8) سُورَة الأَنفَال

Yas'alūnaka `Ani Al-'Anfāl Quli Al-'Anfāli Lillahi Wa Ar-Rasūli Fa Attaqū Al-Laha Wa 'Aşliĥū Dhāta Baynikum Wa 'Aţī`ū Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu 'In Kuntum Mu'uminīna They ask you about booty (spoils of war). Tell them: “The Booty belongs to Allah and His Rasool: so fear Allah, end your disputes, and correct the relations among yourselves: obey Allah and His Rasool if you are true believers."[8.1] يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الأَنفَال قُلِ الأَنفَالِ لِلَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ~ُ إِنْ كُنتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ
'Innamā Al-Mu'uminūna Al-Ladhīna 'Idhā Dhukira Al-Lahu Wajilat Qulūbuhum Wa 'Idhā Tuliyat `Alayhim 'Āyātuhu Zādat/hum 'Īmānāan Wa `Alá Rabbihim Yatawakkalūna The true believers are those whose hearts tremble with fear, when the name of Allah is mentioned, and whose faith grows stronger as they listen to His revelations and they put their trust in their Rabb,[8.2] إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُه ُُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانَا ً وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ
Al-Ladhīna Yuqīmūna Aş-Şalāata Wa Mimmā Razaqnāhum Yunfiqūna who establish Salah and spend in charity out of the sustenance which We have given them.[8.3] الَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ الصَّلاَةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ
'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Mu'uminūna Ĥaqqāan Lahum Darajātun `Inda Rabbihim Wa Maghfiratun Wa Rizqun Karīmun They are the ones who are the true believers; they will have exalted ranks with their Rabb, forgiveness for their sins, and honorable sustenance.[8.4] أُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقّا ً لَهُمْ دَرَجَاتٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَمَغْفِرَة ٌ وَرِزْق ٌ كَرِيم ٌ
Kamā 'Akhrajaka Rabbuka Min Baytika Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa 'Inna Farīqāan Mina Al-Mu'uminīna Lakārihūna Your Rabb ordered you to leave your home to fight for justice, but some of the believers were reluctant.[8.5] كَمَا أَخْرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنْ بَيْتِكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقا ً مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَكَارِهُونَ
Yujādilūnaka Fī Al-Ĥaqqi Ba`damā Tabayyana Ka'annamā Yusāqūna 'Ilá Al-Mawti Wa Hum Yanžurūna They argued with you about the truth which had been made clear, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open.[8.6] يُجَادِلُونَكَ فِي الْحَقِّ بَعْدَمَا تَبَيَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى الْمَوْتِ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ
Wa 'Idh Ya`idukumu Al-Lahu 'Iĥdá Aţā'ifatayni 'Annahā Lakum Wa Tawaddūna 'Anna Ghayra Dhāti Ash-Shawkati Takūnu Lakum Wa Yurīdu Al-Lahu 'An Yuĥiqqa Al-Ĥaqqa Bikalimātihi Wa Yaqţa`a Dābira Al-Kāfirīna Remember, Allah promised you victory over one of the two enemy parties and you wished for the one which was unarmed but Allah intended to prove the truth to be true according to His words and to cut off the roots of the unbelievers,[8.7] وَإِذْ يَعِدُكُمُ اللَّهُ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمْ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيْرَ ذَاتِ الشَّوْكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِه ِِ وَيَقْطَعَ دَابِرَ الْكَافِرِينَ
Liyuĥiqqa Al-Ĥaqqa Wa Yubţila Al-Bāţila Wa Law Kariha Al-Mujrimūna so that truth should come out as truth and falsehood should be proved as false, even though the criminals wished otherwise.[8.8] لِيُحِقَّ الْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ الْبَاطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ
'Idh Tastaghīthūna Rabbakum Fāstajāba Lakum 'Annī Mumiddukum Bi'alfin Mina Al-Malā'ikati Murdifīna When you prayed to your Rabb for help, He answered: “I will assist you with one thousand angels, one after another."[8.9] إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّي مُمِدُّكُمْ بِأَلْف ٍ مِنَ الْمَلاَئِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ
Wa Mā Ja`alahu Al-Lahu 'Illā Bushrá Wa Litaţma'inna Bihi Qulūbukum Wa Mā An-Naşru 'Illā Min `Indi Al-Lahi 'Inna Al-Laha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun By this good news, Allah sought to comfort your heart, for victory comes only from Allah; surely Allah is Mighty, Wise.[8.10] وَمَا جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ إِلاَّ بُشْرَى وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ بِه ِِ قُلُوبُكُمْ وَمَا النَّصْرُ إِلاَّ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيم ٌ
'Idh Yughashshīkumu An-Nu`āsa 'Amanatan Minhu Wa Yunazzilu `Alaykum Mina As-Samā'i Mā'an Liyuţahhirakum Bihi Wa Yudh/hiba `Ankum Rijza Ash-Shayţāni Wa Liyarbiţa `Alá Qulūbikum Wa Yuthabbita Bihi Al-'Aqdāma Remember (before the battle of Badr) when He caused drowsiness to overcome you as an assurance from Himself, and sent down water from the sky to cleanse you and to remove from you the uncleanliness caused by Shaitمn, to strengthen your hearts and to steady your feet therewith.[8.11] إِذْ يُغَشِّيكُمُ النُّعَاسَ أَمَنَة ً مِنْهُ وَيُنَزِّلُ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاء ً لِيُطَهِّرَكُمْ بِه ِِ وَيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمْ رِجْزَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَلِيَرْبِطَ عَلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتَ بِهِ الأَقْدَامَ
'Idh Yūĥī Rabbuka 'Ilá Al-Malā'ikati 'Annī Ma`akum Fathabbitū Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Sa'ulqī Fī Qulūbi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Ar-Ru`ba Fāđribū Fawqa Al-'A`nāqi Wa Ađribū Minhum Kulla Banānin Then your Rabb revealed His will to the angels: “I am with you, give courage to the believers. I will cast panic into the hearts of the unbelievers, therefore, smite their necks and beat every joint of their bodies."[8.12] إِذْ يُوحِي رَبُّكَ إِلَى الْمَلاَئِكَةِ أَنِّي مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُوا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا سَأُلْقِي فِي قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الرُّعْبَ فَاضْرِبُوا فَوْقَ الأَعْنَاقِ وَاضْرِبُوا مِنْهُمْ كُلَّ بَنَان ٍ
Dhālika Bi'annahum Shāqqū Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Man Yushāqiqi Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Fa'inna Al-Laha Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi This is because they defied Allah and His Rasool. Whoever defies Allah and His Rasool should know that Allah is strict in retribution,[8.13] ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُُ وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
Dhālikum Fadhūqūhu Wa 'Anna Lilkāfirīna `Adhāba An-Nāri that it is the reality, so taste it, and there will also be the torture of hellfire for the unbelievers.[8.14] ذَلِكُمْ فَذُوقُوه ُُ وَأَنَّ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Idhā Laqītumu Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Zaĥfāan Falā Tuwallūhumu Al-'Adbāra O believers! When you encounter the unbelievers in a battle, never turn your backs to them,[8.15] يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا زَحْفا ً فَلاَ تُوَلُّوهُمُ الأَدْبَارَ
Wa Man Yuwallihim Yawma'idhin Duburahu 'Illā Mutaĥarrifāan Liqitālin 'Aw Mutaĥayyizāan 'Ilá Fi'atin Faqad Bā'a Bighađabin Mina Al-Lahi Wa Ma'wāhu Jahannamu Wa Bi'sa Al-Maşīru and whoever turns his back to them on such an occasion - unless it be a strategy of war, or to join towards a detachment - shall incur the wrath of Allah and his abode shall be hell, and how awful shall be that dwelling![8.16] وَمَنْ يُوَلِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذ ٍ دُبُرَهُ~ُ إِلاَّ مُتَحَرِّفا ً لِقِتَالٍ أَوْ مُتَحَيِّزا ً إِلَى فِئَة ٍ فَقَدْ بَاءَ بِغَضَب ٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَمَأْوَاه ُُ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ
Falam Taqtulūhum Wa Lakinna Al-Laha Qatalahum Wa Mā Ramayta 'Idh Ramayta Wa Lakinna Al-Laha Ramá Wa Liyubliya Al-Mu'uminīna Minhu Balā'an Ĥasanāan 'Inna Al-Laha Samī`un `Alīmun In fact, it was not you who killed them, but it was Allah Who killed them; it was not you who threw the handful of sand, but it was Allah Who threw it so that He might pass the believers successfully through this excellent trial; surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.[8.17] فَلَمْ تَقْتُلُوهُمْ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمْ وَمَا رَمَيْتَ إِذْ رَمَيْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ رَمَى وَلِيُبْلِيَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بَلاَءً حَسَنا ً إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيم ٌ
Dhālikum Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Mūhinu Kaydi Al-Kāfirīna This is His dealing with you: as for the unbelievers, Allah will surely frustrate their evil plots.[8.18] ذَلِكُمْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَيْدِ الْكَافِرِينَ
'In Tastaftiĥū Faqad Jā'akumu Al-Fatĥu Wa 'In Tantahū Fahuwa Khayrun Lakum Wa 'In Ta`ūdū Na`ud Wa Lan Tughniya `Ankum Fi'atukum Shay'āan Wa Law Kathurat Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Ma`a Al-Mu'uminīna O unbelievers! You wanted a decision; lo! The decision, in shape of the believers' victory, has come to you. Now if you desist, it will be better for you, and if you repeat your act of war against the believers, so shall We repeat the act of providing them assistance, and your forces, however large in number they may be, shall avail you nothing, for verily Allah is with the believers.[8.19] إِنْ تَسْتَفْتِحُوا فَقَدْ جَاءَكُمُ الْفَتْحُ وَإِنْ تَنتَهُوا فَهُوَ خَيْر ٌ لَكُمْ وَإِنْ تَعُودُوا نَعُدْ وَلَنْ تُغْنِيَ عَنكُمْ فِئَتُكُمْ شَيْئا ً وَلَوْ كَثُرَتْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Aţī`ū Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Lā Tawallaw `Anhu Wa 'Antum Tasma`ūna O believers! Obey Allah and his Rasool and do not turn your back to him, now that you have heard all.[8.20] يَاأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُُ وَلاَ تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ
Wa Lā Takūnū Kālladhīna Qālū Sami`nā Wa Hum Lā Yasma`ūna Do not be like those who say: “We hear,” but give no heed to what they hear.[8.21] وَلاَ تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ قَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لاَ يَسْمَعُونَ
'Inna Sharra Ad-Dawābbi `Inda Al-Lahi Aş-Şummu Al-Bukmu Al-Ladhīna Lā Ya`qilūna For the worst animals in the sight of Allah are those deaf and dumb people who do not use common sense.[8.22] إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الصُّمُّ الْبُكْمُ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْقِلُونَ
Wa Law `Alima Al-Lahu Fīhim Khayrāan La'asma`ahum Wa Law 'Asma`ahum Latawallaw Wa Hum Mu`rūna Had Allah perceived any virtue in them He would have indeed endowed them with hearing. Had he made them (those without virtue) hear, they would have turned away and refused to listen.[8.23] وَلَوْ عَلِمَ اللَّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرا ً لَأَسْمَعَهُمْ وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوا وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Astajībū Lillahi Wa Lilrrasūli 'Idhā Da`ākum Limā Yuĥyīkum Wa A`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Yaĥūlu Bayna Al-Mar'i Wa Qalbihi Wa 'Annahu 'Ilayhi Tuĥsharūna O believers! Respond to the call of Allah and His Rasool, when He calls you to that which gives you life; and know that Allah stands between man and his heart, and that it is He in Whose presence you shall all be assembled.[8.24] يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِه ِِ وَأَنَّهُ~ُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ
Wa Attaqū Fitnatan Lā Tuşībanna Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Minkum Khāşşatan Wa A`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi Guard yourselves against temptation. The wrongdoers among you are not the only ones who will be tempted; and know that Allah is strict in retribution.[8.25] وَاتَّقُوا فِتْنَة ً لاَ تُصِيبَنَّ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا مِنْكُمْ خَاصَّة ً وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
Wa Adhkurū 'Idh 'Antum Qalīlun Mustađ`afūna Fī Al-'Arđi Takhāfūna 'An Yatakhaţţafakumu An-Nāsu Fa'āwākum Wa 'Ayyadakum Binaşrihi Wa Razaqakum Mina Aţ-Ţayyibāti La`allakum Tashkurūna Call to mind how He gave you shelter when you were a few in number and were oppressed in the land, ever fearing lest the enemy would kidnap you. He made you strong with His help and provided you a safe asylum and gave you pure things for sustenance so that you may give thanks.[8.26] وَاذْكُرُوا إِذْ أَنْتُمْ قَلِيل ٌ مُسْتَضْعَفُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ تَخَافُونَ أَنْ يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ النَّاسُ فَآوَاكُمْ وَأَيَّدَكُمْ بِنَصْرِه ِِ وَرَزَقَكُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū Lā Takhūnū Al-Laha Wa Ar-Rasūla Wa Takhūnū 'Amānātikum Wa 'Antum Ta`lamūna O believers! Do not betray the trust of Allah and His Rasool, nor violate your trusts knowingly.[8.27] يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لاَ تَخُونُوا اللَّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوا أَمَانَاتِكُمْ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Wa A`lamū 'Annamā 'Amwālukum Wa 'Awlādukum Fitnatun Wa 'Anna Al-Laha `Indahu 'Ajrun `Ažīmun You should know that your wealth and your children are, in fact, a test for you, and that Allah is He with Whom is your mighty reward.[8.28] وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلاَدُكُمْ فِتْنَة ٌ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ~ُ أَجْرٌ عَظِيم ٌ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'In Tattaqū Al-Laha Yaj`al Lakum Furqānāan Wa Yukaffir `Ankum Sayyi'ātikum Wa Yaghfir Lakum Wa Allāhu Dhū Al-Fađli Al-`Ažīmi O believers! If you fear Allah He will grant you a criterion (to judge between right and wrong), do away with your sins and forgive you. Allah is the Lord of Mighty Grace.[8.29] يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ فُرْقَانا ً وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ
Wa 'Idh Yamkuru Bika Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Liyuthbitūka 'Aw Yaqtulūka 'Aw Yukhrijūka Wa Yamkurūna Wa Yamkuru Al-Lahu Wa Allāhu Khayru Al-Mākirīna Remember, how the unbelievers plotted against you. They sought to take you captive or kill you or exile you. They planned - and Allah also planned - Allah is the best planner of all.[8.30] وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيُثْبِتُوكَ أَوْ يَقْتُلُوكَ أَوْ يُخْرِجُوكَ وَيَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ خَيْرُ الْمَاكِرِينَ
Wa 'Idhā Tutlá `Alayhim 'Āyātunā Qālū Qad Sami`nā Law Nashā'u Laqulnā Mithla Hādhā 'In Hādhā 'Illā 'Asāţīru Al-'Awwalīna Whenever Our revelations are recited to them they say: “Well, we have heard this. If we wanted we could fabricate the like. These are nothing but the tales of the ancients."[8.31] وَإِذَا تُتْلَى عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتُنَا قَالُوا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَاءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هَذَا إِنْ هَذَا إِلاَّ أَسَاطِيرُ الأَوَّلِينَ
