21) سُورَة الأَنبيَاء

Aqtaraba Lilnnāsi Ĥisābuhum Wa HumGhaflatin Mu`rūna The Day of Accountability for mankind is getting closer and closer, yet they are heedless and are turning away from the admonition.[21.1] اقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِي غَفْلَة ٍ مُعْرِضُونَ
Mā Ya'tīhim Min Dhikrin Min Rabbihim Muĥdathin 'Illā Astama`ūhu Wa Hum Yal`abūna They listen with ridicule to each fresh warning that comes to them from their Rabb and remain engaged in the sports.[21.2] مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْر ٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ مُحْدَث ٍ إِلاَّ اسْتَمَعُوه ُُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ
Lāhiyatan Qulūbuhum Wa 'Asarrū An-Naj Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Hal Hādhā 'Illā Basharun Mithlukum 'Afata'tūna As-Siĥra Wa 'Antum Tubşirūna Their hearts are preoccupied with worldly affairs; these wrongdoers say to each other in private: “Is this man (Muhammad) not a human being like yourselves? Would you follow witchcraft with your eyes open?”[21.3] لاَهِيَة ً قُلُوبُهُمْ وَأَسَرُّوا النَّجْوَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا هَلْ هَذَا إِلاَّ بَشَر ٌ مِثْلُكُمْ أَفَتَأْتُونَ السِّحْرَ وَأَنْتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ
Qāla Rabbī Ya`lamu Al-Qawla Fī As-Samā'i Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Huwa As-Samī`u Al-`Alīmu Tell them: “My Rabb has knowledge of every word which is spoken in the heavens and the earth, and He hears all and knows all."[21.4] قَالَ رَبِّي يَعْلَمُ الْقَوْلَ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Bal Qālū 'Ađghāthu 'Aĥlāmin Bal Aftarāhu Bal Huwa Shā`irun Falya'tinā Bi'āyatin Kamā 'Ursila Al-'Awwalūna “Rather,” some of them say, “this Qur’an is jumble of dreams!” Others say: “He has made it all up!” And yet others say: “He is a poet!” Let him bring to us a sign as did the former Rasools."[21.5] بَلْ قَالُوا أَضْغَاثُ أَحْلاَم ٍ بَلْ افْتَرَاه ُُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِر ٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِآيَة ٍ كَمَا أُرْسِلَ الأَوَّلُونَ
Mā 'Āmanat Qablahum Min Qaryatin 'Ahlaknāhā 'Afahum Yu'uminūna The fact, however, is that even though We showed Signs to the prior people, not a single nation before them, which We destroyed, ever believed. Will they believe?[21.6] مَا آمَنَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَاهَا أَفَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ
Wa Mā 'Arsalnā Qablaka 'Illā Rijālāan Nūĥī 'Ilayhim Fās'alū 'Ahla Adh-Dhikri 'In Kuntum Lā Ta`lamūna The Rasools which We sent before you, O Muhammad, were also human to whom We sent revelation. If you, O objectors, do not know this, then ask the people of the reminder (Jews and Christians).[21.7] وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ إِلاَّ رِجَالا ً نُوحِي إِلَيْهِمْ فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
Wa Mā Ja`alnāhum Jasadāan Lā Ya'kulūna Aţ-Ţa`āma Wa Mā Kānū Khālidīna We did not give them bodies which could survive without food, nor were they immortal.[21.8] وَمَا جَعَلْنَاهُمْ جَسَدا ً لاَ يَأْكُلُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُوا خَالِدِينَ
Thumma Şadaqnāhumu Al-Wa`da Fa'anjaynāhum Wa Man Nashā'u Wa 'Ahlaknā Al-Musrifīna Then We fulfilled Our promise with them: We saved them and those whom We pleased, and destroyed the transgressors.[21.9] ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَاهُمُ الْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَاهُمْ وَمَنْ نَشَاءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا الْمُسْرِفِينَ
Laqad 'Anzalnā 'Ilaykum Kitābāan Fīhi Dhikrukum 'Afalā Ta`qilūna Now, O People, We have sent down to you a Book (The Qur’an) which deals with matters concerning yourselves; why don’t you understand?[21.10] لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَابا ً فِيه ِِ ذِكْرُكُمْ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ
