used to receive pleasant news, he

would say:
‘All Praise is for Allah by
whose favour good works are accomplished.’
…and upon receiving displeasing news,
he r
would say:
‘All Praise is for Allah in all
circumstances.’

When he (S) used to receive pleasant
news, he (S) would say:
(209) Al-Ĥamdu Lillāhi
Al-Ladhī Bini`matihi
Tatimmu
Aş-Şāliĥātu.
…and upon receiving displeasing news,
he (S) would say:
Al-Ĥamdu Lillāhi
`Alá Kulli Ĥālin.

sending prayers upon the Prophet

The Prophet
r
said: ‘Whoever sends a prayer upon me, Allah sends ten upon him.’
|

قال صلى الله عليه وسلم: " من صلى علي صلاة صلى الله عليه بها عشرا ".

also said: ‘Do not take my grave as a place of habitual ceremony. Send
prayers upon me, for verily your prayers reach me wherever you are.’

وقال صلى الله عليه وسلم: " لا تجعلوا قبري عيدا وصلوا علي, فإن صلاتكم
تبلغني حيث كنتم ".

also said: ‘A miser is one whom when I am mentioned to him, fails to
send prayers upon me.’

The Messenger of Allah

said: ‘You shall not enter paradise until you believe, and you shall not
believe until you love one another. Shall I not inform you of something,
if you were to act upon it, you will indeed achieve mutual love for one
another? Spread the greeting amongst yourselves.’

قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لا تَدْخُلُوا الجَنَّةَ حَتَّى
تُؤْمِنُوا، وَلا تُؤْمِنُوا حَتَّى تَحَابُّوا, أَوَ لا أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى
شَيءٍ إِذَا فَعَلْتُمُوْهُ تَحَابَبْتُمْ، أَفْشُوا السَّلامَ بَيْنَكُمْ
".

said: ‘Three characteristics, whoever combines them, has completed his
faith: to be just, to spread greetings to all people and to spend
(charitably) out of the little you have.’

ثَلاثٌ مَنْ جَمَعَهُنَّ فَقَدْ جَمَعَ الإِيْمَانَ: الإِنْصَافُ مِنْ
نَفْسِكَ، وَبَذْلُ السَّلامِ لِلْعَالَمْ، وَالإِنْفَاقُ مِنَ الإِقْتَارِ
".

reported that a man asked the Prophet
r:
‘Which Islam is the best?’. He

replied: Feed (the poor), and greet those whom you know as well as those
whom you do not.’

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا: أَنَّ رَجُلاً
سَأَلَ النَبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيُّ الإِسْلامِ خَيْرٌ
قَالَ: " تُطْعِمَ الطَّعَامَ وَتُقْرِأَ السَّلامُ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ
وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ ".

103. Supplication
said upon hearing a rooster crow or the braying of an ass

صياح الديك ونهيق الحمار |

‘If you
hear the crow of a rooster, ask Allah for his bounty for it has
seen an angel and if you hear the braying of an ass, seek refuge in Allah
for it has seen a devil. |

"إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ صِيَاحَ الدِّيَكَةِ، فَاسْأَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ
فَإِنَّهَا رَأَتْ مَلَكاً وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نَهِيْقَ الحِمَارِ،
فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِنَّهُ رَأَى شَيْطَاناً ". |

104. Supplication
upon hearing the barking of dogs at night

نباح الكلاب بالليل |

‘If you hear the barking of dogs or
the braying of asses at night, seek refuge in Allah for they see
what you do not.’

إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ نُبَاحَ الكِلابِ وَنَهِيْقِ الحَمِيْرِ بِاللَّيْلِ
فَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللهِ فَإِنَّهُنَّ يَرَيْنَ مَا لا تَرَوْنَ ".

‘O Allah, to any believer whom I
have insulted, let that be cause to draw him near to You on the Day of
Resurrection.’ |

F'ayyumā Mu'uminin Sababtuhu
Fāj`al Dhālika Lhu Qurbatan
'Ilayka Yawma Al-Qiyāmati.

فأَيُّمَا مُؤْمِن ٍ سَبَبْتُه
ُُ فَاجْعَلْ
ذَلِكَ لهُ قُرْبة
ً إِلَيْكَ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ.

106. The etiquette of
praising a fellow Muslim

He

said: ‘If anyone of you is impelled to praise his brother, then he
should say: ‘I deem so-and-so to be…and Allah is his reckoner…and
I don’t praise anyone, putting it (i.e. my praising) forward, in front
of Allah’s commendation, however I assume him so and so’…if he
knows that of him.’ |

قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ مَادِحاً
صَاحِبَهُ لا مَحَالَةَ فَلْيَقُلْ: أَحْسَبُ فُلاناً وَاللهُ حَسِيْبُهُ
وَلا أُزَكِّي عَلَى اللهِ أَحَداً أَحْسَبُهُ – إِنْ كَانَ يَعْلَمُ ذَاكَ
– كَذَا وَكَذَا ".
