Aqtarabati As-Sā`atu Wa Anshaqqa Al-Qamaru |
The Hour of Doom is drawing near, the moon has
split asunder; which is a clear proof that the same thing can happen to
Wa 'In Yaraw 'Āyatan Yu`riđū Wa Yaqūlū Siĥrun Mustamirrun |
Yet when they see a sign, the unbelievers turn
their backs and say: “This is an ingenious magic."[54.2] | وَإِنْ يَرَوْا آيَة ً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْر ٌ مُسْتَمِرّ ٌ |
Wa Kadhdhabū Wa Attaba`ū 'Ahwā'ahum Wa Kullu 'Amrin Mustaqirrun |
They deny this and keep on following their own
fancies. Ultimately every matter shall be laid to rest.[54.3] | وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ أَمْر ٍ مُسْتَقِرّ ٌ |
Wa Laqad Jā'ahum Mina Al-'Anbā'i Mā Fīhi Muzdajarun |
There has already come to them the information
Ĥikmatun Bālighatun Famā Tughni An-Nudhuru |
and profound wisdom to serve as a warning,
but warnings are of no use to these people.[54.5] | حِكْمَة ٌ بَالِغَة ٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ |
Fatawalla `Anhum Yawma Yad`u Ad-Dā`i 'Ilá Shay'in Nukurin |
Therefore, O Prophet, let them be. On
the Day when the caller will call them to a terrible event.[54.6]
Khushsha`āan 'Abşāruhum Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajdāthi Ka'annahum Jarādun Muntashirun |
shall come out from their graves, like
Muhţi`īna 'Ilá Ad-Dā`i Yaqūlu Al-Kāfirūna Hādhā Yawmun `Asirun |
rushing towards the caller and the same
unbelievers will cry: “This is indeed an awful Day!”[54.8]
Kadhdhabat Qablahum Qawmu Nūĥin Fakadhdhabū `Abdanā Wa Qālū Majnūnun Wa Azdujira | Long before them, the people of Nüh (Noah) disbelieved. They rejected Our servant, called him a madman and drove him out.[54.9] | كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوح ٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُون ٌ وَازْدُجِرَ |
Fada`ā Rabbahu 'Annī Maghlūbun Fāntaşir | After admonishing the people for 950 years, finally he cried out: “Help me, O Rabb, I have been overcome!”[54.10] | فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ~ُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوب ٌ فَانْتَصِرْ |
Fafataĥnā 'Abwāba As-Samā'i Bimā'in Munhamirin | So We opened the gates of heaven with pouring rain[54.11] |
Wa Fajjarnā Al-'Arđa `Uyūnāan Fāltaqá Al-Mā'u `Alá 'Amrin Qad Qudira | and caused the earth to burst with gushing springs, and the waters met to fulfill the decreed end.[54.12] | وَفَجَّرْنَا الأَرْضَ عُيُونا ً فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَى أَمْر ٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ |
Wa Ĥamalnāhu `Alá Dhāti 'Alwāĥin Wa Dusurin | We carried him in an Ark built with planks and nails,[54.13] |
Tajrī Bi'a`yuninā Jazā'an Liman Kāna Kufira | which drifted on under Our care: a reward for him (Noah) who was denied by the unbelievers.[54.14] |
Wa Laqad Taraknāhā 'Āyatan Fahal Min Muddakirin | We have left that Ark as a sign, so is there any who would take admonition?[54.15] |
Fakayfa Kāna `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | How terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning![54.16] |
Wa Laqad Yassarnā Al-Qur'āna Lildhdhikri Fahal Min Muddakirin | We have indeed made the Qur’an very easy to understand the admonition: but is there any who would take admonition?[54.17] | وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِر ٍ |
Kadhdhabat `Ādun Fakayfa Kāna `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | Likewise the people of 'Ad did not believe then how terrible was My scourge and how clear My Warning![54.18] | كَذَّبَتْ عَاد ٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ |
'Innā 'Arsalnā `Alayhim Rīĥāan Şarşarāan Fī Yawmi Naĥsin Mustamirrin | We let loose on them a tornado, on the day of their bitter misfortune,[54.19] | إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحا ً صَرْصَرا ً فِي يَوْمِ نَحْس ٍ مُسْتَمِرّ ٍ |
Tanzi`u An-Nāsa Ka'annahum 'A`jāzu Nakhlin Munqa`irin | which snatched them off like trunks of uprooted palm-trees.[54.20] |
Fakayfa Kāna `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | How terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning![54.21] |
Wa Laqad Yassarnā Al-Qur'āna Lildhdhikri Fahal Min Muddakirin | We have indeed made the Qur’an very easy to understand the admonition, so is there any who would take admonition?[54.22] | وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِر ٍ |
Kadhdhabat Thamūdu Bin-Nudhuri | The people of Thamüd disbelieved Our warning,[54.23] |
Faqālū 'Abasharāan Minnā Wāĥidāan Nattabi`uhu 'Innā 'Idhāan Lafī Đalālin Wa Su`urin | saying: "Are we to follow a human who stands alone among us? That would surely be an error and madness.[54.24] | فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرا ً مِنَّا وَاحِدا ً نَتَّبِعُهُ~ُ إِنَّا إِذا ً لَفِي ضَلاَل ٍ وَسُعُر ٍ |
'A'uulqiya Adh-Dhikru `Alayhi Min Bayninā Bal Huwa Kadhdhābun 'Ashirun | Was he the only person among us to receive this warning? Nay! He is indeed an insolent liar."[54.25] | أَؤُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِر ٌ |
Saya`lamūna Ghadāan Mani Al-Kadhdhābu Al-'Ashiru | To Our Rasool Saleh, We said: “Tomorrow they shall find out who is an insolent liar.[54.26] | سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدا ً مَنِ الْكَذَّابُ الأَشِرُ |
'Innā Mursilū An-Nāqati Fitnatan Lahum Fārtaqibhum Wa Aşţabir | We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them. Therefore, watch them and have patience.[54.27] | إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَة ً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ |
Wa Nabbi'hum 'Anna Al-Mā'a Qismatun Baynahum Kullu Shirbin Muĥtađarun | Tell them that the water must be shared between them and the she-camel, and each will come to the water at its own turn.[54.28] | وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ قِسْمَة ٌ بَيْنَهُمْ كُلُّ شِرْب ٍ مُحْتَضَر ٌ |
Fanādaw Şāĥibahum Fata`āţá Fa`aqara | At last the people of Thamüd called out to one of their companions, who took the responsibility and hamstrung her.[54.29] | فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَى فَعَقَرَ |
Fakayfa Kāna `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | Then how terrible was My scourge and how clear My warning![54.30] |
'Innā 'Arsalnā `Alayhim Şayĥatan Wāĥidatan Fakānū Kahashīmi Al-Muĥtažiri | We let loose on them one mighty blast and they became like the trampled twigs used by a fence builder.[54.31] | إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَة ً وَاحِدَة ً فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ |
Wa Laqad Yassarnā Al-Qur'āna Lildhdhikri Fahal Min Muddakirin | We have indeed made the Qur’an very easy to understand the admonition, so is there any who would take admonition?[54.32] | وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِر ٍ |
Kadhdhabat Qawmu Lūţin Bin-Nudhuri | Another example is the people of Lüt (Lot) who disbelieved Our warning.[54.33] |
'Innā 'Arsalnā `Alayhim Ĥāşibāan 'Illā 'Āla Lūţin Najjaynāhum Bisaĥarin | We let loose on them a stone-charged tornado which spared none except Lüt’s household, whom We saved by early dawn[54.34] | إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبا ً إِلاَّ آلَ لُوط ٍ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَر ٍ |
