Nūn Wa Al-Qalami Wa Mā Yasţurūna | Nün. By the pen and what they write.[68.1] |
Mā 'Anta Bini`mati Rabbika Bimajnūnin | By the grace of your Rabb you are not a madman,[68.2] |
Wa 'Inna Laka La'ajrāan Ghayra Mamnūnin | and you shall have a never ending reward.[68.3] |
Wa 'Innaka La`alá Khuluqin `Ažīmin | You are of the highest noble character.[68.4] |
Fasatubşiru Wa Yubşirūna | Soon you will see - as they will see[68.5] | فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ |
Bi'ayyyikumu Al-Maftūnu | - which of you is afflicted with madness.[68.6] |
'Inna Rabbaka Huwa 'A`lamu Biman Đalla `An Sabīlihi Wa Huwa 'A`lamu Bil-Muhtadīna | Surely it is your Rabb Who knows those who have strayed from His Way, as He knows best those who are rightly guided.[68.7] | إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِه ِِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ |
Falā Tuţi`i Al-Mukadhdhibīna | So do not yield to the unbelievers.[68.8] |
Wa Ddū Law Tud/hinu Fayud/hinūna | They desire you to compromise a little, so they too would compromise.[68.9] |
Wa Lā Tuţi` Kulla Ĥallāfin Mahīnin | Neither yield to any mean oath-monger,[68.10] |
Hammāzin Mashshā'in Binamīmin | mischief making slanderer,[68.11] |
Mannā`in Lilkhayri Mu`tadin 'Athīmin | opponent of good, transgressor,[68.12] |
`Utullin Ba`da Dhālika Zanīmin | wicked oppressor, and above all, ignoble by birth,[68.13] |
'An Kāna Dhā Mālin Wa Banīna | though he be possessing wealth and children.[68.14] |
'Idhā Tutlá `Alayhi 'Āyātunā Qāla 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna | When Our revelations are recited to him , he says: “They are nothing but the tales of the ancients."[68.15] | إِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ |
Sanasimuhu `Alá Al-Khurţūmi | Soon We shall brand him on the snout.[68.16] |
'Innā Balawnāhum Kamā Balawnā 'Aşĥāba Al-Jannati 'Idh 'Aqsamū Layaşrimunnahā Muşbiĥīna | Surely We shall try them as We tried the owners of the garden when they swore that they would pluck its fruit the next morning,[68.17] | إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ |
Wa Lā Yastathnūna | without adding any reservation ( such as God willing).[68.18] |
Faţāfa `Alayhā Ţā'ifun Min Rabbika Wa Hum Nā'imūna | So a calamity from your Rabb came down upon it while they slept,[68.19] |
Fa'aşbaĥat Kālşşarīmi | and by the morning it lay as if it had been already harvested.[68.20] |
Fatanādaw Muşbiĥīna | At daybreak they called out to one another,[68.21] | فَتَنَادَوا مُصْبِحِينَ |
'Ani Aghdū `Alá Ĥarthikum 'In Kuntum Şārimīna | saying: “Go out early to your crop, if you want to pick its fruit."[68.22] | أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَى حَرْثِكُمْ إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَارِمِينَ |
Fānţalaqū Wa Hum Yatakhāfatūna | So they went, whispering to one another:[68.23] | فَانطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ |
'An Lā Yadkhulannahā Al-Yawma `Alaykum Miskīnun | “Let no needy person enter upon you in the garden today."[68.24] | أَنْ لاَ يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِين ٌ |
Waghadaw `Alá Ĥardin Qādirīna | Thus they went out, fixed in their stingy resolve (not to give any fruit to the poor people, as if they had the full control over harvesting the fruit).[68.25] | وَغَدَوْا عَلَى حَرْد ٍ قَادِرِينَ |
Falammā Ra'awhā Qālū 'Innā Lađāllūna | But when they saw the garden, they cried: “Surely we must have lost our way![68.26] | فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ |
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna | Nay, we have become destitute."[68.27] | بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ |
Qāla 'Awsaţuhum 'Alam 'Aqul Lakum Lawlā Tusabbiĥūna | The most upright among them said: “Did I not tell you to glorify Allah? Why did you not glorify Him?”[68.28] | قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَوْلاَ تُسَبِّحُونَ |
Qālū Subĥāna Rabbinā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna | Then they said: “Glory be to our Rabb! Surely we were unjust,"[68.29] | قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ |
Fa'aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatalāwamūna | and they started blaming one another.[68.30] | فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْض ٍ يَتَلاَوَمُونَ |
Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Ţāghīna | Finally they said: “Woe to us! Surely we had become rebellious.[68.31] | قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ |
`Asá Rabbunā 'An Yubdilanā Khayrāan Minhā 'Innā 'Ilá Rabbinā Rāghibūna | It may be that our Rabb will give us in exchange a better garden than this: surely to our Rabb do we make our humble petition."[68.32] | عَسَى رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرا ً مِنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ |
Kadhālika Al-`Adhābu Wa La`adhābu Al-'Ākhirati 'Akbaru Law Kānū Ya`lamūna | Such is the punishment in this life; but the punishment in the Hereafter is even greater, if they but knew it.[68.33] | كَذَلِكَ الْعَذَابُ وَلَعَذَابُ الآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ |
'Inna Lilmuttaqīna `Inda Rabbihim Jannāti An-Na`īmi | Surely the righteous will be rewarded with gardens of delight by their Rabb.[68.34] |
'Afanaj`alu Al-Muslimīna Kālmujrimīna | What do the disbelievers think? Shall We treat the Muslims as We treat the guilty?[68.35] |
Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumūna | What is the matter with you? What kind of Judgment do you make?[68.36] | مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ |
'Am Lakum Kitābun Fīhi Tadrusūna | Or do you have a Book in which you read,[68.37] |
'Inna Lakum Fīhi Lamā Takhayyarūna | that you shall be given whatever you choose?[68.38] |
'Am Lakum 'Aymānun `Alaynā Bālighatun 'Ilá Yawmi Al-Qiyāmati 'Inna Lakum Lamā Taĥkumūna | Or do you have a sworn covenant - a covenant binding on Us till the Day of Resurrection - that you shall have whatever you demand?[68.39] | أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَة ٌ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ |
Salhum 'Ayyuhum Bidhālika Za`īmun | Ask if any of them will vouch for that.[68.40] | سَلْهُم أَيُّهُمْ بِذَلِكَ زَعِيم ٌ |
'Am Lahum Shurakā'u Falya'tū Bishurakā'ihim 'In Kānū Şādiqīna | Or do they have other gods who could help them against Allah? If so, let them produce their other gods if they are truthful.[68.41] | أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ |
Yawma Yukshafu `An Sāqin Wa Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Falā Yastaţī`ūna | On the Day of Judgment, when the dreadful events shall be unfolded, and they shall be asked to prostrate themselves, they shall not be able to do so.[68.42] | يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاق ٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ |
Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun Wa Qad Kānū Yud`awna 'Ilá As-Sujūdi Wa Hum Sālimūna | They shall stand with eyes downcast, utterly humbled; because during their safe and sound earthly life they were called upon to prostrate themselves but they refused to do so.[68.43] | خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّة ٌ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ |
Fadharnī Wa Man Yukadhdhibu Bihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi Sanastadrijuhum Min Ĥaythu Lā Ya`lamūna | O Prophet, leave to Me those who reject this revelation. We shall lead them step by step to their ruin, in ways that they cannot perceive.[68.44] | فَذَرْنِي وَمَنْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ |
Wa 'Umlī Lahum 'Inna Kaydī Matīnun | I shall even put up with them for a while; for My plan is fool proof.[68.45] |
'Am Tas'aluhum 'Ajrāan Fahum Min Maghramin Muthqalūna | Or have you, O Prophet, demanded a compensation from them, that they are overburdened with debt?[68.46] | أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرا ً فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَم ٍ مُثْقَلُونَ |
'Am `Indahumu Al-Ghaybu Fahum Yaktubūna | Or do they have the knowledge of the unseen and they are writing it down?[68.47] | أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ |
Fāşbir Liĥukmi Rabbika Wa Lā Takun Kaşāĥibi Al-Ĥūti 'Idh Nādá Wa Huwa Makžūmun | So wait with patience for the Judgment of your Rabb and be not like the man of the fish (reference is to the Prophet Jonah who was swallowed by a whale), who cried when he was in distress[68.48] | فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلاَ تَكُنْ كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَى وَهُوَ مَكْظُوم ٌ |
Lawlā 'An Tadārakahu Ni`matun Min Rabbihi Lanubidha Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Madhmūmun | Had his Rabb not bestowed on him His grace, he would certainly have been cast off on the naked shore, while he was condemned.[68.49] | لَوْلاَ أَنْ تَدَارَكَه ُُ نِعْمَة ٌ مِنْ رَبِّه ِِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُوم ٌ |
Fājtabāhu Rabbuhu Faja`alahu Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna | But his Rabb chose him and included him among the righteous.[68.50] |
Wa 'In Yakādu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Layuzliqūnaka Bi'abşārihim Lammā Sami`ū Adh-Dhikra Wa Yaqūlūna 'Innahu Lamajnūnun | The unbelievers would almost trip you up with their eyes when they hear Our revelations (The Qur’an), and say: “He (Muhammad) is surely crazy."[68.51] | وَإِنْ يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّه ُُ لَمَجْنُون ٌ |
Wa Mā Huwa 'Illā Dhikrun Lil`ālamīna | This (The Qur’an) is nothing but a Reminder to all the people of the world.[68.52] | وَمَا هُوَ إِلاَّ ذِكْر ٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ |
