74.8] | فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ |
| Fadhālika Yawma'idhin Yawmun `Asīrun | that Day will be a very difficult Day,[74.9] | فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ |
| `Alá Al-Kāfirīna Ghayru Yasīrin | not easy for the disbelievers.[74.10] | عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ |
| Dharnī Wa Man Khalaqtu Waĥīdāan | Leave Me and the one (Walïd bin Mughïrah, a staunch opponent of the Prophet) whom I created, alone.[74.11] | ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيداً |
| Wa Ja`altu Lahu Mālāan Mamdūdāan | I gave him abundant resources,[74.12] | وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُُمَالاً مَمْدُوداً |
| Wa Banīna Shuhūdāan | thriving sons,[74.13] | وَبَنِينَ شُهُوداً |
| Wa Mahhadtu Lahu Tamhīdāan | and made his life smooth and comfortable.[74.14] | وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُُتَمْهِيداً |
| Thumma Yaţma`u 'An 'Azīda | Yet he hopes that I shall give him more.[74.15] | ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ |
| Kallā 'Innahu Kāna Li'yātinā `Anīdāan | By no means! Because he has stubbornly denied Our revelations.[74.16] | كَلاَّ إِنَّهُُكَانَ لِأيَاتِنَا عَنِيداً |
| Sa'urhiquhu Şa`ūdāan | Soon I shall make him suffer mounting calamities,[74.17] | سَأُرْهِقُهُُصَعُوداً |
| 'Innahu Fakkara Wa Qaddara | surely he pondered and devised a plot.[74.18] | إِنَّهُُفَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ |
| Faqutila Kayfa Qaddara | May he perish, how he plotted![74.19] | فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| Thumma Qutila Kayfa Qaddara | Again, may he perish, how he plotted![74.20] | ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ |
| Thumma Nažara | He looked around,[74.21] | ثُمَّ نَظَرَ |
| Thumma `Abasa Wa Basara | frowned and scowled,[74.22] | ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ |
| Thumma 'Adbara Wa Astakbara | then he turned his back in scornful pride[74.23] | ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ |
| Faqāla 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Yu'utharu | and said: “This is nothing but a magic from the old,[74.24] | فَقَالَ إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ |
| 'In Hādhā 'Illā Qawlu Al-Bashari | this is nothing but the word of a human being."[74.25] | إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ |
| Sa'uşlīhi Saqara | Soon I shall cast him into Saqar.[74.26] | سَأُصْلِيهِِ سَقَرَ |
| Wa Mā 'Adrāka Mā Saqaru | What will make you understand, what Saqar is?[74.27] | وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ |
| Lā Tubqī Wa Lā Tadharu | It is burning fire which leaves nothing and spares none.[74.28] | لاَ تُبْقِي وَلاَ تَذَرُ |
| Lawwāĥatun Lilbashari | It shrivels human flesh.[74.29] | لَوَّاحَة ٌ لِلْبَشَرِ |
| `Alayhā Tis`ata `Ashara | It is guarded by nineteen guards.[74.30] | عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ |
| Wa Mā Ja`alnā 'Aşĥāba An-Nāri 'Illā Malā'ikatan Wa Mā Ja`alnā `Iddatahum 'Illā Fitnatan Lilladhīna Kafarū Liyastayqina Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Yazdāda Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Īmānāan Wa Lā Yartāba Al-Ladhīna 'Ūtū Al-Kitāba Wa Al-Mu'uminūna Wa Liyaqūla Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Wa Al-Kāfirūna Mādhā 'Arāda Al-Lahu Bihadhā Mathalāan Kadhālika Yuđillu Al-Lahu Man Yashā'u Wa Yahdī Man Yashā'u Wa Mā Ya`lamu Junūda Rabbika 'Illā Huwa Wa Mā Hiya 'Illā Dhikrá Lilbashari | We have appointed none but angels as wardens of the fire; and We have made their number a trial for the unbelievers, so that the People of the Book may be convinced and the faith of the true believers may be increased, and that no doubts will be left for the People of the Book and the believers, and that those in whose hearts there is a disease and the disbelievers may say: “What could Allah mean by this parable?” Thus, Allah leaves to stray whom He wills and guides whom He pleases. No one knows the forces of your Rabb except Himself, and this (Qur'an) is nothing but a reminder to mankind.[74.31] | وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلاَّ مَلاَئِكَةً وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلاَّ فِتْنَة ً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَاناً وَلاَ يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا مَثَلاً كَذَلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَمَا هِيَ إِلاَّ ذِكْرَى لِلْبَشَرِ |
