Ţā-Sīn-Mīm Tu Sn M'm.[26.1] --
Tilka 'Āyātu Al-Kitābi Al-Mubīni These are verses of the Glorious Book.[26.2]
La`allaka Bākhi`un Nafsaka 'Allā Yakūnū Mu'uminīna O Muhammad, you will perhaps fret yourself to death with grief because they do not believe.[26.3]
'In Nasha' Nunazzil `Alayhim Mina As-Samā'i 'Āyatan Fažallat 'A`nāquhum Lahā Khāđi`īna If We wanted, We could send down upon them a sign from the heaven before which they would bend their necks in submission, but that is not what We want.[26.4]
Wa Mā Ya'tīhim Min Dhikrin Mina Ar-Raĥmāni Muĥdathin 'Illā Kānū `Anhu Mu`rīna They have been turning their backs on each fresh warning that comes to them from the Compassionate (Allah).[26.5]
Faqad Kadhdhabū Fasaya'tīhim 'Anbā'u Mā Kānū Bihi Yastahzi'ūn But now that they have neglected the warning, they will soon come to know the reality of what they have been mocking at.[26.6]
'Awalam Yaraw 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Kam 'Anbatnā Fīhā Min Kulli Zawjin Karīmin Have they not looked at the earth to see how We have caused all kinds of noble pairs to grow in it?[26.7]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely in this there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe.[26.8]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu In fact your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.9]
Wa 'Idh Nādá Rabbuka Mūsá 'Ani A'ti Al-Qawma Až-Žālimīna Remind them of the story when your Rabb called Musa (Moses) and said: Go to the wicked people[26.10]
Qawma Fir`awna 'Alā Yattaqūna the people of Fir'on (Pharaoh). Have they no fear?[26.11]
Qāla Rabbi 'Innī 'Akhāfu 'An Yukadhdhibūni Musa submitted, saying: My Rabb! I fear that they will reject me.[26.12]
Wa Yađīqu Şadrī Wa Lā Yanţaliqu Lisānī Fa'arsil 'Ilá Hārūna My breast feels cramped and my tongue is not eloquent; send Haroon (Aaron).[26.13]
Wa Lahum `Alayya Dhanbun Fa'akhāfu 'An Yaqtulūni They have a charge of manslaughter against me and I fear they may put me to death.[26.14]
Qāla Kallā Fādh/habā Bi'āyātinā 'Innā Ma`akum Mustami`ūna Allah said: Indeed not! Proceed, both of you, with Our signs; surely We are with you, listening.[26.15]
Fa'tiyā Fir`awna Faqūlā 'Innā Rasūlu Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna Go to Fir'on and tell him: "We are the Rasools from the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.16]
'An 'Arsil Ma`anā Banī 'Isrā'īla You should send with us the Children of Israel."[26.17]
Qāla 'Alam Nurabbika Fīnā Walīdāan Wa Labithta Fīnā Min `Umurika Sinīna When they went to Fir'on and conveyed the Message of Allah, he said: Did we not cherish you when you were a child? Did you not stay several years of your life among us?[26.18]
Wa Fa`alta Fa`lataka Allatī Fa`alta Wa 'Anta Mina Al-Kāfirīna Then you did what you did; you are so ungrateful![26.19]
Qāla Fa`altuhā 'Idhāan Wa 'Anā Mina Ađ-Đāllīn Musa replied: I did that when I was a misguided youth.[26.20]
Fafarartu Minkum Lammā Khiftukum Fawahaba Lī Rabbī Ĥukmāan Wa Ja`alanī Mina Al-Mursalīna I fled from you all because I feared you; but now my Rabb has granted me wisdom and appointed me as one of His Rasools.[26.21]
Wa Tilka Ni`matun Tamunnuhā `Alayya 'An `Abbadta Banī 'Isrā'īla Is it a favor with which you taunt me, that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?[26.22]
Qāla Fir`awnu Wa Mā Rabbu Al-`Ālamīna Fir'on said: Who is this Rabb of the Worlds?[26.23]
Qāla Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā 'In Kuntum Mūqinīna Musa replied: He is the Rabb of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really care to believe.[26.24]
Qāla Liman Ĥawlahu 'Alā Tastami`ūna Fir'on said to those around him, Do you hear that?[26.25] ~
Qāla Rabbukum Wa Rabbu 'Ābā'ikumu Al-'Awwalīna Musa continued: He is your Rabb and the Rabb of your forefathers."[26.26]
Qāla 'Inna Rasūlakumu Al-Ladhī 'Ursila 'Ilaykum Lamajnūnun Fir'on interjected: This Rasool of yours, who has been sent to you, is crazy.[26.27]
Qāla Rabbu Al-Mashriqi Wa Al-Maghribi Wa Mā Baynahumā 'In Kuntum Ta`qilūna Musa continued: He is the Rabb of the east and west, and all that lies between them. If you would only care and try to understand." [26.28]
Qāla La'ini Attakhadhta 'Ilahāan Ghayrī La'aj`alannaka Mina Al-Masjūnīna At this, Fir'on, who did not want to listen any more said: If you serve any other god besides me, I shall have you thrown into prison."[26.29]
Qāla 'Awalaw Ji'tuka Bishay'in Mubīnin At this, Musa said: What if I show you a convincing sign?[26.30]
Qāla Fa'ti Bihi 'In Kunta Mina Aş-Şādiqīna Fir'on said: Go ahead, show it if you are of the truthful."[26.31] ~
Fa'alqá `Aşāhu Fa'idhā Hiya Thu`bānun Mubīnun Hearing this, Musa threw down his staff, and thereupon it changed into a veritable serpent.[26.32]
Wa Naza`a Yadahu Fa'idhā Hiya Bayđā'u Lilnnāžirīna Then he drew forth his hand and it became shining bright for the spectators.[26.33]
Qāla Lilmala'i Ĥawlahu 'Inna Hādhā Lasāĥirun `Alīmun After witnessing both the miracles, Fir'on (Pharaoh) said to the chiefs around him: This fellow is certainly a skilled magician,[26.34] ~
Yurīdu 'An Yukhrijakum Min 'Arđikum Bisiĥrihi Famādhā Ta'murūna who seeks to drive you out from your land by the force of his magic. Now what is your advice?[26.35]
Qālū 'Arjihi Wa 'Akhāhu Wa Ab`ath Al-Madā'ini Ĥāshirīna They submitted: Put him and his brother off for a while, and dispatch heralds to the various cities[26.36]
Ya'tūka Bikulli Saĥĥārin `Alīmin to bring you every skilled magician."[26.37]
Fajumi`a As-Saĥaratu Limīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūmin So the magicians were brought together at the appointed time on a fixed day.[26.38]
Wa Qīla Lilnnāsi Hal 'Antum Mujtami`ūna The people were motivated through saying: Would you come to the gathering?[26.39]
La`allanā Nattabi`u As-Saĥarata 'In Kānū Humu Al-Ghālibīna So that we may follow the magicians if they are dominant.[26.40]
Falammā Jā'a As-Saĥaratu Qālū Lifir`awna 'A'inna Lanā La'ajrāan 'In Kunnā Naĥnu Al-Ghālibīna When the magicians arrived, they asked Fir'on: Shall we get a reward if we are dominant?[26.41]
Qāla Na`am Wa 'Innakum 'Idhāan Lamina Al-Muqarrabīna Fir'on replied: Yes of course! You will even be made my courtiers."[26.42]
Qāla Lahum Mūsá 'Alqū Mā 'Antum Mulqūna Musa said to them: Cast down what you are going to cast."[26.43]
Fa'alqaw Ĥibālahum Wa `Işīyahum Wa Qālū Bi`izzati Fir`awna 'Innā Lanaĥnu Al-Ghālibūna Thereupon they cast down their ropes and staffs, saying: By the glory of Fir'on, we shall be the winners."[26.44]
Fa'alqá Mūsá `Aşāhu Fa'idhā Hiya Talqafu Mā Ya'fikūna Then Musa threw down his staff, and lo! It swallowed their false devices.[26.45]
Fa'ulqiya As-Saĥaratu Sājidīna At this, all the magicians prostrated themselves,[26.46]
Qālū 'Āmannā Birabbi Al-`Ālamīna saying: We believe in the Rabb of the Worlds,[26.47]
Rabbi Mūsá Wa Hārūna the Rabb of Musa (Moses) and Haroon (Aaron)."[26.48]
Qāla 'Āmantum Lahu Qabla 'An 'Ādhana Lakum 'Innahu Lakabīrukumu Al-Ladhī `Allamakumu As-Siĥra Falasawfa Ta`lamūna La'uqaţţi`anna 'Aydiyakum Wa 'Arjulakum Min Khilāfin Wa La'uşallibannakum 'Ajma`īna Fir'on shouted: How dare you believe in him before I give you permission? He must be your master who taught you the witchcraft. But soon you shall find out. I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides and crucify you all."[26.49]
