37) Sūrat Aş-Şāffāt

Wa Aş-Şāffāti Şaffāan By those (angels) ranged in ranks (or rows). (As-Saffat 37:1)
Fālzzājirāti Zajan By those (angels) who drive the clouds in a good way. (As-Saffat 37:2)
Fālttāliyāti Dhikrāan By those (angels) who bring the Book and the Qur'ān from Allāh to mankind [Tafsir Ibn Kathīr]. (As-Saffat 37:3)
'Inna 'Ilahakum Lawāĥidun Verily your Ilāh (God) is indeed One (i.e. Allāh); (As-Saffat 37:4)
Rabbu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'Arđi Wa Mā Baynahumā Wa Rabbu Al-Mashāriqi Lord of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them, and Lord of every point of the sun's risings. (None has the right to be worshipped but Allāh). (As-Saffat 37:5)
'Innā Zayyannā As-Samā'a Ad-Dunyā Bizīnatin Al-Kawākib Verily! We have adorned the near heaven with the stars (for beauty). (As-Saffat 37:6)
Wa Ĥifžāan Min Kulli Shayţāninridin And to guard against every rebellious devil. (As-Saffat 37:7)
Lā Yassamma`ūna 'Ilá Al-Mala'i Al-'A`lá Wa Yuqdhafūna Min Kulli Jānibin They cannot listen to the higher group (angels) for they are pelted from every side. (As-Saffat 37:8)
Duĥūrāan Wa Lahum `Adhābun Wa Aşibun Outcast, and theirs is a constant (or painful) torment. (As-Saffat 37:9)
'Illā Man Khaţifa Al-Khaţfata Fa'atba`ahu Shihābun Thāqibāun Except such as snatch away something by stealing and they are pursued by a flaming fire of piercing brightness. (As-Saffat 37:10)
Fāstaftihim 'Ahum 'Ashaddu Khalqāan 'Am Man Khalaqnā 'Innā Khalaqnāhum Min Ţīnin Lāzibin Then ask them (i.e. these polytheists, O Muhammad SAW): "Are they stronger as creation, or those (others like the heavens and the earth and the mountains, etc.) whom We have created?" Verily, We created them of a sticky clay. (As-Saffat 37:11)
Bal `Ajibta Wa Yaskharūna Nay, you (O Muhammad SAW) wondered (at their insolence) while they mock (at you and at the Qur'ān). (As-Saffat 37:12)
Wa 'Idhā Dhukkirū Lā Yadhkurūna And when they are reminded, they pay no attention. (As-Saffat 37:13)
Wa 'Idhā Ra'aw 'Āyatan Yastaskhirūna And when they see an Ayāh (a sign, a proof, or an evidence) from Allāh, they mock at it. (As-Saffat 37:14)
Wa Qālū 'In Hādhā 'Illā Siĥrun Mubīnun And they say: "This is nothing but evident magic! (As-Saffat 37:15)
'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamabthūna "When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we (then) verily be resurrected? (As-Saffat 37:16)
'Awa'ābā'uunā Al-'Awwalūna "And also our fathers of old?" (As-Saffat 37:17)
Qul Na`am Wa 'Antum Dākhirūna Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Yes, and you shall then be humiliated." (As-Saffat 37:18)
Fa'innamā Hiya Zajratun Wāĥidatun Fa'idhā Hum Yanžurūna It will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e. the second blowing of the Trumpet)], and behold, they will be staring! (As-Saffat 37:19)
Wa Qālū Yā Waylanā Hādhā Yawmu Ad-Dīni They will say: "Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense!" (As-Saffat 37:20)
dhā Yawmu Al-Faşli Al-Ladhī Kuntum Bihi Tukadhdhibūna (It will be said): "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny." (As-Saffat 37:21)
Aĥshurū Al-Ladhīna Žalamū Wa 'Azwājahum Wa Mā Kānū Ya`budūna (It will be said to the angels): "Assemble those who did wrong, together with their companions (from the devils) and what they used to worship. (As-Saffat 37:22)
Min Dūni Al-Lahi Fāhdūhum 'Ilá Şirāţi Al-Jaĥīmi "Instead of Allāh, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); (As-Saffat 37:23)