Wa 'Idh Qālū Al-Lahumma 'In Kāna Hādhā Huwa Al-Ĥaqqa Min `Indika Fa'amţir `Alaynā Ĥijāratan Mina As-Samā'i 'Aw A'tinā Bi`adhābin 'Alīmin Also remember how they said: “O Allah! If this is indeed the truth from You, then rain down stones on us from the sky or inflict some dreadful scourge to punish us."[8.32] وَإِذْ قَالُوا اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا هُوَ الْحَقَّ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَة ً مِنَ السَّمَاءِ أَوْ ائْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيم ٍ
Wa Mā Kāna Al-Lahu Liyu`adhdhibahum Wa 'Anta Fīhim Wa Mā Kāna Al-Lahu Mu`adhdhibahum Wa Hum Yastaghfirūna But Allah would not punish them while you were present in their midst. Nor does Allah punish people while they are asking His forgiveness.[8.33] وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنْتَ فِيهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ
Wa Mā Lahum 'Allā Yu`adhdhibahumu Al-Lahu Wa Hum Yaşuddūna `Ani Al-Masjidi Al-Ĥarāmi Wa Mā Kānū 'Awliyā'ahu 'In 'Awliyā'uuhu 'Illā Al-Muttaqūna Wa Lakinna 'Aktharahum Lā Ya`lamūna But now there is no reason why Allah should not punish them when they are blocking others from the Masjid-al-Harمm (Ka'bah), whereas they are not its lawful guardians. In fact, its only guardians are those who fear Allah, even though most of them do not understand.[8.34] وَمَا لَهُمْ أَلاَّ يُعَذِّبَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوا أَوْلِيَاءَهُ~ُ إِنْ أَوْلِيَاؤُهُ~ُ إِلاَّ الْمُتَّقُونَ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ
Wa Mā Kāna Şalātuhum `Inda Al-Bayti 'Illā Mukā'an Wa Taşdiyatan Fadhūqū Al-`Adhāba Bimā Kuntum Takfurūna Their prayer at the House of Allah is nothing but whistling and clapping of hands: whose only answer can be, “Taste the punishment because of your denying the truth."[8.35] وَمَا كَانَ صَلاَتُهُمْ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ إِلاَّ مُكَاء ً وَتَصْدِيَة ً فَذُوقُوا الْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ
'Inna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Yunfiqūna 'Amwālahum Liyaşuddū `An Sabīli Al-Lahi Fasayunfiqūnahā Thumma Takūnu `Alayhim Ĥasratan Thumma Yughlabūna Wa Al-Ladhīna Kafarū 'Ilá Jahannama Yuĥsharūna Surely the unbelievers spend their wealth in blocking the way of Allah and so will they continue to spend; but in the end these very efforts will become the cause of their regrets; at length they will be defeated, and in the hereafter these unbelievers will be gathered together and driven to hell,[8.36] إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَة ً ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُونَ وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَى جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُونَ
Liyamīza Al-Lahu Al-Khabītha Mina Aţ-Ţayyibi Wa Yaj`ala Al-Khabītha Ba`đahu `Alá Ba`đin Fayarkumahu Jamī`āan Fayaj`alahu Fī Jahannama 'Ūlā'ika Humu Al-Khāsirūna in order that Allah may separate the filthy from the pure. He will heap the filthy one upon another, altogether, and then cast them into hell. They are the ones who will be the losers.[8.37] لِيَمِيزَ اللَّهُ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ وَيَجْعَلَ الْخَبِيثَ بَعْضَه ُُ عَلَى بَعْض ٍ فَيَرْكُمَه ُُ جَمِيعا ً فَيَجْعَلَه ُُ فِي جَهَنَّمَ أُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ
Qul Lilladhīna Kafarū 'In Yantahū Yughfar Lahum Mā Qad Salafa Wa 'In Ya`ūdū Faqad Mađat Sunnatu Al-'Awwalīna O Prophet, tell the unbelievers that if they desist from unbelief, their past shall be forgiven; but if they persist in sin, let them reflect upon the fate of their forefathers.[8.38] قُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ وَإِنْ يَعُودُوا فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّةُ الأَوَّلِينَ
Wa Qātilūhum Ĥattá Lā Takūna Fitnatun Wa Yakūna Ad-Dīnu Kulluhu Lillahi Fa'ini Antahaw Fa'inna Al-Laha Bimā Ya`malūna Başīrun O believers, fight them until there is no more mischief and the Deen of Allah (way of life prescribed by Allah) is established completely; but if they do stop from mischief, then surely Allah is observant of all their actions.[8.39] وَقَاتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّى لاَ تَكُونَ فِتْنَة ٌ وَيَكُونَ الدِّينُ كُلُّه ُُ لِلَّهِ فَإِنِ انتَهَوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ بَصِير ٌ
Wa 'In Tawallaw Fā`lamū 'Anna Al-Laha Mawlākum Ni`ma Al-Mawlá Wa Ni`ma An-Naşīru If they give no heed, then you should know that Allah is your protector. He is the best to protect and the best to help.[8.40] وَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ مَوْلاَكُمْ نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ
Wa A`lamū 'Annamā Ghanimtum Min Shay'in Fa'anna Lillahi Khumusahu Wa Lilrrasūli Wa Lidhī Al-Qurbá Wa Al-Yatāmá Wa Al-Masākīni Wa Abni As-Sabīli 'In Kuntum 'Āmantum Bil-Lahi Wa Mā 'Anzalnā `Alá `Abdinā Yawma Al-Furqāni Yawma At-Taqá Al-Jam`āni Wa Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun Know that one-fifth of the booty (spoils of war) is for Allah, His Rasool, close relatives of the Rasool, orphans, the needy and the wayfarer, if you do believe in Allah and in what We revealed to Our servant on the day of distinction (between right and wrong), the day when two armies met in combat. Allah has power over everything.[8.41] وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّمَا غَنِمْتُمْ مِنْ شَيْء ٍ فَأَنَّ لِلَّهِ خُمُسَه ُُ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ إِنْ كُنتُمْ آمَنْتُمْ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا يَوْمَ الْفُرْقَانِ يَوْمَ الْتَقَى الْجَمْعَانِ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء ٍ قَدِير ٌ
'Idh 'Antum Bil-`Udwati Ad-Dunyā Wa Hum Bil-`Udwati Al-Quşwá Wa Ar-Rakbu 'Asfala Minkum Wa Law Tawā`adttumkhtalaftum Al-Mī`ādi Wa Lakin Liyaqđiya Al-Lahu 'Amrāan Kāna Maf`ūlāan Liyahlika Man Halaka `An Bayyinatin Wa Yaĥyá Man Ĥayya `An Bayyinatin Wa 'Inna Al-Laha Lasamī`un `Alīmun Remember when you were on this side of the valley and they on the farther side, and the caravan was on lower ground than you both. If you had made a mutual appointment to fight, you would have certainly failed; but Allah sought to accomplish what He has ordained, that those who were destined to perish might die by clear proof and those who were destined to live might survive by clear proof. Surely, Allah is He Who hears all and knows all.[8.42] إِذْ أَنْتُمْ بِالْعُدْوَةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ بِالْعُدْوَةِ الْقُصْوَى وَالرَّكْبُ أَسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَوْ تَوَاعَدتُّمْ لاَخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِي الْمِيعَادِ وَلَكِنْ لِيَقْضِيَ اللَّهُ أَمْرا ً كَانَ مَفْعُولا ً لِيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنْ بَيِّنَة ٍ وَيَحْيَى مَنْ حَيَّ عَنْ بَيِّنَة ٍ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَسَمِيعٌ عَلِيم ٌ
'Idh Yurīkahumu Al-Lahu Fī Manāmika Qalīlāan Wa Law 'Arākahum Kathīrāan Lafashiltum Wa Latanāza`tum Al-'Amri Wa Lakinna Al-Laha Sallama 'Innahu `Alīmun Bidhāti Aş-Şudūri Also remember that Allah made them appear in your dream as few in number; if He had shown them to you as many in number, you would surely have been discouraged and you would have disputed in your decision. But Allah saved you; surely He knows the very secrets of the hearts.[8.43] إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلا ً وَلَوْ أَرَاكَهُمْ كَثِيرا ً لَفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الأَمْرِ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ سَلَّمَ إِنَّه ُُ عَلِيم ٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ
Wa 'Idh Yurīkumūhum 'Idhi At-Taqaytum Fī 'A`yunikum Qalīlāan Wa Yuqallilukum Fī 'A`yunihim Liyaqđiya Al-Lahu 'Amrāan Kāna Maf`ūlāan Wa 'Ilá Al-Lahi Turja`u Al-'Umūru And remember when you met them in the encounter, He showed them to you as few in number in your eyes and He made you appear as a few in number in their eyes so that Allah might accomplish what He had ordained: for ultimately all affairs return to Allah for decision.[8.44] وَإِذْ يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ إِذِ الْتَقَيْتُمْ فِي أَعْيُنِكُمْ قَلِيلا ً وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ فِي أَعْيُنِهِمْ لِيَقْضِيَ اللَّهُ أَمْرا ً كَانَ مَفْعُولا ً وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الأُمُورُ
Yā 'Ayyuhā Al-Ladhīna 'Āmanū 'Idhā Laqītum Fi'atanthbutū Wa Adhkurū Al-Laha Kathīrāan La`allakum Tufliĥūna O believers! When you encounter an enemy in a combat, be firm and frequently remember Allah so that you may be successful.[8.45] يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا لَقِيتُمْ فِئَة ً فَاثْبُتُوا وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرا ً لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
Wa 'Aţī`ū Al-Laha Wa Rasūlahu Wa Lā Tanāza`ū Fatafshalū Wa Tadh/haba Rīĥukum Wa Aşbirū 'Inna Al-Laha Ma`a Aş-Şābirīna Obey Allah and His Rasool and do not argue with one another, lest you lose courage and weaken your strength. Show patience, surely Allah is on the side of the patient.[8.46] وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَه ُُ وَلاَ تَنَازَعُوا فَتَفْشَلُوا وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ وَاصْبِرُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ
Wa Lā Takūnū Kālladhīna Kharajū Min Diyārihim Baţarāan Wa Ri'ā'a An-Nāsi Wa Yaşuddūna `An Sabīli Al-Lahi Wa Allāhu Bimā Ya`malūna Muĥīţun Do not be like those who started from their homes recklessly in order to be seen by everybody and debar others from the Way of Allah. Allah encompasses all their actions.[8.47] وَلاَ تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ بَطَرا ً وَرِئَاءَ النَّاسِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيط ٌ
Wa 'Idh Zayyana Lahumu Ash-Shayţānu 'A`mālahum Wa Qāla Lā Ghāliba Lakumu Al-Yawma Mina An-Nāsi Wa 'Innī Jārun Lakum Falammā Tarā'ati Al-Fi'atāni Nakaşa `Alá `Aqibayhi Wa Qāla 'Innī Barī'un Minkum 'Innī 'Ará Mā Lā Tarawna 'Inniyi 'Akhāfu Al-Laha Wa Allāhu Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi Remember when Shaitمn made their actions seem attractive to them, and said: “No one from mankind can overcome you today, for I will be at hand to help you." Yet when the two armies came within sight of each other he turned upon his heels saying: “ I am done with you, for I can see what you cannot. I fear Allah, for Allah is severe in punishment.[8.48] وَإِذْ زَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ وَقَالَ لاَ غَالِبَ لَكُمُ الْيَوْمَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَإِنِّي جَار ٌ لَكُمْ فَلَمَّا تَرَاءَتِ الْفِئَتَانِ نَكَصَ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي بَرِيء ٌ مِنْكُمْ إِنِّي أَرَى مَا لاَ تَرَوْنَ إِنِّيِ أَخَافُ اللَّهَ وَاللَّهُ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
'Idh Yaqūlu Al-Munāfiqūna Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī Qulūbihim Marađun Gharra Hā'uulā' Dīnuhum Wa Man Yatawakkal `Alá Al-Lahi Fa'inna Al-Laha `Azīzun Ĥakīmun At that time the hypocrites and all those who had malice in their hearts were saying: “Their religion has deceived them.” But you should know that anyone who puts his trust in Allah will find Allah Mighty, Wise.[8.49] إِذْ يَقُولُ الْمُنَافِقُونَ وَالَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ غَرَّ هَاؤُلاَء دِينُهُمْ وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيم ٌ
Wa Law Tará 'Idh Yatawaffá Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Al-Malā'ikatu Yađribūna Wujūhahum Wa 'Adbārahum Wa Dhūqū `Adhāba Al-Ĥarīqi If you could only see the angels when they were taking away the souls of the killed unbelievers! They were smiting their faces and their backs saying: “Taste the torment of the conflagration![8.50] وَلَوْ تَرَى إِذْ يَتَوَفَّى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا الْمَلاَئِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَارَهُمْ وَذُوقُوا عَذَابَ الْحَرِيقِ