Qālū Lā Đayra 'Innā 'Ilá Rabbinā Munqalibūna They replied: We dont care! We are going to return to our Rabb anyway.[26.50]
'Innā Naţma`u 'An Yaghfira Lanā Rabbunā Khaţāyānā 'An Kunnā 'Awwala Al-Mu'uminīna We only desire that our Rabb may forgive us our sins, as we are the first to believe."[26.51]
Wa 'Awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'An 'Asri Bi`ibādī 'Innakum Muttaba`ūna We revealed to Musa (Moses), saying: Set off with my servants by night and beware that you will be pursued."[26.52]
Fa'arsala Fir`awnu Fī Al-Madā'ini Ĥāshirīna Fir'on (Pharaoh) sent heralds to all the cities,[26.53]
'Inna Hā'uulā' Lashirdhimatun Qalīlūna and to mobilize his people he said: These Israelites are but a handful of people,[26.54]
Wa 'Innahum Lanā Laghā'ižūna who have provoked us much;[26.55]
Wa 'Innā Lajamī`un Ĥādhirūna while we have a large army, well prepared."[26.56]
Fa'akhrajnāhum Min Jannātin Wa `Uyūnin Thus did We make them leave their gardens and their water springs,[26.57]
Wa Kunūzin Wa Maqāmin Karīmin their treasures and sumptuous dwellings.[26.58]
Kadhālika Wa 'Awrathnāhā Banī 'Isrā'īla This is how they were made to lose, while on the other hand We made the Children of Israel inheritors of such things.[26.59]
Fa'atba`ūhum Mushriqīna At sunrise the Egyptians pursued them.[26.60]
Falammā Tarā'á Al-Jam`āni Qāla 'Aşĥābu Mūsá 'Innā Lamudrakūna When the two hosts came face to face, the companions of Musa cried out: We are surely overtaken."[26.61]
Qāla Kallā 'Inna Ma`iya Rabbī Sayahdīni Musa said: Not at all! My Rabb is with me; He will show me a way out.[26.62]
Fa'awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'Ani Ađrib Bi`aşāka Al-Baĥra Fānfalaqa Fakāna Kullu Firqin Kālţţawdi Al-`Ažīmi Then We revealed Our will to Musa: "Strike the sea with your staff," and the sea was cleft asunder, each part stood like a mighty mountain.[26.63]
Wa 'Azlafnā Thamma Al-'Ākharīna We made the other party (Fir'on and his army) follow them.[26.64]
Wa 'Anjaynā Mūsá Wa Man Ma`ahu 'Ajma`īna We delivered Musa and all who were with him;[26.65] ~
Thumma 'Aghraq Al-'Ākharīna and drowned the others.[26.66]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely there is a lesson in this: yet most of these people do not learn this lesson to become believers.[26.67]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu The fact is that your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.68]
Wa Atlu `Alayhim Naba'a 'Ibrāhīma Narrate to them the story of Ibrhm,[26.69]
'Idh Qāla Li'abīhi Wa Qawmihi Mā Ta`budūna when he asked his father and his people: What is that which you worship?[26.70]
Qālū Na`budu 'Aşnāmāan Fanažallu Lahā `Ākifīna They replied: We worship idols, and sit beside them with all devotion."[26.71]
Qāla Hal Yasma`ūnakum 'Idh Tad`ūna Ibrhm asked: Do they hear you when you call on them?[26.72]
'Aw Yanfa`ūnakum 'Aw Yađurrūna Can they help you or harm you?[26.73]
Qālū Bal Wajadnā 'Ābā'anā Kadhālika Yaf`alūna They replied: No! But we found our forefathers doing so."[26.74]
Qāla 'Afara'aytum Mā Kuntum Ta`budūna Ibrhm said: Have you ever seen with open eyes these which you have been worshipping[26.75]
'Antum Wa 'Ābā'uukumu Al-'Aqdamūna - you and your forefathers?[26.76]
Fa'innahum `Adūwun Lī 'Illā Rabba Al-`Ālamīna They are all enemies to me; except the Rabb of the Worlds,[26.77]
Al-Ladhī Khalaqanī Fahuwa Yahdīni Who created me, then He gave me guidance.[26.78]
Wa Al-Ladhī Huwa Yuţ`imunī Wa Yasqīni He is the One Who gives me food and drink,[26.79]
Wa 'Idhā Mariđtu Fahuwa Yashfīni Who gives me health when I get sick,[26.80]
