56) Sūrat Al-Wāqi`ah

'Idhā Waqa`ati Al-Wāqi`ahu When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:1)
Laysa Liwaq`atihā Kādhibahun And there can be no denying of its befalling. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:2)
Khāfiđatun Rāfi`ahun It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; (Al-Waqi'ah 56:3)
'Idhā Rujjati Al-'Arđu Rajjāan When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:4)
Wa Bussati Al-Jibālu Bassāan And the mountains will be powdered to dust. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:5)
Fakānat Habā'an Munbaththāan So that they will become floating dust particles. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:6)
Wa Kuntum 'Azwājāan Thalāthahan And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:7)
Fa'aşĥābu Al-Maymanati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Maymanahi So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:8)
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amati Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Mash'amahi And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:9)
Wa As-Sābiqūna As-Sābiqūna And those foremost [(in Islāmic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islām,] will be foremost (in Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:10)
'Ūlā'ika Al-Muqarrabūna These will be those nearest to Allāh. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:11)
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:12)
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islām). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:13)
Wa Qalīlun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:14)
`Alá Sururin Mawđūnahin (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:15)
Muttaki'īna `Alayhā Mutaqābilīna Reclining thereon, face to face. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:16)
Yaţūfu `Alayhim Wildānun Mukhalladūna They will be served by immortal boys, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:17)
Bi'akwābin Wa 'Abārīqa Wa Ka'sin Min Ma`īnin With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:18)
Lā Yuşadda`ūna `Anhā Wa Lā Yunzifūna Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:19)
Wa Fākihatin Mimmā Yatakhayyarūna And fruit; that they may choose. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:20)
Wa Laĥmi Ţayrin Mimmā Yashtahūna And the flesh of fowls that they desire. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:21)
Wa Ĥūrun `Īnun And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), (Al-Waqi'ah 56:22)
Ka'amthāli Al-Lu'ulu'ui Al-Maknūni Like unto preserved pearls. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:23)
Jazā'an Bimā Kānū Ya`malūna A reward for what they used to do. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:24)
Lā Yasma`ūna Fīhā Laghwan Wa Lā Ta'thīmāan No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:25)
'Illā Qīlāan Salāmāan Salāmāan But only the saying of: Salām!, Salām! (greetings with peace) ! (Al-Waqi'ah 56:26)
Wa 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni Mā 'Aşĥābu Al-Yamīni And those on the Right Hand, ­ Who will be those on the Right Hand? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:27)
Fī Sidrin Makhđūdin (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:28)
Wa Ţalĥin Manđūdin Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:29)
Wa Žillin Mamdūdin In shade long-extended, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:30)
Wa Mā'in Maskūbin By water flowing constantly, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:31)
Wa Fākihatin Kathīrahin And fruit in plenty, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:32)
Lā Maqţū`atin Wa Lā Mamnū`ahin Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:33)
Wa Furushin Marfū`ahin And on couches or thrones, raised high. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:34)
'Innā 'Ansha'nāhunna 'Inshā'an Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:35)
Faja`alnāhunna 'Abkārāan And made them virgins. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:36)
`Urubāan 'Atrābāan Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:37)
Li'aşĥābi Al-Yamīni For those on the Right Hand. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:38)
Thullatun Mina Al-'Awwalīna A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islām). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:39)
Wa Thullatun Mina Al-'Ākhirīna A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later generations. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:40)
Wa 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli Mā 'Aşĥābu Ash-Shimāli And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:41)
Fī Samūmin Wa Ĥamīmin In fierce hot wind and boiling water, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:42)
Wa Žillin Min Yaĥmūmin And shadow of black smoke, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:43)
Lā Bāridin Wa Lā Karīmin (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:44)
'Innahum Kānū Qabla Dhālika Mutrafīna Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:45)
Wa Kānū Yuşirrūna `Alá Al-Ĥinthi Al-`Ažīmi And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allāh, committing murders and other crimes, etc.)[] (Al-Waqi'ah 56:46)
Wa Kānū Yaqūlūna 'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamabthūna And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:47)
'Awa 'Ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna "And also our forefathers?" (Al-Waqi'ah 56:48)
Qul 'Inna Al-'Awwalīna Wa Al-'Ākhirīna Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:49)
Lamajmū`ūna 'Ilá Mīqāti Yawmin Ma`lūmin "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:50)