Ni`matan Min `Indinā Kadhālika Najzī Man Shakara | through Our grace. Thus do We reward those who give thanks.[54.35] |
Wa Laqad 'Andharahum Baţshatanā Fatamāraw Bin-Nudhuri | Lüt did warn them of Our scourge but they doubted his warnings.[54.36] |
Wa Laqad Rāwadūhu `An Đayfihi Faţamasnā 'A`yunahum Fadhūqū `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | They even sought to snatch away his guests from him but We blinded their eyes, and said: “Now taste My punishment and the result of disbelieving My warning."[54.37] | وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوه ُُ عَنْ ضَيْفِه ِِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ |
Wa Laqad Şabbaĥahum Bukratan `Adhābun Mustaqirrun | At daybreak they were overtaken by a lasting punishment[54.38] |
Fadhūqū `Adhābī Wa Nudhuri | as if to say: "Now taste My punishment and the result of disbelieving My warning."[54.39] |
Wa Laqad Yassarnā Al-Qur'āna Lildhdhikri Fahal Min Muddakirin | We have indeed made the Qur’an very easy to understand the admonition, so is there any who would take admonition?[54.40] | وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِر ٍ |
Wa Laqad Jā'a 'Āla Fir`awna An-Nudhuru | My warnings also came to the people of Fir'on (Pharaoh).[54.41] |
Kadhdhabū Bi'āyātinā Kullihā Fa'akhadhnāhum 'Akhdha `Azīzin Muqtadirin | They disbelieved all Our signs. Consequently, We seized them with a seizure of the Mighty, Powerful.[54.42] | كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيز ٍ مُقْتَدِر ٍ |
'Akuffārukum Khayrun Min 'Ūla'ikum 'Am Lakum Barā'atun Fī Az-Zuburi | O Qureysh, are your unbelievers better than they were, or have you been granted an immunity in the Sacred Books?[54.43] | أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْر ٌ مِنْ أُوْلَئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُمْ بَرَاءَة ٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ |
'Am Yaqūlūna Naĥnu Jamī`un Muntaşirun | Or, do they say: “Acting together, we can defend ourselves?”[54.44] |
Sayuhzamu Al-Jam`u Wa Yuwallūna Ad-Dubura | Soon will their multitude be routed and put to flight.[54.45] |
Bali As-Sā`atu Maw`iduhum Wa As-Sā`atu 'Ad/há Wa 'Amarru | Nay! The Hour of Judgment is the time promised to deal with them. That hour will be the most grievous and bitter.[54.46] | بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَى وَأَمَرُّ |
'Inna Al-Mujrimīna Fī Đalālin Wa Su`urin | Yet, surely the wicked people persist in error and madness.[54.47] |
Yawma Yusĥabūna Fī An-Nāri `Alá Wujūhihim Dhūqū Massa Saqara | On that Day when they will be dragged into the fire with their faces downwards, We shall say: "Feel the touch of hell!”[54.48] | يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ |
'Innā Kulla Shay'in Khalaqnāhu Biqadarin | Surely We have created everything in perfect ordainment (destiny and purpose).[54.49] |
Wa Mā 'Amrunā 'Illā Wāĥidatun Kalamĥin Bil-Başari | We command but once and Our will is done in the twinkling of an eye.[54.50] |
Wa Laqad 'Ahlaknā 'Ashyā`akum Fahal Min Muddakirin | O disbelievers, We have already destroyed many like you. Will you not take admonition?[54.51] | وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِر ٍ |
Wa Kullu Shay'in Fa`alūhu Fī Az-Zuburi | All that they do is being added to their record books:[54.52] |
Wa Kullu Şaghīrin Wa Kabīrin Mustaţarun | every action, small and big is being noted down.[54.53] | وَكُلُّ صَغِير ٍ وَكَبِير ٍ مُسْتَطَر ٌ |
'Inna Al-Muttaqīna Fī Jannātin Wa Naharin | Surely the righteous will be in the midst of gardens and rivers,[54.54] |
Fī Maq`adi Şidqin `Inda Malīkin Muqtadirin | a place of true honor, in the presence of Almighty Sovereign.[54.55] |