Wa Al-Ladhī Yumītunī Thumma Yuĥyīni Who will cause me to die and then bring me back to life,[26.81]
Wa Al-Ladhī 'Aţma`u 'An Yaghfira Lī Khī'atī Yawma Ad-Dīni Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgment."[26.82]
Rabbi Hab Lī Ĥukmāan Wa 'Alĥiqnī Biş-Şāliĥīna After this, Ibrhm prayed: O my Rabb! Bestow wisdom upon me and admit me among the righteous,[26.83]
Wa Aj`al Lī Lisāna Şidqin Al-'Ākhirīna grant me a reputation of truthfulness on the tongue of later generations,[26.84]
Wa Aj`alnī Min Warathati Jannati An-Na`īmi count me among the inheritors of the paradise of Bliss;[26.85]
Wa Aghfir Li'abī 'Innahu Kāna Mina Ađ-Đāllīna forgive my father, for he is from among those who have gone astray,[26.86]
Wa Lā Tukhzinī Yawma Yub`athūna do not hold me up in shame on the Day when everybody will be raised back to life[26.87]
Yawma Lā Yanfa`u Mālun Wa Lā Banūna - the Day when neither wealth nor sons will avail anyone,[26.88]
'Illā Man 'Atá Al-Laha Biqalbin Salīmin and when none shall be saved except him who will come before Allah with a pure heart,[26.89]
Wa 'Uzlifati Al-Jannatu Lilmuttaqīna when paradise shall be brought in the sight of the righteous;[26.90]
Wa Burrizati Al-Jaĥīmu Lilghāwīna while hell shall be spread open to the straying[26.91]
Wa Qīla Lahum 'Ayna Mā Kuntum Ta`budūna and they will be asked: "Now, where are those whom you worshipped[26.92]
Min Dūni Al-Lahi Hal Yanşurūnakum 'Aw Yantaşirūna besides Allah? Can they help you or even help themselves?[26.93]
Fakubkibū Fīhā Hum Wa Al-Ghāwūna Then they will be toppled into it, both they and those who misled them,[26.94]
Wa Junūdu 'Iblīsa 'Ajma`ūna together with all the armies of Iblees,[26.95]
Qālū Wa Hum Fīhā Yakhtaşimūna wherein they will argue with one another[26.96]
Ta-Allāhi 'In Kunnā Lafī Đalālin Mubīnin saying: By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error,[26.97]
'Idh Nusawwīkum Birabbi Al-`Ālamīna when we made you equals with the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.98]
Wa Mā 'Ađallanā 'Illā Al-Mujrimūna It was the criminals who led us astray.[26.99]
Famā Lanā Min Shāfi`īna Now we have no intercessors,[26.100]
Wa Lā Şadīqin Ĥamīmin and no loving friends.[26.101]
Falaw 'Anna Lanā Karratan Fanakūna Mina Al-Mu'uminīna If we could but once return to our worldly life, we would be of the true believers."[26.102]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely in this narration there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson to become believers.[26.103]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu The fact is that your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.104]
Kadhdhabat Qawmu Nūĥin Al-Mursalīna The people of Nh, also, rejected the Rasools.[26.105]
'Idh Qāla Lahum 'Akhūhum Nūĥun 'Alā Tattaqūna Remember when their brother Nh asked them: Have you no fear of Allah?[26.106]
'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun Rest assured that I am a trustworthy Rasool of Allah towards you,[26.107]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni so fear Allah and obey me.[26.108]
Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin 'In 'Ajrī 'Illā `Alá Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna I do not ask you for any reward for my services, for my reward will be given by the Rabb of the Worlds,[26.109]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni so fear Allah and obey me."[26.110]
Qālū 'Anu'uminu Laka Wa Attaba`aka Al-'Ardhalūna They replied: Should we believe in you, whereas your followers are but the lowest of the low?[26.111]
Qāla Wa Mā `Ilmī Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna He said: I have no knowledge as to what they have been doing;[26.112]