Thumma 'Innakum 'Ayyuhā Ađ-Đāllūna Al-Mukadhdhibūna "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! (Al-Waqi'ah 56:51)
La'ākilūna Min Shajarin Min Zaqqūmin "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqûm. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:52)
Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:53)
Fashāribūna `Alayhi Mina Al-Ĥamīmi "And drink boiling water on top of it, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:54)
Fashāribūna Shurba Al-Hīmi "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" (Al-Waqi'ah 56:55)
dhā Nuzuluhum Yawma Ad-Dīni That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! (Al-Waqi'ah 56:56)
Naĥnu Khalaqnākum Falawlā Tuşaddiqūna We created you, then why do you believe not? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:57)
'Afara'aytum Mā Tumnūna Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:58)
'A'antum Takhluqūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Al-Khāliqūna Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:59)
Naĥnu Qaddarnā Baynakumu Al-Mawta Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimasbūqīna We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:60)
`Alá 'An Nubaddila 'Amthālakum Wa Nunshi'akum Fī Mā Lā Ta`lamūna To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:61)
Wa Laqad `Alimtumu An-Nash'ata Al-'Ūlá Falawlā Tadhkkarūna And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:62)
'Afara'aytum Mā Taĥruthūna Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:63)
'A'antum Tazra`ūnahu 'Am Naĥnu Az-Zāri`ūna Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:64)
Law Nashā'u Laja`alnāhu Ĥuţāmāan Fažalaltum Tafakkahūna Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:65)
'Innā Lamughramūna (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramûn (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubī, Vol. 17, Page 219] (Al-Waqi'ah 56:66)
Bal Naĥnu Maĥrūmūna "Nay, but we are deprived!" (Al-Waqi'ah 56:67)
'Afara'aytumu Al-Mā'a Al-Ladhī Tashrabūna Tell Me! The water that you drink. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:68)
'A'antum 'Anzaltumūhu Mina Al-Muzni 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munzilūna Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:69)
Law Nashā'u Ja`alnāhu 'Ujājāan Falawlā Tashkurūna If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allāh)? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:70)
'Afara'aytumu An-Nāra Allatī Tūrūna Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:71)
'A'antum 'Ansha'tum Shajaratahā 'Am Naĥnu Al-Munshi'ūna Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:72)
Naĥnu Ja`alnāhā Tadhkiratan Wa Matā`āan Lilmuqwīna We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:73)
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:74)
Falā 'Uqsimu Bimawāqi`i An-Nujūmi So I swear by Mawāqi (setting or the mansions, etc.) of the stars (they traverse). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:75)
Wa 'Innahu Laqasamun Law Ta`lamūna `Ažīmun And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:76)
'Innahu Laqur'ānun Karīmun That (this) is indeed an honourable recital (the Noble Qur'ān). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:77)
Fī Kitābin Maknūnin In a Book well-guarded (with Allāh in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfûz). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:78)
Lā Yamassuhu 'Illā Al-Muţahharūna Which (that Book with Allāh) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:79)
Tanzīlun Min Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna A Revelation (this Qur'ān) from the Lord of the 'Alamīn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:80)
'Afabihadhā Al-Ĥadīthi 'Antum Mud/hinūna Is it such a talk (this Qur'an) that you (disbelievers) deny? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:81)
Wa Taj`alūna Rizqakum 'Annakum Tukadhdhibūna And instead (of thanking Allāh) for the provision He gives you, on the contrary, you deny Him (by disbelief)! (Al-Waqi'ah 56:82)
Falawlā 'Idhā Balaghati Al-Ĥulqūma Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:83)
Wa 'Antum Ĥīna'idhin Tanžurūna And you at the moment are looking on, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:84)
Wa Naĥnu 'Aqrabu 'Ilayhi Minkum Wa Lakin Lā Tubşirūna But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, [Tafsir At-Tabarī, Vol.27, Page 209] (Al-Waqi'ah 56:85)
Falawlā 'In Kuntum Ghayra Madīnīna Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.) (Al-Waqi'ah 56:86)
Tarji`ūnahā 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful? (Al-Waqi'ah 56:87)
Fa'ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Muqarrabīna Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarrabûn (those brought near to Allāh), (Al-Waqi'ah 56:88)
Farawĥun Wa Rayĥānun Wa Jannatu Na`īmin (There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of delights (Paradise). (Al-Waqi'ah 56:89)
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand, (Al-Waqi'ah 56:90)
Fasalāmun Laka Min 'Aşĥābi Al-Yamīni Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allāh) for (you as you are from) those on the Right Hand. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:91)
Wa 'Ammā 'In Kāna Mina Al-Mukadhdhibīna Ađ-Đāllīna But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islāmic Monotheism), (Al-Waqi'ah 56:92)
Fanuzulun Min Ĥamīmin Then for him is entertainment with boiling water. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:93)
Wa Taşliyatu Jaĥīmin And burning in Hell-fire. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:94)
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Ĥaqqu Al-Yaqīni Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:95)
Fasabbiĥ Biāsmi Rabbika Al-`Ažīmi So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. (Al-Waqi'ah 56:96)