Dhālika Bimā Qaddamat 'Aydīkum Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Laysa Bižallāmin Lil`abīdi This is the punishment for what your hands have sent forth, for Allah is never unjust to His servants."[8.51] ذَلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلاَّم ٍ لِلْعَبِيدِ
Kada'bi 'Āli Fir`awna Wa Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Kafarū Bi'āyāti Al-Lahi Fa'akhadhahumu Al-Lahu Bidhunūbihim 'Inna Al-Laha Qawīyun Shadīdu Al-`Iqābi This was the same that happened to the people of Fir‘on (Pharaoh) and to those that had gone before them. They also rejected the revelations of Allah and Allah seized them for their sins. Surely Allah is Mighty and severe in punishment.[8.52] كَدَأْبِ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَوِيّ ٌ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
Dhālika Bi'anna Al-Laha Lam Yaku Mughayyirāan Ni`matan 'An`amahā `Alá Qawmin Ĥattá Yughayyirū Mā Bi'anfusihim Wa 'Anna Al-Laha Samī`un `Alīmun That is because Allah has never changed the blessings which He has bestowed on a people until they themselves changed the condition of their souls; verily Allah hears all and knows all.[8.53] ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُ مُغَيِّرا ً نِعْمَةً أَنْعَمَهَا عَلَى قَوْمٍ حَتَّى يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيم ٌ
Kada'bi 'Āli Fir`awna Wa Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Kadhdhabū Bi'āyāti Rabbihim Fa'ahlaknāhum Bidhunūbihim Wa 'Aghraqnā 'Āla Fir`awna Wa Kullun Kānū Žālimīna This same principle was applied to the people of Fir'on and those who have gone before them, they rejected the revelations of their Rabb so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Fir'on; they were all wrongdoers.[8.54] كَدَأْبِ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَاهُمْ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَكُلّ ٌ كَانُوا ظَالِمِينَ
'Inna Sharra Ad-Dawābbi `Inda Al-Lahi Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Fahum Lā Yu'uminūna The worst of animals in the sight of Allah are those who reject the truth and do not become believers.[8.55] إِنَّ شَرَّ الدَّوَابِّ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فَهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ
Al-Ladhīna `Āhadta Minhum Thumma Yanquđūna `Ahdahum Fī Kulli Marratin Wa Hum Lā Yattaqūna Those who make treaties with you and time after time violate their treaties, and have no fear of Allah.[8.56] الَّذِينَ عَاهَدْتَ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَهُمْ فِي كُلِّ مَرَّة ٍ وَهُمْ لاَ يَتَّقُونَ
Fa'immā Tathqafannahum Al-Ĥarbi Fasharrid Bihim Man Khalfahum La`allahum Yadhdhakkarūna If you encounter them in combat, make them a fearsome example for others who would follow them so that they all may learn a lesson.[8.57] فَإِمَّا تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ فِي الْحَرْبِ فَشَرِّدْ بِهِمْ مَنْ خَلْفَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ
Wa 'Immā Takhāfanna Min Qawmin Khiyānatannbidh 'Ilayhim `Alá Sawā'in 'Inna Al-Laha Lā Yuĥibbu Al-Khā'inīna If you fear treachery from any of your allies, you may fairly retaliate by breaking off the treaty with them (through properly notifying them to that effect), for Allah does not love the treacherous.[8.58] وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِنْ قَوْمٍ خِيَانَة ً فَانْبِذْ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلَى سَوَاء ٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْخَائِنِينَ
Wa Lā Yaĥsabanna Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Sabaqū 'Innahum Lā Yu`jizūna Let not the unbelievers think that they have won the game; surely they can never frustrate the believers.[8.59] وَلاَ يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سَبَقُوا إِنَّهُمْ لاَ يُعْجِزُونَ
Wa 'A`iddū LahumAstaţa`tum Min Qūwati