'In Ĥisābuhum 'Illā `Alá Rabbī Law Tash`urūna their account is the concern of my Rabb, if you could use your common sense![26.113]
Wa Mā 'Anā Biţāridi Al-Mu'uminīna I am not going to drive away any believer.[26.114]
'In 'Anā 'Illā Nadhīrun Mubīnun I am nothing but a plain Warner."[26.115]
Qālū La'in Lam Tantahi Yā Nūĥu Latakūnanna Mina Al-Marjūmīna They said: O Nh! If you do not stop, you shall be stoned to death."[26.116]
Qāla Rabbi 'Inna Qawmī Kadhdhabūni Nh prayed: O Rabb! My people have disobeyed me.[26.117]
Fāftaĥ Baynī Wa Baynahum Fatĥāan Wa Najjinī Wa Man Ma`ī Mina Al-Mu'uminīna Decide the case between me and them openly. Deliver me and the believers who are with me."[26.118]
Fa'anjaynāhu Wa Man Ma`ahu Fī Al-Fulki Al-Mashĥūni So We granted his prayer, delivered him and those with him in the laden ark,[26.119]
Thumma 'Aghraqnā Ba`du Al-Bāqīna and drowned the rest in the flood.[26.120]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely in this story there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson and become believers.[26.121]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu The fact is that your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.122]
Kadhdhabat `Ādun Al-Mursalīna The people of 'Ad, too, disbelieved their Rasools.[26.123]
'Idh Qāla Lahum 'Akhūhum Hūdun 'Alā Tattaqūna Remember when their brother Hd asked them: Have you no fear of Allah?[26.124]
'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun Rest assured that I am a trustworthy Rasool of Allah towards you.[26.125]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni So fear Allah and obey me.[26.126]
Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin 'In 'Ajrī 'Illā `Alá Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna I do not ask you any reward for my services, for my reward will be given by the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.127]
'Atabnūna Bikulli Rī`in 'Āyatan Ta`bathūna Are you erecting a monument on every high place for fun?[26.128]
Wa Tattakhidhūna Maşāni`a La`allakum Takhludūna Are you building strong fortresses as if you are going to live here forever?[26.129]
Wa 'Idhā Baţashtum Baţashtum Jabbārīna Whenever you lay your hands on anyone, you act like cruel tyrants.[26.130]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni Have fear of Allah and obey me.[26.131]
Wa Attaqū Al-Ladhī 'Amaddakum Bimā Ta`lamūna Fear the One Who has given you all the things that you know.[26.132]
'Amaddakum Bi'an`āmin Wa Banīna He has given you flocks and children,[26.133]
Wa Jannātin Wa `Uyūnin gardens and fountains.[26.134]
'Innī 'Akhāfu `Alaykum `Adhāba Yawmin `Ažīmin Truly I fear for you the torment of a dreadful Day."[26.135]
Qālū Sawā'un `Alaynā 'Awa`ažta 'Am Lam Takun Mina Al-Wā`ižīna They replied: It is the same to us whether you preach us or you are not one of the preachers.[26.136]
'In Hādhā 'Illā Khuluqu Al-'Awwalīna Such preaching is nothing but an ancient myth.[26.137]
Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimu`adhdhabīna We are not going to be punished."[26.138]
Fakadhdhabūhu Fa'ahlaknāhum 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna So they disbelieved him and We utterly destroyed them. Surely in this story there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson and become believers.[26.139]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu The fact is that your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.140]
Kadhdhabat Thamūdu Al-Mursalīna The people of Thamd also disbelieved their Rasools.[26.141]