Wa Kam Qaşamnā Min Qaryatin Kānat Žālimatan Wa 'Ansha'nā Ba`dahā Qawmāan 'Ākharīna How many nations We have destroyed because of their iniquities and replaced them by other nations![21.11] وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَة ٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَة ً وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْما ً آخَرِينَ
Falammā 'Aĥassū Ba'sanā 'Idhā Hum Minhā Yarkuđūna When they felt that Our punishment was coming, they took to their heels and fled.[21.12] فَلَمَّا أَحَسُّوا بَأْسَنَا إِذَا هُمْ مِنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ
Lā Tarkuđū Wa Arji`ū 'Ilá Mā 'Utriftum Fīhi Wa Masākinikum La`allakum Tus'alūna They were told: “Do not run away. Return to your luxuries of life and to your homes, so that you may be asked questions."[21.13] لاَ تَرْكُضُوا وَارْجِعُوا إِلَى مَا أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيه ِِ وَمَسَاكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْأَلُونَ
Qālū Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna They replied: “Woe to us! Indeed we were wrongdoers."[21.14] قَالُوا يَاوَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
Famā Zālat Tilka Da`wāhum Ĥattá Ja`alnāhum Ĥaşīdāan Khāmidīna They kept on repeating that statement till We mowed them down, leaving no spark of life in them.[21.15] فَمَا زَالَتْ تِلْكَ دَعْوَاهُمْ حَتَّى جَعَلْنَاهُمْ حَصِيداً خَامِدِينَ
Wa Mā Khalaq As-Samā'a Wa Al-'Arđa Wa Mā Baynahumā Lā`ibīna Our creation of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them is not a game.[21.16] وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لاَعِبِينَ
Law 'Aradnā 'An Nattakhidha Lahwan Lāttakhadhnāhu Min Ladunnā 'In Kunnā Fā`ilīna Had We meant to make it a play ground, We would have done it by Ourself, without giving you discretion to do right and wrong, had We ever done so.[21.17] لَوْ أَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَتَّخِذَ لَهْوا ً لاَتَّخَذْنَاه ُُ مِنْ لَدُنَّا إِنْ كُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ
Bal Naqdhifu Bil-Ĥaqqi `Alá Al-Bāţili Fayadmaghuhu Fa'idhā Huwa Zāhiqun Wa Lakumu Al-Waylu Mimmā Taşifūna Nay! We give falsehood a violent blow with the Truth to knock it out and behold! Falsehood vanishes away. Woe be to you, for all the false gods you have invented.[21.18] بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُه ُُ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِق ٌ وَلَكُمُ الْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ
Wa Lahu Man As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Man `Indahu Lā Yastakbirūna `An `Ibādatihi Wa Lā Yastaĥsirūna To Him belongs all that exists in the heavens and in the earth; and the angels, who are in His very presence, are not too proud to serve Him, nor do they feel wearied of His service.[21.19] وَلَه ُُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهُ لاَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِه ِِ وَلاَ يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ
Yusabbiĥūna Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra Lā Yafturūna They glorify Him night and day; and do not pause.[21.20] يُسَبِّحُونَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لاَ يَفْتُرُونَ
'Am Attakhadhū 'Ālihatan Mina Al-'Arđi Hum Yunshirūna Have the earthly deities, that they have taken for worship, the power to raise the dead?[21.21] أَمْ اتَّخَذُوا آلِهَة ً مِنَ الأَرْضِ هُمْ يُنشِرُونَ
Law Kāna Fīhimā 'Ālihatun 'Illā Al-Lahu Lafasadatā Fasubĥāna Al-Lahi Rabbi Al-`Arshi `Ammā Yaşifūna If there were other gods in the heavens or in the earth besides Allah, both the heavens and earth would have been in a state of disorder. Glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Throne, absolutely free is He from the falsehood that they attribute to Him.[21.22] لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَا آلِهَة ٌ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا فَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ
Lā Yus'alu `Ammā Yaf`alu Wa Hum Yus'alūna He is accountable to none about what He does, but they are accountable to Him.[21.23] لاَ يُسْأَلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ وَهُمْ يُسْأَلُونَ
'Am Attakhadhū Min Dūnihi 'Ālihatan Qul Hātū Burhānakumdhā Dhikru Man Ma`iya Wa Dhikru Man Qablī Bal 'Aktharuhum Lā Ya`lamūna Al-Ĥaqqa Fahum Mu`rūna Even then, have they taken other deities for worship besides Him? Ask them: “Show us your proof: here is this reminder (Al-Qur’an) for the people of my time and it also contains the reminder of those before me." But most of them have no knowledge of Reality, and that is why they have turned away.[21.24] أَمْ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَة ً قُلْ هَاتُوا بُرْهَانَكُمْ هَذَا ذِكْرُ مَنْ مَعِيَ وَذِكْرُ مَنْ قَبْلِي بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ الْحَقَّ فَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ
Wa Mā 'Arsalnā Min Qablika Min Rasūl 'Iinillā Nūĥī 'Ilayhi 'Annahu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā 'Anā Fā`budūni The fact is that to every Rasool whom We sent before you, We revealed the same Message: “There is no god but Me, so worship Me Alone."[21.25] وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ مِنْ رَسُول إٍِلاَّ نُوحِي إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ~َ إِلاَّ أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ
Wa Qālū Attakhadha Ar-Raĥmānu Waladāan Subĥānahu Bal `Ibādun Mukramūna In spite of receiving that message, they still say: “The Beneficent (Allah) has offspring!” Glory be to Him! The angels are but His honored servants.[21.26] وَقَالُوا اتَّخَذَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَلَدا ً سُبْحَانَه ُُ بَلْ عِبَاد ٌ مُكْرَمُونَ
Lā Yasbiqūnahu Bil-Qawli Wa Hum Bi'amrihi Ya`malūna They do not precede Him in speaking and they act according to His commandment.[21.27] لاَ يَسْبِقُونَه ُُ بِالْقَوْلِ وَهُمْ بِأَمْرِه ِِ يَعْمَلُونَ
Ya`lamu Mā Bayna 'Aydīhim Wa Mā Khalfahum Wa Lā Yashfa`ūna 'Illā Limani Artađá Wa Hum Min Khashyatihi Mushfiqūna He knows what is before them and what is behind them and they do not intercede except for the one whom He approves, and for fear of Him they tremble.[21.28] يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يَشْفَعُونَ إِلاَّ لِمَنِ ارْتَضَى وَهُمْ مِنْ خَشْيَتِه ِِ مُشْفِقُونَ
Wa Man Yaqul Minhum 'Innī 'Ilahun Min Dūnihi Fadhālika Najzīhi Jahannama Kadhālika Naj Až-Žālimīna If any of them were to say: “I am also a deity besides Him,” We would send him to hell, thus shall We reward the wrongdoers.[21.29] وَمَنْ يَقُلْ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّي إِلَه ٌ ٌ مِنْ دُونِه ِِ فَذَلِكَ نَجْزِيه ِِ جَهَنَّمَ كَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الظَّالِمِينَ
'Awalam Yará Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'Anna As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđa Kānatā Ratqāan Fafataqnāhumā Wa Ja`alnā Mina Al-Mā'i Kulla Shay'in Ĥayyin 'Afalā Yu'uminūna Have not the unbelievers ever considered that the skies and the earth were once one mass, then We split them asunder? And We have created every living thing from water. Will they still not believe?[21.30] أَوَلَمْ يَرَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقا ً فَفَتَقْنَاهُمَا وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ أَفَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ
Wa Ja`alnā Fī Al-'Arđi Rawāsiya 'An Tamīda Bihim Wa Ja`alnā Fīhā Fijājāan Subulāan La`allahum Yahtadūna And We have planted mountains on earth lest it should tilt to one side with them (the weight of people) and We left between them open passages so that they may find the right direction.[21.31] وَجَعَلْنَا فِي الأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَنْ تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجا ً سُبُلا ً لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ
Wa Ja`alnā As-Samā'a Saqfāan Maĥfūžāan Wa Hum `An 'Āyātihā Mu`rūna And We have made the sky a safe canopy: yet they are heedless to these signs.[21.32] وَجَعَلْنَا السَّمَاءَ سَقْفا ً مَحْفُوظا ً وَهُمْ عَنْ آيَاتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ
Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Khalaqa Al-Layla Wa An-Nahāra Wa Ash-Shamsa Wa Al-Qamara Kullun Fī Falakin Yasbaĥūna He is the One Who has created the night and the day and the sun and the moon: all (the celestial bodies) move swiftly in orbits of their own.[21.33] وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ كُلّ ٌ فِي فَلَك ٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
Wa Mā Ja`alnā Libasharin Min Qablika Al-Khulda 'Afa'īn Mitta Fahumu Al-Khālidūna O Muhammad, We have not granted immortality to any human before you: so if you are to die, will these unbelievers live forever?[21.34] وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَر ٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدَ أَفَإِيْنْ مِتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَالِدُونَ
Kullu Nafsin Dhā'iqatu Al-Mawti Wa Nablūkum Bish-Sharri Wa Al-Khayri Fitnatan Wa 'Ilaynā Turja`ūna Every soul is bound to have the taste of death. We are putting all of you to a test by passing you through bad and good conditions, and finally you shall return to Us.[21.35] كُلُّ نَفْس ٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ وَنَبْلُوكُمْ بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَة ً وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ
Wa 'Idhā Ra'āka Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'In Yattakhidhūnaka 'Illā Huzūan 'Ahadhā Al-Ladhī Yadhkuru 'Ālihatakum Wa Hum Bidhikri Ar-Raĥmāni Hum Kāfirūna When the unbelievers see you they do not take you but for one to be scoffed at, saying: “Is this the one who talks against your gods?” And they themselves deny the mention of the Compassionate (Allah).[21.36] وَإِذَا رَآكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلاَّ هُزُواً أَهَذَا الَّذِي يَذْكُرُ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَهُمْ بِذِكْرِ الرَّحْمَنِ هُمْ كَافِرُونَ
Khuliqa Al-'Insānu Min `Ajalin Sa'urīkum 'Āyātī Falā Tasta`jilūni Man is a creature of haste (impatience). Soon I will show you My signs, therefore, you need not be impatient.[21.37] خُلِقَ الإِنسَانُ مِنْ عَجَل ٍ سَأُرِيكُمْ آيَاتِي فَلاَ تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ
Wa Yaqūlūna Matá Hādhā Al-Wa`du 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna They ask: “When will this promise be fulfilled if you are telling the truth?”[21.38] وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَى هَذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Law Ya`lamu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Ĥīna Lā Yakuffūna `An Wujūhihimu An-Nāra Wa Lā `An Žuhūrihim Wa Lā Hum Yunşarūna They would not have asked this question if only the unbelievers knew the Day when they will be able to protect neither their faces from the fire of hell nor their backs, nor will they be helped![21.39] لَوْ يَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا حِينَ لاَ يَكُفُّونَ عَنْ وُجُوهِهِمُ النَّارَ وَلاَ عَنْ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ
Bal Ta'tīhim Baghtatan Fatabhatuhum Falā Yastaţī`ūna Raddahā Wa Lā Hum Yunžarūna Nay, it will come to them all of a sudden and overpower them so abruptly that they shall neither be able to avert it nor shall they get any respite.[21.40] بَلْ تَأْتِيهِمْ بَغْتَة ً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلاَ هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ
Wa Laqadi Astuhzi'a Birusulin Min Qablika Faĥāqa Bial-Ladhīna Sakhirū Minhum Mā Kānū Bihi Yastahzi'ūn As for their scoffing, the Rasools before you were also scoffed at; but their scoffers were hemmed in by the very thing at which they used to scoff.[21.41] وَلَقَدِ اسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُل ٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِالَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا مِنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا بِه ِِ يَسْتَهْزِئُون
Qul Man Yakla'uukum Bil-Layli Wa An-Nahāri Mina Ar-Raĥmāni Bal Hum `An Dhikri Rabbihim Mu`rūna Ask them, “Who is there to protect you by night and by day from the wrath of the Compassionate?” Yet they turn away from the admonition of their Rabb.[21.42] قُلْ مَنْ يَكْلَؤُكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ بَلْ هُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ
'Am Lahum 'Ālihatun Tamna`uhum Min Dūninā Lā Yastaţī`ūna Naşra 'Anfusihim Wa Lā Hum Minnā Yuşĥabūna Do they have such gods who can defend them against Us? Their gods can neither help themselves nor can they protect themselves from Us.[21.43] أَمْ لَهُمْ آلِهَة ٌ تَمْنَعُهُمْ مِنْ دُونِنَا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ مِنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ
Bal Matta`nā Hā'uulā' Wa 'Ābā'ahum Ĥattá Ţāla `Alayhimu Al-`Umuru 'Afalā Yarawna 'Annā Na'tī Al-'Arđa Nanquşuhā Min 'Aţrāfihā 'Afahumu Al-Ghālibūna The fact is that We gave the good things of this life to them and their forefathers until they got used to these things because of their prolonged lives; can they not see how We gradually reduce the land which was in their control and curtail it from all sides? Do they still expect to be victorious against Us?[21.44] بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَاؤُلاَء وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّى طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُ أَفَلاَ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِي الأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا أَفَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ
Qul 'Innamā 'Undhirukum Bil-Waĥyi Wa Lā Yasma`u Aş-Şummu Ad-Du`ā'a 'Idhā Mā Yundharūna Tell them, “I am warning you on the authority of Revelation,” but the deaf choose not to listen to the call when they are warned![21.45] قُلْ إِنَّمَا أُنذِرُكُمْ بِالْوَحْيِ وَلاَ يَسْمَعُ الصُّمُّ الدُّعَاءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ
Wa La'in Massat/hum Nafĥatun Min `Adhābi Rabbika Layaqūlunna Yā Waylanā 'Innā Kunnā Žālimīna Yet even if a breath from the Wrath of your Rabb was to touch them, they will certainly say, “Woe to us! No doubt we were wrongdoers."[21.46] وَلَئِنْ مَسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَة ٌ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَاوَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ
Wa Nađa`u Al-Mawāzīna Al-Qisţa Liyawmi Al-Qiyāmati Falā Tužlamu Nafsun Shay'āan Wa 'In Kāna Mithqāla Ĥabbatin Min Khardalin 'Ataynā Bihā Wa Kafá Binā Ĥāsibīna On the Day of Judgement We shall set up scales of justice so that no one will be dealt with unjustly in any way; even if someone has an act as small as a grain of a mustard seed, We will bring it to account, and sufficient are We to settle the accounts.[21.47] وَنَضَعُ الْمَوَازِينَ الْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ فَلاَ تُظْلَمُ نَفْس ٌ شَيْئا ً وَإِنْ كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّة ٍ مِنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا وَكَفَى بِنَا حَاسِبِينَ
Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā Mūsá Wa Hārūna Al-Furqāna Wa Điyā'an Wa Dhikrāan Lilmuttaqīna Certainly, We granted to Musa (Moses) and Haroon (Aaron) the Criterion of right and wrong, a light and a reminder for those righteous people[21.48] وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى وَهَارُونَ الْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَاء ً وَذِكْرا ً لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
Al-Ladhīna Yakhshawna Rabbahum Bil-Ghaybi Wa Hum Mina As-Sā`ati Mushfiqūna who fear their Rabb though they have not seen Him, and dread the Day of Judgment.[21.49] الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ وَهُمْ مِنَ السَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ
Wa Hadhā Dhikrun Mubārakun 'Anzalnāhu 'Afa'antum Lahu Munkirūna And now We have revealed this blessed Reminder (The Qur’an). Will you then deny it?[21.50] وَهَذَا ذِكْر ٌ مُبَارَكٌ أَنزَلْنَاهُ~ُ أَفَأَنْتُمْ لَه ُُ مُنكِرُونَ
Wa Laqad 'Ātaynā 'Ibrāhīma Rushdahu Min Qablu Wa Kunnā Bihi `Ālimīna Even before that We blessed Ibrمhïm (Abraham) with rectitude, for We knew him well.[21.51] وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ رُشْدَه ُُ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِه ِِ عَالِمِينَ