Wa Qifūhum 'Innahum Mas'ūlūna "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. (As-Saffat 37:24)
Mā Lakum Lā Tanāşarūna "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" (As-Saffat 37:25)
Bal Humu Al-Yawma Mustaslimūna Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, (As-Saffat 37:26)
Wa 'Aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatasā'alūna And they will turn to one another and question one another. (As-Saffat 37:27)
Qālū 'Innakum Kuntum Ta'tūnanā `Ani Al-Yamīni They will say: "It was you who used to come to us from the right side [i.e. from the right side of one of us and beautify for us every evil, order us for polytheism, and stop us from the truth i.e. Islāmic Monotheism and from every good deed]." (As-Saffat 37:28)
Qālū Bal Lam Takūnū Mu'uminīna They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. (As-Saffat 37:29)
Wa Mā Kāna Lanā `Alaykum Min Sulţānin Bal Kuntum Qawmāan Ţāghīna "And we had no authority over you. Nay! But you were transgressing people (disobedient, polytheists, and disbelievers). (As-Saffat 37:30)
Faĥaqqa `Alaynā Qawlu Rabbinā 'Innā Ladhā'iqūna "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). (As-Saffat 37:31)
Fa'aghwaynākum 'Innā Kunnā Ghāwīna "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." (As-Saffat 37:32)
Fa'innahum Yawma'idhin Al-`Adhābi Mushtarikūna Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. (As-Saffat 37:33)
'Innā Kadhālika Naf`alu Bil-Mujrimīna Certainly, that is how We deal with Al­Mujrimûn (polytheists, sinners, criminals, the disobedient to Allāh, etc.). (As-Saffat 37:34)
'Innahum Kānū 'Idhā Qīla Lahum Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Al-Lahu Yastakbirūna Truly, when it was said to them: Lā ilāha ill-Allāh "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allāh)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). (As-Saffat 37:35)
Wa Yaqūlūna 'A'innā Latārikū 'Ālihatinā Lishā`irin Majnūnin And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our āliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? (As-Saffat 37:36)
Bal Jā'a Bil-Ĥaqqi Wa Şaddaqa Al-Mursalīna Nay! he (Muhammad SAW) has come with the truth (i.e. Allāh's Religion - Islāmic Monotheism and this Qur'ān) and he confirms the Messengers (before him who brought Allāh's religion - Islāmic Monotheism). (As-Saffat 37:37)
'Innakum Ladhā'iqū Al-`Adhābi Al-'Alīmi Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; (As-Saffat 37:38)
Wa Mā Tujzawna 'Illā Mā Kuntum Ta`malūna And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allāh's disobedience which you used to do in this world); (As-Saffat 37:39)
'Illā `Ibāda Al-Lahi Al-Mukhlaşīna Save the chosen slaves of Allāh (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islāmic Monotheism). (As-Saffat 37:40)
'Ūlā'ika Lahum Rizqun Ma`lūmun For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). (As-Saffat 37:41)
Fawākihu Wa Hum Mukramūna Fruits; and they shall be honoured, (As-Saffat 37:42)
Fī Jannāti An-Na`īmi In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), (As-Saffat 37:43)
`Alá Sururin Mutaqābilīna Facing one another on thrones, (As-Saffat 37:44)
Yuţāfu `Alayhim Bika'sin Min Ma`īnin Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; (As-Saffat 37:45)
Bayđā'a Ladhdhatin Lilshshāribīna White, delicious to the drinkers, (As-Saffat 37:46)
Lā Fīhā Ghawlun Wa Lā Hum `Anhā Yunzafūna Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. (As-Saffat 37:47)
Wa `Indahum Qāşirātu Aţ-Ţarfi `Īnun And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. (As-Saffat 37:48)
Ka'annahunna Bayđun Maknūnun (Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved. (As-Saffat 37:49)
Fa'aqbala Ba`đuhum `Alá Ba`đin Yatasā'alūna Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. (As-Saffat 37:50)
Qāla Qā'ilun Minhum 'Innī Kāna Lī Qarīnun A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), (As-Saffat 37:51)
Yaqūlu 'A'innaka Lamina Al-Muşaddiqīna Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). (As-Saffat 37:52)
'A'idhā Mitnā Wa Kunnā Turābāan Wa `Ižāmāan 'A'innā Lamadīnūna "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" (As-Saffat 37:53)
Qāla Hal 'Antum Muţţali`ūna (The man) said: "Will you look down?" (As-Saffat 37:54)
Fāţţala`a Fara'āhu Fī Sawā'i Al-Jaĥīmi So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. (As-Saffat 37:55)
Qāla Ta-Allāhi 'In Kidta Laturdīni He said: "By Allāh! You have nearly ruined me. (As-Saffat 37:56)
Wa Lawlā Ni`matu Rabbī Lakuntu Mina Al-Muĥđarīna "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." (As-Saffat 37:57)
'Afamā Naĥnu Bimayyitīna (Allāh informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? (As-Saffat 37:58)
'Illā Mawtatanā Al-'Ūlá Wa Mā Naĥnu Bimu`adhdhabīna "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." (As-Saffat 37:59)
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Al-Fawzu Al-`Ažīmu Truly, this is the supreme success! (As-Saffat 37:60)
Limithli Hādhā Falya`mali Al-`Āmilūna For the like of this let the workers work. (As-Saffat 37:61)
'Adhalika Khayrun Nuzulāan 'Am Shajaratu Az-Zaqqūmi Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqûm (a horrible tree in Hell)? (As-Saffat 37:62)
'Innā Ja`alnāhā Fitnatan Lilžžālimīna Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zālimûn (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). (As-Saffat 37:63)
'Innahā Shajaratun Takhruju Fī 'Aşli Al-Jaĥīmi Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, (As-Saffat 37:64)
Ţal`uhā Ka'annahu Ru'ūsu Ash-Shayāţīni The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayātin (devils); (As-Saffat 37:65)
Fa'innahum La'ākilūna Minhā Famāli'ūna Minhā Al-Buţūna Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. (As-Saffat 37:66)
Thumma 'Inna Lahum `Alayhā Lashawbāan Min Ĥamīmin Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqûm in their bellies). (As-Saffat 37:67)
Thumma 'Inna Marji`ahum La'ilá Al-Jaĥīmi Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. (As-Saffat 37:68)
'Innahum 'Alfaw 'Ābā'ahum Đāllīna Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; (As-Saffat 37:69)
Fahum `Alá 'Āthārihim Yuhra`ūna So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! (As-Saffat 37:70)
Wa Laqad Đalla Qablahum 'Aktharu Al-'Awwalīna And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; (As-Saffat 37:71)
Wa Laqad 'Arsalnā Fīhim Mundhirīna And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); (As-Saffat 37:72)
nžur Kayfa Kāna `Āqibatu Al-Mundharīna Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). (As-Saffat 37:73)
'Illā `Ibāda Al-Lahi Al-Mukhlaşīna Except the chosen slaves of Allāh (faithful, obedient, and true believers of Islāmic Monotheism). (As-Saffat 37:74)
Wa Laqad Nādānā Nūĥun Falani`ma Al-Mujībūna And indeed Nûh (Noah) invoked Us, and We are the Best of those who answer (the request). (As-Saffat 37:75)
Wa Najjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi And We rescued him and his family from the great distress (i.e. drowning), (As-Saffat 37:76)
Wa Ja`alnā Dhurrīyatahu Humu Al-Bāqīna And, his progeny, them We made the survivors (i.e. Shem, Ham and Japheth). (As-Saffat 37:77)
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna And left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations to come in later times: (As-Saffat 37:78)
Salāmun `Alá Nūĥin Al-`Ālamīna Salāmun (peace) be upon Nûh (Noah) (from Us) among the 'Alamīn (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!" (As-Saffat 37:79)
'Innā Kadhālika Naj Al-Muĥsinīna Verily, thus We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (As-Saffat 37:80)
'Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna Verily, he [Nûh (Noah)] was one of Our believing slaves. (As-Saffat 37:81)
Thumma 'Aghraq Al-'Ākharīna Then We drowned the other (disbelievers and polytheists, etc.). (As-Saffat 37:82)
Wa 'Inna Min Shī`atihi La'ibrāhīma And, verily, among those who followed his [Nûh's (Noah)] way (Islāmic Monotheism) was Ibrāhim (Abraham). (As-Saffat 37:83)
'Idh Jā'a Rabbahu Biqalbin Salīmin When he came to his Lord with a pure heart [attached to Allāh Alone and none else, worshipping none but Allāh Alone true Islāmic Monotheism, pure from the filth of polytheism]. (As-Saffat 37:84)
'Idh Qāla Li'abīhi Wa Qawmihi Mādhā Ta`budūna When he said to his father and to his people: "What is it that which you worship? (As-Saffat 37:85)
'A'ifkāan 'Ālihatan Dūna Al-Lahi Turīdūna "Is it a falsehood āliha (gods) other than Allāh that you seek? (As-Saffat 37:86)
Famā Žannukum Birabbi Al-`Ālamīna "Then what do you think about the Lord of the 'Alamīn (mankind, jinns, and all that exists)?" (As-Saffat 37:87)
Fanažara Nažratan An-Nujūmi Then he cast a glance at the stars (to deceive them), (As-Saffat 37:88)
Faqāla 'Innī Saqīmun And he said: "Verily, I am sick (with plague. He did this trick to remain in their temple of idols to destroy them and not to accompany them to the pagan's feast)." (As-Saffat 37:89)
Fatawallaw `Anhu Mudbirīna So they turned away from him, and departed (for fear of the disease). (As-Saffat 37:90)
Farāgha 'Ilá 'Ālihatihim Faqāla 'Alā Ta'kulūna Then he turned to their āliha (gods) and said: "Will you not eat (of the offering before you)? (As-Saffat 37:91)
Mā Lakum Lā Tanţiqūna "What is the matter with you that you speak not?" (As-Saffat 37:92)
Farāgha `Alayhim Đarbāan Bil-Yamīni Then he turned upon them, striking (them) with (his) right hand. (As-Saffat 37:93)
Fa'aqbalū 'Ilayhi Yaziffūna Then they (the worshippers of idols) came, towards him, hastening. (As-Saffat 37:94)
Qāla 'Ata`budūna Mā Tanĥitūna He said: "Worship you that which you (yourselves) carve? (As-Saffat 37:95)
Wa Allāhu Khalaqakum Wa Mā Ta`malūna "While Allāh has created you and what you make!" (As-Saffat 37:96)
Qālū Abnū Lahu Bunyānāan Fa'alqūhu Fī Al-Jaĥīmi They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!" (As-Saffat 37:97)
Fa'arādū Bihi Kaydāan Faja`alnāhumu Al-'Asfalīna So they plotted a plot against him, but We made them the lowest. (As-Saffat 37:98)
Wa Qāla 'Innī Dhāhibun 'Ilá Rabbī Sayahdīni And he said (after his rescue from the fire): "Verily, I am going to my Lord. He will guide me!" (As-Saffat 37:99)
Rabbi Hab Lī Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna "My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous." (As-Saffat 37:100)
