70) Sūrat Al-Ma`ārij

70) سُورَة المَعَارِج

Sa'ala Sā'ilun Bi`adhābin Wāqi`in َ070-001 A solicitor solicited the punishment which is bound to befall. سَأَلَ سَائِل ٌ بِعَذَاب ٍ وَاقِع ٍ
Lilkāfiryna Laysa Lahu Dāfi`un َ070-002 (Let him know) there will be none to ward it off from the disbelievers. لِلْكَافِرينَ لَيْسَ لَه ُُ دَافِع ٌ
Mina Al-Lahi Dhī Al-Ma`āriji َ070-003 (It shall come) from Allâh the Master of the ways of ascent; (which even enable a person to rise higher and higher, so why not solicit His grace?) مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ
Ta`ruju Al-Malā'ikatu Wa Ar-Rūĥu 'Ilayhi Fī Yawmin Kāna Miqdāruhu Khamsīna 'Alfa Sanahin َ070-004 The angels and the Spirit (of the faithful) ascend to Him in a day the measure of which is (equal to) fifty thousand years (a day of spiritual advancement of the faithful is equivalent to fifty thousand years of material advancement, thus the development and progress of the human soul knows no end). تَعْرُجُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْم ٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُه ُُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَة ٍ
Fāşbir Şabrāan Jamīlāan َ070-005 So (while waiting) patiently persevere, an admirable and graceful persevering. فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرا ً جَمِيلا ً
'Innahum Yarawnahu Ba`īdāan َ070-006 They think it (- the Day of Judgment) to be far off. إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَه ُُ بَعِيدا ً
Wa Narāhu Qarībāan َ070-007 But We know it to be near (at hand). وَنَرَاه ُُ قَرِيبا ً
Yawma Takūnu As-Samā'u Kālmuhli َ070-008 The day (it befalls), the heaven shall become (red) like molten copper. يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ
Wa Takūnu Al-Jibālu Kāl`ihni َ070-009 And the mountains shall become like flakes of multicoloured wool. وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ
Wa Lā Yas'alu Ĥamīmun Ĥamīmāan َ070-010 No warm friend will inquire after a warm friend. وَلاَ يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيما ً
Yubaşşarūnahum  ۚ  Yawaddu Al-Mujrimu Law Yaftadī Min `Adhābi Yawmi'idhin Bibanīhi َ070-011 (Though) they will be placed in sight of one another. The guilty person would wish to redeem himself from the punishment of that day (even) by (offering) his children (as ransom); يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ  ۚ  يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذ ٍ بِبَنِيهِ
Wa Şāĥibatihi Wa 'Akhīhi َ070-012 (The guilty will gladly sacrifice) his wife and his brother (to redeem himself); وَصَاحِبَتِه ِِ وَأَخِيهِ
Wa Faşīlatihi Allatī Tu'uwyhi َ070-013 And even his kinsfolk who gave him shelter (in time of distress) وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْويهِ
Wa Man Al-'Arđi Jamī`āan Thumma Yunjīhi َ070-014 And (by offering) all that is on the earth put together, (thinking) if only thus he might deliver himself (from the punishment). وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعا ً ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ
Kallā  ۖ  'Innahā Lažá َ070-015 By no means! (He can never be redeemed). Surely, it (- the punishment you are warned against) is a blazing Fire, كَلاَّ  ۖ  إِنَّهَا لَظَى
Nazzā`atan Lilshshawá َ070-016 Stripping off the skin even to the extremities (of the human body). نَزَّاعَة ً لِلشَّوَى
Tad`ū Man 'Adbara Wa Tawallá َ070-017 It will claim the person (for consumption) who drew back (from accepting the truth) and turned away (refusing to obey). تَدْعُوا مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّى
Wa Jama`a Fa'aw`á َ070-018 (It will claim) him who amassed (wealth) and withheld (it). وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَى
'Inna Al-'Insāna Khuliqa Halū`āan َ070-019 Verily, such a person is impatient and miserly by nature. إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعا ً
'Idhā Massahu Ash-Sharru Jazū`āan َ070-020 He loses heart and becomes fretful when evil afflicts him. إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعا ً
Wa 'Idhā Massahu Al-Khayru Manū`āan َ070-021 But is niggardly when good falls to his lot. وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعا ً
'Illā Al-Muşallīna َ070-022 Different however is the case of those devoted to Prayers, إِلاَّ الْمُصَلِّينَ
Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Dā'imūna َ070-023 Those persons who remain constant and steadfast in their Prayers, الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Fī 'Amwālihim Ĥaqqun Ma`lūmun َ070-024 And those in whose wealth there is a recognised right (- a fixed share), وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقّ ٌ مَعْلُوم ٌ
Lilssā'ili Wa Al-Maĥrūmi َ070-025 (Set apart) for one who asks (for help) and also (for one) who is prevented (even from asking for one reason or the other); لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Yuşaddiqūna Biyawmi Ad-Dīni َ070-026 (Different also is the case of) those who accepted the truth of the Day of Requital; وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Min `Adhābi Rabbihim Mushfiqūna َ070-027 And those who are fearful of the punishment from their Lord. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ
'Inna `Adhāba Rabbihim Ghayru Ma'mūnin َ070-028 The fact is that the punishment of their Lord is not (a thing) to be felt secure from; إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُون ٍ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Lifurūjihim Ĥāfižūna َ070-029 (Different as well is the case of) those who guard their private parts (by restraining their passions). وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ
'Illā `Alá 'Azwājihim 'Aw Mā Malakat 'Aymānuhum Fa'innahum Ghayru Malūmīna َ070-030 Except from their (free) wives or those (wives of theirs) whom their right hands own (- slave wives), for which they are not to blame. إِلاَّ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
Famani Abtaghá Warā'a Dhālika Fa'ūlā'ika Humu Al-`Ādūna َ070-031 But it is those who seek (to satisfy their lust) in any other way excepting that (of marriage) that are the transgressors. فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاءَ ذَلِكَ فَأُوْلَائِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Li'mānātihim Wa `Ahdihim Rā`ūna َ070-032 And (different also is the case of) those persons who are watchful of their trusts and their covenants, وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum Bishahādātihim Qā'imūna َ070-033 And those who are upright in their evidences (and bear true testimony), وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ
Wa Al-Ladhīna Hum `Alá Şalātihim Yuĥāfižūna َ070-034 And those persons who are strict in the observance of their Prayers. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلاَتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
'Ūlā'ika Fī Jannātin Mukramūna َ070-035 All these (mentioned above) shall be dwelling in Gardens, honoured and treated generously. أُوْلَائِكَ فِي جَنَّات ٍ مُكْرَمُونَ
Famāli Al-Ladhīna Kafarū Qibalaka Muhţi`īna َ070-036 What is wrong with those who disbelieve that they come running headlong towards you, فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ
`Ani Al-Yamīni Wa `Ani Ash-Shimāli `Izīna َ070-037 From the right hand and from the left (- from all directions) in various parties. عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ
'Ayaţma`u Kullu Amri'in Minhum 'An Yudkhala Jannata Na`īmin َ070-038 Does each and every one of them covet to be admitted to the Garden of Bliss. أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئ ٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيم ٍ
Kallā  ۖ  'Innā Khalaqnāhum Mimmā Ya`lamūna َ070-039 No (never shall they enter it). We have created them for that substantial purpose (the worth of) which they know (- to discharge their obligations to God and mankind and to themselves). كَلاَّ  ۖ  إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ
Falā 'Uqsimu Birabbi Al-Mashāriqi Wa Al-Maghāribi 'Innā Laqādirūna َ070-040 But nay! I call to witness the Lord of the easts and the wests. We are certainly Powerful فَلاَ أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ
`Alá 'An Nubaddila Khayrāan Minhum Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna َ070-041 To change (them into) better beings than they are and that We can never be frustrated (in Our purpose). عَلَى أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرا ً مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ
Fadharhum Yakhūđū Wa Yal`abū Ĥattá Yulāqū Yawmahumu Al-Ladhī Yū`adūna َ070-042 Therefore, leave them alone to indulge in unimportant conversation and to amuse themselves (in idle pursuits) until they meet that day of theirs that they are warned of, فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّى يُلاَقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ
Yawma Yakhrujūna Mina Al-'Ajthi Sirā`āan Ka'annahum 'Ilá Nuşubin Yūfiđūna َ070-043 The day when they (having risen to life) will come out hastily from their graves as though they were racing to a target (which they must meet). يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعا ً كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَى نُصُب ٍ يُوفِضُونَ
Khāshi`atan 'Abşāruhum Tarhaquhum Dhillatun  ۚ  Dhālika Al-Yawmu Al-Ladhī Kānū Yū`adūna َ070-044 Their eyes will be downcast and shameful; humiliation will be overwhelming them. Such shall be the punishment of the day with which they are being threatened. خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّة ٌ  ۚ  ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ
Next Sūrah
