119. Etiquette of retiring for the night

‘When night falls (i.e. Al-Maghrib) restrain your children (from going out) because at such time the devils spread about.  After a period of time has passed let them be.  Shut your doors and mention Allah’s name for verily the devil does not open a shut door tie up your water-skins and mention Allah’s name cover your vessels with anything and mention Allah’s name and put out your lamps.’

 

(235) " إِذَا كَانَ جُنْحُ اللَّيْلِ – أَوْ أَمْسَيْتُمْ – فَكُفُّوا صِبْيَانَكْمْ فَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِيْنَ تَنْتَشِرُ حِيْنَئِذٍ، فَإِذَا ذَهَبَ سَاعَةٌ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَخَلُّوْهُمْ، وَأَغْلِقُوا الأَبْوَابَ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللهِ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لا يَفْتَحُ بَاباً مُغْلَقاً، وَأَوْكُوا قِرَبَكَمْ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللهِ، وَخَمِّرُوا آنِيَتَكُمْ وَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللهِ، وَلَوْ أَنْ تَعْرِضُوا عَلَيْهَا شَيْئاً، وَأَطْفِئُوا مَصَابِيْحَكُمْ ".

 ‘Here I am O Allah (in response to Your call) here I am. Here I am You have no partner here I am.  Verily all praise grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.’

(234) Labbayka Al-Lahumma Labbayka Labbayka Lā Sharīka Laka Labbayka 'Inna Al-Ĥĥmda Wa An-Ni`mata Laka Wa Al-Mulku Lā Sharīka Laka.

 		 (234) لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الحّمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ، لَكَ وَالمُلْكُ، لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ.
 
     

121. What to say when startled

 ‘None has the right to be worshipped except Allah.’

(235) Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Al-Lhu.

 		 (235) لا إِلَهََ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ.
 
     

122. What is said to a Kafir when he sneezes

  

  .122ما يقالُ للكافر إذا عطس فحمد الله

 ‘May Allah guide you and rectify your condition.’

(236) Yahdīkum Allāhu Wa Yuşliĥu Banlakum.

 		 (236) يَهْدِيكُمْ اللَّهُ وَيُصلِحُ بالًَكُمْ.
     

123. Returning a greeting to a Kafir

‘When the people of the Book greet you reply by saying:

 ‘And upon you.’

وَعَلَيْكُمْ.

     

124. When insulted while fasting

125. When slaughtering or offering a sacrifice

 ‘In the name of Allah and Allah is the greatest.  O Allah (it is) from You and belongs to You O Allah accept this from me.’

(239) Bismi Allāhi Wa Al-Lhu 'Akbaru Al-Lahumma Minka Wa Laka Al-Lahumma Taqabbal Minnī.

 		 (239) بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهمَّ مِنْكَ وَلَكَ اللَّهمَّ تَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي
     

126. What is said to ward off the deception of the Obstinate Shaytans

  

  .126ما يقول لرد كيد مردة الشياطين

 ‘I take refuge within Allah’s perfect words which no righteous or unrighteous person can transgress from all the evil that He has created made and originated.  (I take refuge) from the evil that descends from the sky and the evil that rises up to it.  (I take refuge) from the evil that is spread on Earth and the evil that springs from her and I take refuge from the evil of the tribulations of night and day and the evil of one who visits at night except the one who brings good O Merciful One.’

(240) 'A`ūdhu Bkalimāti Allāhi At-Tāmmāti Allatī Lā Yujāwizuhunna Barrun Wa Lā Fājirun Min Shsharri Mā Khalaqa Wa Bara'a Wa Dhara'a Wa Min Sharri Mā Yanzilu Mina As-Samā'i Wa Min Sharri Mā Ya`ruju Fīhā Wa Min Sharri Mā Dhara'a Fī Al-'Arđi Wa Min Sharri Mā Yakhruju Minhā Wa Min Sharri Fitani Al-Layli Wa An-Nahāri Wa Min Sharri Kulli Ţāriqin 'Illā Ţāriqāan Yaţruqu Bikhayrin Yā Raĥmanu.

 		 (240) أَعُوْذُ بكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ الَّتِي لَا يُجَاوِزُهُنَّ بَرّ ٌ وَلَا فَاجِر ٌ مِنْ شَّرِّ مَا خَلَقَ، وَبَرَأَ وَذَرَأَ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَنْزِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَعْرُجُ فِيْهَا، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا ذَرَأَ فِي الأَرْضِ وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا، وَمِنْ شَرِّ فِتَنِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ طَارِق ٍ إِلاَّ طَارِقا ً يَطْرُقُ بِخَيْر ٍ يَا رَحْمَنُ.