Fabashsharnāhu Bighulāmin Ĥalīmin So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy. (As-Saffat 37:101)
Falammā Balagha Ma`ahu As-Sa`ya Qāla Yā Bunayya 'Innī 'Ará Fī Al-Manāmi 'Annī 'Adhbaĥuka Fānžur Mādhā Tará Qāla Yā 'Abati Af`al Mā Tu'umaru Satajidunī 'In Shā'a Al-Lahu Mina Aş-Şābirīna And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offer you in sacrifice to Allāh), so look what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are commanded, Inshā' Allāh (if Allāh will), you shall find me of As-Sābirin (the patient ones, etc.)." (As-Saffat 37:102)
Falammā 'Aslamā Wa Tallahu Liljabīni Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allāh), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering); (As-Saffat 37:103)
Wa Nādaynāhu 'An Yā 'Ibrāhīmu And We called out to him: "O Abraham! (As-Saffat 37:104)
Qad Şaddaqta Ar-Ru'uyā 'Innā Kadhālika Naj Al-Muĥsinīna You have fulfilled the dream (vision)!" Verily! Thus do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (As-Saffat 37:105)
'Inna Hādhā Lahuwa Al-Balā'u Al-Mubīnu Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial (As-Saffat 37:106)
Wa Fadaynāhu Bidhibĥin `Ažīmin And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. - a ram); (As-Saffat 37:107)
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times. (As-Saffat 37:108)
Salāmun `Alá 'Ibrāhīma Salāmun (peace) be upon Ibrāhim (Abraham)!" (As-Saffat 37:109)
Kadhālika Naj Al-Muĥsinīna Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (As-Saffat 37:110)
'Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves. (As-Saffat 37:111)
Wa Bashsharnāhu Bi'isĥāqa Nabīyāan Mina Aş-Şāliĥīna And We gave him the glad tidings of Ishāque (Isaac) a Prophet from the righteous. (As-Saffat 37:112)
Wa Bāraknā `Alayhi Wa `Alá 'Isĥāqa Wa Min Dhurrīyatihimā Muĥsinun Wa Žālimun Linafsihi Mubīnun We blessed him and Ishāque (Isaac), and of their progeny are (some) that do right, and some that plainly wrong themselves. (As-Saffat 37:113)
Wa Laqad Manannā `Alá Mūsá Wa Hārūna And, indeed We gave Our Grace to Mûsa (Moses) and Hārûn (Aaron). (As-Saffat 37:114)
Wa Najjaynāhumā Wa Qawmahumā Mina Al-Karbi Al-`Ažīmi And We saved them and their people from the great distress; (As-Saffat 37:115)
Wa Naşarnāhum Fakānū Humu Al-Ghālibīna And helped them, so that they became the victors; (As-Saffat 37:116)
Wa 'Ātaynāhumā Al-Kitāba Al-Mustabīna And We gave them the clear Scripture; (As-Saffat 37:117)
Wa Hadaynāhumā Aş-Şirāţa Al-Mustaqīma And guided them to the Right Path; (As-Saffat 37:118)
Wa Taraknā `Alayhimā Fī Al-'Ākhirīna And We left for them (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times; (As-Saffat 37:119)
Salāmun `Alá Mūsá Wa Hārūna Salāmun (peace) be upon Mûsa (Moses) and Hārûn (Aaron)!" (As-Saffat 37:120)
'Innā Kadhālika Naj Al-Muĥsinīna Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (As-Saffat 37:121)
'Innahumā Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna Verily! They were two of Our believing slaves. (As-Saffat 37:122)
Wa 'Inna 'Ilyāsa Lamina Al-Mursalīna And verily, Iliyās (Elias) was one of the Messengers. (As-Saffat 37:123)
'Idh Qāla Liqawmihi 'Alā Tattaqūna When he said to his people: "Will you not fear Allāh? (As-Saffat 37:124)
'Atad`ūna Ba`lāan Wa Tadharūna 'Aĥsana Al-Khāliqīna "Will you call upon Ba'l (a well- known idol of his nation whom they used to worship) and forsake the Best of creators, (As-Saffat 37:125)
Al-Laha Rabbakum Wa Rabba 'Ābā'ikumu Al-'Awwalīna "Allāh, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers?" (As-Saffat 37:126)