'Idh Qāla Lahum 'Akhūhum Şāliĥun 'Alā Tattaqūna Remember when their brother Saleh asked them: Have you no fear of Allah?[26.142]
'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun Rest assured that I am a trustworthy Rasool of Allah towards you.[26.143]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni So fear Allah and obey me.[26.144]
Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin 'In 'Ajriya 'Illā `Alá Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna I do not ask you for any reward for my services, for my reward will be given by the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.145]
'Atutrakūna Fī Mā Hāhunā 'Āminīna Will you be left in peace to enjoy all that you have here forever?[26.146]
Fī Jannātin Wa `Uyūnin Gardens and fountains,[26.147]
Wa Zurū`in Wa Nakhlin Ţal`uhā Hađīmun cornfields and palm-trees laden with juicy fruit,[26.148]
Wa Tanĥitūna Mina Al-Jibāli Buyūtāanrihīna carving your dwellings in the mountains and leading a happy life?[26.149]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni Have fear of Allah and obey me.[26.150]
Wa Lā Tuţī`ū 'Amra Al-Musrifīna Do not follow the bidding of the extravagant,[26.151]
Al-Ladhīna Yufsidūna Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Lā Yuşliĥūna who create corruption in the land and reform nothing."[26.152]
Qālū 'Innamā 'Anta Mina Al-Musaĥĥarīna They replied: You are but one of the bewitched![26.153]
Mā 'Anta 'Illā Basharun Mithlunā Fa'ti Bi'āyatin 'In Kunta Mina Aş-Şādiqīna You are no more than a human being like us. Bring forth a sign if you are one of the truthful."[26.154]
Qāla Hadhihi Nāqatun Lahā Shirbun Wa Lakum Shirbu Yawmin Ma`lūmin Saleh said: Well, here is the she-camel (the sign that you asked for). She shall have her share of water as you all have yours, each drinking on an alternate appointed day.[26.155]
Wa Lā Tamassūhā Bisū'in Faya'khudhakum `Adhābu Yawmin `Ažīmin Do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a dreadful Day may overtake you."[26.156]
Fa`aqarūhā Fa'aşbaĥū Nādimīna Yet they hamstrung her, then became full of regrets;[26.157]
Fa'akhadhahumu Al-`Adhābu 'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna so the punishment overtook them. Surely in this story there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson and become believers.[26.158]
Wa 'Inna Rabbaka Lahuwa Al-`Azīzu Ar-Raĥīmu The fact is that your Rabb is the Mighty as well as the Merciful.[26.159]
Kadhdhabat Qawmu Lūţin Al-Mursalīna The people of Lt (Lot), also, disbelieved their Rasools.[26.160]
'Idh Qāla Lahum 'Akhūhum Lūţun 'Alā Tattaqūna Remember when their brother Lt asked them: Have you no fear of Allah?[26.161]
'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun Rest assured that I am a trustworthy Rasool of Allah towards you.[26.162]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni So fear Allah and obey me.[26.163]
Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin 'In 'Ajriya 'Illā `Alá Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna I do not ask you for any reward for my services, for my reward will be given by the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.164]
'Ata'tūna Adh-Dhukrāna Mina Al-`Ālamīna Will you fornicate with males from among the creatures of the worlds[26.165]
Wa Tadharūna Mā Khalaqa Lakum Rabbukum Min 'Azwājikum Bal 'Antum Qawmun `Ādūna and leave those whom your Rabb has created for you to be your mates? Nay! You are a people who have transgressed all limits."[26.166]
Qālū La'in Lam Tantahi Yā Lūţu Latakūnanna Mina Al-Mukhrajīna They replied: If you do not stop, O Lt, you shall become one of the expelled."[26.167]
Qāla 'Innī Li`amalikum Mina Al-Qālīna Lt said: I am certainly one of those who abhor your actions.[26.168]
Rabbi Najjinī Wa 'Ahlī Mimmā Ya`malūna O Rabb! Deliver me and my family from their wicked deeds."[26.169]
Fanajjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu 'Ajma`īna So We delivered him and all his family[26.170] ~
'Illā `Ajūzāan Al-Ghābirīna except an old woman who was left among those who remained behind.[26.171]
Thumma Dammarnā Al-'Ākharīna Then We utterly destroyed the rest.[26.172]
Wa 'Amţarnā `Alayhim Maţarāan Fasā'a Maţaru Al-Mundharīna We rained down on them the rain of brimstones: and evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned.[26.173]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely in this story there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson and become believers.[26.174]

'Idh Qāla Lahum Shu`aybun 'Alā Tattaqūna Remember Shuaib asked them: Have you no fear of Allah?[26.177]
'Innī Lakum Rasūlun 'Amīnun Rest assured that I am a trustworthy Rasool of Allah towards you.[26.178]
Fāttaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aţī`ūni So fear Allah and obey me.[26.179]
Wa Mā 'As'alukum `Alayhi Min 'Ajrin 'In 'Ajriya 'Illā `Alá Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna I do not ask you for any reward for my services, for my reward will be given by the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.180]
'Awfū Al-Kayla Wa Lā Takūnū Mina Al-Mukhsirīna Give full measure and be not of those who cause losses to others by fraud.[26.181]
Wa Zinū Bil-Qisţāsi Al-Mustaqīmi Weigh with even scales[26.182]
Wa Lā Tabkhasū An-Nāsa 'Ashyā'ahum Wa Lā Ta`thaw Fī Al-'Arđi Mufsidīna and do not cheat your fellow men of what is rightly theirs: nor spread evil in the land.[26.183]
Wa Attaqū Al-Ladhī Khalaqakum Wa Al-Jibillata Al-'Awwalīna Fear Him Who has created you and the generations before you.[26.184]
Qālū 'Innamā 'Anta Mina Al-Musaĥĥarīna They replied: You are surely one of those who are bewitched.[26.185]
Wa Mā 'Anta 'Illā Basharun Mithlunā Wa 'In Nažunnuka Lamina Al-Kādhibīna You are no more than a human being like us and we think that you are lying.[26.186]
Fa'asqiţ `Alaynā Kisafāan Mina As-Samā'i 'In Kunta Mina Aş-Şādiqīna Let a fragment fall out of the sky on us if you are telling the Truth.[26.187]
Qāla Rabbī 'A`lamu Bimā Ta`malūna Shuaib said: My Rabb has full knowledge of all your actions.[26.188]
Fakadhdhabūhu Fa'akhadhahum `Adhābu Yawmi Až-Žullati 'Innahu Kāna `Adhāba Yawmin `Ažīmin So they disbelieved him, and the torment of the day of darkness (dark clouds carrying Allah's scourge) seized them, and indeed it was the torment of an extremely dreadful day.[26.189]
'Inna Fī Dhālika La'āyatan Wa Mā Kāna 'Aktharuhum Mu'uminīna Surely in this story there is a great lesson, but most of these people do not learn a lesson and become believers.[26.190]

Wa 'Innahu Latanzīlu Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna Surely this Quran is a revelation from the Rabb of the Worlds.[26.192]
Nazala Bihi Ar-Rūĥu Al-'Amīnu The trustworthy Spirit (Angel Gabriel) brought it down[26.193]
`Alá Qalbika Litakūna Mina Al-Mundhirīna upon your heart so that you may become one of those who are appointed by Allah to warn the people[26.194]
Bilisānin `Arabīyin Mubīnin in a plain Arabic language.[26.195]
Wa 'Innahu Lafī Zuburi Al-'Awwalīna This fact was foretold in the scriptures of the former people.[26.196]
'Awalam Yakun Lahum 'Āyatan 'An Ya`lamahu `Ulamā'u Banī 'Isrā'īla Is it not sufficient proof for the people that the learned men of the children of Israel knew about it?[26.197]
Wa Law Nazzalnāhu `Alá Ba`đi Al-'A`jamīna Even so that if We had revealed it to a non-Arab,[26.198]