'Idh Qāla Li'abīhi Wa Qawmihi Mā Hadhihi At-Tamāthīlu Allatī 'Antum Lahā `Ākifūna Remember that occasion when Ibrمhïm asked his father and his people, “What are these images to which you are so devoted?”[21.52] إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيه ِِ وَقَوْمِه ِِ مَا هَذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلُ الَّتِي أَنْتُمْ لَهَا عَاكِفُونَ
Qālū Wajadnā 'Ābā'anā Lahā `Ābidīna They replied, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.”[21.53] قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا لَهَا عَابِدِينَ
Qāla Laqad Kuntum 'Antum Wa 'Ābā'uukum Fī Đalālin Mubīnin He said “Then certainly both you and your forefathers have been in manifest error."[21.54] قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ فِي ضَلاَل ٍ مُبِين ٍ
Qālū 'Aji'tanā Bil-Ĥaqqi 'Am 'Anta Mina Al-Lā`ibīna They asked, “Have you brought us the Truth or are you one of the triflers?”[21.55] قَالُوا أَجِئْتَنَا بِالْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنْتَ مِنَ اللاَّعِبِينَ
Qāla Bal Rabbukum Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Al-Ladhī Faţarahunna Wa 'Anā `Alá Dhālikum Mina Ash-Shāhidīna He replied, “Nay! Your Rabb is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It is He Who has created them; and I am of those who bear witness to this.[21.56] قَالَ بَل رَبُّكُمْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ الَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا عَلَى ذَلِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ
Wa Tālllahi La'akīdanna 'Aşnāmakum Ba`da 'An Tuwallū Mudbirīna By Allah! I will certainly plan against your idols when you turn and go away."[21.57] وَتَاللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَامَكُمْ بَعْدَ أَنْ تُوَلُّوا مُدْبِرِينَ
Faja`alahum Judhādhāan 'Illā Kabīrāan Lahum La`allahum 'Ilayhi Yarji`ūna So he broke them all in pieces, except the biggest of them, so that they might turn to it.[21.58] فَجَعَلَهُمْ جُذَاذا ً إِلاَّ كَبِيرا ً لَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ يَرْجِعُونَ
Qālū Man Fa`ala Hādhā Bi'ālihatinā 'Innahu Lamina Až-Žālimīna (On their return when they saw the plight of their idols), some asked, “Who has done this to our gods? He must surely be a wicked person!”[21.59] قَالُوا مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا إِنَّه ُُ لَمِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Qālū Sami`nā Fatáan Yadhkuruhum Yuqālu Lahu 'Ibrāhīmu Others replied, “We heard a youth, called Ibrمhïm, talking about them."[21.60] قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا فَتى ً يَذْكُرُهُمْ يُقَالُ لَهُ~ُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ
Qālū Fa'tū Bihi `Alá 'A`yuni An-Nāsi La`allahum Yash/hadūna They said, “Then bring him here before the eyes of the people, so that they may witness how severely he is punished."[21.61] قَالُوا فَأْتُوا بِه ِِ عَلَى أَعْيُنِ النَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ
Qālū 'A'anta Fa`alta Hādhā Bi'ālihatinā Yā 'Ibrāhīmu When Ibrمhïm came, they asked, “O Ibrمhïm, are you the one who has done this to our gods?”[21.62] قَالُوا أَأَنْتَ فَعَلْتَ هَذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا يَاإِبْرَاهِيمُ
Qāla Bal Fa`alahu Kabīruhumdhā Fās'alūhum 'In Kānū Yanţiqūna He replied, “Surely someone has done it; the chief of them, that is! Ask them, if they can speak!”[21.63] قَالَ بَلْ فَعَلَه ُُ كَبِيرُهُمْ هَذَا فَاسْأَلُوهُمْ إِنْ كَانُوا يَنطِقُونَ
Faraja`ū 'Ilá 'Anfusihim Faqālū 'Innakum 'Antumu Až-Žālimūna Thereupon they turned to search their own consciences, and said to themselves, “Surely you yourselves are the wrongdoers!”[21.64] فَرَجَعُوا إِلَى أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ أَنْتُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ
Thumma Nukisū `Alá Ru'ūsihim Laqad `Alimta Mā Hā'uulā' Yanţiqūna Confounded as they were, lowering their heads they said, “You know fully well that they cannot speak."[21.65] ثُمَّ نُكِسُوا عَلَى رُءُوسِهِمْ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا هَاؤُلاَء يَنطِقُونَ