Fakadhdhabūhu Fa'innahum Lamuĥđarūna But they denied him [Iliyās (Elias)], so they will certainly be brought forth (to the punishment), (As-Saffat 37:127)
'Illā `Ibāda Al-Lahi Al-Mukhlaşīna Except the chosen slaves of Allāh. (As-Saffat 37:128)
Wa Taraknā `Alayhi Fī Al-'Ākhirīna And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times; (As-Saffat 37:129)
Salāmun `Alá 'Il Yā -Sīn Salāmun (peace) be upon Ilyāsīn (Elias)!" (As-Saffat 37:130)
'Innā Kadhālika Naj Al-Muĥsinīna Verily, thus do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers, who perform good deeds totally for Allāh's sake only - see V.2:112). (As-Saffat 37:131)
'Innahu Min `Ibādinā Al-Mu'uminīna Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves. (As-Saffat 37:132)
Wa 'Inna Lūţāan Lamina Al-Mursalīna And verily, Lout (Lot) was one of the Messengers. (As-Saffat 37:133)
'Idh Najjaynāhu Wa 'Ahlahu 'Ajma`īna When We saved him and his family, all, (As-Saffat 37:134)
'Illā `Ajūzāan Al-Ghābirīna Except an old woman (his wife) who was among those who remained behind. (As-Saffat 37:135)
Thumma Dammarnā Al-'Ākharīna Then We destroyed the rest [i.e. the towns of Sodom at the place of the Dead Sea (now) in Palestine]. [See the "Book of History" by Ibn Kathīr]. (As-Saffat 37:136)
Wa 'Innakum Latamurrūna `Alayhim Muşbiĥīna Verily, you pass by them in the morning. (As-Saffat 37:137)
Wa Bil-Layli 'Afalā Ta`qilūna And at night; will you not then reflect? (As-Saffat 37:138)
Wa 'Inna Yūnis Lamina Al-Mursalīna And, verily, Yûnus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers. (As-Saffat 37:139)
'Idh 'Abaqa 'Ilá Al-Fulki Al-Mashĥūni When he ran to the laden ship, (As-Saffat 37:140)
Fasāhama Fakāna Mina Al-Mudĥađīna He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, (As-Saffat 37:141)
Fāltaqamahu Al-Ĥūtu Wa Huwa Mulīmun Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. (As-Saffat 37:142)
Falawlā 'Annahu Kāna Mina Al-Musabbiĥīna Had he not been of them who glorify Allāh, (As-Saffat 37:143)
Lalabitha Fī Baţnihi 'Ilá Yawmi Yub`athūna He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. (As-Saffat 37:144)
Fanabadhnāhu Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Saqīmun But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, (As-Saffat 37:145)
Wa 'Anbatnā `Alayhi Shajaratan Min Yaqţīnin And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. (As-Saffat 37:146)
Wa 'Arsalnāhu 'Ilá Miā'ati 'Alfin 'Aw Yazīdūna And We sent him to a hundred thousand (people) or even more. (As-Saffat 37:147)
Fa'āmanū Famatta`nāhum 'Ilá Ĥīnin And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. (As-Saffat 37:148)
Fāstaftihim 'Alirabbika Al-Banātu Wa Lahumu Al-Banūna Now ask them (O Muhammad SAW): "Are there (only) daughters for your Lord and sons for them?" (As-Saffat 37:149)
'Am Khalaq Al-Malā'ikata 'Ināthāan Wa Hum Shāhidūna Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? (As-Saffat 37:150)
'Alā 'Innahum Min 'Ifkihim Layaqūlūna Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: (As-Saffat 37:151)
Walada Al-Lahu Wa 'Innahum Lakādhibūna "Allāh has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allāh)?" And, verily, they are liars! (As-Saffat 37:152)
'Āşţafá Al-Banāti `Alá Al-Banīna Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? (As-Saffat 37:153)
Mā Lakum Kayfa Taĥkumūna What is the matter with you? How do you decide? (As-Saffat 37:154)
'Afalā Tadhakkarūn Will you not then remember? (As-Saffat 37:155)
'Am Lakum Sulţānun Mubīnun Or is there for you a plain authority? (As-Saffat 37:156)
Fa'tū Bikitābikum 'In Kuntum Şādiqīna Then bring your Book if you are truthful! (As-Saffat 37:157)
Wa Ja`alū Baynahu Wa Bayna Al-Jinnati Nasabāan Wa Laqad `Alimati Al-Jinnatu 'Innahum Lamuĥđarūna And they have invented a kinship between Him and the jinns, but the jinns know well that they have indeed to appear (before Him) (i.e. they will be brought for accounts). (As-Saffat 37:158)
Subĥāna Al-Lahi `Ammā Yaşifūna Glorified is Allāh! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! (As-Saffat 37:159)
'Illā `Ibāda Al-Lahi Al-Mukhlaşīna Except the slaves of Allāh, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islāmic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allāh). (As-Saffat 37:160)
Fa'innakum Wa Mā Ta`budūna So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). (As-Saffat 37:161)
Mā 'Antum `Alayhi Bifātinīna Cannot lead astray [turn away from Him (Allāh) anyone of the believers], (As-Saffat 37:162)
'Illā Man Huwa Şālī Al-Jaĥīmi Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! (As-Saffat 37:163)
Wa Mā Minnā 'Illā Lahu Maqāmun Ma`lūmun There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); (As-Saffat 37:164)
Wa 'Innā Lanaĥnu Aş-Şāffūna Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); (As-Saffat 37:165)
Wa 'Innā Lanaĥnu Al-Musabbiĥūna Verily, we (angels), we are they who glorify (Allāh's Praises i.e. perform prayers). (As-Saffat 37:166)
Wa 'In Kānū Layaqūlūna And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; (As-Saffat 37:167)
Law 'Anna `Indanā Dhikrāan Mina Al-'Awwalīna "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allāh). (As-Saffat 37:168)
Lakunnā `Ibāda Al-Lahi Al-Mukhlaşīna "We would have indeed been the chosen slaves of Allāh (true believers of Islāmic Monotheism)!" (As-Saffat 37:169)
Fakafarū Bihi Fasawfa Ya`lamūna But (now that the Qur'ān has come) they disbelieve therein (i.e. in the Qur'ān and in Prophet Muhammad SAW , and all that which he brought, the Divine Revelation), so they will come to know! (As-Saffat 37:170)
Wa Laqad Sabaqat Kalimatunā Li`ibādinā Al-Mursalīn And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, (As-Saffat 37:171)
'Innahum Lahumu Al-Manşūrūna That they verily would be made triumphant. (As-Saffat 37:172)
Wa 'Inna Jundanā Lahumu Al-Ghālibūna And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. (As-Saffat 37:173)
Fatawalla `Anhum Ĥattá Ĥīnin So turn away (O Muhammad SAW) from them for a while, (As-Saffat 37:174)
Wa 'Abşirhum Fasawfa Yubşirūna And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! (As-Saffat 37:175)
'Afabi`adhābinā Yasta`jilūna Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? (As-Saffat 37:176)
Fa'idhā Nazala Bisāĥatihim Fasā'a Şabāĥu Al-Mundharīna Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! (As-Saffat 37:177)
Wa Tawalla `Anhum Ĥattá Ĥīnin So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, (As-Saffat 37:178)
Wa 'Abşir Fasawfa Yubşirūna And watch and they shall see (the torment)! (As-Saffat 37:179)
Subĥāna Rabbika Rabbi Al-`Izzati `Ammā Yaşifūna Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! (As-Saffat 37:180)
Wa Salāmun `Alá Al-Mursalīna And peace be on the Messengers! (As-Saffat 37:181)
Wa Al-Ĥamdu Lillahi Rabbi Al-`Ālamīna And all the praise and thanks be to Allāh, Lord of the 'Alamīn (mankind, jinns and all that exists). (As-Saffat 37:182)