Faqara'ahu `Alayhim Mā Kānū Bihi Mu'uminīna and he had recited it to them in fluent Arabic, they would still not have believed in it.[26.199]
Kadhālika Salaknāhu Fī Qulūbi Al-Mujrimīna We have thus caused unbelief in the hearts of the guilty.[26.200]
Lā Yu'uminūna Bihi Ĥattá Yaraw Al-`Adhāba Al-'Alīma They are not going to believe in it until they see the painful scourge[26.201]
Faya'tiyahum Baghtatan Wa Hum Lā Yash`urūna which, in their heedlessness, will come to them suddenly.[26.202]
Fayaqūlū Hal Naĥnu Munžarūna Then they will ask: Can we be given some respite?[26.203]
'Afabi`adhābinā Yasta`jilūna Do they wish to hurry on Our scourge?[26.204]
'Afara'ayta 'In Matta`nāhum Sinīna Just think! If We let them enjoy this life for many years,[26.205]
Thumma Jā'ahum Mā Kānū Yū`adūna and then the scourge with which they are threatened falls upon them,[26.206]
Mā 'Aghná `Anhum Mā Kānū Yumatta`ūna of what avail will their past enjoyments be to them?[26.207]
Wa Mā 'Ahlaknā Min Qaryatin 'Illā Lahā Mundhirūna The Qur'an is revealed in plain Arabic by Allah through angel Gabriel; those people who do not want to believe will not believe Never have We destroyed a population to whom We did not send Warners;[26.208]
Dhikrá Wa Mā Kunnā Žālimīna they were forewarned, and We have never been unjust.[26.209]
Wa Mā Tanazzalat Bihi Ash-Shayāţīnu This Quran is not brought down by the shaitns:[26.210]
Wa Mā Yanbaghī Lahum Wa Mā Yastaţī`ūna it is neither in their interest nor in their power to produce such a masterpiece.[26.211]
'Innahum `Ani As-Sam`i Lama`zūlūna They are kept too far off to even hear it.[26.212]
Falā Tad`u Ma`a Al-Lahi 'Ilahāan 'Ākhara Fatakūna Mina Al-Mu`adhdhabīna So do not call on other gods besides Allah, lest you become one of those who incur His punishment.[26.213]
Wa 'Andhir `Ashīrataka Al-'Aqrabīna Admonish your close relatives[26.214]
Wa Akhfiđ Janāĥaka Limani Attaba`aka Mina Al-Mu'uminīna and lower your wing of kindness to those of the believers who follow you,[26.215]
Fa'in `Aşawka Faqul 'Innī Barī'un Mimmā Ta`malūna but if they disobey, tell them: I am not accountable for what you do."[26.216]
Wa Tawakkal `Alá Al-`Azīzi Ar-Raĥīmi Put your trust in the All-Mighty, the Merciful,[26.217]
Al-Ladhī Yarāka Ĥīna Taqūmu Who observes you when you get up[26.218]
Wa Taqallubaka Fī As-Sājidīna and when you walk among those who prostrate themselves in worship.[26.219]
'Innahu Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu He is the One Who hears all and knows all.[26.220]
Hal 'Unabbi'ukum `Alá Man Tanazzalu Ash-Shayāţīnu shaitns: it is neither in their interest nor in Shall I tell you, O people, on whom the shaitns descend?[26.221]
Tanazzalu `Alá Kulli 'Affākin 'Athīmin They descend on every slandering sinner,[26.222]
Yulqūna As-Sam`a Wa 'Aktharuhumdhibūna those who listen to hearsay - and most of them are liars[26.223]
Wa Ash-Shu`arā'u Yattabi`uhumu Al-Ghāwūna - and those poets who are followed by those who go astray.[26.224]
'Alam Tará 'Annahum Fī Kulli Wādin Yahīmūna Do you not see, how aimlessly they wander in every valley,[26.225]
Wa 'Annahum Yaqūlūna Mā Lā Yaf`alūna preaching what they do not practice themselves?[26.226]
'Illā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Wa `Amilū Aş-Şāliĥāti Wa Dhakarū Al-Laha Kathīrāan Wa Antaşarū Min Ba`di Mā Žulimū Wa Saya`lamu Al-Ladhīna Žalamū 'Ayya Munqalabin Yanqalibūna However, an exception is made for those (poets) who believe, do good deeds, engage much in the remembrance of Allah and defend themselves when wronged, showing no vindictiveness. The unjust oppressors will soon find out what vicissitudes their affairs will take.[26.227]