Qāla 'Afata`budūna Min Dūni Al-Lahi Mā Lā Yanfa`ukum Shay'āan Wa Lā Yađurrukum At this Ibrمhïm said, “Do you then worship these deities, instead of Allah, who can neither benefit nor harm you?[21.66] قَالَ أَفَتَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لاَ يَنفَعُكُمْ شَيْئا ً وَلاَ يَضُرُّكُمْ
'Uffin Lakum Wa Limā Ta`budūna Min Dūni Al-Lahi 'Afalā Ta`qilūna Shame on you and on those deities you worship besides Allah! Have you no sense at all?”[21.67] أُفّ ٍ لَكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ
Qālū Ĥarriqūhu Wa Anşurū 'Ālihatakum 'In Kuntum Fā`ilīna They cried, “Burn him alive and avenge your gods, if you want to take any action."[21.68] قَالُوا حَرِّقُوه ُُ وَانصُرُوا آلِهَتَكُمْ إِنْ كُنتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ
Qulnā Yā Nāru Kūnī Bardāan Wa Salāmāan `Alá 'Ibrāhīma When they threw him in the fire, We commanded, “O fire! Be cool and comfortable for Ibrمhïm."[21.69] قُلْنَا يَا نَارُ كُونِي بَرْدا ً وَسَلاَماً عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ
Wa 'Arādū Bihi Kaydāan Faja`alnāhumu Al-'Akhsarīna They sought to harm him, but We made them the big losers.[21.70] وَأَرَادُوا بِه ِِ كَيْدا ً فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الأَخْسَرِينَ
Wa Najjaynāhu Wa Lūţāan 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Allatī Bāraknā Fīhā Lil`ālamīna We delivered him and his nephew Lüt (Lot) and directed them to the land which We have blessed for all the people of the world.[21.71] وَنَجَّيْنَاه ُُ وَلُوطا ً إِلَى الأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَالَمِينَ
Wa Wahabnā Lahu 'Isĥāqa Wa Ya`qūba Nāfilatan Wa Kullāan Ja`alnā Şāliĥīna We gave him a son Ishمq (Isaac) and then a grandson Ya'qoob (Jacob); and We made each of them a righteous man.[21.72] وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ~ُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ نَافِلَة ً وَكُلاّ ً جَعَلْنَا صَالِحِينَ
Wa Ja`alnāhum 'A'immatan Yahdūna Bi'amrinā Wa 'Awĥaynā 'Ilayhim Fi`la Al-Khayrāti Wa 'Iqāma Aş-Şalāati Wa 'Ītā'a Az-Zakāati Wa Kānū Lanā `Ābidīna We made them leaders who guided other people by Our command and We sent them revelations to do good deeds, establish Salah and pay Zakah. Us Alone did they serve.[21.73] وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَئِمَّة ً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ فِعْلَ الْخَيْرَاتِ وَإِقَامَ الصَّلاَةِ وَإِيتَاءَ الزَّكَاةِ وَكَانُوا لَنَا عَابِدِينَ
Wa Lūţāan 'Ātaynāhu Ĥukmāan Wa `Ilmāan Wa Najjaynāhu Mina Al-Qaryati Allatī Kānat Ta`malu Al-Khabā'itha 'Innahum Kānū Qawma Saw'in Fāsiqīna To Lüt (Lot) We gave wisdom and knowledge, and We delivered him from the town which practiced abominations - surely its inhabitants were very wicked transgressors[21.74] وَلُوطا ً آتَيْنَاه ُُ حُكْما ً وَعِلْما ً وَنَجَّيْنَاه ُُ مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَعْمَلُ الْخَبَائِثَ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمَ سَوْء ٍ فَاسِقِينَ
Wa 'Adkhalnāhu Fī Raĥmatinā 'Innahu Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna - and We admitted him to Our mercy: for he was of the righteous people.[21.75] وَأَدْخَلْنَاه ُُ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّه ُُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Wa Nūĥāan 'Idh Nādá Min Qablu Fāstajabnā Lahu Fanajjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi Before them Nüh (Noah) prayed to Us, We accepted his prayer and delivered him and his family from the great calamity.[21.76] وَنُوحا ً إِذْ نَادَى مِنْ قَبْلُ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَه ُُ فَنَجَّيْنَاه ُُ وَأَهْلَه ُُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ
Wa Naşarnāhu Mina Al-Qawmi Al-Ladhīna Kadhdhabū Bi'āyātinā 'Innahum Kānū Qawma Saw'in Fa'aghraqnāhum 'Ajma`īna We helped him against those people who had denied Our revelations; surely they were an evil people, so We drowned them all in the Great Flood.[21.77] وَنَصَرْنَاه ُُ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمَ سَوْء ٍ فَأَغْرَقْنَاهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