| Kallā Wa Al-Qamari | Nay! By the moon,[74.32] | كَلاَّ وَالْقَمَرِ |
| Wa Al-Layli 'Idh 'Adbara | by the departing night[74.33] | وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ |
| Wa Aş-Şubĥi 'Idhā 'Asfara | and by the coming of dawn,[74.34] | وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ |
| 'Innahā La'iĥdá Al-Kubari | surely this hellfire is one of mighty scourge,[74.35] | إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ |
| Nadhīrāan Lilbashari | a warning to mankind;[74.36] | نَذِيراً لِلْبَشَرِ |
| Liman Shā'a Minkum 'An Yataqaddama 'Aw Yata'akhkhara | to any of you who chooses to go forward or to lag behind.[74.37] | لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ |
| Kullu Nafsin Bimā Kasabat Rahīnahun | Every soul is held in pledge for its deeds,[74.38] | كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ |
| 'Illā 'Aşĥāba Al-Yamīni | except the people of the right hand,[74.39] | إِلاَّ أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ |
| Fī Jannātin Yatasā'alūna | who shall be in paradise. They will ask[74.40] | فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ |
| `Ani Al-Mujrimīna | from the culprits:[74.41] | عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ |
| Mā Salakakum Fī Saqara | “What brought you into hell?”[74.42] | مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ |
| Qālū Lam Naku Mina Al-Muşallīna | They will answer: “We did not use to offer the Salah (prayers),[74.43] | قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ |
| Wa Lam Naku Nuţ`imu Al-Miskīna | we did not use to feed the poor,[74.44] | وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ |
| Wa Kunnā Nakhūđu Ma`a Al-Khā'iđīna | we used to join those who wasted their time in vain talk,[74.45] | وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ |
| Wa Kunnā Nukadhdhibu Biyawmi Ad-Dīni | and we used to deny the Day of Judgment,[74.46] | وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ |
| Ĥattá 'Atānā Al-Yaqīnu | until death overtook us."[74.47] | حَتَّى أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ |
| Famā Tanfa`uhum Shafā`atu Ash-Shāfi`īna | On that Day, no intercession of any intercessors shall profit them.[74.48] | فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ |
| Famā Lahum `Ani At-Tadhkirati Mu`riđīna | Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from this admonition?[74.49] | فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ |
| Ka'annahum Ĥumurun Mustanfirahun | Like frightened donkeys[74.50] | كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ |
| Farrat Min Qaswarahin | fleeing from a lion.[74.51] | فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ |
| Bal Yurīdu Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yu'utá Şuĥufāan Munashsharahan | Nay, each of them wants a scripture of his own to be unrolled before him.[74.52] | بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَى صُحُفاً مُنَشَّرَةً |
| Kallā Bal Lā Yakhāfūna Al-'Ākhiraha | But no! The fact is that they do not fear the Hereafter.[74.53] | كَلاَّ بَلْ لاَ يَخَافُونَ الآخِرَةَ |
| Kallā 'Innahu Tadhkirahun | But no! Surely this Qur’an is an admonition.[74.54] | كَلاَّ إِنَّهُُتَذْكِرَةٌ |
| Faman Shā'a Dhakarahu | Let him who wills take heed.[74.55] | فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ |
| Wa Mā Yadhkurūna 'Illā 'An Yashā'a Al-Lahu Huwa 'Ahlu At-Taqwá Wa 'Ahlu Al-Maghfirahi | But none takes heed except by the will of Allah. He Alone is worthy to be feared and He Alone is worthy to forgive those who fear Him.[74.56] | وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلاَّ أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَى وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ |
