Aqra' Biāsmi Rabbika Al-Ladhī Khalaqa | Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), (Al-'Alaq 96:1) |
Khalaqa Al-'Insāna Min `Alaqin | Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). (Al-'Alaq 96:2) |
Aqra' Wa Rabbuka Al-'Akramu | Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, (Al-'Alaq 96:3) |
Al-Ladhī `Allama Bil-Qalami | Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)], (Al-'Alaq 96:4) |
`Allama Al-'Insāna Mā Lam Ya`lam | Has taught man that which he knew not. (Al-'Alaq 96:5) |
Kallā 'Inna Al-'Insāna Layaţghá | Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). (Al-'Alaq 96:6) |
'An Ra'āhu Astaghná | Because he considers himself self-sufficient. (Al-'Alaq 96:7) |
'Inna 'Ilá Rabbika Ar-Ruj`á | Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. (Al-'Alaq 96:8) |
'Ara'ayta Al-Ladhī Yanhá | Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abû Jahl) who prevents, (Al-'Alaq 96:9) |
`Abdāan 'Idhā Şallá | A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? (Al-'Alaq 96:10) |
'Ara'ayta 'In Kāna `Alá Al-Hudá | Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allāh)? (Al-'Alaq 96:11) |
'Aw 'Amara Bit-Taqwá | Or enjoins piety? (Al-'Alaq 96:12) |
'Ara'ayta 'In Kadhdhaba Wa Tawallá | Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abû Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Qur'ān), and turns away? (Al-'Alaq 96:13) |
'Alam Ya`lam Bi'anna Al-Laha Yará | Knows he not that Allāh does see (what he does)? (Al-'Alaq 96:14) |
Kallā La'in Lam Yantahi Lanasfa`ā Bin-Nāşiyahi | Nay! If he (Abû Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, (Al-'Alaq 96:15) |
Nāşiyatin Kādhibatin Khāţi'ahin | A lying, sinful forelock! (Al-'Alaq 96:16) |
Falyad`u Nādiyah | Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), (Al-'Alaq 96:17) |
Sanad`u Az-Zabāniyaha | We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! (Al-'Alaq 96:18) |
Kallā Lā Tuţi`hu Wa Asjud Wāqtarib | Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abû Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allāh! (Al-'Alaq 96:19) |