Wa Dāwūda Wa Sulaymāna 'Idh Yaĥkumāni Fī Al-Ĥarthi 'Idh Nafashat Fīhi Ghanamu Al-Qawmi Wa Kunnā Liĥukmihim Shāhidīna We also bestowed favors upon Dawُُd (David) and Sulaimمn (Solomon): when the two were judging a case regarding the field into which the sheep of certain people had strayed by night, and We were watching them to arrive at judgment,[21.78] وَدَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ إِذْ يَحْكُمَانِ فِي الْحَرْثِ إِذْ نَفَشَتْ فِيه ِِ غَنَمُ الْقَوْمِ وَكُنَّا لِحُكْمِهِمْ شَاهِدِينَ
Fafahhamnāhā Sulaymāna Wa Kullāan 'Ātaynā Ĥukmāan Wa `Ilmāan Wa Sakhkharnā Ma`a Dāwūda Al-Jibāla Yusabbiĥna Wa Aţ-Ţayra Wa Kunnā Fā`ilīna at that time We gave Sulaimمn insight to arrive at the right decision, although We had given wisdom and knowledge to both of them. We caused the mountains and the birds to celebrate Our praises with Dawُُd; it was We Who made this happen.[21.79] فَفَهَّمْنَاهَا سُلَيْمَانَ وَكُلاّ ً آتَيْنَا حُكْما ً وَعِلْما ً وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُودَ الْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَ وَكُنَّا فَاعِلِينَ
Wa `Allamnāhu Şan`ata Labūsin Lakum Lituĥşinakum Min Ba'sikum Fahal 'Antum Shākirūna We taught him the armor’s craft, so that they might protect you in your wars: yet are you ever grateful?[21.80] وَعَلَّمْنَاه ُُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوس ٍ لَكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُمْ مِنْ بَأْسِكُمْ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ شَاكِرُونَ
Wa Lisulaymāna Ar-Rīĥa `Āşifatan Tajrī Bi'amrihi 'Ilá Al-'Arđi Allatī Bāraknā Fīhā Wa Kunnā Bikulli Shay'in `Ālimīna We made the raging winds subservient to Sulaimمn, pursuing its course by his command to the land which We had blessed; and We have knowledge of everything.[21.81] وَلِسُلَيْمَانَ الرِّيحَ عَاصِفَة ً تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ~ِ إِلَى الأَرْضِ الَّتِي بَارَكْنَا فِيهَا وَكُنَّا بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَالِمِينَ
Wa Mina Ash-Shayāţīni Man Yaghūşūna Lahu Wa Ya`malūna `Amalāan Dūna Dhālika Wa Kunnā Lahum Ĥāfižīna And We had subjected to him many of the shaitمns who dived for him into the sea and performed other duties besides this; and We were the One Who had control over them for him.[21.82] وَمِنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ مَنْ يَغُوصُونَ لَه ُُ وَيَعْمَلُونَ عَمَلا ً دُونَ ذَلِكَ وَكُنَّا لَهُمْ حَافِظِينَ
Wa 'Ayyūba 'Idh Nādá Rabbahu 'Annī Massanī Ađ-Đurru Wa 'Anta 'Arĥamu Ar-Rāĥimīna Similarly We blessed Ayüb, when he prayed to his Rabb saying, “I am badly afflicted with disease: but of all those who show mercy You are the most Merciful."[21.83] وَأَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَى رَبَّهُ~ُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِي الضُّرُّ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
Fāstajabnā Lahu Fakashafnā Mā Bihi Min Đurrin Wa 'Ātaynāhu 'Ahlahu Wa Mithlahum Ma`ahum Raĥmatan Min `Indinā Wa Dhikrá Lil`ābidīna We accepted his prayer and relieved his affliction, and restored not only his family but also as many more with them as a favor from Us so that it may serve as a reminder to Our worshippers.[21.84] فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَه ُُ فَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِه ِِ مِنْ ضُرّ ٍ وَآتَيْنَاهُ~ُ أَهْلَه ُُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَة ً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا وَذِكْرَى لِلْعَابِدِينَ
Wa 'Ismā`īla Wa 'Idrīsa Wa Dhā Al-Kifli Kullun Mina Aş-Şābirīna Likewise, We blessed Isma‘il (Ishmael), Idrïs and Zul-kifl, for all of them practised patience.[21.85] وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِدْرِيسَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ كُلّ ٌ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ
Wa 'Adkhalnāhum Fī Raĥmatinā 'Innahum Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna We admitted them to Our Mercy, for they were of the righteous people.[21.86] وَأَدْخَلْنَاهُمْ فِي رَحْمَتِنَا إِنَّهُمْ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ
Wa Dhā An-Nūni 'Idh Dhahaba Mughāđibāan Fažanna 'An Lan Naqdira `Alayhi Fanādá Fī Až-Žulumāti 'A
